Yes, I made a mistake, a really big one, but how long should I have to pay for it?

I mean, come on, being cursed to stay in my shifted form until my fated mate stumbles upon me? I wish there was another way to pay but when you do the crime, I guess you have to do the time.

Until then, I’ll be sitting here, a mustard yellow recliner that’s seen better days, a relic from decades past. My mate is out there, somewhere...I think... I hope.

But with each day that passes, it just doesn’t seem likely.

“A…recliner…shifter. Mav, I love you, but I think you might be a little delulu here. That’s not possible. Katrina reads those books with like werewolves and shit that can shift, but that’s fiction. And not a piece of fucking furniture.”

I mean, it sure sounded like a fun premise and this could possibly turn out a comfort read for some but I found it mostly boring, tbh.

RS McKenzie wrote this book under this pen name and if I’d known I probably wouldn’t have picked it up bc her books rarely work for me.

Oddly, this is not the most bizarre shifter book that I've read! That honour belongs to a sentient desk lamp with a long power cord... 😂😂😂

This was completely nutty but a pretty funny read. Loved all the 70's style references.

I didn't like the constant comparisons between Cade and Mav's ex-boyfriend though. It felt like Walt was the third person in the relationship because he was mentioned so often.

Cade & Mav

So yeah I loved this.

I am no beginner to shifter romance by any means but this was my first Shifter Romance… It did not disappoint.

Cade, a cursed recliner shifter, was cursed for years until he met his mate Mav.

Maverick looking for new furniture after his ex and him split up he finds he is attracted to this recliner.

This was just sweet, low angst and spicy.

I really loved how patient Mav was with Cade reacclimating into the world again after so long.

What can I say… this was good.

Sweet and spicy

Thankful for the arc

I saw a post about this book and it had me intrigued right away. I mean... this has a crazy premise.

But you know what? I think it worked pretty well. It's a sweet book with both MC's being two sweet man in love. I don't know if it has anything to do with my mood at the moment, but I really enjoyed it :)

This was such an enjoyable read! Of course I was curious to see how this recliner shifter romance was gonna spinn out.

I loved the characters, the storyline and everything else. A great palette cleaner for me, after finishing some more heavier stuff. I laughed, swooned and craved cold showers…. I really liked the feels in this one!

4/5✨🌟

* SPOILERS *

I really enjoyed this one. If you’re looking for something that’s funny, cute with all the feels and very low angst wit plenty of spice, I highly recommend this sweet story.

I was so curious to how this story was going to play out and it certainly did not disappoint me at all.

Cade and Maverick were just so perfect for each other. I will say the highlight of the book was when Cade revealed who he truly was or when Mac’s crazy ex came popped back up. God, he was so annoying.

The patience that Maverick had for Cade was so sweet because this was a different time for him. I really loved the found family aspect in this book too.. I really loved Sawyer. He was quite entertaining and I loved how he was there for Maverick.

Such an amazing short read and I hope to get more.

I received a copy of this book and this is my honest review.

Not So Lazy Boy – Stormi Reed

Once upon a time… there was a recliner chair cursed by a witch. For this curse to be broken, fate had to bring his mate to him. 🪄🖤

And that’s how a spicy, fun, and delightfully weird story was born. So glad it exists! 🌶️😈

I had so much fun while reading this book; it was an enjoyable read from beginning to end. The way those magical touches were adapted to the modern day was really lovely. Even though it’s very different and quite short, the meaning it carries and the joy it gives are huge. ✨📚

After reading this book, I might have looked at my chair and said, “no way…” But that’s our little secret. 🤭🛋️

If you’re looking for something short, weird, and very spicy, this book is the perfect little escape. 🌶️📖

I want to thank the author for the Arc Opportunity. It was a an absolutely wonderful experience.
My review will have some spoilers and quotes and if you don't want to know any details please just pass over.

So, I am a huge fan off shifter romances, yet this took this MM shifter romance, blew it out the ballpark. The MMC Cade was cursed to his shifter position for 50 years By Blossom the badass witch. He did something horrible to blossoms fated mated owls and refused to apologize so that was his punishment. The only way to break said curse was cade had to find his mate. There was just one condition for it to be fully broke. Cades mate had to get his man juice on the recliner to officially be free.
Maverick aka Mav the other MMC had a rough start in the book his ex-wade who he had been with a while well that twat goblin cheated and Mav and his friend sawyer walked in on it. Well Mav ended things, lived with sawyer a while then finally got his own place which started his fate to find cade.
Sawyer Mav's Bff and Mav went to look for furniture for his apartment and seen blossoms garage sale. He smelled a coffee and book smell and found cade in a mustard yellow recliner form. Before he even knew the recliner was cade.
Things move quickly once Mav released cade they fell head over heel for each other. Mav was so patient, kind, and understanding with cade and it was so sweet. Once thing progressed and time went by cade went to apologize to blossom.
She accepted his apology as well as buttons and stormy forgave him as well. Blossom also gave cade his fresh start.
(I will say I will never look at Bacon wrapped asparagus, or olive oil the same again I will forever think of cade and Mav. Oh, and I am glad cade through wade's ass end first over the balcony he deserved that and more for the mess he put Mav through. Twat goblin was worried more about the couch then Maverick.)
I love how this ended it was so beautiful. Maverick got his dream job. Cade went back to school and was going to go into gaming something he loved. Then Maverick gave cade the dream he always wanted a trip to Guam and an Atari. I was fell in love with this book and cannot wait for another furniture shifter book. I am forever hooked on them.

Such a nice read, it was my first furniture shifter and I enjoyed it very much.
Cade is a recliner shifter who did a very bad thing when he was in his mid twenties and, because of it, a witch, Blossom, decided to teach him a lesson and trapped him in his shifter form for over 50 years.
He finally has the opportunity to break free from the spell when Maverick, a baker who just broke up with his boyfriend, buys the recliner from Blossom: Mav is instantly attracted to the chair, it smells like his favourite things, coffee and books and it's also very comfortable.
So comfortable and with a very sexy smell that Mav can't resist and pleasures himself on it.
When his seed makes contact with the recliner, the spell is broken: in place of the mustard yellow chair, Mav finds himself face to face with a handsome man.

It will take a little convincing and also a bit of magic to make Maverick believe that Cade is real, that he is a shifter and, more importantly, that they're fated mates.

The physical scenes are intense: the bond between them, even if it's not been sealed yet, is strong and put them very close, both physically and emotionally.

What prevented me from giving a higher rate:
I found very interesting the part about Cade's struggles with living in a world he knows nothing about and I would have liked to have more of that (like the scene at the coffee shop).
I also found fascinating the different ways with which shifters' bodies work and have intimacy, but the author just hints at them without explaining more.

The side characters, Sawyer and Blossom, are amazing and very supportive of both Cade and Maverick.

Definitely a lovely read, I recommend it!

“I’m your recliner. And you’re my mate.”

With a wacky premise like that I knew I had to pick this up. I’ve fallen down the rabbit hole of sentient objects a while ago, but furniture shifters is new.

“Show me what it’s like to fuck a recliner.”

I guess even with a stupid plot I had some expectations, because this wasn’t as satisfying as I was hoping. I wanted crazy shifted furniture sex, more embarrassing incidents of Mav not knowing his recliner is a shifter, I wanted to be dying of laughter because the dude is a fucking recliner looking for a mate?! A mustard yellow recliner from the 70s? How did this become so meh?

The writing style wasn’t doing it for me. Too much useless dialogue, all tell no show, AND they skipped the half-shifted sex. Like, that was the most fun part of them all and your just gonna skip over it?? How dare you, I’m offended. Without the chair element, it’s just normal sex with a hot dude, and I can get that anywhere.

But seriously (not really, it’s a book about a chair shifter how serious can I really be), this could’ve been a wild read, but the insta romance and the bland writing style made it seem like any other generic shifter romance. Points for the fun idea, but the execution didn’t give it justice.

Who would have thought a piece of furniture would turn out to be the love of my life?

I have to say that when I saw Stormi teasing this book I was a little skeptical.. I mean a book about a recliner shifter? I wasn't sure how that was going to come together but I knew I had to read it regardless of being skeptical.

I had no reason to be skeptical, it was amazing! Albeit a little odd, but the characters themselves were great and I loved how unique this story is! I have never read a book anything like this one before and I adore how Stormi just went with their creativity and created something special and unique.

While Cade spend the beginning of this book in his shifter form, we get an insight look into his perspective as this book has Dual POV's! Which I really think came in handy in this story because we got to see what both of these characters were thinking/feeling. That not only helped understand the characters better but it also helped provide an extra depth to the story seeing both of these men falling in love with each other in different ways.

I really liked how Maverick is a pastry chef, I have always loved reading about characters who are bakers/pastry chefs, and the aspect was written so well!! Plus, I also adored how Cade was so determined to learn and catch up on the world he has had to miss out on all those years. He's absolutely precious!

All in all, I really enjoyed reading this! The writing was great, the storytelling component flowed smoothly, the characters were all fantastic, well, except Walt of course. And it was just a fun book to read. My only reason for not giving this 5 stars is because I didn't love all the spicy scenes but that is absolutely a personal preference for me, and not at all a bad thing for others.

I loved this book! I’ve never heard of a couch shifter before and now I need more😆 I need more furniture shifters if they’re gonna be this hot.

Cade was cursed to remain in his shifter form for 50 years for being a jerk. Though it sounds like a harsh punishment, he did deserve it for what he did. His actions could have had deadly consequences if the party involved wouldn’t have found each other.

He was the perfect example of peer pressure and hanging out with the wrong crowd to try to fit in. He had plenty of time to think about his mistake and come to the realization of how wrong he was.

In order to break the curse he had to find his fated mate. Kind of difficult considering he was a couch and couldn’t exactly go on dates😅

Lucky for him, he meets Maverick when he was put out on a yard sale.

Maverick was on the hunt for used furniture after his ex cheated on him and he had to leave his place. Maverick couldn’t afford anything new and a yard sale was exactly what he needed.

However, Maverick had never had a pull to furniture nor get aroused by it the way he did for Cade as a couch. Let’s just say things got hard for him while shopping🤭

It was quite funny to see him struggling with his situation. Cade’s pheromones were just too enticing for Maverick to control himself.

His reaction to Cade’s human was hilarious. Loved that whole scene, especially the consent part. Cade being from the 70s, his views were very different then to how things are now.

Loved them together. Maverick needed someone to really loved him the way he deserved and Cade needed someone to love and dote on.

This was super short and sweet. Yes, Cade had to suffer being stuck as a couch, but it was all meant to be so he could be with Maverick. He needed to wait for his fated mate to be born 😏

This has to be one of the funniest things I’ve ever read. Because what do you mean a recliner has feelings?? I’m genuinely looking at my couch differently now.

Marv feeling this intense pull toward a recliner and talking to it like it was completely normal had me questioning everything. He thought he was losing it. I thought he was losing it. We were all confused together and it was hilarious.

When the recliner turned into a Cade? Adorable. So unexpectedly cute. The whole concept was chaotic in the best way.I mean he needed Marv's seed for that to work so chaotic 😂

I loved Marv and Sawyer’s friendship. I’m not a fan of romance that sidelines friendships, so seeing Mavrik genuinely want Cade and Sawyer to get along felt important. Cade showing up at his workplace to understand his world? Sweet. Watching them learn each other’s habits and quirks? Even sweeter.

Blossom though? I loved her. It was honestly beautiful to see her forgive Cade.. forgiveness is not something I personally hand out easily, so watching that growth was refreshing. And the way Blossom was described, Total badass energy. If she ever gets her own book, I’m reading it immediately.

My only real issue was the ex. I did not need to hear about the ex for the entire book. I understand heartbreak and comparison, but even during intimate moments Marv was mentally comparing Cade to his ex. It became exhausting. And the ex reappearing later felt unnecessary, the story worked without that added drama.

Overall, this was chaotic, ridiculous, lighthearted fun. Completely unserious in the best way and genuinely hilarious.

Not So Lazy Boy is the first book in Stormi Reed’s Shift or Not series. Here’s what you can expect from Maverick and Cade:

Ensure you review the content and trigger warnings to decide if this book is right for you. Note this book contains cheating and some minor violence. Please take care of yourself while reading.

Although I don’t reach for them as often as I’d like, I love a shifter romance. But I can confidently say this is the first time I’ve ever read about a recliner shifter. And you know what? I had a fantastic time. At 145 pages this was a shorter read, and it was relatively low angst so it would be the perfect escape from a heavier TBR. Maverick and Cade were absolutely adorable, and I was rooting for them from the very start. I thought this was a very cool concept, and I’m always a fan of authors putting their own creative spins on shifter romances. Despite the fated mate aspect, I enjoyed how Cade and Maverick’s relationship developed. Cade had to relearn how to exist as a human in this decade, and Maverick’s patience and support was just beautiful. In turn, Cade was so earnest and Maverick’s fiercest protector. The spice and tension in this book was delicious. I had a lot of fun with this one, so don’t let the slightly outside the box concept scare you away. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this series.

MY THOUGHTS
I'm somewhere between "Hey, that was kinda fun!" and "What tf did I just read?" Overall, the writing is funny, and you get a pretty clear impression of both MCs for a novella. They are fated mates, so that accelerates the story as well, as they are immediately into each other, much to the detriment of the upholstery (sort of). Other than our MCs finding one another, not much else happens.

BOTTOM LINE
I mean, why not? If you haven't read sentient romance, try something new. And if you have, this is a quick, low-angst read.

Independent reviewer for GRR, I was gifted my copy of this book.

Here's the thing. Just when I think I've read the weirdest idea of a book and loved it, something new comes along and knocks it out the park! I mean, I thought potatoes and rhubarb were the weirdest shifters, but now??

Furniture!!

Cade is trapped in his shifted form, after he crossed a witch. He's been like that for 50 years, he just needs his mate to appear to be free. Maverick is that mate. He buys Cade's mustard yellow recliner form, because it smeels delicious.

What I loved most about this, was how little angst between the two there was. Cade has had 50 years to come to terms that he was out of order separating a mated pair, and he knows he needs to apologise to the witch. He also knows that Maverick needs time to get used to the idea of having a mate who shifts into furniture (still can't believe I'm typing that sentence!)

And! It's first person, present tense! So did NOT spot that til I was filing. Well played!

It's steamy, and emotional and really a fun FUN read, that hit the stop I needed after reading a long book that really did not hit any spots and I was a bit bummed by that. This book lifted my spirits, made me laugh and I need more of this author and this series, please and thank you!

5 fun, weird, just what I needed stars

Ok, furniture shifters. I never thought I'd say that, let alone read about one but Stormi Reed has made a convert out of me. What could have been a very cheesy, over-the-top story is actually a really sweet romance and a very interesting tale about a genre of shifters that I've never even imagined before. The entire "furniture shifter" idea is handled quite well, and made as plausible as a wolf shifter or any of animal shifter. And we all handle those ok. The author gives us a nice backstory without overly focusing on the drama of how Cade ended up being cursed in his shifted form, and I really appreciated how he struggled with being in a new era of technology. It made him feel that much more believable. Maverick is a total sweetheart and how he rolls with the giant punch life hands him is quite admirable. The two together are the epitome of sweet romance and it's a total feel-good story through and through! I tend to generate towards Stormi's alter ego's darker romances and this was a pure breath of fresh air from that genre. I'm really looking forward to what other unique shifters they come up with and I can 100% recommend this one right here. Just amazingly good and absolutely one-of-kind! 5/5*

“Show me what it’s like to fuck a recliner.”
We were robbed of this scene lmao, why didn’t the author include that?

This was….. interesting. I’ve read alot of weird shit before but furniture shifters is a new for me. Honestly, I really liked it. The only thing bugging me was the constant mention of his ex, Walt. Forget that dude already, he was a big ol ahole. Even their 1 year later epilogue he got mentioned, and the loss of his favorite couch.

Cade is cursed for 50 years to stay in his recliner form by a witch that he wronged. Don’t mess with animals, I highly agree. But to curse the poor dude for that long? Damn. Anyways, it’s like insta love/lust when Maverick is moving from yard sale to yard sale and sees this old mustard yellow recliner. There’s an instant connection he can’t explain.

Anyway, it’s a fun and cute read for when you need something different. The MMC’s are lovable.

“Every part of him is amazing. Hell, he shifted from a person to a recliner, back again. Him being able to lay eggs is just one more amazing thing he can do.”
Well I don’t know about that buddy, but you do you. I don’t want egg babies.

A CUTE AND COZY COMFORT READ!💕💺

Look I’m not one to read shifter books but the premise intrigued me and I was not disappointed at all by this author whose books I have read before now both pen names!

“Better luck next time. Just find your mate and you’re free of me.”

A curse that lasted for 50 years until it was broken by a fated mate however the fated mate must like and appreciate the old ugly mustard yellow recliner by gifting it the seed of life…

Maverick and his shifter recliner Cade was just so sweet and comfy like a long awaited hug, both were touch starved and sex starved so they made up for it in spades!

Maverick was so patient with Cade learning to adjust to the new to him half century lifestyle and gadgets, it was so sweet and endearing…

I loved Blossom and the 50 year lesson she incurred to an obnoxious, rebelling peer pressured 25 year old Cade and the effect she had on Maverick- too precious!

Sawyer was a great supporting best friend together with his fiancée Katrina…

Walter the cheating ex was like an irritating fly that buzzed around in Mav’s head until Cade swatted him away…

A sweet epilogue one year later follows with more endearing moments!

I voluntarily received an ARC from GRR for an honest non biased review.

This is the story of Maverick and Cade. Maverick has just walked in on his boyfriend having sex with another man. Doing the smart thing, he leaves and finds another place to stay. Now he just has to find furniture. So he and his bestie Sawyer hit all the yard sales looking for deals. At one place, he is drawn to a mustard yellow recliner that is pretty beat up. It is so comfortable and fits into his home perfectly. Cade's shifted form is that of a recliner. When he crossed a witch she trapped him in his shifter form to learn a lesson. So for fifty years he has been hoping to attract his fated mate. That is the only way for him to break the curse. Luckily for him, his fated mate just brought him home. This is their story. I received a complementary advanced review copy of this book from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review. I loved how sweet and thoughtful Mav was. Cade didn't really resonate with me. I found his belief that he deserved his punishment being stated time and again to began to get irritating for me. The book is easy to read but it didn't really hold my attention. I found the idea of the book more intriguing than the actual story. I did enjoy all the reference to the 1970's.

Furniture shifters were not on my bingo card for 2026 but I’m so glad this book showed up in my life! What a sweet, funny, and not overly complicated read. The very idea of a recliner shifter whose instincts drive him to bring his mate comfort by providing a cozy spot to rest is honestly so unique and heartwarming. It’s fated mates so of course it’s insta-love which I quite enjoy, but surprisingly the thing I enjoyed most was watching Cade adjust to the world after spending 50 years as a chair. It gave the relationship a really interesting dynamic that brought a lot of substance to the story.

My one complaint is that we were teased with the idea of a spicy scene where Cade is partially shifted, and when it gets to that it takes place off page! The type of people who will be drawn to this book will almost certainly want to see that in explicit detail! Overall it was captivating, whimsical, and even a bit emotional. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs a quick, unique, thoughtful, and silly read. (For best experience, I recommend reading it while sitting in a recliner.)

My review
🌕🌕🌗
This is ridiculous, funny, but ridiculous. Light hearted comedy, taking the whole shifter deal and mates 5 steps too far, but it made me laugh. Furniture shifters... yes, furniture shifters exist, and can have babies, apparently, they are more like birds than furniture in that aspect. Maybe snails, since anyone can get "pregnant"? My favorite character is Blossom, hands down. She is magnificent, and such an incredible and forgiving character! Knowing what I know, if someone had done what Cade did to one of my family members, he wouldn't have gotten away with such easy consequences. Yes, it is great, he is a great guy (eventually), and she is amazing for forgiving him, I give her that. The rest of the story is just silly, but amusing. Worth a read, good to pass the time, and the fact that furniture has feelings, well... I am looking at my desk a little bit differently now, and I am going to be using a lot more coasters, I do not want to offend my furniture! Fun and light read, cute story, with a HEA for all involved. I recommend it for a good chuckle.

I went into this wildly curious about how a recliner shifter romance would possibly work… and somehow, it absolutely does.

The premise is bonkers in the best way: a character cursed to remain in his shifted form as a slightly battered mustard-yellow recliner until his fated mate finds him. It sounds outrageous, but the execution leans into both the humour and the longing. Beneath the absurdity is a surprisingly sweet, patient story about regret, hope and waiting for someone who might never come.

What really made it work for me was the balance of tone. It’s genuinely funny, there were moments that had me grinning at the sheer ridiculousness of it all, but there’s also a thread of vulnerability running underneath. The yearning feels real, which makes the eventual romance all the more satisfying.

This was the perfect palate cleanser: light, playful, a little bit steamy, and full of heart. If you enjoy paranormal romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously but still delivers on emotion, this is a delight.

3.5 because I skimmed

These two were actually so cute together. I have read my fair share of shifter romances but I tend to go towards wolves or bears , once or twice a dragon but that’s it. Never have I read something so bizarre as a recliner shifter. I loved both of the characters. There were so sweet together. I just couldn’t give it five stars because the amount of talk about sexual past. It was so annoying. Cade (the recliner) seemed to be a manwhore back in his day and I didn’t need to hear about it and Maverick constantly spoke and thought about his sex life with his ex. It was so frustrating. He kept comparing the two even while he was having sex with Cade which I found so annoying. Maybe if he hadn’t it would have been more stars. The part with the ex coming back was so over dramatized and not needed at all. No true OP drama and they only wanted each other. Pretty insta love since they were fated mates.

Cade did a bad thing and he was given a long time, stuck in his shift as a recliner, to think about what he did and why it was wrong. He was frustrated that he would not be able to break the curse that kept him inanimate until he found his mate. He suffers through a long period of solitude, except the occasional garage sale, when Blossom - the witch who cursed him - would sit him among the offerings. That is where he encounters Mav, who is fresh off a terrible break up and needs to find furniture. Turns out Mav is his mate, although Mav does not know it, and Mav purchases the Recliner/Cade. This story was so neat. The way they come together, the life lessons that both Mav and Cade learn, the way they grow together as a couple while Cade is learning to live in a world that is many years past the time when he was cursed. Lovely, hopeful and different. I would read more of this author.

I received a ARC of this book for free for my honest opinion.

Ok so this was an extremely cute short story about a furniture shifter and his human fated mate.

Cade, a recliner, was cursed by a witch to remain in his furniture form till he finds his fated mate.

Maverick dumps his cheating boyfriend and moves out and he needs furniture for his new apartment.

This has some spice in it but it’s just a cute story with low angst, found friends, acceptance of the weird, self reflection, finding your one true love, and a nice middle finger to those deserving.

This universe has:

Fated mates
Pheromones
Mpreg (not in this story though)
Egg layer (also not in this story)
Animal shifters
Inanimate object shifters
Sort of an age gap
A witches curse
Intense sexual attraction
Lots of sexy times
Good friends
