Falling in love was nowhere in the job description.
Neither was solving a murder.
Colette Slip went to Rosebud Ranch for a contract. Her plan was Take an accounting gig and move on once she cleaned up the finances. Numbers, she could handle. But her handsome cowboy boss? That’s another story.
Marshall King is grumpy, stubborn and he needs her help. Driven to unravel the accounting mystery, Colette is thrown into an investigation that reveals more questions than answers. The last thing Marshall needs is an annoyingly attractive accountant pointing out all the ways he screwed up. How can he collaborate with her on the finances, when she’s so damn distracting? The more time he spends with Colette, the more he longs for something deeper.
When an employee is found dead at the ranch, the quest to balance the books turns into a hunt for a murderer. As the clues lead them to suspect one of their own, Marshall is determined to protect Colette. The only problem? Saving Colette might mean losing it all.
Mine for a Moment is the first interconnected standalone in the Rosebud Ranch Series. A romantic suspense blending spicy romance and intriguing mystery.

Thank you Love Notes PR and the author for giving me this copy in exchange for my honest opinion of the book
I really wanted to like it, but this book is marketed as a romantic suspense, and I'm almost 100 pages in and all I get is a MMC who keeps sexualizing and getting horny every page with the FMC... We get it, dude, you don't need to talk about it for three chapters straight, it's boring.
I was expecting a Catherine Cowles-style mystery where there's some mystery from the start, but no, the mystery hasn't been found 🤠
Even accountants know how to keep things balanced: save a horse, ride a cowboy
What starts as a simple job to assist Rosebud Ranch with a financial audit turns into an absolute whirlwind of romance and murder mystery.
This story has a beautifully set scene. A large ranch with luscious rolling green hills, grazing cattle, gentle (and sometimes needy) horses, a gorgeous winding creek, complete with a big beautiful red barn. I loved the closely-knit small town feel of this book. The senior ladies getting together and gossiping each morning at the bakery was so funny and endearing.
Loving your neighbor one of the themes that stood out to me the most. Growing up in a small town myself, I’ve learned how valuable a community can be, a moral I hold near and dear to my heart.
Colette and Marshall just have that instant spark, and oh my goodness does it absolutely show. He is dead-set on treating her right; bringing flowers, opening doors, and looking out for her safety. He is the definition of a gentleman...even when the tension starts to get a little thick.
If you’re looking for a cowboy who loves deeply and knows the value of a gesture...you have the right book in your hand.
And I cannot forget the SUSPENSE!!! The last 25% of this book had me pacing while reading on my Kindle, the plot twist was THAT good!

A special thank you to Petite Press, Victory Editing, Mimi Gunn, and NetGalley for this ARC 🫶🏻
I’ve had to DNF this at 10%. I just couldn’t get over the writing, it was very repetitive even for just being 6 chapters in and I felt like the author was over describing things. I was really excited to read a new romantic suspense book, but this one just wasn’t for me sadly.
I’d like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Romantic suspense has been really scratching an itch for me recently so I jumped at the chance to ARC-read Mine for a Moment by Mimi Gunn, the first book in the Rosebud Ranch series of interconnected standalones.
I binged it in one go the day after receiving my ARC approval, and had a good time with it! I wanted more of the suspense side of things in the first half, but it absolutely kicked in during the second half. The first half was heavy with Colette and Marshall's instant attraction for each other. I think some of those scenes with Marshall trying not to go after Colette in the first half could have been streamlined a bit because they did repeat a few times, but once he made his move, the book really found its footing.
Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy from NetGalley but this is my voluntary and honest review.
I love a good cowboy, even more when they are theoretically in my backyard 😉 This cowboy ranch is set in Alberta, where I live, so I’ll admit I’m a little biased in my opinion of this book. It’s always fun to read about places you’ve actually been to!
Mimi Gunn definitely name drops some recognizable places in Calgary and Alberta. But the depiction of Rosebud Ranch and the town of Rosebud, were so warm and welcoming. I’d definitely move there! The addition of some particularly adorable animals would make this decision very easy too.
This book overall felt very cozy to me. The author combined two of my favourite cozy genres too, small-town romance and cozy mystery, which makes for an unforgettable read.
Colette and Marshall’s love story felt tender and dreamy. There was an old-fashioned, “going steady” kind of vibe to the start of their relationship and to how it deepens. Colette starts out a bit down-on-her luck but quickly proves to be a strong and smart woman who isn’t shy about going for what she wants. And Marshall… not only is he a good cowboy, working hard at managing his family’s ranch, but he’s overall just a good boy. Usually cowboys are grumpy in these romances. But Marshall is an emotionally intelligent, soft, and thoughtful man. The vulnerability in his character was so refreshing to read. But don’t let that make you believe this cowboy doesn’t have a dirty mouth, because he definitely does and this book got spicy! It’s not overly explicit but it’s hot and works so well for Colette and Marshall.
The mystery plot that was weaved in with the romance was interesting as well. It definitely keeps you on your toes and there are heart clenching moments with some endearing characters of this small town.
For me personally, this book felt too long. It was a bit slow to start and some chapters just read quite long for me. This might have to do with the POV of this book, which is 3rd person. I’m more used to romances being in 1st person, so it was difficult to switch modes in the beginning. But I also did read this as an ARC, so take that with a grain of salt!
Thank you so much to the author, NetGalley and Love Notes PR for a chance to read this book early 💕
I didn’t like this book. I always feel bad for saying this, but it happens. The only reason I gave this 3 stars instead of 2 is because of the crime aspect.
Let’s start with what I did like. The crime aspect of this book was amazing. I was on the edge of my seat during all the crime scenes. I was trying to guess who did it but couldn’t figure it out. The reveal left me shocked!
I also really liked Evan (not the MMC). He was so cute and such a good guy. If the next book is about him, I’ll probably read it, just because I liked him the most in this book.
Okay, on to what I didn’t like. I’ll try to keep it short. - The characters felt superficial - I couldn’t connect with anyone - The romance part felt ickish - I’m sorry, but what is Marshall for a possessive asshole..? ‘If I can’t have her, no one can’ in a bad way… Collette wanted to bake cookies for the team to introduce herself as the new employee. Simply because Marshall didn’t want other guys to ‘see’ her, he just told her they wouldn’t eat the cookies?? Dude? And then, when she decided to ignore him and bake the cookies anyway, he took ALL the cookies for himself??? Dude. He gave me the ick with his possessiveness.
Okay, maybe I just really disliked Marshall, but that resulted in disliking the book.
ARC Review! Mine for a Moment is the first interconnected standalone in the Rosebud Ranch Series. A romantic suspense blending spicy romance and intriguing mystery.
Colette arrived at Rosebud Ranch for a simple accounting short-term contract, but her grumpy, stubborn (and very attractive) boss, Marshall, quickly complicates things. As she digs into the ranch’s messy finances, the numbers don’t add up and neither do the secrets.
When an employee turns up dead, their investigation takes a dangerous turn. With suspicion closing in and tension rising between them, Marshall will do anything to protect Colette.
I love a romance that blends thriller vibes! This was such a fun read and the dual POV fit in perfectly to give you a glimpse of how they really feel. I enjoyed the tension that Colette and Marshall had early on. Their storyline didn’t feel rushed and it kept me wanting to know more. It was a spot on mix of romance and cozy mystery.
sweet, spicy, swooning, kicking my feet. a cowboy romantic suspense had me swooning a lot. at first it started out very slow but once it picked up it was so good. it's the way both marshall and collette went through a lot that they met on the ranch. the murder that occurred surprised me. i love me a good small town romance that will get me kick my feet and smiling. i can't wait to read more with the series. thank you to mimi gunn & lovenotespr for gifted ebook in exchange for a honest review

Thank you so much @mimigunnbooks and @lovenotes.pr for the opportunity ❤️

I can't say no to a romance with a little bit of mystery. Gotta say, I've been watching enough mysteries to guess who caused the problems. You follow Jake, the ranch owner, and Colette, an accountant. Their personalities were such a good balance. It was fun and flirty. They found one another in their loneliness. Honestly, they both had such great support systems that made the characters relatable with how they got to this moment
This is a fish-out-of-water romance that sees the city girl fall for the country boy while weaving in suspense elements. There are some sweet scenes and an overarching mystery for the reader to try and solve alongside the protagonists.
While it has an interesting enough plot, the writing style just wasn’t my cup of tea. There was repetitive back-and-forth internal dialogue that left me frustrated with the characters. It felt like the characters were mostly in their own heads at the expense of interaction with each other.
I read an ARC via NetGalley. My thoughts and opinions are my own.
I am not a huge thriller/suspense kind of book person, so I was very intrigued by how this suspense romance would be and it was actually very good!
This book has that small town/ranch feel mixed with a romance and mystery. It is in third person which made it slightly hard to follow at first, but once you get used to it the book flowed nicely. Being a romance gal, I obviously enjoyed watching the MMC and FMC fall for each other. But the mystery tangled into this story was just an added bonus!
Marshall is your reformed playboy who ends up working on his family’s ranch. He takes over finances when their book keeper leaves abruptly, and things slowly start going downhill. Insert Colette, who got let go of her city job and gets hired to help with the finances on the King’s ranch. When Colette finds that there are some holes in the finances and things aren’t adding up, she feels responsible to help Marshall and the King family figure out what’s going on. The ranch life isn’t exactly for Colette, but her presence is addicting to Marshall. She slowly gets under his skin and he can’t keep her away. Of course they give in to the fight of their attraction to each other. And together they solve the mystery of what’s happening on the ranch.
I really enjoyed Marshall and Colette’s wanting of each other, and the little teases they give each other. Their budding relationship was sweet, caring, and just spicy enough!
The suspense is sprinkled in throughout the book, and the parts you do get are really good. They will get you wondering “who did it” and keep you flipping the pages faster.
This was an ARC read for me, and these are my honest opinions.
Thank you Mimi Gunn for the review copy of this book and trusting me as part of your team.
Mine for a Moment follows city girl Colette who's been made redundant from her job and find a new temp job working out what's gone wrong with the accounts at Rosebud Ranch. She is determined to do the job then get back to her life but fate has other plans when she starts to know Marshall our grumpy male lead who is bearing the burden of things going wrong at the ranch. There's cows, there's karaoke and there's even a touch of murder in this wonderful book which leaves you wanting more from this series. I personally can't wait to read the next book!
I knew I would love Mine for a Moment from the first chapter. It has a perfect blend of small town cowboy vibes with a twist of suspense and it blends romance and suspense/mystery in a way that isn't always easy. The plot and pacing is good, the world building/ scene setting is well managed and the characters are perfection. The spice was well done, though it's definitely on the spicier side of things than some others I've read but it was well blended and not excessive.
I am fairly new to cowboy romances and this one was amazing for me as it blended cowboy with mystery which is a favourite genre of mine. So glad I signed up for this one and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone who enjoys cowboy romances and anyone who enjoys a good mystery novel as both are catered to well.
Mimi!! These two were so unbelievably sweet I could hardly handle it. 🥹
Colette loses her city job and reluctantly takes a position as an accountant at Rosebud Ranch… not realizing her life is about to change in the best (and most complicated) way.
Marshall, on the other hand, feels like the family disappointment. The ranch is struggling, and no matter how hard he works, he can’t figure out why. So when his grandfather hires an accountant to sort out the finances, it hits him hard. To Marshall, it feels like proof that he’s already failed.
But when Colette arrives, it doesn’t take long for her to realize something is seriously wrong with the ranch’s finances. She’s determined to uncover the truth… if only the broody, frustratingly handsome cowboy running the place didn’t keep completely wrecking her focus.
The tension between these two? Absolutely electric. You could feel the longing in every page. The slow burn was delicious, and I adored the way Colette playfully pushed Marshall, teasing him just enough to make him unravel. The angst was everything, the kind that makes your heart ache in the best way.
And when we finally get that “to hell with it” moment… whew. 🔥 Let’s just say the spice did not disappoint. My swooning levels were in full activation mode the entire time. 🫠
Honestly, it was the perfect blend of romance that makes your heart flutter, spice that gives you goosebumps, and just enough murder mystery to keep you turning the pages. The ultimate combo. 🔥❤️🔎
Mine for Moment is a small town, ranch, mystery 3rd person romance story.
I liked Mine for Moment. The main characters Marshall and Colette were both likable and relatable. Marshall is the reformed playboy working on his family ranch and dealing with their finances. While Colette is a city girl that get hired to help Marshall’s family with their finances. When these two meet there is this back and forth with each other with this underlining of chemistry and attraction between them. I loved watching the development and growth of Marshall and Colette relationship. From them having this bickering, caring. To have spicy moments between them.
Another things I like about this book was, that I found that balance of romance and mystery was good. You get the romance story with Marshall and Colette but then you get the suspense throw in that will have you hooked and have you wondering who’s at fault. The pace and flow of the story was good. It was easy to follow and easy to understand. The spicey scenes were written well. They weren’t over the top or cheesy. The amount of spicey scenes was good. There wasn’t too many that they over took the story or too little that you wish there was more.
Overall, Mine for Moment is a good read. Marshall and Colette are good main characters. The story is a good romance and suspenseful story that will have you hooked from the first page all the way to end.
A huge shoutout to LoveNotes PR and Mimi Gunn for allowing me to read this book! It was definitely a surprise. There is so much story in this book. There's mystery, suspense, thriller, and love. It's written extremely well and has a couple of great spicy scenes. Colette really was an interesting character, and so was Marshall. Their chemistry was noticeable from the beginning, and I love the direction it went. Colette's friends really are great for her, and I love how they are so supportive. Marshall's family and the farm. It definitely gets dicey when Colette is brought onto the farm to help with finances after the previous accountant "up and vanished" to Mexico, or at least that's what is being said. Definitely called the villain from the get-go, don't ask me how I knew, but I knew. Really interested to find out what happens next in the series. Hopefully, we find out what happened to/where Agnes is. And from the tidbit at the end, it appears Evan will be our MMC in the next book! Can't wait!
Again, thank you to LoveNotesPR and Mimi Gunn for letting me read this as an ARC.
In need of a new job, a friend suggests an opening at ranch that has come up, who are in desperate need of Collette's accounting skills to help sort out mysterious discrepancies that have arisen following the retirement and swift departure of their own long term accountant. Collette takes a leap outside her comfort zone and temporarily moves to the ranch. Once there she meets her new boss, the grumpy cowboy Marshall.
Marshall never intended to run a ranch but since being at the helm he's been determined not to fail his families business and right now he feels as if he is, big time! Working closely with Collette, Marshall finds it difficult to ignore his growing attraction to her and together they work to find what the hell is going on at Rosebud Ranch.
These two make an incredibly sweet couple. Marshall is absolutely adoring of Collette, and she in return is determined to get Marshalll to believe in his worth and that he's not responsible every little thing that goes wrong.
The mystery that evolves keeps you hooked and I'm happy to say I never saw the answers to it coming.
I loved the story from start to finish and really hope the series continues in the future
4.5 ⭐️ Read First I want to thank the author Mimi Gunn and Love Notes PR for giving me an eARC of this book!!! I enjoyed this Romance and Suspense book. I loved all the twists and turns throughout this book too. Loved the romance between Colette and Marshall in this book. Loved Marshall and Evan's friendship in this book as well. Loved Colette's friendship with her friends Cameron and Simone throughout this book. Loved all the side characters in this book. And I loved Rosebud Ranch and Colette and Marshall spending their time there and together throughout this book. Glad that Colette came to Rosebud Ranch to help out but she also fell in love with Marshall too. Loved the mystery throughout this book and Cloette and Marshall trying to figure out what happen too . And I was so happy that they got an happy ending together. And I would recommed this book to anyone who loves a good romantic and mystery book. And I can't wait to read the next book in this series and also other books by Mimi Gunn.
The chemistry between Marshall and Colette is undeniable! Their connection is instantaneous and has a building intensity that made it easy to become invested in their story! And the mystery to be solved kept me intrigued!
That being said, the story does leans a bit too heavily on redundant themes—particularly possessiveness and emotional conflict. While these elements are clearly central to the romance, they’re reiterated so often that they lose some of their impact. Marshall’s self narrative of how he’s a ‘good guy, just protecting Colette from the other ranch hands’ is possessively creepy. Why is he employing people he needs to protect Colette from? It’s mentioned several times throughout the book. Similar to telling Colette to close her curtains instead of telling the ranch employees to not creep on her through the window. Misplaced priorities here. And the theme of Marshall being a reformed bachelor was ran into the ground a little too much.
Mine for a Moment by Mimi Gunn was a pleasure to read before its release! Although I didn’t quite finish before the release but I did finish it & I can say that it was slow at first but the romance & suspense to what was happening on the ranch had me hooked.
I needed to know what was happening to the finances & the people on the ranch & that’s what got me to the end of the book. Marshall being a reformed play boy & Collette being a woman who never was shown her worth, are the perfect pair because Marshall showed her how much he cared & she was able to change him for the better. I did not see the twist toward the end but it sure kept me on my toes! I really enjoyed this book & I hope you have a chance to read it too!
If you are looking for a cozy romance full of suspense and mystery, you’ve got to pick this one up.
Marshall is a reformed playboy, running his family’s ranch. Colette is a city girl and a newly unemployed accountant looking for her next step. So of course, Colette moves to the ranch to work on cleaning up the mess that is their books. But as Colette uncovers even more unexplainable things happening on the ranch, she finds herself turning to the one person who can help her figure it out.
Marshall and Colette have undeniable chemistry but how can they make it work when their lives are so different? Will they be able to solve the mystery of what is going on at the ranch? Grab a copy of Mine for a Moment to find out!!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶️🌶️ ✨Romantic Suspense ✨Cowboy Romance ✨Adorable Animals ✨Small Town ✨Fighting Insta Lust Mine For A Moment was so good. I loved the romance-y beginning of the characters meeting and trying to not give in to temptation. Then the slow building of their relationship as we see something nefarious might be going on at the ranch. Once the suspense kicked in full force there were definitely moments that had me holding my breath. I am in love with Marshall and Collette and their story. Highly recommend!
Mine for a Moment grabbed me from page one. Equal parts swoony romance and clever whodunit. Colette’s sharp, numbers first personality and grumpy but protective Marshall make a sizzling, believable pair, and the mystery adds some real stakes. Pacing stalls a touch in the middle, but strong chemistry and tidy twists keep it enjoyable. Definitely recommended for readers who like cowboy heat with a mystery twist.
Thank you to Love Notes PR and Mimi for providing me with a copy of Mine for a Moment. As always, my opinions are my own.
This was a good read with cozy mystery vibes. The characters were entertaining and the banter was great. Colette and Marshall have an instant connection. Marshall is the definition of a gentleman with bringing her flowers, opening doors, the whole bit. Marshall blushing at the spicy scenes in Colette's romance books was so cute. The side characters were great. The blend of romance and suspense was perfect. I wasn't able to figure out the culprit until the end. I can't wait for more from this series. ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌶️🌶️
I received this book as an ARC read, I was skeptical at first, it didn't draw me in right away, but the suspense towards the end was intense and kept me wanting more! I loved the passion and connection between Marshall and Collette. I can't wait to read Evans story next! The spice was definitely 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
A cute small town romance (my fav 🤭) following Collete who is an accountant tasked with figuring out what went wrong at the ranch since Marshall took over🙈
They go from a not so great first impression to not being able to get the other out of their minds and the rest is history 🤭💜
What to expect: 🏡 Small Town 🥰 Strangers to Lovers 💼 Workplace Romance 😈 Shady Seniors 🎤 Cringey Karaoke 🕵️♀️ Cozy Mystery Vibes 🤠 Cowboy Romance 🤭 Accountant FMC x Rancher MMC 💞 Good Girl x Good Boy
I enjoyed Mine for a Moment. The relationship building felt natural, which made it easy to get invested in the characters and their connection. The ranch setting added a cozy, grounded vibe that perfectly complemented the story.
What really stood out to me was the subtle thriller element woven in. It added just enough tension to keep things interesting and broke up the predictability you sometimes find in traditional romance plots. Overall, a well-balanced and engaging read that I’d recommend.
This was an enjoyable mix of romance and mystery set on a ranch. I liked the dynamic between Colette and Marshall, and the small-town setting added a nice charm to the story.
The blend of romance with a suspense element kept things interesting, especially as the investigation developed. It was an easy read overall and a solid start to the series.
