Well, it looks like I’m throwing in the towel on 2025 reads the same way I started it… with a two-star review.

I loved the idea of this book when it was gifted to me. A cozy “section-a-day” Advent reading treat sounded adorable. Instead, it turned into a daily chore. I ended up speeding through the entries because they felt like the same scene copy pasted with minor edits. I thought I would enjoy a good time loop story, but this one never hooked me. The writing didn’t quite sparkle, and every character somehow managed to annoy me… except the cat. The cat can stay.

Also, if I never read “fa la la la” in fiction ever again, that would be a Christmas miracle.

So with this festive flop, I’m tapping out for a few days and hoping 2026 starts with a bang.

And most importantly, to all the brave, furry little friends who carried far too many books this year: thank you for your service. You deserve treats and naps.

I see a lot of people are really disappointed by this book, and I think the reason I'm not one of them is because I didn't go in with a lot of expectations. I loved the idea of this advent calendar, and went in expecting a cheesy hallmark-esque romance - and that's exactly what I got.

I don't think I'll ever try another advent type of book again (once I finish the other one I'm reading). There really is nothing to them except for the gimmick of it. Sure it's fun and exciting at first to rip open the sections one day at a time but it quickly got tedious.

The plot revolved around a time loop mechanic which made the same day happen for far too many times! There were very minor differences for the most part in each day and it was so tiring to read. Especially when nothing really happened, the main characters have no chemistry with each other, and this book is far too long with the thinnest of plots.

It's very Christmas-y I'll give it that. Some chapters and scenes were very sweet and wholesome. So if you wanted a no-drama and super fluffy Hallmark-type experience in book form this is definitely for you.

I recorded each section I read and my thoughts for each day in the reading history if you were curious.

I was so excited about this book and loved the idea of an advent calendar. However…. The writing was terrible and I felt like there was no character development. It was like reading the same 20 pages over and over again . Didn’t even finish.

Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Spice: 🫑
The FMC Annie finds herself stuck on Christmas eve and has to repeat the day over and over. She meets a cute security guard Braden who she starts to fall for but he doesn't know they are stuck in a time loop so each day she repeats is not repeated for him. Annie also starts to meet her neighbours in her building as she repeats the day so we get to meet some new characters as well throughout. Annie starts discovering that there are some things that dont reset every day and eventually knows what she has to do to get out of the time loop and see Braden again when time finally continues.
It was a cute story and I knew going into it that it was about repeating Christmas eve so you can expect some repetition in the story as well but the author still finds a good way to make it a little different each day too. Overall it had a nice Christmas vibe with cute Characters and story that is nice to read on cold winter nights. ☃️🎄🎁

The concept of this being a book advent calendar was so fun.

It was a cute Christmassy rom-com, which I timed to finish on Christmas Eve, since there was only 12 advent days. Annie + Braden breaking out of their time loop after experiencing Christmas Eve day after day (which, to me wouldn’t be a bad thing, honestly) was predictable, and the HEA was the perfect holiday touch.

This reminded me a lot of a girly version of Groundhog Day and the holiday vibes were perfect!

This book was a super sweet cheesy, hallmark like Christmas love story, which is exactly what I was looking forward to this time of year. I enjoyed the story and the characters are fun. I would have liked a bit more from Braden’s point of view but it was a fun read.

This is my second advent book of the season and I want to talk about the mechanics of the book. I liked how the sections were sealed, it was very easy and clean to rip the sticker without ripping the book or the pages. I liked that all the pages were not needing to be separated individually.
Each section is a day in Annie’s life and I am hit or miss about this. Knowing the next section is the next day is cool and a logical stopping point. My only critique is by doing that and not just a chapter some of the sections can be long and hard for someone with limited time to read in a day. The other thing is if the sections were smaller it could have been a whole 24 day advent instead of just 12.

Overall I liked the story and how cleanly the pages unsealed.

3.5

I loved this book! The only reason I gave it a 3.5 is because the formatting of the book. At the start it kind of just throws you into the book without any context, at the start I reread the first couple pages many times just to make sure I didn’t miss anything. I in-fact did not miss anything it’s just there actually wasn’t really any context. Another thing that confused me was when people were talking, when characters would talk to each-other it would kind of jump all over the place so it was hard to understand who was saying what. But it did get better near the end. Something that I felt in the last couple of chapters when she finally broke free of the time loop was that the story slowed down. It was a little harder to read but at the last chapter it sped up, but it then it was too fast. Kind of like the last chapter was rushed. But overall this is such an adorable book and I love the storyline! It was one of those good romance books where you have to set the book down and take a breather!!!! I do really recommend this book.💗💗💗

I loved not only the concept of an advent book but I also liked the idea of this “Groundhog Day” Christmas Eve - those 2 things were mostly where my 3 stars came from. The actual writing just felt very “surface level,” which I totally understand because after all, this is a Christmas romance. Annie’s character came across so pure and old school that I just kept picturing Judy Garland as Dorothy for Annie! I also don’t know if others had also mentioned this but there were a couple of chapters where Braden was called Brandon - when it first happened, I thought a new character had entered the scene and had to keep reading and then finally realized it was an error. Overall, a cute Christmas story but could be great if the writing was modernized a bit and there was a bit more character development but scaling back in length.

The first time I took a booktok recommendation & I was disappointed to say the least...1. There wasn't an advent calendar in the book (like the back of the cover said) which was my whole appeal to the story with the concept being so unique & fun 2. It was 417 and could have been written in 217.

It was a cute story with a sweet message but I was itching to be done with it ... not because it was good but because I'm not a quitter and refuse to stop mastery. I kept waiting for character development that never happened.

Romance books aren't usually my thing but I do enjoy most of them. Unfortunately, this book was a huge let down.

The concept with Annie connecting with her neighbors and finding love to fill the gap that the passing of her parents left her was warm but the story itself felt very redundant to me.

First book of 2026 left me 💔 & itching to open an enticing story 📚

I wanted to read this as an advent calendar but I just couldn’t get into it. Over Christmas holidays I was determined to finish it and pushed through the first through advent sections. I did begin to enjoy it, about 1/4 of the way in and quickly finished it. I loved the advent idea and opening each section. I will look for another book in this style next year but didn’t love this story. Honestly time travel and time loops are not my thing and make me leave a book. I only stuck this out because it was bought for me and I liked the idea.

I was really excited to read this because I like time loop stories, and add a Christmas story on top of that, I was sold. However, this story was far too repetitive for my liking. Yeah, things changed up a bit each time, but the kind of repetitive where the main character was repeating themselves in dialogue and stuff even though it was content unnecessary because she was aware of the change. And because of this kind of stuff, I got bored. I was also unsure of why some people were kind of aware of it? It just wasn't what I wanted or was expecting.

The whole concept of an advent story was super fun! I really enjoyed reading a section each night. It's something I looked forward to each day❣️ The story was sort of a Groundhog Day themed tale. The main character, Annie is caught in a Christmas Eve time loop. She works at a department store and is the visual director. She had 12 days to create the perfect store window Christmas display. Through the process, she makes new friends, saves her job, and finds love❣️

I read this as an advent read, but split the book up for 25 days instead of 12 - so I read 1 or 2 chapters a day, not the sections highlighted in the book.

It was a cute & adorable Christmas read, but I was glad I split the book up into smaller chunks as it fit into my life better during the mayhem & build-up to Christmas.

It follows Annie a window dresser & Braden a security officer, both work at the family department store of Lawson's. They have a chance meeting & with a little Santa intervention start on a Ground Hog day vibe journey of Christmas Eve.

I did enjoy the daily reads of this book, it made me laugh & definitely gives the Christmas feels.

I loved the idea of repeating Christmas Eve over and over, and the advent part of it. It was new and exciting. Plus I liked that it didn’t have spice in it but didn’t feel like a it was about teenager. A lot of young adult romances can feel like that. Also that they made Santa a big part of it, I don’t really believe but I’ve always loved in the thought of Santa.

A cute little story. The part I enjoyed most was the advent idea. I read it over the 12 days of Christmas.

Usually I don’t like the idea of a time loop because it just seems like the same thing over and over, but I actually really enjoyed those one. It was a cute easy read.

The idea of an advent calendar book is super fun but I did not read it like one lol I was too busy with exams so I just read it like a normal book. It was repetitive at times but was a cute story. Glad I’m done it so I can start reading ON MY NEW KINDLE😛😛😛😛
