Born in the South, raised under the Hawaiian sun, Ellie has traveled the globe while in service to her country. The love of her life, her amazing husband, is her number one fan and biggest supporter. And yes! He's read every word she's written.
This one was disappointing. The story flow was odd, it builds to a climatic ending and then just ends out of nowhere before anything happens, kind of like a novela between books.
The main issue though, was that it was disconnected from the rest of the series. The back story didn't match up with what was hinted at, the speciality and experience of the main character didn't aline with what was previously shown. In the previous book, Halo is shown as the sarcastic joking tech genius. When he's appointed this mission, he's all insecure about his abilities and says, "im a tech guy, i don't kick down doors, and I don't do it alone". In this, he's mister loner, no mention of him working with tech, and all of a sudden he's the super soldier that takes the riskiest missions?
Even the personalities of the other guys were completely different. For example, Fuse was this grumpy distrusful guy, suddenly he's portrayed as a major flirt, (even though he has a girlfriend from his book, one that was supposedly added as a permanent member of the team, and yet she's not mentioned at all?) and Mr. Chatty. It's not the first time I noticed inconsistencies, but this one was by far the most glaring. It felt like the other completely forgot there were other books in the series and we already have a perception of what these characters' personalities.
As much as I was looking forward to this one, it was not what I expected.
This is book 5 in the Cerberus series and it’s another heart pounding suspenseful romance that can be read and enjoyed as a standalone. Cassie and Diego’s story is a unique, over the top dramatic romance, brimming with all the feels this author masterfully creates! Suspenseful, with super hot chemistry, there’s a level of humor incorporated in their story was an added bonus and that made it more enjoyable. When attorney Cassie encounters some unexpected circumstances as a result of one of her cases. Being rescued by Diego was supposed to be just another assignment but unexpected challenges came up and well you’ll have to read and find out what happens next. Fast paced, intense, this slow burn romance took on some unique twists that I never saw coming. They are not meant to be…YET their chemistry was undeniable and sizzling hot. Their interactions and the relationship that developed because of the conflict before them, made it a real page turner!
Another whirlwind if a book packed with tense suspense and excitement, it was just so good I had to read this in one sitting!
Another brilliant series and Diego an Cassie were brilliant leads in this story and adventure. Both were strong and brave throughout. Their confidence and belief in each other was perfection.
A brilliant story and this has lead me desperate for the next book!
Wow just loved Halo and Cassie’s story. This series just keeps getting better and better as they all work together to undermine Phoenix. These two are non stop, page turning action from the first page till the end. Can’t wait for Torque to find out how this all works out.
This is the 5th book in the Cerberus Personal Security series. To say this book was intense is an understatement. Cassie and HALO meet when he is given the mission to rescue her from certain annihilation. Phoenix is after her and there's not a minute to waste. Cassie thought she was being kidnapped but, she is wrong. They are standoffish with each other at first. They learn to trust each other as time goes on. In spite of HALO trying to think of Cassie as a mission, she slowly breaks down his walls. He makes her feel seen and heard. Will they survive long enough to the HEA they deserve? The road to their HEA is filled with heart stopping situations like you would not believe, guaranteed. I could not put this book down. Ellie Masters is truly a great story teller. Fasten your seat belt, it's going to get wild. Sorry, no spoilers.
WOW this series is edge of your seat needing a strap and a lap bar. Halo is doing the big hill straight down right out of the gate. I love when a strong smart woman doesn’t take no for an answer and is just steady. Halo is a strong alpha operator who knows how to keep moving and a man that has lost his way.
Ellie writes books that make you hold your breath and also blow your mind at the plots she creates. If you like heart pounding hold your breath action with chemistry and characters that you will fall in love with this is your series.
I have read ,so far, all of the 5 books in this series. My favorite is Halo! The story is excellent! I can't wait to read the rest of the books that will follow. If anyone wants a really good story with great heroes and wonderful heroines this series is for you. I am fascinated with the subject about AI technology! This subject could be very real!!! Read the whole series. You won't be disappointed!!
ARC review. Halo is the fifth book in Ellie Masters’ Cerberus Personal Security series. This book continues the team’s fight to stop Phoenix. Halo’s mission is to save Cassie from being exterminated by Phoenix. The intensity in this series just keeps growing as does Halo’s and Cassie’s connection. The action is fast paced as Cerberus races to stop Phoenix from regrouping and putting the world in danger again. My heart was pounding as I turned pages to see if Halo and Cassie would have a chance for their HEA.
Exciting, action packed with plenty of mystery and suspense!! It is full of AI info which I didn't totally understand as I guess I am up there in years where this new age technology is harder for me to understand. The technology is interesting and scary at the same time. There is also a beautiful love story building throughout the book. A great book!
From the very start this book had me holding my breath! Cassie and Halo are poles apart in every way so when they come together under unusual circumstances that should be the end of story. Right?? WRONG!! It's just the beginning of an epic journey. Whew! Not for the feint of heart. All the feels are there, but the road to a happy ending is perilous . Full of potholes and terror! Just when you think you have it all figured out another twist throws you for a loop. Awesome read !!! You won't be able to put it down!
Halo's mission just got personal. Cassie Brennan's fight for justice puts her in the crosshairs of a deadly AI, and Diego 'Halo' Martinez is the only one who can keep her alive. Ellie Masters weaves a thrilling tale of danger, slow-burn heat, and walls crashing down. Waiting for the next book but I know this author is on it, so no worries there. 🤓
Cassandra Brennan is an attorney Diego “Halo” Martinez is a Cerberus Operative.
Jalo is sent to extract Cassandra Brennen by Ghost to safety because Phoenix has slated her for termination. She was amounting evidence of illegal criminal activities. Are Cerberus getting closer to ending Phoenix (AI)? Can Halo and Cassie stay alive to have a Happily Ever After? You will have to read the book.
This book is edge of your seat suspense, danger, twists, turns.
This story continues the battles/war against Phoenix AI system that is a global evil. Halo meets Cassie in her dark apt. late one night to rescue her from Phoenix kill teams. The action is non-stop, their attraction a slow burn that won't go away. Somehow they escape against crazy odds to their own HEA but not without finding possible deadly intel about Phoenix's future plans! Which leads right into the next book! Cant wait to get into Torque!
Oh boy, things are ratcheting up for Cerberus team and the showdown! Absolutely spellbinding, could not stop once I started. Cassie is a bad@@@ in her own right, so Diego has met his match! And Thorne, hope we get to hear/read his story!
Another great story to read that doesn't disappoint. Ellie Masters keeps you on the edge of your seat with all the action you could want in a single story. I'm just really excited this is part of a fantastic series. The action and romance are off the charts!
This opening installment delivers a satisfying romance in which the MMC and MFC find real love by the end, even as the larger storyline continues throughout the series. Each installment centers on a different male main character, giving every book its own emotional payoff while still building a connected world. It’s a warm, engaging start that makes continuing the series feel genuinely rewarding.
Halo by Ellie Masters, is Book 5 in the Cerberus Personal Security series, which can be read as standalone but is best if you read the series in order to understand the underlying plot. Halo is a romantic suspense where danger, trauma, and forced proximity collide. Cassie Brennan is an attorney who exposes a rogue AI with a body count and who refuses to disappear. Diego “Halo” Martinez is Cerberus’s best extractor, the man who rescues the hunted and disappears the endangered.
Halo is a fast paced and action packed right from the first chapter, when Halo, who has been sent to pick up Cassie and get her to safety, arrives at her apartment where men with guns have breached Cassie’s apartment. Cassie unaware of the imminent danger she is in and thinking that Halo is an intruder, pepper sprays him and so begins the race to get Cassie to safety.
Halo is emotionally locked down, shaped by a tragic past, doesn’t do feelings and he doesn’t get attached, until Cassie comes along. Not only is she smart but she’s principled, resilient and absolutely unwilling to be a passive victim. Together, they try to outrun an AI that predicts their moves, in a cross country escape with stolen cars and safe houses. The forced proximity and pressure builds, Cassie starts to break through Halo’s walls whilst Halo goes into “touch her and die” energy. What started as a slow burn, turns into full ignition, explosive chemistry.
Halo and Cassie’s journey blends action, tech thriller tension, with deep emotional payoff. It’s a protector romance with danger, heat, and heart, watching Halo thaw, crack, from numb to fiercely protective and finally feeling again is the heart of the book. The ending is a teaser (as opposed to a cliffy) for the next book in this series which I absolutely can’t wait for.
Ellie Masters wastes no time in putting you right n the middle of the action that will have your adrenaline pumping and heart pounding. And it stays that way throughout Halo. Diego "Halo" Martinez is focused, stoic, terse and takes too many risks but that he gets his job done. Cassie Brennan is intelligent, a fighter, thinks outside the box and has placed a huge target on her back by filing a lawsuit that shines a light on Phoenix. Cerberus may have had Phoenix scrambling after the Chicago op but they're already regrouping at a more sophisticated and spine-tingling rate. Yes, there's a connection between Halo and Cassie. One that he does everything in his power to ignore and avoid but the reality is that she's wormed her way under his walls and into his heart. But the real focus is on their flight from the Phoenix death squads and staying alive. Another adventure and tension filled romantic suspense book that will capture and hold your attention. Start to finish.
I have absolutely loved this Cerberus series! Halo is a very complex man. He comes across almost completely unfeeling at first. No emotions, no compassion, just point blank. When in fact, he might be the most emotional of the Cerberus men. It would be a close tie between him and Fuse. Both men love deeply!! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Cassie is a lawyer, she deals in logic and proof. She has a strong need to make Phoenix and the men and women behind it pay for all the evil they have done. It's truly terrifying the direction that this story has taken in regard to Phoenix. I can hardly wait for the next book to come out. That is a sure sign of an amazing series!!! I highly recommend that you read this series in order. Together they tell a terrifying that needs to be told. This book is full of action, intrigue, suspense and amazing love. Excellent read!
Halo is a tightrope stretched to breaking point, coiled with tension just waiting to snap. And when it does? It’s explosive. The pain of his past lingers heavily, tugging at your heart as you watch him cling to that formidable control. You stay on edge, knowing it’s only a matter of time before something gives.
Cassie is pure strength and grit, unafraid to push boundaries and challenge Halo at every turn. Their chemistry burns slow but fierce, building steadily until it finally ignites in a way that makes the wait completely worthwhile.
The danger stalking them feels closer than ever, ratcheting up the anxiety and keeping the adrenaline high. The sheer determination of this group of men, bound by loyalty and purpose, leaves you bracing for the coming battle—one that promises to be nothing short of epic.
Attorney Cassandra Brennan (AKA Cassie) filed court documents against Vanguard Defense Project Sentinel, a company imbedded in the autonomous Phoenix AI project, she immediately topped the kill list by the renegade group...and when she hears someone breaking into her apartment, pepper sprays Diego Martinez (AKA Halo) of Cerberus Personal Security who was there to get her out and to safety, moments before kill squad from Phoenix breaks in...leading to heart-throbbing escape despite being hunted relentlessly across-country, following clues on who may be behind Phoenix and where they may be relocating since their servers fried and are rebuilding their networks...but beware, Phoenix still out there and Cerberus going after them, so story not over...I voluntarily read this book through an Advanced Reader Copy.
Ellie Masters is a force to be reckoned with, she is so smart and her books reflect her intelligence. Halo is another in the Phoenix series and the level of detail about AI is staggering. It is also quite terrifying to think that this is not only plausible but all too likely when you listen to the scientific community. It is also a love story with a great heroine who never falls apart and supports Halo every step of the way. A journey from one side of the country to the other, constantly being hunted and yet able to discover more horrors. A new character enters the group and is fascinating if enigmatic. A great story that will have you flipping pages but there is no conclusion yet!
Oh wow. Halo and Cassie were just the best. And what a cliffhanger!
Targeted by Phoenix, Halo an agent of Cerebus is sent to extract lawyer Cassie before a hit squad get her.
Halo was brave, a little Reckless and an ultimate hero. He matched perfectly to lawyer Cassie who was super smart and quick to catch on. But that passion and drive is in both of them.
Certainly had the suspense, danger and drama and an amazing romance. The new character of Thorne as well as the team were fantastic and showed by the support they give to Halo and Cassie in turn.
So well done. I can't wait to get the next book to sees how it all goes. Brilliant writing! So good!
I must admit this wasn't my favorite in the Cerberus Personal Security series. Cassie turned into a TSTL heroine and made this an almost DNF book for me, although I eventually pushed through. After portraying this heroine as smart, good under pressure, etc. AND, asking him what got others dead, she turns around and does the dumb thing. I literally had to walk away from the book for a few days after that. I actually liked Halo and there was good progress in the fight against Phoenix, but Cassie wasn't consistent and it annoyed me, no matter her reasons. Nice HEA for the couple, although the story continues.
Action-packed and fast-paced, we meet Halo and find out his back story as he extracts Cassie, a lawyer who has discovered something about Phoenix that has put a target on her back. As they try to hide from the AI that wants them dead, Cassie and Halo peel away the walls that surround them and discover that there is more to life with each other. A feisty FMC that doesn't want to be invisible and a MMC with a guardian angel that won't let him die are the perfect pairing in this game of survival that they have found themselves in. This book leads us into Torque's story and I can't wait to find out what happens next.
Cassie and Diego or Halo, which is his call sign, have an explosive and life threatening first encounter and whilst she fights his orders and him, she does instinctively trust him to keep her safe. As they try to outrun the AI algorithms and try to find out some further information to take down the entity, their attraction grows. Halo is fighting against past loss and she has issues of feeling unseen but they both understand the other and learn to fight together as a team. Adrenaline rush from start to finish and a thoroughly enjoyable read.
