Napoleon is a small dog with big ideas. When he spots an island through his telescope, Napoleon decides it will make the perfect home. He is welcomed by Crab, Bunny, and Bear, who are excited to have a new neighbor. They even insist on helping Napoleon build his dream house – a home that’s tall and wide, with great ocean views. But Napoleon’s demands push the limits of friendship as well as of the resources of the island. Is there anything Napoleon can do to make it up to them?
Playful illustrations and text about a bossy dog and his patient pals, along with a subtle environmental message, are sure to delight young readers and their parents.
The artwork is super cute. I loved the style and the texture! The storyline was interesting and packed a bunch of lessons in that would be great for kids!
One thing that I didn't really care for was the use of various font sizes. For the most part, the font is the same size, but there are random words that are bolded or larger. Right on the first page, "big ideas" is larger than the rest, and each letter in "ideas" is larger than the previous. In some places, different text styles worked, but just not in some...
Overall a cute and fun read! This would definitely be a great one to read out loud to a child, especially one that loves animals!
Napoleon, a small dog with big ideas rows ashore of an island, and is greeted and welcomed by crab, rabbit, and bear. Napoleon soon abuses his new friends invitation to live on the island. Crab, rabbit and bear seek a new place to live, and when Napoleon shows up, they refuse to let him live with them. Napoleon sees the error of his ways, and restores the island to its original beauty, but something lurks out on the horizon.
This is a good book for up to 3rd grade I think. I would say for younger readers you will need to shorten some of the teaching moments. Great illustrations. A lot to look at.
No Room For Napoleon will be a read that children will love. Kids will enjoy discussing all the ways that Napoleon is being a naughty dog and a bad friend. I also like that the importance of enviroment conservation is present in a way that may not have been shown in other pictures books.
