Tim Burton’s Sleepy Hollow (1999) continues in Return to Sleepy Hollow! Death hangs over Ichabod’s and Katrina’s heads as they race to put a stop to the suspicious fatalities befalling the residents of Sleepy Hollow. Their investigation turns to the townsfolk, and– everyone is a suspect—from the widowers of the deceased to the local apothecary owner. But the pair dig up nothing but dead ends until a possessed gardener leads them to… The Tree of the Dead! The cursed ground where Lady Van Tassel resurrected the malevolent Headless Horseman, and the very same place spirits have been showing Lotte over and over again in her visions. It seems the tree is the root of Sleepy Hollow’s problems, but it may also hold the answers Ichabod and Katrina seek.

Return to Sleepy Hollow #3 offers a decent continuation of the story, even if it doesn’t quite deliver the momentum you might hope for at this stage. The creative team keeps the Burton‑esque mood alive—misty woods, creeping dread, and that familiar sense that something is always watching from just beyond the treeline.
The investigation into Sleepy Hollow’s rising death toll feels a bit slow this round. Ichabod and Katrina move from suspect to suspect without uncovering much, making the issue feel more like connective tissue than a major turning point. Still, the possessed gardener sequence injects some much‑needed energy and finally pushes the story toward the Tree of the Dead—a highlight that taps directly into the film’s iconic imagery.
Lotte’s visions continue to weave in supernatural tension, though they don’t fully land with the emotional weight they’re aiming for.
Overall, it’s an okay chapter—atmospheric, steady, and clearly building toward something bigger. Not the strongest issue, but enough intrigue to keep me looking forward to what comes next.
