A new baseball romance from Amazon top 40 best-selling author Hannah Cowan!
Aubrey
I’m good at a lot of things.
Arguing in court, reading people, and knowing when a man is about to disappoint me. Dating, though? I’m apparently terrible at that. Somewhere between my second drink and the first red flag I can’t unsee, I start picking men apart like it’s my job. Which, oftentimes actually is.
Still, continuing to stay single has never been a problem for me . . . until it suddenly is.
When annoying workplace gossip leaves me needing to flaunt a new man, I decide the best way to get everyone off my back is to give them what they want. So I do the only sensible thing I can think of. I ask my best friend for help.
Finn has known me since we were kids. He knows my habits and exactly how fast I bolt when something feels off. He agrees to coach me through dates and teach me how to stop scaring men away.
But what he doesn’t know is that the more time we spend pretending this isn’t changing anything between us, the harder it becomes to ignore how easy being with him feels, and how impossible it is to pretend I don’t want more.
Finn
Saying yes to Aubrey was easy.
She’s my best friend and the person I trust most in a world where that isn’t easy. Helping her navigate a few dates shouldn’t be a problem. I’ve pitched in front of thousands of people during high pressure games for the Vancouver Havoc. I know how to stay calm, read a situation, and keep my head on straight when everything’s on the line.
Giving dating advice? That sounds simple enough. Except the more time I spend helping her find a boyfriend, the more the lines blur and I see what I’ve been blind to all these years.

Thanks to Hannah Cowan and her team for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Finn & Aubrey's book was sooo good, it might actually be my favorite from Hannah! It's also the first childhood friends to lovers that I absolutely adored!!! It was done so well that I couldn't stop reading and finished it in one sitting. I loved Aubrey sooo much and Finn was the perfect book boyfriend from the start. I'm so excited for this new series and can't wait for the next book!
Tropes: • childhood friends to lovers • baseball romance • found family • black cat × golden retriever • dating coach • yearning
Normally, (best) friends to lovers isn’t my favourite trope, but I love Hannah Cowan’s books, so I had a feeling I’d end up loving this one anyway, and I was right.
Aubrey was truly the boss bitch of boss bitches. I absolutely adored her. What a queen. She’s a strong woman with an even stronger personality. She knows exactly what she wants in every aspect of her life and goes after it (slay queenie). She’s a total powerhouse, and I loved seeing her find a man who lets her shine instead of dimming her light.
Finn? A walking green flag. I loved him so much. He sees Aubrey’s value from the start (even in friendship) and never tries to hold her back. Instead, he supports her and lets her be exactly who she is, which made their dynamic so satisfying to read.
The tension and slow burn in this book were so good. You could feel there had always been something between them, but they were both too scared to cross that line. But when they finally do… 😏😏😏
The found family aspect was also really strong in this book, which I loved. It made the story feel even richer, and it definitely has me excited to see more of these characters in the rest of the series.
I’m not going to lie, I was genuinely shocked when I saw that the next book is going to be about Brielle and Roman. But honestly? I’m here for it and I cannot wait!!
Friends to Lovers is the superior trope, and this book just proves to me why I shout that off every rooftop I can find. This was perfection. Finn and Aubrey were everything.
The way they were part of the same whole and just needed a little push to see each other clearly… 🫠🫠🫠 I about melted out of my seat.
✨baseball romance ✨friends to lovers ✨ dating coach ✨ black cat x golden retriever ✨ found family
Dare I say it, but this is my new favorite Hannah Cowan book. Hands down. This book was written like a love letter to my soul. It was everything I wanted.
Finn and Aubrey’s relationship is so honest and so special. These two at every single turn chose each other instead of running, and my heart couldn’t even recover.
Finn. The man that you are. This man was all I. The second he decided Bree was his endgame and this man did not falter not even once.
I love him.
And our tough girl. Aubrey. Ugh I adore her and her bravado and her need to make something of herself in a male dominated field. I love the hard FMCs because it means something just a little extra special when they turn soft to the right person.
This book was perfect. This team is going to be my entire personality and I absolutely want to live here forever .
Was truly BLESSED by Hannah and given the opportunity to Alpha read this and I must say she hit it out of the park (see what I did there 😉) I am obsessed and can’t wait for everyone to read this!
for friends to lovers this was one of the better ones! no pining on either side. they both knew the other was attractive, had crushes for a short time in the past that they got over and didn’t think of each other romantically until he started helping her.
she’s a serial dater (not many going past a first date) and he had a few short term relationship
i will say the scene of her following him on his fake date was not needed 🫠
This was different for Hannah but it worked out well because Finn was all the walking green flags. Aubrey and Finn’s relationship is so unique in the way that they have been friends for so long, they already knew each other so taking that final step, it was scary but so worth it.
RUTHLESS is the only way to describe our FMC but she’s also a boss b!tch so there’s that. She did not take anything from anyone and Finn just fueled the fire. This man did not let anyone talk bad about her because he knew who she really was.
These two are as close as you can get and are so scared about having an attraction to each other. Not seeing the signs that have always been there. Also, these two not realizing everyone they’ve dated has worked out because they have always been endgame.
I loved the tension building and slow burn of this book. You could tell there had always been something there but they were both too scared to act on it. But when they finally do, all bets are off.
I do love the found family in this book and the building of the books that are to come.
Thank you to Hannah Cowan for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Tropes: ⚾️Best friends to lovers ⚾️Dating coach ⚾️Baseball romance ⚾️Black cat x golden retriever ⚾️Maneater heroine
A baseball romance from Hannah Cowan? Yes please! I was itching to get my hands on this arc, and I ate it up, it was so good!
I absolutely adored Audrey and her manhater tendencies, and her ambition to succeed in her career was so great to read about and a breath of fresh air; she wasn't focused on wanting a family, but rather being a partner at her lawfirm and I loved that so much. Her interactions with Spencer had me seething, the little weasel was obviously jealous of her success and just proves why she's a manhater (as she should be).
Finn was Audrey's opposite, sweet and friendly, he brought found family vibes with his baseball team and I'm so excited to see where those vibes go with the rest of the series! The way he yearned for Audrey was simply * chef's kiss*. Best friends to lovers is a hard trope to get right in my opinion, but Hannah slayed it here; I couldn't get enough of Finn and Audrey!
This is the beginning of a fantastic series I'm sure of it, and I cannot wait to be back with these characters for Brielle and Roman's story!
Thank you to Hannah Cowan for a copy in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.
A baseball romance AND friends to lovers by Hannah Cowan? SIGN. ME. UP. IMMEDIATELY!!! ⚾️🔥
I absolutely loved Aubrey. I related to her so much….she’s a little jaded when it comes to men (honestly… valid 🤣) and she has zero problem saying exactly what she thinks. The girl radiates bad b!tch boss energy and I devoured every second of it. She’s sharp, funny, and unapologetically herself. And her co-worker can honestly just go shove it straight up his wazoo because that man had me seeing red 😡
And then there’s Finn… the complete opposite in the best possible way. This MAN!!! He’s so sweet, so caring, and the way he treats Aubrey? Swoon city. Even before he realizes it, you can tell this man is down bad for his best friend through everything he does. The little moments, the way he shows up for her, the way he talks to her….I was melting.
And when these two FINALLY decided to go for it?? GIRLS. When I tell you I screamed!!! I have never rooted harder for two people to just get together already. The tension, the chemistry, the history, I could not get enough of Finn and Aubrey!!!
I also loved the entire cast in this new series and I am so ready for Brielle and Roman’s story. I need it ASAP. (And it’s going to have one of my fav tropes 🤭🔥)
I have to remind myself that he’s my best friend and that I’m not supposed to be staring at his body like I want to use it as my next favourite toy.
💚⚾️🧢⚾️💚
Fake dating a baseball player? Yes please 🙌 I absolutely loved their banter and the friends to lovers of it all.
Aubrey is a strong, successful, and independent woman but given her job is marital law she’s lost faith in men and relationships. In walks her bestie Finn who wants to help her open up her heart to happiness… but will he help her find love with a stranger or himself?
My heart ached for Aubrey & Finn. They’ve had feelings for each other for years but are afraid to ruin their lifelong friendship. Their banter was perfection and I loved their dynamic. Watching them find their happily ever after was a balm on my soul.
Like with any new series, Cowan introduced us to the Vancouver Havoc roster and I can’t wait for their stories to come next! Can’t wait for the single daddy story! Eek!
okay hannahhh slayyyy in her baseball era 🥵 I’m so excited to start a new series by Hannah! She is one of my all time favourite authors! I loveeddd this book! I’m a sucker for a childhood best friends to lovers book and this one nailed it! Finn and Aubrey have been friends since they were little, have always loved each other but both have been to scared to admit it. Aubrey being the girl boss she is, (slayyy 💅) finds herself needing to get her workmates off her back about her love life, here enters Finn. Finn desires that she needs a dating coach, after going on a lot of terrible dates, he plans dates to show her what she should be looking for. Only they end up falling for each other and finally airing their feelings! I loveeee the slow burn in this book and when they finally both realise they were meant for each other all along 🙊🥹 The yearning Finn does whilst waiting for Aubrey to figure out her feelings was like perfect book boyfriend hehe
This is book one of this new series! I really enjoyed this book, I haven’t read many friends to lovers but I really like this one. You could really feel like the relationship was supposed to happen and instead of feeling forced.
Aubrey was a great character, she struggles with men and dating, she was a man hater, but Finn, nothing about him gave her the ick. She’s strong, independent but also I wanted to strangler her at the end like come on!!!!
Finn, he’s perfect he’s a total sweetheart, he’s funny, filthy, caring, and obsessive and possessive. He really cared for Aubrey and honestly he just made me feel all gooey inside cause he was just so sweet and a great man!
The spice was minimal I would say 🌶️🌶️ over a great read, sweet and I definitely recommend
What a way to kick off a new series. I loved so much about this book from the found family vibe of the baseball team to the way Finn and Aubrey’s relationship developed from friends to lovers. Watching Aubrey finally open up to him was both beautiful and heartbreaking. She’s carried so much alone, and seeing her let those walls crack was everything.
Aubrey is such a great character. She’s strong, independent, a self proclaimed manhater who can’t make dating work… except with Finn, who never once gives her the ick. And Finn was perfection. Sweet, filthy, funny, caring, obsessive in the best way. Every scene with him turned me into mush.
This book was so fun and I’m already counting down to the next one.
I loved every second of this book. It actually had me kicking my feet and giggling like a little school girl. It’s books like this that further prove my point of friends to lovers being superior to enemies to lovers. I can’t wait for more in this series because I’m already so invested in the side characters!
I love Hannah Cowans books but this one took me a good 40% to actually get into it.
I am excited for the next books in the series though as I got to know all the characters in this book and it’s definitely got a good found family feel to it which I love.
⭐⭐⭐⭐💫 Read this book for: 👠 Best Friends to Lovers ⚾ Dating Coach 👠 Baseball Romance ⚾ Yearning 👠 Golden Retriever x Black Cat ⚾ Manhater Heroine
Synopsis Aubrey Evans is excellent at reading people. As a lawyer, it’s practically her superpower. Unfortunately, that same skill makes dating nearly impossible. One drink in and she’s already spotted every red flag, every hidden motive, and every reason the man across from her won’t last the night.
Being single has never bothered her until office gossip suddenly turns her love life into everyone else’s favorite topic.
Her solution? Pretend she has things under control with the help of the one person who knows her better than anyone else: her best friend, Finn.
Finn has always been steady, dependable, and impossible to rattle, even under the pressure of playing professional baseball for the Vancouver Havoc. Coaching Aubrey through dating should be easy. He knows her habits, her defenses, and exactly when she’s about to run.
But the more time they spend together analyzing dates and practicing how to impress other men, the more Finn realizes something he should have seen years ago.
He doesn’t want to help Aubrey find the right guy.
He wants to be the one she chooses.
My Thoughts Hannah Cowan really has set the bar high for this new series.
A man hater going on multiple dates to find a fake date, while her best friend becomes her dating coach? SIGN ME UP!
I absolutely loved Aubrey as an FMC. I actually finished the book on IWD, which felt incredibly fitting because she truly embodies a strong woman. She has such a strong personality, knows exactly what she wants and maybe even more importantly what she does not want, and she is a total powerhouse. But I also appreciated that she sometimes wants to take a step back and let a man lead without that ever making her feel smaller or less powerful.
And that is exactly where Finn comes in. After so many years of friendship they know each other inside and out, and their connection felt so genuine. The transition from best friends to lovers felt completely natural and they just made so much sense together. Finn was everything I wanted him to be. I loved how supportive he is, not just of Aubrey as a person but of her career too. He never tries to dictate her life or decisions and lets her set the pace for everything. As long as he gets to be part of it that is all he really wants. He does not mind her taking the spotlight as long as he can stand beside her and maybe show her off a little.
Another thing I really loved were the side characters, especially the teammates and of course her best friend Brielle. They were absolutely hilarious and their group dynamic added so much to the story. The banter, the support, the chaos, it all worked so well.
And now I am already counting down the days until Roman and Brielle’s story in the second book this summer, because if it is anything like this one we are in for something special.
"Maybe I was just blind. What if I was looking for something—for someone, who was always right in front of me? The thought hits me like a train, my blood pumping a little faster. I’m so screwed.”
✔️baseball romance ✔️best friends to lovers ✔️dating coach ✔️golden retriever x black cat ✔️yearning ✔️found family ✔️no (true) 3rd act breakup
The entire time I was reading this book, the Taylor Swift song “Ruin the Friendship” was on repeat in my mind. Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, and this one is excellent. Finn (MMC) and Aubrey (FMC) are perfect for each other, but blind to reality. The idea that they are platonic soulmates is so far off base it isn’t even funny, and neither of them fully realize it. I simultaneously wanted them to wake up and see the truth of their feelings for each other and never wanting the story to end because they are so cute together. This book is the perfect length (I would love to see more of them because I love them together but I can admit that a longer story isn’t necessary here), and the pacing kept me engaged in the story and not wanting to put it down.
Aubrey is a lawyer, the youngest person at her firm to be promoted to the level she is at, and with that comes enemies and expectations. She is having a difficult time finding a man that she connects with on a personal level, and after lying to her work nemesis about having a boyfriend, she enlists the help of Finn (her pro baseball pitcher best friend) to teach her how to be a better date. However, those pesky feelings of jealousy and attraction start to get in the way, and the two of them have to decide how far they can push out of their comfort zones and risk changing their decades-long friendship. The found family here is so great, and one of the reasons I love sports romance so much. I am already so curious about all of the side characters that were introduced, and I want to see them all find love because they are all great. There is also a fun cameo in this book that relates to one of this author’s previous series (I don’t know if it’s a spoiler but I don’t want to ruin it if it is). I appreciate that we actually get to see Finn and his teammates play the sport they love and we see Aubrey being a badass at work as well.
There is a bit of a conflict in the third act, but I (personally) don’t consider it to be a true breakup. That said, the apology scene is excellent and so true to these characters, and I appreciate that it doesn’t follow the typical “man messes up and has to grovel” scenario that we typically see in romance novels. This is a great start to a new series, and I am excited to read the next one when it is released!!
*Thank you so much to the author (Hannah Cowan) and her team for the opportunity to ARC read this book! All opinions are my own*
As usual, Hannah delivered a book that I absolutely loved and couldn’t put down.
From the very beginning, it was painfully obvious to everyone except Finn and Aubrey that they were endgame. Their constant presence in each other’s lives, the natural affection, and the way they showed up for one another made the outcome inevitable—and watching them slowly catch up to what everyone else already knew was incredibly satisfying.
Finn helping Aubrey find dates and then willingly sticking around for them was completely unhinged in the best way. Every interaction quietly revealed how deeply he cared, even when he didn’t fully understand his own feelings yet. He was exactly what Aubrey needed—not just as a best friend, but ultimately as a life partner. His unwavering support, protectiveness, and adoration were everything, and I loved that he still respected himself enough to set boundaries and speak up when her decisions crossed a line.
Aubrey was an absolute powerhouse. Seeing a woman who worked tirelessly to build her career was inspiring, and her hesitations in her personal life felt realistic and understandable. I loved that, despite all the changes in their lives, her connection with Finn remained constant. Watching her find the courage to act on her evolving feelings was incredibly rewarding. Yes, her choices surrounding the gala were frustrating—but that frustration only made the emotional payoff stronger in the end.
The chemistry between Finn and Aubrey was insane. Their transition from friends to lovers felt effortless, natural, and completely earned.
As for Spencer—top-tier trash. While he didn’t face nearly enough consequences for my liking, it was still deeply satisfying to see Finn step in and put him in his place when it mattered most.
This group of players already feels like a found family I’m fully invested in, and I cannot wait to see where their stories go next.
Tropes: Baseball Romance Golden Retriever x Black Cat Dating Coach He Falls First Best Friends to Lovers Found Family
Thank you Hannah for an eARC in exchange of my honest review.
What to expect? ⚾️BASEBALL ROMANCE 🍓BEST FRIENDS TO LOVERS ⚾️DATING COACH 🍓GOLDEN RETRIEVER X BLACK CAT ⚾️FOUND FAMILY 🍓 MANHATE FMC ⚾️BLURRED LINES
“The number on her back is the same one she always wears, but it holds a heavier meaning today. It marks her as mine.”
HAPPY RELEASE DAY HANNAH!!
Man, I fell in love hard and fast with the story that is 100% Aubrey and Finn. I absolutely LOVE a good best friends to lovers sitch because they already know the best and worst of each other and love each other more for it. That being said they also ignore and play ignorant to the feelings that everyone around them can see for sure.
Finn…such a good boy in the best way possible. Like how do you get lucky enough to have a male best friend who shows you how you should be expected to be treated as a woman. And also a man who isn’t intimidated by his best friend and her great success but rather continuously cheers her on as much as she does him at his games.
Aubrey? A total gem even with her black cat energy. It truly doesn’t come out if the circumstances are right. However, she has such a jaded past of trust issues with jer parents that she’s inherently rude or standoffish with these men she’s been dating. But come on?? We shouldn’t have to have her make those decisions when she’s certainly unclear what she wants.
Insert dating coaching from Finn and there’s no way they don’t wind up together. Once Finn convinces her to let him take her on a date it’s game over and she can no longer keep her guard up.
1000/10 must read this first book in a series because the rest of the Havoc team is just as scrumptious and we know most of them names will certainly become their own book and I can’t freaking wait for book 2! There’s a sneak peak of another series couple in here and you’ll absolutely love the scene. 😉
Happy release day again and thank you for writing such beautiful characters. 🫶🏻
I’ll be honest… best friends to lovers usually isn’t my go-to trope. But Aubrey and Finn completely proved me wrong because their connection was absolute FIREWORKS!!
Aubrey the baddie lawyer who analyzes everything & I mean everything.. every date, every red flag, every tiny flaw, yeah she sees it all, which makes it nearly impossible for her to find someone she actually connects with. Meanwhile Finn, our golden retriever baseball king, has been right there the entire time… her best friend, her constant, her safe place for twenty years.
When Finn steps in as her “dating coach” to help her figure out what she wants in a man, I was internally screaming because Finn, sweet sweet Finn had known for a long time ago that the man she’s looking for… is him. But because Aubrey never crossed that line, Finn locked those feelings away and buried them deep, and the tension that creates between them is EVERYTHING. Cue the SQUEALS!
Aubrey brings the black cat energy — guarded, analytical, and careful with her heart — while Finn is patient, loyal, and quietly devoted in that golden retriever way that just melts you. Watching them dance around what’s right in front of them for so long had me completely hooked. The looks, the moments, the way they understand each other better than anyone else but still refuse to admit what’s been there all along… it was the perfect slow burn.
And when Aubrey finally reaches the point where she can’t pretend anymore? When that realization hits that it was always Finn? I was DONE. The build up was flawless, the tension was incredible, and watching two people who have always been each other’s person finally realize it was them all along felt so magical.
I didn’t expect to fall this hard for a best friends to lovers story, but Aubrey and Finn absolutely stole my heart. Sometimes the love of your life isn’t someone new… sometimes it’s the person who’s been standing beside you the entire time!
Best friends. Dating lessons. And the slow realisation that the right person might have been there all along.
Crossed Signals is a sweet, swoony friends-to-lovers sports romance that perfectly captures the tension between comfort and the terrifying possibility of wanting more.
Aubrey is confident, sharp, and incredibly good at reading people—something that makes her a great lawyer but a terrible dater. Somewhere between spotting red flags and analysing every little thing, she’s developed a habit of sabotaging her own love life. But when workplace gossip puts her relationship status under a microscope, she decides it’s time to finally figure out how to date properly. So she turns to the one person she trusts most. Finn.
Professional baseball pitcher, lifelong best friend, and the one man who knows Aubrey better than anyone else. Teaching her how to navigate dates should be easy—after all, Finn handles pressure on the field every day. Except spending so much time helping her find the “right guy” starts to reveal something neither of them expected.
That maybe the right guy has been standing right beside her the whole time. The slow-burn tension in this book is so good. The comfort, the banter, the effortless way Aubrey and Finn fit into each other’s lives makes their transition from friends to something more feel incredibly natural.
Finn especially shines as the hero—supportive, patient, and quietly realising he’s been in love with his best friend longer than he ever admitted to himself. And Aubrey’s journey from guarded independence to letting someone truly see her adds so much heart to the story.
Tropes: ⚾ Baseball Romance 💛 Friends to Lovers 📚 Dating Lessons If you love soft, emotional sports romances with best friends who slowly realise they’re meant to be more, Crossed Signals is the kind of story that will have you smiling the entire way through.
I’m slowly but surely becoming obsessed with Hannah and her books! This one was just one more to add to my obsession list. This was my first sports romance by Hannah, but I loved that it was a baseball romance because I need more of them in my life. And Finn Avery and his ‘stache were absolute golden retriever perfection! I loved how dedicated Finn was to Aubrey throughout the story, even before they became more than friends. You could truly see that they were best friends and never lost that during the story. Finn was always ready to help Aubrey to show her that, even though she could take care of herself, she didn’t always have to (plus he wanted to take care of her). Aubrey was such a bada$$ and I want to be her when I grow up. She had so much confidence and I loved seeing it; and it was great to see Finn nurture that side of her, too, rather than try to suppress it. Aubrey fought hard for her clients, and you could see how much she cared about them at every turn. It was great to see her let her walls down for Finn in a new way during the story. She always trusted him as her best friend, but once they started getting closer in a new way, I love that she realized how right they were for each other and didn’t run from her feelings like she usually did. Seeing these two talk about anything and everything was amazing, and it was great to see their friendship grow in this story and bloom into something more. They never lost their friendship, though, and that was so great to see because it really did help their romantic relationship work out well. There was a bit of a hiccup in their relationship, but I appreciated that they both gave each other the space they needed to figure out their feelings before talking it all out and fixing things. This was such a great book, and I can’t wait to see what happens next with the Vancouver Havoc!
Could these characters be any cuter? I loved Finn and Aubrey so much. Best friends to lovers?! Sign me up every time! I devoured every single chapter!
First of all, Aubrey is such a boss. I love that she does not take crap from anyone. She is thriving in a male-dominated field and refuses to apologize for it. She had always been confident with her place in life until a coworker made a comment about how showing up single to an important gala might make her look out of place among the other couples in their circle. In a moment of panic, she blurts out that she has a boyfriend. The problem is… she definitely does not. Now she is scrambling to find someone so she does not show up alone. The easiest solution? Asking her best friend, Finn, for help.
I hated that her coworker made her feel like she could not just be a successful woman and still be taken seriously as a lawyer without having a significant other. Like, she has to be attached to a MAN to fit the image or be successful? Please! 🙄
Being the supportive best friend that he is, Finn agrees to help her by becoming her dating coach. Easy, right? Not exactly. The more time he spends helping Aubrey look for the perfect boyfriend, the more he starts to see her in a completely different way. And slowly they both begin to realize that maybe there has always been something more beneath their friendship.
Watching them fall into a relationship felt so natural. Honestly, it seemed like the easiest thing either of them had ever done. The only thing they were missing was the title. Of course, there were worries about risking years of friendship, but it also felt like they both knew what they had was special. They were willing to take the chance because deep down they already knew this was something worth holding onto. 💕
Hannah Cowan hit it out of the park (pun intended) with Crossed Signals. The dynamic between Finn and Aubrey was incredible. They are friends to lovers in the best way. Their story was so addicting and I didn’t want it to end.
Cowan does an amazing job creating found family in the realm of sports, highlighting the importance of it to the team dynamic. She also does a beautiful job creating tension between Finn and Aubrey.
The fact that these two have been friends for over 20 years creates so much history and understanding between them. Watching them come to the realization that they may actually have feelings for each other that aren’t platonic was everything. I loved that everyone around them was calling them on it before these two fully came to terms with it. Especially when you can see them actively fighting for their lives to avoid admitting they find the other attractive in a non-best friend way.
I LOVED that Finn was such a huge supporter of Aubrey and that throughout their dating lessons never once did Finn try to change Aubrey. Never once did he suggest that there was something wrong with her. He took the time to try to understand what she wanted in order to help her. He saw her and was never intimidated but who she was. The way he also never let her just shut him out but was patient with her, but still waited for open communication to happen.
Reading Aubrey’s character made me feel like I was seeing myself in a character (this happens a lot with Hannah Cowan books). She is strong, independent and loyal to those she loves. Despite everything in her life, she shows up for those she cares about. Watching her character development and fully allowing her walls to come down was beautiful. I loved the fact that she was strong but also vulnerable.
These two were meant to be. They fit together and balance each other in the best way. The way Cowan writes her characters has them feeling like they’re my friends. They’re relatable, real and genuine. Aubrey and Finn were no different, and you can’t help but root for them. Also their communication was so healthy and so nice to see that level of trust between two characters.
The side characters also were so much fun to get to know and I cannot wait for what the rest of this series holds!
Aubrey is good at her job. As a lawyer, she knows how to read the room and fight for the little guy. However, this has not translated to love. She keeps getting set up on duds of dates, with men unsure of what to do about her fierce dependence. When some workplace gossip leaves her needing a boyfriend, she turns to her bestie Finn for some help. Finn is a top pitcher for the Vancouver Havoc, but also has been Aubrey’s best friend since childhood. Giving advice to her for dating sounds easy enough. However, when he starts to see Aubrey in a different way, he wonders if he may have been the perfect one for Aubrey all along.
I loved Aubrey. She is truly a strong woman with a strong personality. She knows what she wants in all aspects of her life and goes for it. She is a true powerhouse, and I loved her finding a man who let her shine. And that is Finn. He sees her value and lets her truly shine. The connection between the two of them felt so real and natural. He was so supportive of Aubrey in all aspects of her life, cheering her on in everything she works to achieve. I love how he knew where she neglected herself and naturally filled in by bringing her food or to take a break.
With the Vancouver Havoc, we got introduced to a lot of the team as well, and I am excited to see where all their stories go! I even saw some tension between characters and can’t wait to see how that plays out!
This was the start of what is sure to be a fantastic series! I cannot wait to see what’s next in the Vancouver Havoc universe! If you love a best friends to lovers story, where the baseball playing characters give spotlight to their friend, this is perfect for you! Thank you to the author for a copy of this book. All opinions are 100% mine.
This would easily be a 5-star read for me if it had been a little longer—I just wanted more lovey-dovey Finn and Bree!
As someone whose own relationship went from best friends of 10 years to lovers (now 13 years together), this is always my favourite trope. Finn is such a supportive sweetheart, and I instantly knew he was going to be a top-tier book boyfriend!
Aubrey is such a strong, independent, take-no-nonsense powerhouse of a woman, and I loved that about her. But I also really appreciated seeing her more vulnerable side, which I think a lot of women can relate to at some point when they’re single.
I absolutely flew through this book, just waiting for them to finally get together! And when they kissed for the first time—I was so giddy, literally kicking my feet and giggling 🤭😂
And then Chapter 33 happened… 🥵 I don’t know if it was the tension building up to that moment or just how relatable the story felt, but it definitely had me feeling some type of way 😏 It wasn’t anything over the top as far as spicy scenes go, but I loved it! (And apparently my partner did too 🤭)
Overall, it was such an easy, enjoyable read—I just wish it had been a little longer. I would have loved to see more about how they’d navigate Finn being famous and Aubrey being a lawyer, especially with the press and public attention.
I also loved the extended epilogue and the little setups for future books in the series. I’m especially excited for Asher’s story!
Thank you so much for selecting me to receive an ARC of this book. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the series!

I love me a good bestfriends to lovers and this one was no different! I just love seeing the mc’s finally seeing what’s right in front of them all this time. Finn and Aubrey has been best friends since childhood year, Finn is the starting pitcher and Aubrey is partner at a family law firm. These two were just made to be a couple I love them both so much
Aubrey loves being a lawyer she’s really career driven, I honestly love her and her personality is wonderful if I do say so myself loll, I’m glad she realized she doesn’t have to change her personality for a man to like her better cause she’s “bitchy” she deserves it all! And Finn definitely gave it to her
The chemistry and banter with Finn and Aubrey is amazing! I seen their potential from the beginning it was like they were meant to be. Aubrey needs Finn help when it comes to dating so she can find a boyfriend cause a ahole at work that she’s in a relationship.
Finn my guy, he’s such an amazing mmc and definitely an awesome boyfriend! And guess who’s going on that book boyfriend list hehe. I love him and his baseball team their everything and more and I can’t wait for more of them. I just love Finn so much but ofc I do he’s a Hannah mmc
This book was so comforting, I just had such a great time reading it Finn and Aubrey are just soulmates and seeing their love become something more than friends was chef kiss!. This was such a great start to a series it has so much potential and I can’t wait for more!
Thank You So Much for giving me this incredible arc !💐🖤
Hannah Cowan didn’t disappoint in her switch up of the sports genre in romance… Crossed Signals was a good start to her 1st book in baseball romance.
I liked this story! Best friends who have known each other since school is a trope I haven’t read a great deal of, so reading Finn and Aubrey’s story was a great start to this new series.
Aubrey, who’s put corporate life over a social one, finds it hard to connect with men on a more intimate level - primarily being one of few female lawyers who deal with misogynistic men who think they know better. I liked that she admits that it’s hard to date because of her instant critiques; but what I enjoy more is how everything she wants in a man is literally right in front of her on a constant basis.
I absolutely fell head over heels in love with Finn! His support of his friends, especially his teammates made me smile. I loved that he has a close group of friends in his teammates, yet, wants to do all he can to include the one teammate who isn’t too privy of bonding. I love how he remembers every detail into Aubrey’s life. I love that he knows how to calm her when she spirals- I simply love that he is all in for her.
I enjoy the side story for Aubrey, with the custody case and I love the conflict she had - choosing her career or choosing true happiness despite wanting the status of her profession. I enjoyed her snark with that Spencer douche; but what I truly enjoyed was how despite her tough as nails attitude, she showed her vulnerability.
This was a good story and I am anxious to see if Asher gets a story. I want to know more about him.
I was completely pulled into Finn and Aubrey’s story. It easily became one of my favorites from Hannah, and it is the first childhood friends to lovers romance that truly worked for me. I could not put it down.
Aubrey was such a standout character. She is driven, confident, and knows exactly what she wants. I loved how focused she was on her career, and how guarded she was when it came to relationships. It made her growth feel natural, and watching her open her heart was incredibly rewarding.
Finn was everything I want in a love interest. He is kind, attentive, and always in Aubrey’s corner. Even before he fully understands his feelings, the way he treats her says it all. He supports her without hesitation and never makes her feel like she needs to be anything other than herself.
The build up between them was so well done. Their shared history and underlying feelings came through in every scene. It was obvious they belonged together, which made the slow progression even more satisfying once they finally crossed that line.
I really enjoyed their back and forth and the overall dynamic between them. The dating coach and fake dating aspects added a fun twist, especially with Finn being so involved while clearly wanting more.
The team dynamic also added a great sense of warmth to the story. It gave that strong found family feeling that made everything feel more complete.
This story is a perfect reminder of why friends to lovers can be so special. Finn and Aubrey just made sense, and I loved every minute of it. 💕
⚾️ Childhood Friends to Lovers ⚾️ Black Cat FMC ⚾️ Cinnamon Roll MMC ⚾️ Dating Lessons ⚾️ Baseball Romance
I’ve said it once and I’ll say it a thousand times–no one writes a black cat FMC like Hannah Cowan. I didn’t know how badly I needed a baseball series from this woman. This series is going to rip me apart and put me back together again and I’ll say thank you. Did I mention that this is only book one in the Vancouver Havoc series? Also, can Vancouver get a baseball team? That would be a total win for this PNW girlie.
Finn & Aubrey are written in the stars. These best friends know each other better than anyone. So much so that Finn offers to be Aubrey’s dating coach when she’s desperate to find herself a date for her company gala. Finn’s immediate solution is to just take him. They’re best friends and are bound to have a good time together. Too bad Aubrey told her arch nemesis that she had a boyfriend and is determined to show up with someone who fits the bill. If someone is going to find someone good enough for their best friend, it’s going to be Finn. He vows to be her dating coach. But being with someone else isn’t what either of them truly want..
You have to read this book. If you enjoy a friends to lovers story, you’re going to love Crossed Signals by Hannah Cowan. This book could have been twice as long and I would have been here for it.
