He was the Chief Inspector of Ancient Monuments at Historic Scotland and responsible for the nomination of the Antonine Wall as a World Heritage Site.

Good but somewhat old fashioned history of northern Roman Britain, the book is thirty years old. Why were academics terrified to speculate beyond proved facts.
