WINNER OF THE UALE 2014 BEST BOOK AWARD! This is... A book about work, at a time when there are too few jobs; A book about labor at a time when hardly anyone belongs to a union; A book about what you already know; A book about learning that explains how you did it; A book for working people, for teachers, and for the labor movement; A book for everyone who has ever asked, "Can they get away with that?"
As much I like the content of this book, I'm giving it 5 stars based solely on the excitement I feel after finding my copy again after losing it for like 6 months. I'm excited because I love the theories of education presented in it, I love how it talks about how adults learn both in general and in a workplace environment, and I love how it presents case studies of these concepts to illustrate itself. I was super bummed when I lost it because I had found myself applying a lot of what I read to my own interactions at work. This is a book that I will have to return to in a couple of years, and until then it will have a place on my shelf as an excellent reference book when I need to remind myself what is Kolb's Cycle of Learning is, or any of the other theories presented in the book. Hopefully I can find some other books by Helena Worthen in the future.
