Pucks, Packs & Pregnancies #1

Puck In Time: An M/M Hockey Shifter Romance

Fate doesn’t care about fame—only the mate I walked away from.

I plan my life one goal at a time—win a hockey scholarship, crush my division, go pro. And I do it. Full ride to my dream school. Team captain as a sophomore. And my roommate, Stan, owns my heart, even if he has no idea.

Then a scandal kills the entire hockey program overnight.

I’m forced to give up my dream or transfer. When a college recruiter promises me everything I’ve worked for, I take the deal and leave Stan behind.

Years later, I’m a pro athlete, a household name, and the wolf-shifter hero kids look up to. But none of it matters to my wolf. He wants Stan, the omega we walked away from.

I tell myself Stan has moved on. That I already lost my chance.

One moment of distraction while crossing the street later and I wake up in the hospital with him at my bedside.

Maybe I didn’t lose everything after all. Maybe fate just handed me the second chance I’m done pretending I don’t want.

Puck in Time is the first book in Lorelei M Hart and Colbie Dunbar’s Alpha’s Second-Chance Omega series of standalone MM Mpreg shifter romances. Some bonds never break. Some mistakes follow you until you're brave enough to fix them.

Alpha wolf shifter Axel has a plan and sticks to it. Full ride, team captain, future pro. But he doesn't plan on falling for his omega fox roommate, Stan, or walking away when the ice calls and everything unravels. When scandal hits, Axel takes the shot he's worked for and leaves more behind than he wants to admit.

Years later, Axel's name is everywhere, but none of it matters to his wolf. One accident puts him in the hospital, and Stan's the one standing over him, older, familiar, and still quietly breaking his heart. Fate gives them one more chance, and this time, Axel isn't letting go.

Healing's not instant. It takes late-night talks, hard truths, and learning how to move forward without pretending the past didn't happen. What's waiting is bigger than either of them imagined: a home, a future, and the kind of bond that never stopped pulling them back.

Axel goes from closed-off and career-focused to someone who fights just as hard for love. Stan finds his strength not just in care but in claiming space as a healer, a partner, and a father. What starts as unspoken longing becomes a steady, rooted relationship that holds under pressure and grows into something unshakable.

A steamy, shifter, fated mates, second chance, friends to lovers, mpreg, MM hockey romance filled with quiet ache, growth, and deep connection. It's about trust rebuilt through time, love that never really left, and the choice to stay when things get real. At its heart, it's about healing, identity, family, and showing up for each other again and again.

The Elevator Pitch: An alpha wolf shifter hockey player on the rise and the omega fox shifter he left behind are thrown back together by fate, reigniting a bond that never truly faded. What begins with pain and distance turns into healing, heat, and the kind of love that changes everything. Hockey, heartache, and a surprise baby all collide in a romance where timing finally gets it right.

Puck In Time is the first book in the ‘Pucks, Packs, and Pregnancies’ series. It stars Ax, an Alpha wolf hockey player, and Stan, an omega ER nurse. This is told in first person from Ax and Stan’s povs.

This is supposed to be a second chance, hockey story, but there isn’t much hockey. Most of the time it’s just talking about it and then Ax gets hurt and has to recover. It feels like this book was written to capitalize on the Heated Rivalry phenomenon that’s going on.

I couldn’t connect with the characters because the story is about seventy percent inner monologue where the characters just tell the readers what’s happening and what their feelings are. It doesn’t draw a reader in to experience the story. There’s really no conflict either. There’s a separation in college between the characters because of sports corruption and then Ax and Stan lose track of each other.

As roommates in college, they both knew that the other was their mate but figured since the other didn’t show any sign of recognizing them as their mate, they didn’t want to be disappointed in finding out if it was true. So, they decided not to shift together to find out. It was a big misunderstanding that kept them apart for years, but I thought it worked.

Both characters are the same as the characters in others books this author team has written. Nice guys with similar voices and not much depth. At least the authors were good at choosing distinct names.

Overall, I didn’t find Puck in Time very interesting. Not much happened in the plot, and the characters weren’t unique. The inner monologue came across as telling and didn’t pull me into the story. If you want something fast with no conflict, then this could be for you. I’ll give this 3 Stars because I finished it.

"Puck in Time" is book one in a new Dunbar/Hart series, Pucks, Packs and Pregnancies. It's a good starter. But honestly, if I had a blind copy with no author names, I wouldn't know it was a Dunbar/Hart tale.
Alpha wolf shifter Axel believes that his college roommate, Omega fox shifter Stan is his mate. Despite foxes only recognizing their mates when they shift together, Stan is fairly sure that Axel is his fated one. Neither wants to be wrong and they say nothing. Then the moment is lost when the school's hockey program is shutdown due to scandal and Axel transfers to another school to continue playing. Ten years later, neither has forgotten the other even though they'd long lost touch. Axel getting hit by a car brings them together. Stan brings him home to heal.
Angst, difficulty shifting, miscommunicating, I wasn't sure the "L" word would ever be exchanged. Usually Dunbar/Hart doesn't torture us so much but here we have slowish burn, and subdued sizzle. There's also a strong bit of Real Life here, with the two needing to learn how to mesh their lives together.
Not as much hockey as you'd expect from the title, but for me it was just the right amount. Pregnancy is a stable in these authors' books, but the delivery was rather mundane compared to others they have written.
I liked the book, it was quick and the MCs rather sweet. The next in the series looks interesting. I will definitely give it a go.

Axel and Stan met too early in life to be able to really commit to each other. Axel is sure that Stan is his mate, but Stan isn't. He wouldn't be able to know unless his fox and Axel's wolf shift together so that they can scent each other. While they both long for more than the platonic friendship that they have, neither is willing to take the risk while in college of possibly messing up a great relationship.

Separated by circumstances, neither Axel nor Stan really got over missing each other. While they haven't been in touch, they haven't stopped thinking about each other. When Axel ends up in Stan's emergency room after an accident, it seems fate isn't done with them.

Helping Axel to recover, Stan is finally willing to take a bit of a risk, and their platonic relationship becomes stronger than ever with a dash of a physical relationship.

Both Axel and Stan are good-hearted men, although each is also a bit insecure. They are so afraid of rejection and losing each other once again that they move very cautiously beyond friendship into something more. Their hesitance and fear are relatable qualities for many of us. The evolution of their relationship into a lasting bond makes for a lovely omegaverse read. Their devotion and willingness to adapt their lives to make a relationship work in the long term make for a sweet M/M romance read.

Four stars.

This writing team has done it again. This is a wonderful start to the Pucks, Pack & Pregnancies series. This is the story of Axel and Stan. Axel is an alpha wolf shifter who dreams of playing professional hockey. Stan is an omega fox shifter and Axel's college roommate. While Axel is pretty sure Stan is his mate, he doesn't say anything as Stan can't tell unless they shift together. That is the only way fox shifters know for sure. Both are afraid of upsetting the apple cart so neither goes beyond roommates and best friends. Then when the unthinkable happens, Axel has to change schools to keep following his dream. He leaves behind Stan but he never forgets him. Stan carries on and becomes an ER nurse while feeling the loss of Axel. The two meet again when Axel is hit by a car and taken to the hospital. Stan's hospital. This is their story. I really enjoyed this book. It is a cute and sweet read. The book is well written and easy to read. I liked how there was no instant solution. Both Stan and Axel had to work towards having a relationship if they still wanted one. I really enjoyed this book. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

Unrequited love is incredibly difficult to come to terms with. In this story it is not so much that the love is unrequited it's that Stan is aiming for the big time with his hockey. When his College team is hit by scandal and disbanded he is picked up by another. That means leaving behind Axel, his roommate and the one he knows is his mate.

Axel is equally in love with Stan. Believes Stan to be his fated mate but whilst Axel is a fox Stan is a wolf and Axel is too scared to find our his beast is wrong about them. He lets Stan go without saying anything, and it is the same for Stan. The two finish their college degrees, Stan goes on to the big time with hockey, Axel becomes an ER nurse and an accident brings them back together, Stan as Axel's patient. This time there is no holding back, no second guessing themselves, this time they are in one another's lives for good.

A fresh, exciting and really good story featuring shifters, fated mates and a story of love that lasts no matter what, because it is the truest love.

Puck in Time by Lorelei Hart and Colbie Dunbar was such a cute, fun little read. It’s the perfect mix of paranormal MM romance and hockey, with wolf and fox shifters, fated mates, and even a dash of mpreg. Honestly, what’s not to love?

Axel is a wolf shifter and a hockey player who believes he and Stan were fated mates years ago, while Stan—a fox shifter—was too afraid to hope that fate could really be on his side. That creates a sweet second-chance feel as they reconnect and finally face what they both wanted all along.

What I really loved was how gentle and emotional the story was, especially for a shorter read. Watching Axel and Stan come together, communicate, and work through the obstacles in their way was genuinely heartwarming. The bond between them felt natural and earned, not rushed.

This was a quick, feel-good romance that left me smiling. If you enjoy paranormal MM romances with shifters, hockey, fated mates, and a guaranteed happy ending, I highly recommend picking this one up.

It was so easy to get absorbed into this perfectly paced storyline. Axel and Stan were roommates first, friends came next, and both feared the other's reaction to their "more than" feeling to the point they kept them to themselves. That had some devastating consequences on their relationship when Axel was forced to transfer schools. I loved that Fate gave them a second chance to get it right though. This story contained everything a good, solid romance needs: drama, heartbreak, tragedy, tension, chemistry (in spades), caring, supportive characters, and a HEA! That last one's a must for me. The growth of the characters made a strong impression on me, as they both changed significantly from start to finish. It was an easy read, not requiring any quick reviews or back referencing. Very nicely done Colbie!😘👏.

Axel and Stan were roommates until Axel’s hockey coach was caught in a scandal so in order to keep his scholarship and playing hockey he had to change colleges. Axel’s wolf told him that Stan was his mate but Stan acted like he didn’t know that they were mates. Stan went on and got his nursing degree and was an ER nurse and liked it, he kept track of Axel’s career so he bought a VIP pass so he could meet and talk to Axel hopefully. But a nurse called off so he had to work after the game Axel was walking and thinking about Stan and got hit by a car unconscious both him and his wolf ended in Stan’s ER. Axel went home with Stan his wolf didn’t feel save to shift because it had been unconscious for awhile but took Stan’s fox to make the connection to Axel’s wolf then he started healing again. They worked through the mate thing.

This was a slight departure from the books I've read so far of this author, in a very good way. Instead of meeting as fated mates and having to explain to the human half, this was of two shifters, who met in college and would have known they were fated mates if they shifted together, as fox shifters always know. Of course the wolf shifter, Axel, knew all along, but Stan was nervous they wouldn't be mates. So after a scandal with the hockey team, Axel is transferred. Cut to eight years later when they meet again, after Axel was injured in a car accident. Stan happens to be a nurse at the hospital he is taken to. The story has a few twists and turns, but they eventually shift together and Stan figures out what Axel has always known. Of course there's more to it than that.

A lovely and unusual mpreg story.

title is genuinely so ridiculous to me. substituting puck for just is so silly and not intuitive as a pun to me at all like it took me working it out in this review to get it and i dnfed this hours ago. (granted i never thought abt it again after dnfing but still) honestly pacing is something i made it halfway before marking it as a BOREEEEEEEEE. the concept is good but we focus too little on the years long feelings theyve had for each other to rush into a completely unsatisfying relationship like i love low angst but u cant SET UP an angsty situation and just NOT DELIVER? axel's injury took up MOST of the pagetime but theyre so fucking vague on his recovery process its astonishing why he hasnt recovered. if youre going to spend all this time focusing on an injury bringing them together at least do it well! i could not believe i was not at least 75% of the way thru but when i checked i had barely hit 40% it was such a drag. so sad but this sucked so im not that sad really!

"There was a giant Stan-sized hole in my life, and every day I wondered what he was up to."

What a great start to a new hockey series, Pucks, Packs & Pregnancies, by Colbie Dunbar and the writing duo of Lorelei M Hart. When I saw this on Booksprout I instantly grabbed it and I'm so happy I did.

This series will be a group of standalone mpreg books where the alpha plays professional hockey. There is a teaser for the next book, Puck's for Dinner, that sounds equally good.

Two guys meet as roommates in college, one the studious type and the other an athlete. They end up going to different colleges and eventually drift apart. Circumstances bring them back together and their romance finally blooms.

Fated mates, alpha shifter wolf and omega fox, best friends separated in college, brings the heat, mpreg

I really enjoyed reading this story about Stan, who is a fox shifter, and Axel, who is a wolf shifter. They are both in college together and are roommates. Axel knows that Stan is his mate but Stan being a Fox shifter wouldn’t know until you actually shift. His Fox which he is very shy about doing. When something happens at the college where all sports teams are postponed because of some financial hiccup Axel is transferred to another university where he is to finish his scholarship and become a professional ice hockey player, as time progresses they both lose contact with each other, but it’s not until years later, they meet by accident. This is fate, stepping in and bringing them together so that they can go on to have their happily ever after.

I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and I am reviewing with my honest and fair opinion.

Axel and Stan were mates from the beginning, but both to scared to take a risk when they where roommates. I was a bit frustrating because of them taking no risk and with that taking a big risk of not ending up with the man of their dreams. But on the other hand I do understand why they didn't want to take a risk with the friendship they had.

But fate has plans with them after all those years, luckily. A bit of a drastic plan in Axel his case to get him back in Stan his path. But it worked out in the end.
I liked it that the story didn't stop there and there was lots more in this short book to read. I love it when a book at the end tells me as a reader what will happen after a few years time like in this book.

This is Book 1 of the Pucks, Packs & Pregnancies series. And a FANrastic start it is! Look forward to more from this world.

'Puck in Time features a hockey-playing alpha wolf who never forgot the omega he walked away from, the omega fox who is his biggest fan, the accident that brought them both together, true love, fated mates.'

The characters drove the storyline and they were so very appealing and likeable and perfectly steamy together. Plot was well written and developed. World building was excellent and impressive. Thoroughly enjoyed and highly recommend.

A lovely friends to mates romance. I will say I really didn't feel the chemistry between Axel and Stan in the beginning. Since this book was two POV(which I absolutely love) you would think we get both perspective. Well in the beginning it was just Axel's voice when they were young. I think if we had Stan's voice when they were young I would have felt differently. Oh well it didn't deter me from enjoying their romance. The reunion was kind of bittersweet but a very good opportunity they had to lay it all out there. It took a bit but truths(smells) came out and everything was great. Love their romance and absolutely their HEA. Nice...very NICE!

Puck In Time by Lorelei M Hart and Colbie Dunbar was a short read with sweetness, a little spice and omegaverse flair that made me happy. Stan and Axel were a cute couple and brought the cute factor. Mates separated by circumstances, missed opportunities, and fear. Reunited years later and things pick up fairly quickly. The flow of this story was a little choppy and rushed in some areas. The concept is good and The characters are great, I just wanted more time with them to really develop some of the ideas and time line. Great idea and we want more!!! Hockey, healers, starting a family, and adjacent careers its a good read. Looking forward to more from this writing duo.

This writing duo cannot be beat (or is it trio), no matter what they write. Loved this story of Axel and Stan, both realizing the other is their mate, but afraid to shift to find out in case they are wrong. It takes a terrible accident for Axel to bring them back together years later, and it still requires that old standby, communication, to finally let their animals out and know for sure that they are fated. Short and sweet, with knotting and babies on the way, a HEA for them and their family — Axel’s team does pretty well, too. Looking forward to more in this new hockey themed series from Dunbar and Hart.

What a fun way to kick off an all new shifter hockey series! With these two authors paired together you know you are in for a fun ride of sweet low angst mpreg reading. Axel & Stan were college roommates but were separated before they could share their true feelings. Over the years, neither got over the one that got away. Well fate said these two needed their second chance and its a wreck of a way. Together they heal past wounds and new injuries and work to a new future together. Together they learn to combine their lives and experience true joy and love together. Was fun seeing how seemlesly Stan fit onto pack lands to start his life as it was meant to, even if it took a little time to get there. I cannot wait to see what comes next from this series. With the team dynamics I hope that we get to see more of that in the future reads.

I was a little concerned at the start of this story with how hard it was leaning into miscommunication (or just flat out not communicating at all) to move the story along. Thankfully that got cleared up fairly early on and then it was mostly just a cuteness overload from both sides. This is not a high stakes story so I was able to settle in and just enjoy Axel and Stan being happy together. It's a fairly quick read and definitely worth picking up if you already like either author or you just want some low stakes cuteness as a palate cleanser between heavier reads.

If you don't usually read hockey novels, you need to read this one. The focus is on the people, not the sport. I loved it from the first pages. Axel and Stan are perfect for each other. The accident that brings them back together is one of several that shape the story. You have to wait for the sex to happen, but it is worth the wait. As careers clash, sacrifices are made. But it is worth all the delays. Yes, there are babies. Believe me, you will love this book. So grab it Now! Come on, you know you want it!.

This is book one in the author’s new Pucks, Packs and Pregnancies series and features a second chance romance between an injured pro hockey wolf shifter and his former fox shifter college roommate turned ER nurse.

Initially, except for the two MCs being separated, I was loving it and thought it was so sweet but I was kinda disappointed that their mated life took an unusual turn for fated mates.

This would be an excellent read for those who enjoy a little different take on shifter life. It’s super sweet and has plenty of steam, I just prefer the more traditional version myself. 4 stars

Fated Mates

This was a cute story but it did feel a bit rushed especially near the second half. I liked how Axel and Stan remeet and that they got the chance to spend time together but I didn’t really feel their chemistry or get to know them much. I also felt like information kept getting added halfway through the book. While the synopsis mentions mpreg and the omegaverse it doesn’t actually get brought up until later in the book when it happens. Also Axel having a pack was a surprise to me because they never talked about his family until it was relevant to the story. I liked the idea but I wish there were more opportunities to see Stan and Axel together as a couple.

This was such a lovely second‑chance shifter romance. Chase is a driven, determined alpha who’s spent years pretending he doesn’t miss the omega he left behind — and Stan is the perfect mix of soft, strong, and quietly devoted. Their reunion after the accident is emotional in the best way, and the story leans into comfort, connection, and fated‑mate sweetness. The mpreg element is adorable, the HEA is guaranteed, and the whole book feels like a warm hug with hockey sticks.

Things seemed to be going just the way Axel wanted them to be - hockey was going well and he has his roommate and his love Stan. And then the bottom falls out of the hockey program and the only way to keep at it is to leave. Axel gets recruited and leaves Stan, and a part of his heart, behind. A few years pass and an accident brings them back together. Axel wants Stan and the feeling is mutual. They get their second chance. Sweet.

Time matters, the right time always arrives! Axel and Stan are roommates. Axel, is a hockey player who loves Stan. Unexpected circumstances separate them for years. Axel is a successful pro hockey player loved by many. Sadly, his wolf still wants Stan. They reunite after Axel has an accident. Their reunion, is amazing and sets the path toward fulfilling fate's plan. Amazing story that makes you wiggle as you read it. You can feel the love. Nicely done, amazing cover art, absolutely likeable characters. Great start to a new series. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leavign a review.

I felt a little let down by this one. I normally am a huge fan of second chance stories but this one just felt like it was missing something. Stan and Alex get their second chance when Alex gets hurt but their reunion felt a little lack luster. It’s a sweet story and worth a read. It just didn’t land like this duo’s stories usually do for me.

Axel and Stan story was interesting with a bit of heartache as fear kept them to be truthful about their feelings.
When they reconnect they both have demanding careers, insecurities, and a communication they have to work at.
I liked seeing how their lives evolved, how they formed a happy growing family, and how they managed to balance professional and personal lives.
I enjoyed it and I’m looking forward to the next adventure.

It's been entirely too long since I read a Lorelei and Colbie story, so when I saw they were doing a hockey series I rannnn. And I'm so happy I did. Stan and Axel were absolutely adorable and I loved them so much. They were so sweet together and as always with Lorelei and Colbie, their main conflict was outside of their relationship making this a cozy as heck read. I'm so excited to see what's coming next!
