Since high school I dreamed of getting a hound dog and had my top 5 breeds picked out for a much later time. My daughter gave me this to look at and learn more about the hound dog of my dreams. A dream that will never happen but I couldn't just tell my daughter no, especially when she pointing out her favorites. Its a good reference book if you are looking for a specific breed to learn about.

Its a great book for future pet owners with tips on training and purchasing, who to trust. In addition this book talks about eveloutions, origins as well as much excirse, grooming a certain dog requires. It also includes difficulty to train, sociblity and average (adult) weight and height. A short description of the dog as well as a diagram of each are included. It would be great if they included how to dog would do with specific allergies or what type of reaction they would cause.

very inaccurate information throughout the book - poor representation of breed standards, as well as the inclusion of non-recognized breeds. (king shepherds as well as others) would not recommend this book, go for books published by the AKC or other canine registries.

This book offers a very broad overview of the different registered dog breeds. Not much information is given about any particular breed, but the pictures are gorgeous and the additional information is very helpful.

There are charts that help prospective owners pick an appropriate breed, based on exercise needs, grooming needs, and ease of training. In addition, I love that cross breeds are also depicted, including "Random-Bred Dogs" (AKA mutts).

A separate section in the back provides chapters on the care and training of dogs. With lots of colorful photographs and step-by-step instructions, these chapters will aid new dog owners as they adopt a furry friend. I also like that there's a substantial chapter on health concerns, too.

Overall, it's a useful reference guide. I did not read the book cover to cover, but browsed the sections I found to be most helpful.
