The longest book I've read to Squirt so far. I wasn't sure how he'd like the fact that there weren't pictures on every page, but it wasn't an issue. The illustrations were great, the story was just okay. If this is any indication of how the rest of the Warton books are, we'll be reading something else.

My kids absolutely loved A Toad for Tuesday so they were excited to learn there were more books about Warton and Morton. This is the only other book in the series our library has, however. We decided to read it as our first kickoff to the Holiday season this year, and once again we were delighted!

Not well written. A toad and a mole get lost in a blizzard and find shelter in what turns out to be a bear’s hibernating cave. Silly dialogue and action.

While Morton fixes all of the food for Christmas Eve dinner, Warton makes a pair of ice skates.
On his way to the pond, he meets Monroe Mole. Warton helps the mole with his overturned wagon and spilled Christmas presents and decorations. Warton goes on his way and thoroughly enjoys skating. On the way back home, he meets Monroe a second time. His wagon has rolled over again. After Warton helps the mole, he starts for home and realizes that he is lost. Monroe invites Warton to his sister's house which he assures the toad is very close by. The two set off, and it soon becomes apparent that the mole is lost too. In the snow, they find their way to a bear's den. To cheer themselves, they decorate Monroe's tree with cookies and candles. Their revelry wakes the bear, who promptly kick them back out into the storm. When Monroe disappears in the storm, Warton enlists the bear's help. The bear's grouchiness soon turns to Christmas cheer as he joins in a forest picnic complete with Morton's delicious food and Grandpa Arbuckle's rendition of the Christmas story.

A book from when I was young. I am not sure if I even read it before! It was a good little story of kindness and helping each other. I probably would have appreciated it more as a youngster. Had great illustrations.

Not as good as Erickson's "A Toad for Tuesday" but still dearly enjoyed as a bedtime story by my 5 and 7 year old sons.
