This story has a lot of twists and turns. I think it’s a bit depressing and deeply sad.
It’s worth reading.

Mafia single dad x blackmailed nanny

I'm sad to rate the book this low because Siobhan Davis is one of my favorite authors but this book just didn't hit it for me. I found myself having to take breaks and not sure if I wanted to continue reading because some scenes just had me rolling my eyes. I didn't love any of the characters even though my heart seriously hurt for our FMC, Sloane, and I cried a lot when they finally discovered her background.

👩🏻👨🏻 THE MCs

Sloane (21) — I already had an issue with Sloane from the Prologue. She dismissed her mother's safety concerns while they were at the bar meeting her hookup who she barely knew in a foreign country which is how they got kidnapped by the cartel.

I also didn't agree with how she handled the whole 'being a nanny to spy on the mafia don' thing. It was terribly... naive... of her to believe that the cartel leader would let them go after she accomplished her task. She never even tried anything or attempted to ask for Cristian's help.

I'm glad she got a lot smarter at the end though.

Cristian (32) — He had a few things going for him — he's a good dad, he knows how to spoil a woman, he's hot, he went for Sloane before 50% into the book — but he still felt caricature-y to me. He didn't feel genuine and it was more like he was written this way based from a checklist of characteristics of an ideal boyfriend. When his love was tested at a most crucial time, when he finally found out about Sloane being under the cartel's thumb, he didn't even give her a chance to explain. Plus, he was so freaking blind about Isotta.

A few more things that didn't work for me:

- Everyone in the book villainized Cristian's ex for the very despicable reason that she didn't want to take care of another person's kid. They kept saying she "showed her true colors" when she walked out on Cristian after he adopted Elio. They talked about her like she was SO EVIL for doing that, one of the friends even said she was disgusted.

I felt like this reaction was over-the-top just to make it seem like Sloane, who "loves" Elio, is a much better fit for Cristian. Where is the understanding that not every woman wants to be a mother? They should have just respected that choice. And if Cristian really wanted to marry her, he should've made sure she was okay with the adoption in the first place, right?

- The side characters were honestly annoying. I think it hasn't even been two weeks since Cristian and Sloane met when they visited these friends and they were pushing Cristian and Sloane hard towards each other. I don't get it. Why couldn't they just let things progress between the two naturally? The whole thing felt too much like high school to me.

I haven’t spent much time inside any of the worlds that Siobhan Davis has crafted to life because, honestly, she tends to be a little more graphic on the page than I prefer. I like dark romance, and I especially like Mafia, Mob & Underworld series, but I’m not a huge fan of putting *on paper* any depravity towards women and children. It’s one thing to be *told* things, than to read them *on the page*. Siobhan doesn’t hold back and while her writing may be really good, that’s the reason I don’t one-click her books on the regular.

But I digress, let us discuss Protecting What’s Mine for a minute!

Yes, the depravity was full-on-paper with this one and I knew it before I picked it to read early. But you know what else was full-on? The relationship building between Sloane and Cristian and little Elio, of course! I love the push-pull they had with each other and because they both struggled (for different reasons) to cross the line, it turned their journey into a scorching slow-burn and I was here for all of it! Aside from all the usual mafia shenanigans, they were explosive and on fire most of the time. They captivated me as a couple, but Sloane stood a little above for me. THIS WOMAN! The weight this woman held inside her chest would slay even the biggest giants, but she persevered, and she fought like nobody’s business while the fighting was good! There are circumstances in this story I can’t talk about because, spoiler, but I haven’t felt this much anguish on behalf of fictional characters in a really long time. My heart hasn’t soared for fictional characters like it did for Elio, Sloane & Cristian in a looooong time. This was a well thought out plot with exceptional character development that anyone who likes dark romances should be reading right now.

I absolutely love Siobhan Davis mafia romance stories and this one gets added to my favorites list! Her brand of storytelling always sucks me right in I love how graphic and emotional her writing can be it makes me enjoy the story that much more. These characters were amazing and their chemistry was on fire ! The spice was definitely spicy and the emotions gave me all the feels and boy did I feel it all! From betrayal to lies to love to being scared and keeping secrets, keeping them quiet, it was definitely a fantastic story and one I highly recommend! Don’t sleep on this my dark mafia romance lovers you don’t want to miss it I can promise you that!

Ok first of all Siobhan Davis is one of my favorite authors that being said this book consumed me from the very start of the prologue to the very last page.

Set two years after Taking What's Mine, Protecting What's Mine starts with the prologue that grips your heart and sets up the story of Cristian and Sloane.

Our MMC, Cristian, Don DiPietro, is the single dad to his 4yr old son Elio. Cristian is loyal and protective book of not only his son, but his friends and loved ones too. Sloane enters his life as his sons new nanny but turns his life upside down until she consumes him

Sloane, our FMC has been through the wringer. She’s such a strong woman and character, but Siobhan has always seemed to have strong heroines. She’s doing what she has to do to survive. The longer she is Elio’s nanny the closer the bond is that develops between them, but not only Elio but Cristian too.

As time passes by Sloane is running out of time to tell Cristian the truth and what is going on with her life but will he still have those feelings and when everything comes out in the open will he still want her in his life.

If you are a fan of Siobhan’s Mazzone Mafia world or if you you love a good dark romance with stories and characters that suck you in from the very first page, then definitely add this to your TBR.

DNF ( I read a lot of mafia romance.. and dark romance. This one is a no)

Be very very careful if you find topics of being roofied and gang rape sensitive.

The opening chapter the mother and adult daughter are roofied, kidnapped, and then wake naked and mother is gang raped in front of the daughter to make her comply to their wants. It a described on page rape by 3 men at the same time.
Then chapter 2 the main female character has forcibly had so much plastic surgery done to her.. to make her appealing to men they need to lure. I found the opening chapter absolutely disgusting. It felt like it was done for shock value. I just cannot read this one. I understand for some they might get past it. I’ve read plenty of dark books but most didn’t have on page rape scenes. It was how the book opened! I decided this one was not for me. I wish kindle had a DNF button.

***4,5 "Little Prince!!!" stars***

"Sometimes love finds us when we're least expecting it."

It was so good to be back into the Mazzone Mafia world!!!
I love this gang very much and it was Christian DiPietro's time to find the one, even though she came in unconventional way and with bad intentions...
Still, their story brought me pain, as much as satisfaction!!!
And little Elio was the cherry on the top!!! I freakin' loved the small dude!!!

"Christian doesn't know that he's already opened his door to the enemy."

Sloane and her mother's vacations to Mexico turned into a living hell when they've been taken by the cartel for their vile purposes....
Six months under their cruel hands, she needs to meet their expectactions by intruding into their enemy's home as a nanny and to find his secrets, if she wants for her mother to survive this nightmare!!!
Sloane is getting into Christian DiPietro's home as the nanny of little Elio and the connection between her and Elio is instant... And as the time is passing by, the lines are blurbed between her and Christian and it is impossible for her to betray the people that she came to love!!! But her mother's fate is in her own hands...

"Failure isn't an option. Otherwise, we're both dead."

Christian is hurt by his previous relationship...
He only wants to focus to his adopted son and to give him the world...
The new nanny is so good for Elio, but a walking temptation for him and even though he doesn't want to mix work with pleasure, it is impossible to not be touched by this beautiful and very young girl that had changed everything into his home...
So what will he do when he will discover that Sloane is not who he things she is???
What will happen when her betrayal will slay him and his son???

"I want her... In every way imaginable."

I loved Sloane and Christian very much...
Yes, the nanny- employer concept is not an original one, but I really liked the way Siobhan Davis developed it!!!
These two were perfect for each other and Elio meant the world to both of them, so I loved the connection between the three of them...
I also loved all the cameos from previous characters of this world and I'm impatiently waiting for Ben's story!!! It was the first little dude that had stolen my heart in this universe and now that he is a grown up man, I need to learn more about him and his antics!!!

"I want this. I want this so badly.
My heart is splintering as reminders of my hideous reality crack through my happy shell..."

What would you do for someone you loved? Would you lie? Betray? Steal? Kill?

When we meet Slone, she's on an impossible mission. She and her mother have been kidnapped, and if she doesn't comply, her mother will be killed.

She's to become the nanny for Christian. Seduce him, steal from him, and lead to his death. It's the worst position ever. It's really dark, and while reading it, my heart hurt for Slone and her mom.

Christian, while being in the mafia, is a stand-up guy. He's raising his brothers child, and he loves that little boy as his own. He has a great friend group (previous characters from other books, please read them, so good) who supports him and wants what's best for him. So when they tell him to go for the nanny...

The book has so many sweet moments. Slone really falls in love with Christian and his son, and they do to. But what do you do when you're constantly reminded about what's at stake?

There's a lot of angst here. Whew is there. And I had enjoyed putting the pieces together and also waiting for the ticking time bomb (the truth) to come out.

It's at times very heartbreaking. AF. Be warned about that. But Slone is strong, and we keep rooting for her.

5⭐|3🌶|6%🌶frequency

This book makes me speechless.
Don't know if I'll find a lot to say, but I'll try.

First of all. If you are a sensitive reader, then this book is not for you! It's a dark romance, and DARK has definitely been capitalized!! And that's from the very beginning. I'm not sensitive to such things, but even I had to force myself to breathe 😱

I'm not sure if I ever read a mafia romance with a MMC that's so freaking cute. God, Cristian is just soooo cute 🥰 He is a perfect dad. And he isn't even Elio's bilingual dad. But he gives af about it. He is his son. Period. What Elio wants, Elio gets 😎
And when he met Sloane, OMG... He is a goner. This chemistry is absolutely 💥💥💥 definitely soulmates. And Elio fits in it too. It could all be just perfect.
But no, that would be too easy 🙈 Even though I would have wished it, especially for Sloane. It broke my heart so much 💔
And the end... Don't let me start talking about the end. No, I just can't 😭😭😭😭 I'm still crying. I'm sure I'll cry for a few days.

I recommend at least reading the Accardi twins duet before this book. Because they are best friends with Cristian, and they (including their girls) are very present in this book. Loved it, because I loved the twins.

And of course, there has to be someone I hated. Not just the obvious person, but also Elio's aunt Isa. God, this woman drove me crazy. I hated her so much. And I'm not the only one 😎 Gia (one of the Accardi FMCs hates her too, because of reasons 😉).

OK, now it has become a long review 😁 This book is just soooo perfect.
I can't wait to read more of Siobhan's books soon, especially the books in this universe 🤩
If you love mafia romance and don't have triggers, then you have to read this book!

When I say 5 stars - I MEAN IT. I haven’t read anything like this in a while. From the prologue…I was gutted (in the best way!). When you have my emotions reeling at the very beginning…you know it’s good!

I cannot praise the character development and interconnections enough. She has a reading order in the front of the book and I really encourage you to take advantage of that! Could this be a standalone? Yes. Would you love it EVEN MORE if you read the books before? YES.

Dark romance, mafia world, spicy and emotional? An MMC who knows how to treat a woman? A FMC who is his perfect match and you can feel the chemistry coming off the page? Cristian and Sloane are 🔥👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 I can’t stop gushing about this one.

Couldn’t put it down. Hands down my favorite by this author. Prepare to want to tell all your friends about it! PS- now I really cannot wait for Tullia and Rowan’s story!

SIOBHAN ~ You have outdone yourself ~ Protecting what’s mine was an absolutely phenomenal read !
Siobhan I know you’ve said on your socials this one is the grittiest, angsty book you’ve written ~ You have excelled.
I fell hard for Christian (Sorry Bennet)

Where do I start with this?? First off, this book is not for the faint of heart. So, with that in mind, this is a dark romance so heed the triggers if you need them.

Protecting what’s mine was and is one of the best books I've read this year, another phenomenal addition set in the Mazzone Mafia universe, one of my all time mafia series. I seriously can’t recommend these interlocked standalone’s highly enough.

Seriously, this book was perfect. Oh my gosh. I can’t shout out enough, trust me - READ IT. Stop thinking about it and just do it. I promise you will LOVE it.
Christian & Sloane Will bring you to your knees!

I have read my fair share of dark romances but this one far exceeded my expectations for so many reasons.
Siobhan is an absolute MUST read author for me. She truly knows how to tell a story that will grab readers right from the start and keep them fully engaged til the end. Her characters are flawed and yet you find yourself empathizing with them at times.
I love that the dark elements in this story aren't just there for the shock factor - it's a part of the storytelling as much as the characters themselves are. But then we add in the romance. The angst. The vulnerability, it will leave you breathless.

4.5⭐️/2.5🌶️

This was my first book by this author and let me just say — I’m impressed! The first few chapters completely sold me on the story. I was hooked right from the start.

Poor Sloane! she went through so much. 💔 I’m usually not a fan of push and pull dynamics, but in this case, it made total sense given everything Sloane was dealing with. Her strength was what kept me invested throughout the book.

Christian was a solid male lead, but I’ll be honest — I was way more interested in Sloane and Elio. 🖤

The writing, plot, and character arcs were all wonderfully crafted. Everything flowed so naturally, and I genuinely loved the entire experience. Definitely adding this author to my watchlist! 🙌✨

Siobhan has yet again delivered another great Mafia story, and please check the trigger warnings before jumping in. This is DARK!

I have no triggers and will read anything, but even I had to take a moment to process what I had read in some places. As a daughter whose mother is one of her best friends, and as a mother who would burn the world for her daughter, the prologue isn't for the faint of heart.

This is a single dad, boss v nanny romance that kept me captivated from the beginning. I laughed, was left speechless, gasped, and so much more. Sloane and Cristian had buckets of chemistry, and the tension was delicious. I fell hard for Cristian.

This story will definitely take you on a journey.

If you're after your next dark romance Mafia read, this needs to be it!

What’s not to love?? Full of angst, drama, action, betrayal, loyalty, love, oh so much love.

I throughly enjoyed this and struggled putting it down. The first part pulls at your heart strings, what Sloane goes through just breaks your heart.
I loved the instant attraction between Sloane and Christian. Christian is such a good father and I love the bond he has with his son. And to see the bond Sloane builds with him.

The decisions she has to make, the pain she is going through.

But that attraction. Seeing them fall hard - just perfection.

Completely addictive: Must Read

WOW!! I feel like I say that after every book I read by Siobhan, but it's so accurate. Every book she writes blows me away.

Protecting What's Mine is a wild and emotional journey - one I was not prepared for.

I have been patiently waiting for Cristian's book and I was not one bit disappointed.

Cristian is fiercely protective of his family and friends, especially his son. He is also a very feared yet respected man. He is Don DiPietro and he finds himself in need of a new nanny since his current one is getting married.

Sloane has found herself in a very difficult position. After suffering through unimaginable things, she forced to make decisions that will ultimately cost someone their life.

Siobhan weaves a very intricate and suspenseful story that had me on edge the entire time. My heart broke for Sloane so much. What she has endured would make so many break, yet she continued to fight. She's an absolutely warrior.

And Cristian - that man owns my heart. He may be ruthless, but his heart is full of pure love and adoration.

I have already said too much. Just go read this one. But please head trigger warnings as this is a dark, mafia romance.

Happy release day @siobhandavisauthor ! I can’t wait for everyone to read this romance!

Protecting What’s Mine is a forbidden, single dad, nanny/boss, second chance romance between Sloane and Christian.

My heart broke for Sloane so many times in this book. She’s truly put in an impossible situation where no matter what choice she makes, someone will get hurt, or worse. But I love that that doesn’t stop her from loving Christian and his family with her whole heart, letting them bring joy and love into her life that she doesn’t feel she deserves.

I loved Cristian! I loved how his first priority is always his family, especially his son. He’s so patient with Sloane, never pushing past her boundaries, and he would never let anyone lay a hand on her or disrespect her in any way. If you love a good mafia man, get ready to fall head over heels for Cristian!

Thank you so much to @siobhandavisauthor and @theauthor.agency for my arc! Grab it in KU now💗

Mafia books by this author will always be my favourite and almost certainly be on my top reads list. This book is no different in that regard.
What IS different is how long it took me to read, this book consumed me, but please make sure you have the time and strength when reading, as even for those of us with zero triggers you'll find it both heavy and inspiring.
To evoke such strong emotions from readers speaks volumes about both the book and the author, more than any words from me can.
I definitely recommend you one click immediately.

If you haven’t read Siobhan Davis you need to!! This book was a part of her mafia romance books and I loved it! I did not want to put this book down! You have Sloane and her mom on vacation to Mexico when everything goes wrong. Then you see Christian looking for a nanny and Sloane becoming the nanny for the cartel. Will Sloane betray Christian or the cartel? This book had me on my toes and up late at night til the very end! You also have spice and if you have triggers definitely read through them before reading. I 100% recommend if you love dark romance this on is for you🖤

From the prologue, this book destroyed me. I love Sloane so much, and my heart broke for her. She was in an incomprehensible situation, under constant unimaginable stress, and the stakes were so very high. I read this all in one night, and honestly, I think this is one you should take your time with. The things that happen are so much, but the moments she has with Cristian and Elio are a welcome reprieve. This had me on the edge of my seat as I could not guess how this situation could be resolved without immense collateral damage. This is a standalone book, but I loved seeing my favorite characters from the other books set in this world. I can't wait to read this again at a slower pace and really process all that happened. This one will really stick with you.

Uffda, this was a hard read but I could NOT put it down.

For being a Mob Boss Cristian is SO SWOONY! I fell in love with him immediately.

Every time we cut to Sloane’s mom I had a hard time getting through it. I can handle a lot of dark in my books, but this one was really difficult and I found myself skimming some of those moments. Definitely check TWs! Siobhan gives us a very strong FMC in Sloane. She’s doing what she can to survive, but also still has a conscience. My heart broke for her and her mom over and over again.

The chemistry Sloane and Cristian have is 🔥🔥 I loved every second of their pining and denial to act on it. The angst 🤌🤌

The world building of this Mafia is amazing. I’ve only read one other book in it but I absolutely am going to go back to the start so I can get everyone’s back stories.

Siobhan is becoming an auto-read author for me and I’m not mad about it.

Over the top

New author for me but the premise of the book interested me.
Everything was OTT especially the violence to both the FMC & her Mom. Was it necessary to have video up on videos of her being beaten & SA'd sent to the FMC every week as a threat?
Then a 5 year time jump again OTT.
Author can write but everyone & I do mean everyone talked too politely, not at all realistic.

And honestly FMC should've just slipped her boss a short but descriptive note in the beginning to warn him & ask for help. She was too dumb to believe that the Cartel boss wouldn't kill her & her mom.

Sloane and her mother are kidnapped by a cartel. Sloane is coerced into getting close to Cristian in order to gather information for the cartel. As Elio’s nanny, Cristian tries to resist his growing feelings for her — the familiar dilemma of not wanting to get involved with the nanny to avoid complicating things.

What I found difficult to read were the extremely graphic descriptions of the abuse Sloane’s mother endured. Some scenes were very distressing and, in my opinion, not necessary for the story — especially since the book is presented as a romance.

As for Sloane and Cristian’s relationship, it starts out as a slow burn, but just when they finally come together, Cristian discovers Sloane's connection to the cartel. She is forced to run, and the story then jumps forward five years.

That plot twist felt a bit too abrupt and overdone. The ending also seemed rushed, and their relationship didn’t have much development afterward.

Overall, the book felt more like a dark drama than a romance. It wasn’t quite what I was expecting.

Siobhan Davis mafia is some of my favorite- dark, twisted, yet somehow always swoony and sweet?! Protecting What's Mine is yet another alluring, page turning, and definitely dark mafia romance...one with a sweet and tender romance at it's core.

If you've been following the mafia stories, you'll know Cristian. This, of course, can be read as a standalone, but it's best read with some of the other mafia stories (especially the Accardi twins duet) since the characters grace these pages and there is an overarching mafia plot that is the catalyst for the events of this story. I won't say much about the plot to not spoil anything, but Cristian is a single father to his nefarious now dead brother's son and is need of a nanny. His enemies see it as the perfect opportunity to insert a mole to help bring him down- and they find the perfect victim that they force into the role....in quite upsetting ways.

The romance part of this is very sweet- they fall fast and hard and Cristian is swoony and protective and all the delicious things. Sloane is just doing her best to survive her situation. The dark elements of this story were quite unsettling- I'm rarely triggered by things (and have read all of Siobhan's books and this one isn't the darkest) but I found parts of this triggering for me, I think in part because of the particular set-up. The beginning itself is quite immersively traumatic for our heroine (and us) and I think that unsettled me in a way that made it more challenging to get my head into the romance for a bit. Again, this isn't Siobhan's darkest book at all, the dark elements are pretty par for the course with her mafia, so I think it was just again the exact set up here that for some reason just hit me unexpectedly. The story is super fast paced and entertaining overall- a great addition to the series.

What to expect:
✔️ Age Gap
✔️ Nanny / Boss
✔️ Single Dad
✔️ Mafia
✔️ Second Chance
✔️ Slow Burn
✔️ Dark Romance

Set two years after Taking What’s Mine, Protecting What’s Mine starts with the angst from the beginning with the prologue. Sloane and her mother are on vacation in Mexico when the cartel kidnaps them both and forces Sloane to do their bidding using her mother as collateral. Cristian (Don DiPietro) is a single dad looking for a new Nanny for his adopted son, Elio. Sloane has been planted in Cristian and Elio’s lives with orders to seduce Cristian and find valuable information for the cartel.

I enjoyed all the main characters and revisited other characters from the Mazzone Mafia universe. Cristian is sweet and likeable, and even though he is a mafia Don, he has an obvious sweet spot for Sloane. Sloan has been pulled into the worst year of her life after being kidnapped. She is trying to navigate her new job and the newly forming bond with Elio, caring for him like he is her own.

Even with the dark mafia trope and sensitive content, which some may find triggering, the characters pulled me into the storyline, making Protecting What’s Mine an enjoyable read with the right amount of spice and angst. I am giving a rating of 4.5 / 5 stars. I can’t wait for Rowan and Tullia’s story next!
