Read this if you want to know what really happened in Beijing on June 4th, 1989, and the events leading up to that day. This book is extremely detailed and thorough on both counts.

This book was an excellent, detailed account of the events leading up to June 4th 1989. Che Muqi writes clearly and engagingly, providing his own first hand experience of the events, alongside excerpts from interviews from fellow citizens of Beijing and Shanghai. After completing this book I feel much clearer in my understanding of the events of a period in time which is constantly misrepresented by Western media and as such is fundamentally misunderstood by most Westerners. June 4th 1989 is dragged out of the archives every year as fuel for the anti-China anti-communist agenda, and so it is vitally important to, as comrade Mao Zedong said:

'Discover the truth through practice, and again through practice verify and develop the truth. Start from perceptual knowledge and actively develop it into rational knowledge; then start from rational knowledge and actively guide revolutionary practice to change both the subjective and the objective world. Practice, knowledge, again practice, and again knowledge. This form repeats itself in endless cycles, and with each cycle the content of practice and knowledge rises to a higher level.’
