Rosewood River #6

Whisper Sweet Nothings: A Small Town, Single Dad Romance

Rate this book
A Small Town, Single Dad, Nanny, Age Gap Standalone Romance from USA Today and Amazon #1 Bestselling Author, Laura Pavlov.

Winnie Smith is the perfect nanny. She’s reliable, warm, and my daughter adores her. She cooks like a pro, styles pigtails like a fairy godmother, and knows her way around a car engine better than most mechanics. She’s made life easier. The house feels full again. And maybe… so do I.

But living under the same roof has its challenges. Like catching her in the kitchen after midnight… barefoot, in tiny sleep shorts, eating ice cream straight from the tub.

Don’t even get me started on the way that her lips wrapped around that spoon. I digress. It shouldn’t mean anything. She’s a decade younger. I’m her boss. She’s off-limits. And yet, it’s all I can think about. I was just looking for a nanny—not nightly cold showers and definitely not feelings. But the more we blur the lines, the harder it is to keep pretending. We say it’s temporary. No strings. Just one harmless arrangement. But what if she’s not just what my daughter needs…What if she’s exactly what I’ve been missing too?

Well, Laura Pavlov… you’ve done and saved the best for last with Whisper Sweet Nothings. This book completely enamoured me. For some reason, any time that Pavlov writes the single dad trope, I’m a goner.

Archer is in desperate need of a nanny for his daughter, Melody. When he meets Winnie, he’s not sure she’s a good fit for the job, but he gives her a chance. He couldn’t have been more wrong. Winnie fits seamlessly into Melody’s and his life. She’s the missing puzzle piece he didn’t know was missing.

Winnie and Archer were fantastic together. Truly, I adored their friends-to-lovers romance. But any scene with Melody completely won me over. Not only the scenes with her dad and family, those were precious, but particularly those with Melody and Winnie. They were the absolute sweetest and melted my heart.

Rosewood River is such a special series. I love this family. No one does small-town romance and family dynamics quite like Laura Pavlov. She’s a master at this. I feel like with this series specifically, each book got better and better. And the audiobook was incredible! Such fantastic narration. This book is a must read!

Whisper Sweet Nothings is a small town, age gap, single dad x nanny romance, and the 6th (and final book) in the Rosewood River series. This one was so cute and such a fun way to end this series, with also giving us a glimpse of the next book/series (I’m so ready)!

Archer is the single dad of the group, we’ve seen him throughout the series struggle with finding the right nanny or having issues with the one he hired for his daughter Melody. This book opens with him finally hiring for a new nanny and then the applicant Winnie misses the interview appointment. She shows up later and explains she was having car trouble but she’d love the chance and convinces him she’d be perfect for the job (even without the nannying experience) since she was raised by a single dad as well.

This was just so cute and sweet. Loved seeing Winnie with Melody, it’s fun that Winnie is a romance author as well (we even see her gear up for and go on a book release). Archer is a bit hung up on their age gap, he’s a decade older than her 24 but he eventually moves on from that. They had great chemistry, it was a bit slow burn which worked well for them. Love a supportive partner and how much he was there for her as an author. Fun seeing all the rest of the series characters as well and we do finally get some clarity on the Taylor Tea writer (the small town’s gossip column). This was a quick one and really cute, the audiobook was fantastic as well.

This book completely stole my heart. It was my first Laura Pavlov romance and I’m going to have to go read all her books now.

Archer is everything I want in a single-dad romance he’s protective, loving, and swoony. Every scene with his daughter was heartwarming , and the quiet emotional moments throughout the story were handled beautifully. Winnie brought so much warmth to the page, and I loved watching their connection grow.

With its small-town charm, genuine emotion, and perfectly balanced humor, this story was an absolute joy to read. It wrapped me up from the start and never let go.

A deeply satisfying romance I loved it!

Narration by Sebastian York & Savannah Peachwood. These two were everything I needed for this story!!

The 6th and final book to the Rosewood River series and my heart is both so happy & equally sad at the same time. I have waited so long for Archer Chadwick & this single dad did not let me down!!

If you’re new here, you will quickly find out I have a huge love for Laura Pavlov and her Smalltown romances. This series has been such an amazing ride! Whisper Sweet Nothings is single dad/nanny story that is going to have you laughing, swooning, and feeling all the emotions!!

Archer is a great dad to Melody and an overprotective MMC who will have your heart melting!! His love for the girls is perfect!!

Winnie was just a ray of sunshine in a bottle & the sweetest addition to the Chadwick crew. I loved her bond & connection with Melody & the way they related so much. Her career as a romance author, just felt so right for this one!!

In typical Laura fashion, she kept us laughing with the group chats & just over the top in love with the Chadwick family!

This book was the perfect ending to this series & I cannot wait to see what she does next!!! 😍

Honestly, I was emo the entire time because I knew this was the last time we'd get Melody and Beefcake as kids. This was so wholesome and sweet and the perfect ending to this generation of Rosewood River/Magnolia Falls/Cottonwood Cove. Laura, thank you for writing these worlds. On to the next generation. Thank you to valentine pr for this arc.

Sometimes a romance just feels like a warm hug, and this was exactly that.

Whisper Sweet Nothings completely swept me away with its single dad and nanny storyline. Archer is protective, devoted, and quietly swoony, but it is the love he has for his daughter Melody that truly makes your heart ache in the best way. Every moment with her felt genuine and tender, and it added so much emotional depth to the story.

Winnie brings warmth and light into their lives so effortlessly. She never tries to replace anyone, she simply shows up with patience and love, and watching her bond with Melody was incredibly sweet. The grumpy and sunshine energy between her and Archer felt natural, and their slow shift from friendship to something deeper was both heartfelt and satisfying. The small town charm, family chaos, and laugh out loud banter made it feel full and alive.

By the end, I was completely smitten. It was emotional, romantic, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of heat. I closed this book feeling completely full and ridiculously happy.

Laura Pavlov strikes again! I’m obsessed already, Beefcake’s story can’t come soon enough, and those sneak peeks were everything. 😍

Huge thank you to Laura Pavlov and Valentine PR for the ARC! 😍 All my bookish thoughts are completely my own. ✨

I’m so sad to be done with Rosewood River, but I loved every second of Archer and Winnie! I want to be just like Winnie when I grow up–the way she stood up for herself to Archer, the way she showed up for Archer and Melody, and the way she fit right in with the rest of the girls. Archer is swoony and overprotective. He’s so hesitant to cross the professional line with Winnie, but these two are so meant to be. They fit together so well, and I loved watching them fall head over heels. I loved watching them with Melody. The sibling group chats had me giggling, Archer & Winnie had me melting, and I just loved seeing the last of the Chadwicks find their happily ever after. So so so good.

The teaser at the end makes me anxious for June!

I’m sad to be saying goodbye to the Chadwick family but this was a really fun series! The last Chadwick to get struck by love is Archer who falls for his nanny 😏

Archer has a five year old daughter and his old nanny just isn’t cutting it anymore so he decides to hire Winnie, the niece of some locals in town. But Winnie is not only great with his daughter she is gorgeous and kind and he can’t stop thinking about her.

Winnie, is recently divorced and starting over. She is also a romance author looking to write her first book after the end of her long term relationship. This nanny job will allow her to write and make some much needed money as she gets back on her feet. Good think her good looking boss is such great inspiration 🥵

I loved this books so much! The love that Archer has for his daughter Melody is adorable. He wants to put her first and then he finds Winnie who loves Melody so much!
They are such a great couple together. Winnie didn’t have a mom growing up so she understands what she is going through. She never wants to push or make her feel like she is trying to be her mom. Winnie shoe love through her actions and all that she does to help!
Archer is cautious at first, but his heart knows that she is the one.
The Chadwick boys are hilarious and this book made me love Bridger more! I was so happy to see them all having kids and I can’t wait to start a new series from Laura!!

Super sweet and cute romance about a single dad with an adorable 5 year old and the nanny. Winnie is a 24 year old author recovering from a divorce and looking for a fresh start.

Archie is the single dad raising his daughter Melody and running his own real estate company.

Sparks start flying almost from the beginning between Winnie and Archie. What will happen next?

Sebastian York and Savannah Peachwood do a banger of a job on the duet narration. Sebyo's voice is swoon worthy.

The Chadwick boys are back!! And as endearing and hilarious as ever.

As soon as I got the audiobook in my hands, it was in my ears. Not only because Laura is my favorite and I know that I am always in for a fun, heartfelt, witty, swoony romance, with the most amazing characters - but I also needed to know if we ever find out who has been writing the Taylor Tea 👀.

Archer has some serious inner struggles regarding his feelings for Winnie, his daughter Melody’s nanny, especially as they become close friends. But as much as they both try to fight it, their chemistry is off the charts. He is protective in all of the best ways. There is just the right amount of tension, jealousy and possessiveness to round it all out.

The way Winnie has Melody’s back and is able to easily connect with her is the sweetest, they made an amazing little family.

Get ready for plenty of cameos from some of Laura’s best characters!

This was the most perfect ending to Rosewood River. The epilogues 🥹 it’s always bittersweet to finish a beloved series, but I am ready for the next generation!!

Savannah Peachwood and Sebastian York narrate in duet - I listened in one sitting, I couldn’t get enough of their voices together. They nailed the banter and emotions. Savannah’s soft cadence fit Winnie so well, and I loved listening to her southern twang for Melody. Sebastian was phenomenal, portraying all of the Chadwick boys and their shenanigans flawlessly!

thank you to valentine pr for the digital copy!

it’s a wrap for a fantastic series! i’ve been loving rosewood river so much, and i honestly feel like laura saved the best for last with this one. whisper sweet nothings was everything i wanted and more, and it is without a doubt my favorite in this series.

i feel like i say this about every couple from laura’s books, but archer and winnie were such a perfect match. they balanced each other out and were each other’s missing puzzle piece. their connection was instantaneous and the push and pull was frustrating in the best way. also, healthy communication and no unnecessary drama! loved that so much.

archer’s daughter was a prime example of why i love single parent romances. i adored her relationship with her dad, as well as the bond she developed with winnie. so, so cute!! and let’s not forget about the rest of the chadwick boys. they cracked me up with their banter and hilarious group texts, and cutler aka beefcake was an icon as always. i genuinely don’t think i’ve ever been more excited for a book than i am for cutler’s!!

saying goodbye is definitely bittersweet, but i’m so excited to see what’s next!

How can this be the last book in Rosewood River? I'm so sad, no more Chadwick pickleball or flipping each other off in the group chat...

This one I've been wondering about. We knew Archer and Melody but Laura kinda kept them on the down-low. I didn't know their backstory, I always wondered with each book (where's Melodys mom?). Which I thought was a great choice. It was this slight little mystery.

Archer now needs a new nanny. And he gets the sweetest one. Winnie is perfect for Melody. They become super close, its so cheeseness. She knows what Archer and Melody both need. Archer is attracted but super wary. Theres the whole boss/employee vibe and Archer keeps reminding himself... shes just soooo much younger (obviously not that bad, its in his head!)

This one was a little lower stakes. Of course Archer doesnt want to start something, then lose Winnie. because Melody looses too.

But Winnie fits right in. With his home, family, and with all the Chadwick girls. How can Archer deny all of that?!

One thing I was sad about... there was only a few scenes with Beefcake. But Archer has more responsibilities than the other guys, so I can see him spending less time with him. I am not ready for Beefcake to grow up. But then I am ready.

Archer needs a new nanny for his daughter Melody. He thinks he’s taking a risk when he hires Winnie; a woman who showed up late to the interview and no experience taking care of kids. He had no idea how life changing that leap of faith was going to be!

“Her lips parted when I pulled my thumb back. I was going to kiss her. I wanted it. She wanted it. That was all that mattered. I tipped my head down as her hand moved to the back of my head and tangled in my hair, tugging me closer. Our lips just a breath apart.”
🌶️🌶️🌶️

Well here we are, the last book in the Rosewood River series. I love the single dad/nanny trope I really really do and this one was just so sweetly done. I freaking loved Archer and Winnie together. They just had this perfect chemistry with each other, it was funny, it was flirty. Yes Archer needed to get over the age gap thing, because really it wasn’t that crazy and I just loved this sweet sweet way that they fell for each other.
Winnie was great with Archer’s daughter Melody, their bond was great to see since Winnie was also raised by a single dad. Not to mention the late night run ins in the kitchen with barely any clothes on. We get to see all of our favorite characters from the series including the ever unhinged text chain and the ChadSix Pickleball games.
I did cry at the end of the book, knowing it was the end of the series, but it was so fun to see that extended epilogue with the 20 year time jump when we get to see the next generation with Cutler “Beefcake” Heart all grown up.

“Do you want me to whisper sweet nothings in your ear, Winnie?” I teased.
“You could give all my heroes a run for their money, Archie,” she said.

I can’t believe we are leaving Rosewood River. This series has absolutely been something special and these characters are going to live in my heart forever.

I loved this book, I love this family, and I’m so sad to be saying goodbye. I think this is my favorite series of Laura’s to date, and that’s saying something because I’ve loved them all.

But Archer and Winnie were definitely a favorite. And Melody stole the show.

✨ Small Town
✨ Single Dad x Nanny
✨ Age Gap
✨ All the yearning
✨ Forced Proximity
✨ She’s an Author

I love a good single dad x nanny trope, no matter how many times I’ve read them. There is just something about a person that steps in and is exactly what both the single parent and the kid need.

Winnie is a kind soul and she and Melody bonded in such a special way that I couldn’t help but want her and Archer to fall for each other. Ans fall they did. That man put himself through it with Joe much her wanted Winnie and I was giddy when he finally just let himself fall for her.

This story was just the perfect amount of sweet and spicy, and the cameos from the whole family made me smile wit every mention.

And Winnie being sucked into the girl gang immediately, put a smile on my face. I loved the bits of her publishing journey we got to see and how important Archer supporting her and letting her fly and showing her he could be exactly what she needed was perfect for them.

Also who knew it would be Bridget that would be the voice of reason. Love that Journey for him.

Whisper Sweet Nothings by Laura Pavlov eARC Review 🎀

The queen of small town romance strikes again. I am so sad that the Rosewood River Series has come to an end but this was such a great way to end the series. Single dad x nanny gets me everytime but this one just seemed a little extra special.

Archer, Winnie and Melody make the sweetest little fam. Archer is in desperate need of a new nanny for his daughter, Melody and Winnie is searching for a fresh start after a recent divorce. She becomes the new nanny for Melody and watching her fall for both Archer and his daughter is truly the sweetest story. They are both very hesitant to cross any boundaries that they shouldn’t but their friendship easily becomes more and they have the hardest time keeping their feelings strictly platonic.

This story is so sweet. I was waiting for Archer to get his happily ever after and Winnie is truly the missing piece for their family.

Winnie is Melody’s new nanny. Archer was hesitant to hire Winnie, saying it was due to her lack of experience with children. But maybe it has something to do with his attraction towards Winnie. This is the perfect job for Winnie! This new position allows Winnie to care for Melody and write romance novels during free time. Winnie and Archer give into their feelings towards each other quickly. Will they be able to work through past relationship trauma and navigate a future together?

I was obsessed with these characters after the first two chapters. Archer is such a great dad! Winnie is so loving and the best caregiver to Melody and Archer. Watching these three become a family was incredible. The support they have for each other is amazing! Archer is like a real life book boyfriend that Winnie writes about.

“I love when you whisper sweet nothings to me, Archie."
This is the final book of the Rosewood River series. We are at the end! How did that happen so quickly?! Archer hires Winnie as a nanny for his daughter, Melody. He is a single dad and not looking for a relationship. Winnie is a romance author and is looking for a job she can do in between writing. Melody quickly falls in love with Winnie and the two become besties. Winnie is off limits but Archer develops feelings for her and lines are crossed.

I think this may be my favorite book of the series. Archer, Winnie and Melody stole my heart. I have so many quotes that I highlighted while reading. Laura Pavlov is the queen of small town romance and I'm looking forward to the next book that she's writing which is Cutlers story!

Wow

Wow

Wow

I must admit I have read her series backwards, heading back to Cottonwood Cove now that this is over but oh my gosh this was a perfect ending to the series.

Since the first book I’ve been so excited for Archer’s story, I am a sucker for a single dad romance, especially when the kid is as cute as Melody

Archer & Winnie were a match made in heaven. You’re telling me she showed up to her interview a complete mess and told him off for judging her??? Get it girl!!
Also Bridger in this book was fantastic. Stole the show at some points

It rounded out the series in the most special way.

And we finally found out who was writing Taylor’s Tea!!!! Ahhhhh 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Took the cake for all time favorite Laura Pavlov book.

And we got a teaser for Beefcake’s book?!?!

Well done Laura 👏🏻👏🏻

Wow.

What a way to end a series. It’s always so hard for me to pick a favorite of Laura’s but I think this was it. I was hooked from OG 1 & did not want to put it down.

Archie, Winnie & Melody were perfect. I absolutely adored Melody (besides beefcake she’s def my favorite kid from a book) she was just the sweetest most lovable person. Archie was… chefs kiss. Perfection. That man could no wrong in my eyes. Winnie was the real crowd pleaser though. I loved her so much and saw a lot of myself in her.

Laura always has a way of making me swoon & this was no different. If she wrote 5 more books just about this couple, I would gladly read. She’s my favorite author for a reason.

I’m so excited for everyone to read this story. I couldn’t get enough.

This is how you do the single dad and nanny trope. A good age gap, the slow build up, forbidden tension, and some jealousy thrown in. The romance was probably one of my favorites ever written by Laura.

Winnie is a romance author who ends up as Archer’s live-in nanny to help with his five year old daughter, Melody. These three were so adorable together. I loved how the family dynamic came first and the romance second. It developed slowly and organically so you can enjoy the will they won’t they tension.

Whisper Sweet Nothings is the 6th book in Laura Pavlov's Rosewood River series. I jumped right into this book without reading the first 5 books in the series because the single dad trope called out to me. It's my catnip. And combine that with a small town and Pavlov's way of connecting the big family and you have the makings for a light, sweet, cute and fun story.

Archer is raising his sweet little girl Melody all on his own with help from his family. But he knows he can't always rely on his family, so he seeks out a nanny. When Winnie is recommended to him by a family friend, he wants to give her the opportunity, but circumstances leave him feeling she isn't a good fit. Until family barges in and takes matter into their own hands and basically hires Winnie on Archer's behalf. She ends up being everything they didn't know they were looking for. But could she fit in more ways than one?

Winnie comes to town recently divorced and looking for a job that will still allow her to focus on her writing. She's a newer romance author, looking forward to growing her career after a messy divorce that has left her not so keen on relationships. Having a nanny position would give her everything she needs. But what she doesn't expect is to relate to little Melody and their backgrounds. She becomes what Melody needs in many ways while also building a friendship with Archer (aka Archie). But when their attraction grows to more than friendship, will they ruin what has already been built within their new home unit?

Whisper Sweet Nothings was such a cute and sweet story between two great characters. Although I hadn't read the previous books, I never once felt like I was missing anything, although I would love to go back and see how everyone found their own HEA. I loved the family camaraderie and the way they all came together for each other. And the family text exchanges? Hilarious and relatable. Made me want to be a part of their family. But the slow building chemistry that sparked between Archer and Winnie is what made this book special. Especially how well Winnie just fit with Melody and Archer. My favorite part about single parent books is how the non parent fits into the family and Winnie did that seamlessly in all the ways that mattered. There was honestly little to no conflict besides the fact that Archer and Winnie weren't sure they should cross lines for various reasons, but you couldn't have picked two people that fit together better and how they would love and fight for Melody.

With all that said, I have to also mention the great duet narration from Savannah Peachwood and Sebastian York in the audiobook. They captured who Winnie and Archer were as characters flawlessly. The steadfastness and sweetness of Winnie and even cute little Melody's character was brought to life through Peachwood's performance. And the protective and loving Archer was very evident with York's portrayal. Their voices worked in tandem giving us such a sweet story to wrap up a great series.

If you like:
Single dad/nanny
Small Town
Age gap
Friends to lovers
Big family
Fun group texts
Romance author FMC
Protective MMC
with a somewhat easy path to coupledom, then you will enjoy not only this book but probably all of Laura Pavlov's brand of small town romance.
