Now that that's somewhat out of my system, I'll tell you WHY you must read Two Seconds Late by Eric Wilson. This is the second installment in the By the Numbers series, the first being One Step Away. In this story, we direct our attention to Natalie Flynn, the kidnapped barista from One Step Away who ended up tutoring the Vreelands' children. Natalie is drawn to an attractive young politician named Reuben King who has been trying to push legislation that will permit the voluntary implantation of RFID chips into citizens in order to track them if they should go missing, among other reasons. Natalie gives the bill her full support since such technology would have enabled her to have an early rescue from her captor.
But, as in all of Wilson's novels, more is going on than meets the eye. There are some who wish to use the RFID technology to selectively kill other people without causing collateral damage. AND there are some people who will kill to get this legislation passed.
This book was so gripping that I read all of it in a 24-hour period. I was going to put it down to go online, but I was like, "NO! I must find out what happens!"
I really connected with Natalie's character since she and I are about the same age. We have different personalities, but we are both at turning points in our lives. I also connected with her romance with Reuben, because I met my husband when he was running for Congress (Shh...don't tell!) back in '08. He lost the election but won me, and the rest is history. hehehe
So if you like books chock full of conspiracies and plot twists, you will like Two Seconds Late. I promise.
Eric Wilson in his new book “Two Seconds Late” Book Two in the By The Numbers series published by Kingstone Publishing takes us back into the life of Natalie Flynn.
From the back cover: Microchips in humans…Lifesaving option? Or dangerous ploy?
Natalie Flynn has faced fears of her own. Now, as she dates Rueben King, a powerful young politician, she is in position to influence his vote on a groundbreaking new bill that paves the way for the microchipping of humans. What she doesn’t know is that others are also pulling strings–and shaping a deadly conspiracy. In a modern spin on the Biblical story of Esther, Natalie’s been raised up for “such a time as this.”
But in the race against time, is she already too late?
For me one of the most frightening aspects of the future portrayed in the book of Revelation is the mark of the beast. A mark, placed on the back of the hand or forehead, that lets you do business. Without this mark no one will be able to go to a store and buy or have savings or work. In Eric Wilson’s” Two Seconds Late” there is a company that makes microchips that is lobbying to pass legislation that will make them legal and have them implanted in humans. They are already, illegally, implanting their chips in select humans so they can show what the chips are capable of to potential buyers. This company will stop at nothing to have this legislation passed including murder and blackmail. “Two Seconds Late” is a page-flipping thriller where not only is Natalie’s life in danger but the lives of others as well. Mr. Wilson’s great skill is not only in creating suspenseful plots but in his marvelous characterizations. From Natalie and Darcy Page, the corporate head, all the way down to minor characters they all come to life and we sit on the edge of our seats and we root for them to succeed in the face of what seems like overwhelming odds. “Two Seconds Late” is a great read with Mr. Wilson making us flip the pages as fast as we can because we want to know what happens with Natalie and see if she survive and puts the bad guys out of business. I do not recommend starting this book late at night because it will cost you sleep as you will not want to put it down. Mr. Wilson is an excellent writer and knows how to twist your nerve endings as he tightens the suspense. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

In Eric Wilson's previous book One Step Away he introduced us to Natalie Flynn. She went through the horror of being kidnapped and tourtured. You would think that is enough, but the battle continues in this book. She finds very quickly that the terror she encountered before have not come to an end. She unknowingly becomes a pawn for a company who is determined to pass a law allowing human beings to be implanted with microchips, which woild allow for every move to be tracked. To Natalie this seems a good thing, after all she has been through she thinks this technology could save countless lives. Serpionov a Russian man who used to work for the OMON, a sort of police in Russia originally designed to prevent massacres, also thinks this technology will save lives. He is haunted by guilt of the children he has seen massacred in his home country. He is willing to do anything to get this technology of microchips available and leagal, no matter who he has to kill. Natalie becomes his main and prime sacrificial lamb. Reuben King is the representative that is the focal point of this law, the decision he makes would change the world, yet he will not be swayed or bought by money and favours. Then he meets Natalie. The microchip takes on a whole new meaning for him then, and he also wants to save lives. All the way to the very last word this story held me captive with what ifs, and with needing to know what will happen. Also indeed I have to say that this is the best modern day Esther story I have read. As you read you see where it is leading yet you have to keep reading to see how it will unfold. Some characters will surprise you, and Natalie's own struggles become real and intense. And so, the only thing that remains to be said is: WOW!
Eric Wilson takes readers into a suspense filled political thriller of modern technology, microchip tagging and romance in “2 Seconds Late,” book two of his “By the Number” series. Where “RFID” chips, implanted with radio frequency ID transmission capability, monitor the activities and whereabouts of implanted products. However, this time politicians are prepared to introduce controversial bill, “HB 6336” that authorizes human micro-chipping.
The story begins with university student, Natalie Flynn, a barista from “Sip Café,” who finds herself bound and gagged inside a “sweltering” metal Quonset hut, her last memory that of a friendly customer named Magnus. She remembered flirtatiously promising him a free cup of coffee, walking behind the counter—smelling the fresh aroma of coffee beans—then nothing—until now...
Thus begins a captivating tale of adventure and intrigue inspired by the biblical story of Esther, Queen of Persia who was born for “such a time as this” with Natalie portrayed as the “Esther” of our time. The narrative plays out in Seattle and other locales with a focus on modern technology, its potential for abuse, as well as ethical use... Full Review: http://tinyurl.com/8p93c4c
“By the Number” series by Eric Wilson. This is book two of the series and I was anxious to see if the second book would live up to the bar set by book one. Not only does it reach the bar, it jumps right over it! I'm a fan of not just this writer but this series and can't wait for the next book in the series! I love stories that reach beyond a good read and dig into my heart, making me feel so much a part of the story that I can't stop turning pages to see where it will all end! It is very hard to put this series down and pace yourself so plan on a long night of reading when you open this book! If you haven't experienced this creative, passionate, inspiring, and exciting series-- what are you waiting for? It's an excellent read that begins with "1 Step Away". Dive into this series, you won't regret it!
Microchipping humans. A great and innovative way to make people safer and more secure, or an ill-fated scheme that could bring about turmoil reminiscent of Revelations?
This is a story with a truly compelling and intriguing plot that thickens as you read on. Think you already know how you feel about the prospect of putting microchips in humans? Read this book and see if you don't start second-guessing yourself and reconsidering your stance. Eric Wilson manages to turn any preconceived notions on their head and make you really think about an issue that could very well be a reality in our country very soon. An incredibly thought provoking read that I would recommend to anyone!
Good Story. There are characters to love and there are characters to hate. Sometimes I was not sure who the real villain was. Like the first book there is a behind the scene conversation in play and it was a fun surprise to have that element revealed in the end. Although this book and its predecessor are intended to be associated with the biblical characters of Job and Esther it is important to remember the the Bible is not about Us. That said, I heartily recommend this for any reader who likes a good safe read with no land mines.
This book is the continuation of the pulse-pounding and emotionally charged story from book one, One Step Away, in the By the Numbers series. This part of the story focuses on Natalie Flynn and the important role she has to play. Natalie essentially parallels the role of Esther from the Bible – being raised up for such a time as this. She has an important role to play in the plot of human micro-chipping, but just as Esther she must choose whether or not to play this part. What she discovers about herself and others along the way will shape and mold her mind, her heart, and her future. Will she risk it all and do what she knows to be right, or will she take the easy way out and throw away a promising yet unknown future for fear and temporary good fortune?
This story is a thought provoking and deeply touching story about surrendering control of our lives to God. When we finally let go of our life, our goals, and give our hopes and dreams over to God, we will see amazing things begin to happen just as Natalie experienced. This is a story of immense encouragement to live and to love. We cannot be bound by fear, but instead we must push forward and walk in the knowledge that God will always be there to watch over us and to take care of us. He won’t leave us alone, but He also won’t force His will on us. We have to choose to love Him, trust Him, and obey Him.
What touched me the most about this story was the immense depth and breathe of each of the characters. They felt so real to me. They reached out and took ahold of my heart and brought me along with them on this insanely wonderful journey. I struggled with them, laughed with them, and my heart soared when things feel into place for them like they were meant to all along. I felt like they were such good friends by the time this story was over, and I didn’t want to let them go. I can’t wait to see what the next part of this series brings! I can’t wait to meet more awesome people and walk with them on their own journey. Eric’s mind is a treasure trove filled with the unexpected, brilliant, and perfect elements that make up a literary and sensory masterpiece.
This story will appeal to a wide range of readers as it discusses and explores the promising yet precarious topic of human micro-chipping, the deep longing in our soul for boundless love and unwavering purpose from the Creator of the Universe, and the innate desire to find our place in this world. With its unexpected and delightful twists and turns, this story will keep readers enthralled and guessing until the very last page. Eric Wilson continues to surprise and delight with the richness and depth and breadth of his astounding talent. I can’t wait to read the next installment of his By the Numbers series! I know it won’t disappoint.
Rarely does a sequel surpass its prequel; however, as good as "1 Step Away" was, "2 Seconds Late" does just that.
Mr. Wilson has ratcheted up the stakes by more than one notch and on more than one level in this second installment in the "By The Numbers" series. And, if you've had the pleasure of reading "1 Step Away," you'll agree that's saying something.
The Vreeland family from "1 Step Away" takes one step aside to cede center stage to Natalie Flynn, young governess to the Vreeland youngsters and stoic survivor of her own painful childhood. Natalie has moved on to better herself intellectually through education, spiritually through the church, and emotionally through a surprising (in more ways than one, it turns out) relationship with state representative Reuben King. But there's more at stake than Natalie's future. Much more.
Representative King chairs a committee charged to determine the future of Bill 6336, which permits the implantation of tracking microchips in people for the ostensible purpose of protecting them from harm: children from kidnapping, the helpless from exploitation, and the like. Ethical, political and sinister pressures for and against 6336 beat against him like the driven tide of a perfect storm. But what turns the tables for him is Natalie's influence, based upon her own abduction a year earlier. At least it does at first...
Sound fairly simple? What's more to tell? Oh my goodness, a whole bunch, springing from the capable keyboard of an accomplished storyteller like Eric Wilson. Mix Natalie's father's well-meaning (albeit misguided) agenda, the personal vendetta of an enigmatic Russian special ops veteran, and the greed of the ambitious owner of a multi-million dollar corporation that stands to become a multi-billion dollar corporation with the passage of 6336, stir well, don't bother to let set, and you've got a recipe for an explosive tale of political intrigue and personal danger.
Enmeshed in the storyline, Mr. Wilson presents thought-provoking moral, ethical, and spiritual conumdrums through a multi-dimensional cast of characters who defy you to love them purely or hate them wholly. Well, okay, a couple of them you might have no problem hating wholly. And there's one or two who are pretty lovable. But you know what I mean... :-)
There's a reason Mr. Wilson is a NY Times best-selling author. And he's proven it again. You really oughta get this book.
