They say your first love is the hardest to get over… After years of hard work putting his heart and life back together after being dumped by his first love, the last thing Christopher Langley expected, was to walk into her successful party planning business with his new fiancé on his arm. Some feelings never die, no matter how much they should… Melanie Houston had always known what she wanted from life, it just turned out that the gorgeous and sweet Chris wasn’t to be had. Against her own will she was forced to leave him years ago, and now he walks right back into her life. Suddenly years of hurt, rejection, unanswered questions and desire come flooding back and it is all they can do to stem the tides that threaten to overtake them and their chances of new found happiness.
I was expecting a little more from this book. I liked Chris and I understood his religious beliefs. The ending could have been a little better and more thought out. Samantha and his mother needed to have been told off because their behaviors was unacceptable. I understood Melanie thought she was doing what was right for Chris but if a person had that kind of love they experienced then I would be fighting like hell to be with him. I felt she was selfish and did not even consider his feelings when it came to the decisions that involved him. All and all not a bad read.
I am such a sucker for a sappy romance. You know the kind where the breakup was predicated on a misunderstanding and/or someone interfering to break up the couple? Yeah, this is one of those.
Melanie and Chris met in college (University of Maryland. DMV stand up!) and were deeply in love. I liked these two because Melanie was slightly older and more “experienced” and Chris was the virgin Catholic whose religious morals kept his virtue in tact. But once Melanie put the strokey-doke on him, he was like damn a religion lmao. Ol boy declared himself and Melanie “spiritually” wed and even gave her a ring as a symbol of their union then gave her the magic stick.
Fast-forward some years later because there was no segue-way in the story, Melanie and Chris have apparently broken up and moved on with their lives. I was literally like WTF? One chapter they were pledging their love, and the next they weren’t even together. Chris is engaged to some other chick, and Melanie is running her own catering company. They reconnect by chance when Chris and Samantha, his fiancé, come to Mel’s shop to plan her parents’ anniversary party. And wouldn’t you know, when these two see each other again for the first time in years, the spark, the magic, and the feelings are still there. Oh snaaaaap! You know some ish bout to go down!
These two lost lovers continuously flirted with each other on the low, and I felt so badly for the significant others…NOT! Let’s see: You’ve got Jamal and Melanie and Melanie and Chris and Chris and Samantha and Samantha and Travis…Can you keep up? These relationships are so damn messy and so much fun to read! I was glued to my kindle til the very end. I like complicated love cause if it were so easy, then everybody would be in a relationship. This story is high stakes drama filled with romantic encounters, boot-knocking, late-night creeps, a couple of pregnancies, and a who the baby daddy?
I took off half a star because there was no warning of change between events and time which can be confusing. One chapter you could be reading present day and the next could be a moment in time. Also Melanie became a little annoying towards the end with her doing the right thing attitude. Girl please. You loved that man once and let him get away and was letting the same thing happen again. While Melanie was a strong woman (not to be confused with the-strong-black-woman-who-don’t-need-no-man played out trope), I much prefer a confident woman who goes after what she wants not because she can, but because she deserves it. Even with that being said, this was a good read and highly recommend.
Good book i would have preferred a better wrap up at the end though it seemed a little rushed handbags why I gave it 4 stars and not 5. Otherwise it was definitely a good read
This book was on amazon for free. One of my book chat friend recommended the book and I must say this was "a diamond in the rough" another quote from another book chat friend. This is a story that went back to first love in college to six years later. The hero and heroine reconnected and found out they never stopped loving each other. Expectation of a son to his family, god, and significant other was explored and resolved for the most point. I loved how the story flowed and how the characters interacted. The supporting characters were beautifully written. I don't want to give the plot away so I would say I highly recommend this read and to take a chance on this author.
This was such a good love story and romance all in one.The two main characters had such chemistry that you could almost see the sizzle. The writer has good command of a solid story. There are also some laugh out loud moments. My only complaint are the few typos and the glossing over not confronting the bad guys and a lack of an epilogue. But this doesn't take from this terrific story.
Really liked the story terrible cute, I go from action, to dark, to erotic, to just needed a little something to make me relax, that's what this book was for me nice mellow read, about love from the beginning to the end, but not without road bumps, I also liked the concept it was different.
Pretty good story line , but need a better editor or proof reader. Great characters and plot. Keep up the good work. I'd give the author another chance
I liked the story but it just seemed like it was missing something, could have been longer, ending could have been a bit better. I would read another book from this author. This was her first book.
