This reassuring, easy-to-read bedtime story for toddlers sweetly introduces the eight species of bears around the world as a mother bear soothes her cub to sleep.
Richly textured and realistic illustrations wrap readers in the warmth of this loving story. Additional facts at the end of the book for young naturalists to grow with make this the perfect book for parents and little cubs to share.
PreSchool-Grade 2-A mother bear tells her cub about all the kinds of bears there are in the world as she cuddles her baby to sleep. Large, naturalistic pictures done in soft-focus pastel depict a variety of bears eating, exploring, and lying around. Most of the illustrations are given lush two-page spreads that highlight the creatures' personalities and habitats. The brief text rhymes, though it doesn't always flow smoothly. Still, parents will enjoy curling up with their own children and teddy bears, and exploring the story together, which concludes with the cub fast asleep and well loved. A page at the back of the book gives some brief information about the different species featured in the story. -Susan Oliver, Tampa-Hillsborough Public Library System, FL
I chose the book "My Favorite Bear" by Andrea Gabriel because the cover was full of detail. This book is beautiful and implies a great message of a mama bear loving her pup. The words are small and each page has many illustrations that would keep the students interested. I highly recommend having this book in any class. The teacher could do a lesson over books due to the facts provided on the last page.
Big colorful pictures and simple text introducing children to many different types of bears. Words from mother bear to her cub before saying good-night. Underlying message being that of - the world is full of all different types of people and as the child grows and goes through their life they will meet them.
A fun and simple storybook about bears and some of the things that they do. Beautiful illustrations. The children enjoyed seeing the many different types of bears throughout the tale during preschool storytime. Great for younger preschool audiences.
Not a horrible book, but kind of plain. Illustrations were plain as well. The book was supposed to be a "good night" book, but I am trying to figure out how the author tied them together.
