Annie Graceland Mystery #5

Cupcakes, Diaries, and Rotten Inquiries

Rate this book
Annie Graceland's a thirty-something-year-old baker with a pinch of psychic ability. She's empathic—she can feel other people's lusts and desires in her own body. No biggie if she experiences someone else's cravings for dark chocolate or a foot massage. But Annie's recently acquired a spookier skill—she can see and talk to ghosts. And much to her dismay, they also talk to her—nagging her incessantly to solve their murders.

Annie’s former college boyfriend, Mack ‘The Man’ McManus asks to ‘friend’ her on Facebook. Should she accept his request? She’s getting divorced and is happily dating a hot guy—Detective Raphael Campillio. But it’s been years and Mack doesn’t even live in the same town. What could possibly go wrong? She says yes...

Unfortunately, Mack has NO boundaries. He stalks her on FB, sending her photos and non-stop messages. He shows up unexpectedly at her work—he’s in town for a Used Car Convention, and expects her to show him the town, re-kindle their romance—and he won’t take no for an answer!

When Mack is murdered in a manner fitting his profession, his befuddled ghost materializes at Annie’s apartment and won't leave her side. It’s up to Annie, her BFFs Grady and Julia, and her arch nemesis—the ghost of Dr. Derrick Fuller to solve Mack’s murder, and send him to the light before her Annie’s mother arrives in town for Thanksgiving.

Cupcakes, Diaries, and Rotten Inquiries is written in a Dear Diary ‘Bridget Jones’ style, as the characters reveal their private thoughts, hopes, dreams, and naughty desires.

Will Annie and her friends solve the crime before she loses what little remains of her sanity?

I wrote it, I love it. But of course, yes?

I branched out a little with Diaries and played with a "Bridget Jones Diary" format. Every chapter is written in a "Dear Diary" format. You can get inside the heads of the characters and have some fun with how everyone perceives the situations just a little differently.

I had a blast writing this book, and I hope you all enjoy reading it.

I think this one is the best yet, but Hot Guys is still in the running. I wasn't sure what to expect of the diary format but Pamela DuMond really made it work! The story still flowed through the format, and I felt like I got a better feel for each of the characters since they really had a chance to speak for themselves. I have to admit a couple of times I had to stop an look more closely to remember who was writing but in addition to the chapter labels, there are enough reminders of whose perspective we are seeing that it just took a second to catch up. For me to only get lost a couple of times says good things about how clear it was who was writing. We don't see as much of Raphael as I would like but his presence in reality or thought was SO special each time. Awww. I love Annie and get more attached to her friends with every book. While as always in a cozy the resolution of the murder was fortuitous, Ms. DuMond appropriately led us to it rather than letting Annie just trip over the murderer. Well done Pamela DuMond.

Facebook friending can be problematic but Annie never expected her college ex to start stalking her on FB once she decided to accept his friend request. And she really didn't expect him to show up at her place of work. Or in her appartment, dead! Once again, the only way she can get rid of his obnoxious ghost is to solve his murder, so she pulls in not only her friends but a certain dead guy in a silver lame thong. No not cupid.

End of another fast read series. Very witty and amusing characters and actually quite different from the usual run of heroes and heroines in cosies.

Dear Diary, Just Read an Awesome Book!

While this book is listed as #6 in the Annie Graceland series, I think it is actually book #5 (although it doesn't really matter, except to say they are all worth reading!) This book is written from many different points of view through diary entries. As the book description states Annie is empathic & can see ghosts. This time she is "haunted" by her former college boyfriend, Mack "The Man" McManus who talks about himself in third person. She also continues to be haunted by the ghost of Dr. Derrick Fuller (who is seen by her in a silver Puccini thong!) Stir in humor, murder, romance, & a different style of story telling & you have a very enjoyable, worth the time & money book. If you haven't read the other 4 books do yourself a favor & read those first! Also, there are some pretty delicious sounding recipes that appear worth trying. ******SPOILER******* really loved Annie's mom's diary entry at the end. Sentimental, sweet, & so true!

This is a funny, witty cozy mystery. This story even involves ghosts. I particularly liked that part. Some of the ghosts are hilarious (such as the DR wearing a silver thong). Annie is both a baker and a psychic. It also helps when Annie's boyfriend is a detective. The author, Pamela DuMond did a good job writing this story. It has a cleverly written plot and story line. Even the diary has a part in this book. The narrator, Kelly Self did an OK job, but needs a bit more practice to sound natural. Some of the lines sounded forced. All in all though, the funny , witty parts are what I remember most when I read this book.

I won this audiobook in a Spring Fling contest.

I gave this to my oldest daughter to read and she, well lets say LOVED IT! She gave it to her sister to read and ask me to get her all of the other books that Pamela DuMond has written. With that I would have to say that Ms. DuMond has a couple of new fans in my girls. I won this great book on GoodReads.

Cupcakes, Diaries and Rotten Inquiries by Pamela DuMond is the 5th book in the Annie Graceland Mystery series. Empath and Ghost whisperer Annie Graceland meets up with an old boyfriend only to have him killed at a used car convention with his ghost needing assistance to find his killer. This book was written in diary format from the various characters and seemed more enjoyable. The characters seemed less silly than previously. The best of the series so far.

I have enjoyed all of the Annie Graceland mysteries thus far and this one was no different. The diary format was different and sometimes I had to scroll back a few pages to see whose diary I was reading but it was still fun. I laughed out loud many times especially when Dr Derrick was involved in a scene. Overall, this is a fun, cozy mystery that I would recommend. On to the next one....

Amazingly fun read!

What's not to love about a fun and quirky group of characters, who are filled with humor and heart. At first I had difficulty getting used to the diary format, but I soon found it worked. Can't get enough of this series.

Good

I love this series, however this one was slightly different, I found it a bit confusing that it didn't seem to follow on from the previous book. But I still enjoyed it. Xxxx
