Important note: I still haven't read Scars or Shroud of Madness. That being said, this is the best written of the Earthdawn novels that feels like Earthdawn without being miserable like the trilogy. Pity the author died before giving us more. I feel the characters had more they have yet to tell in books unwritten. The terror and dread take some time to build but at least it builds with our characters being heroic instead of individuals we don't care about or want dead. Pacing is mostly strong with only a few wavering bits that might have been done better. Still, most enjoyable Earthdawn novel written that I've read. My biggest nit to pick, I feel the final villains may have been a little too weak for our heroes to overcome at the end. A little let down. Could have been a bit tougher. Cut one of the meandering chapters and add a bit more at the end with more challenge.

One of the better Earthdawn novels and the last from Fasa.
