The Arabic-English Bilingual Visual Dictionary introduces a range of useful current vocabulary in thematic order, using full-color photographs and artworks to display and label all the elements of everyday life — from the home and office to sport, music, nature, and the countries of the world — with panel features on key nouns, verbs, and useful phrases.
The Arabic-English Bilingual Visual Dictionary features:
A quick and intuitive way to learn and remember thousands of words. A complete range of illustrated objects and scenes from everyday life. Fast and effective learning for any situation, from home and office to shopping and dining out. Detailed index for instant reference. Handy size ideal for travel. The illustrations in the Arabic-English Bilingual Visual Dictionary provide a quick and intuitive route to learning the language, defining the words visually so it is easier to remember them and creating a colorful and stimulating learning resource for the foreign-language and EFL/ESL student.
My mom bought this book for me after I completed my Arab 001 class freshman year and I've enjoyed using it throughout my studies (about 4 years now). This book was a huge help in building vocabulary (namely adjectives and nouns). Since there's such a monopoly with the Al-Kitaab and Alif Ba textbooks in America, dictionaries like this are really nice for the student that want to build on their vocabulary outside of these textbooks. The pictures were clear and straight forward with the book being divided into themes. Personally, I enjoyed the sections on animal name, body parts, and food the most because it helped me when making small-talk with my أستاذ .
Absolutely indispensable for those looking for daily usage items like tools, house utensils, and specific topics like a dentist or doctor appointment; words that aren't generally found in a dictionary. It is even a little superior to the Oxford Picture Dictionary due to it's size and more varied content.
Although some of the vocabulary seems to be too formal to be recognized or accepted by the colloquial-speaking community, the book is extremely informative and more helpful than any other dictionary I've come across, especially for the visual learner.
This book is absolutely brilliant. It is almost impossible to make an English-Arabic dictionary due to the root system of Arabic words but this book works splendidly for nouns (and a few basic adjectives etc.). I wish that I would have had this in my library back when I was studying Arabic full-time. For the language geek it is fun just to page through this and read it like a collection of favorite stories or something along those lines.
I borrowed this from the library and was very sad to return it. It is a picture dictionary, which makes it very helpful for memorizing. You can also download an app (free) to go along with it.
