Full of faith, hope, and romance, this series takes you into the Heart of Amish country.
Sweet, shy, and devoted Amish woman, Jane Bontrager secretly hates her childhood nickname of Plain Jane. She doesn’t know who started the ugly name back in her school days, but she can never forget how it has long made her feel.
Jane has a huge crush on Amish buggy maker Samuel Mast, but they are both so shy they are more likely to turn old and gray alone than to ever get together—especially since Samuel holds a secret or two of his own.
What can bridge the gap between two young people who both deserve love and happiness?

This is a sweet story that has characters and cats that the reader will fall in love with. It was so much fun to read about characters that I have read about in previous books, especially Abram and Lydia.
This book focused on Sam and Jane. I loved how Sam tried to win Jane's heart while battling some of the past hurts. Jane is such a compassionate person and cares deeply for cats, especially Secret!
Thanks to Barbour Publishing for the arc. The opinions are my own.
If you’ve ever carried a childhood nickname like a heavy coat you can’t quite shake off, Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer will hit closer to home than you’d expect. 🌾🐴✨ While Amish romance isn’t usually my go-to genre, Anne Blackburne has written a story that is so grounded in believable, tender human emotion that I couldn't help but appreciate the journey.
What hooked me was how Barbour Publishing and Blackburne avoided the "perfect" tropes. Jane and Samuel aren't cinematic heroes; they are two shy, quiet souls who are genuinely afraid of being seen—and that vulnerability felt incredibly real.
Why this one stuck with me:
✨ The Weight of a Name Jane Bontrager’s struggle with the "Plain Jane" label isn't just a plot point; it’s a heartbeat. Blackburne captures that specific sting of school-age insults that follow you into adulthood, making Jane’s journey toward self-worth feel earned and authentic.
✨ Beautifully Believable Characters Sometimes "shyness" in books feels like a gimmick, but here, it’s a lived-in trait. Watching Jane and Samuel navigate their feelings—two people who would rather turn gray alone than risk a misunderstood word—was both frustrating and deeply moving. Their hesitation felt human, not just written.
✨ Secrets in the Shadows Samuel Mast isn't just a love interest; he’s a man carrying his own weight. The "secrets" mentioned in the description aren't just there for drama—they add layers to his character that make you root for him to finally find his footing.
✨ A Quiet, Steady Faith The Amish setting isn’t just window dressing. It’s the framework for a story about hope and the courage it takes to believe you deserve happiness, even when you’ve spent years telling yourself you’re "just plain."
My Takeaway: This book is for the wallflowers, the quiet ones, and anyone who has ever felt "less than" because of a label they didn't ask for. Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer is a well-crafted, gentle reminder that being "plain" doesn't mean you aren't worthy of a spectacular love. It’s a soft, sincere read that proves character depth can be found in the quietest of places. 🥨📖🙏
Thank you to @barbourbooks and #NetGalley for the copy in exchange for my honest review.
Publication date January 1,2026 set in Ohio This was a cute book. I don’t know that it was supposed to be funny, but I found the 2 main characters to be kinda that way. Plain Jane is now grown up, but her childhood nickname hurt her over the years. Sam, who unwittingly was the cause of the nickname is in love with her. As an adult he is worried and backward about wanting to admit his part in the nickname fiasco. The story begins with a wedding trip and the 2 cats who went missing shortly after they left. While Jane enlists family and friends to search for the missing cats it is a task that involves a few twists in the story. I am a sucker for “silly misunderstandings “ in a story so this pulled me in. A new author for me and will be interested to follow up on her writings. The only thing that felt off to me was the prayers said and shared aloud. Most of the Amish books I have read, everyone prays silently. But I’m not Amish so not sure if that is a fast rule or not. I received a digital version of the book from Barbour publishing through NetGalley. This is my honest review.
This is book eleven in The Heart of the Amish Series and although each can be read as a stand-alone they have characters that connect and they are so enjoyable and fun to read that you will not want to miss them. Jane has felt invisible most of her life because of a nickname she was given as a child. Meanwhile her secret admirer has secrets he carries around that hinder him. Add in adorable cats and best friends along with a newcomer to town and you have the makings of twists and turns that keep you turning pages to see what happens next. I feel like these characters and the bakery are a gathering place I would like to visit. This story develops well and shows how secrets cause harm to the person carrying them but also the person who they are about and hurts the people closest to them. I also took away that Jane needs to realize God sees her even when she feels plain and unseen. An enjoyable read that has deeper meaning. I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit/Barbour Publishing. The honest review and opinions are my own and were not required.
Get caught up in another story in the series about Amish friends and their cats, which all came from the same litter. This one features baker Jane Bontrager and her dilemmas. The realistic characters deal with drama and relationship struggles. The book plods along with a bit of humor and characters second-guessing themselves. A bit of suspense and some surprises add to the novel. I have to admit I didn’t find this one as too engaging as the others I have read in this series. Some parts seem redundantly wordy and make the tale drag a bit. I would like to see more depth from the characters instead of so much superficial reactions in order to make me care even more about their relationships and what happens to them. It does have a good lesson about being honest and open and apologizing when needed as well as helping one another. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley. All opinions are my own. #PlainJanesSecretAdmirer #NetGalley
This is a wonderful book set in Willow Creek, Ohio! There's a missing cat, a hurtful mystery solved and of course a secret admirer. Most of the story takes place at a bakery; one of my favorite places to visit!
There are some familiar characters from previous books: Lizzie's Little Mouse, Mary's Calico Hope and Ruth's Gingersnap Surprise. We discover Jane in this story. She's kind, considerate, fun and a loyal friend. Sam is 😍! He's got everything he could ever want except a soulmate. His hurtful words regarding Jane as a teenager torture him and he knows that he needs to make things right. Eliza is the best friend ever! She's supportive of Jane and very perceptive. Ben is my favorite! He's a lot of fun, always one step ahead and he believes in true love.
I enjoy reading about the cats in these books! Each one has its own unique personality. Secret and Little Mouse are playful and inquisitive which sometimes leads to small mishaps.
I was provided a complimentary copy of the book from Barbour Publishing Inc. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This sweet story follows Jane Bontrager, a baker who still feels the pain of her childhood nickname, Plain Jane, and secretly has a crush on Samuel Mast, an Amish buggy maker who has secrets of his own. Both are too shy to confess their feelings, but their friendship deepens when a mysterious secret admirer begins leaving Jane notes and gifts.
This is a heartwarming story, with two lovable main characters—gentle, shy, and endearing. I found myself rooting for them to find the courage to express their true feelings, amid all the obstacles and misunderstandings. I loved Jane's quiet strength and vulnerability, and Sam’s thoughtfulness and kindness make them a perfect match!
Plain Jane has the perfect blend of mystery, adorable cats, and wholesome romance.
The vibes: 💌 Clean, wholesome romance 📔 Sweet, shy main characters 💌 Secret admirers. 📔 Cute cats! 💌 Cozy bakeries and cozy settings 📔 Supportive friend group
I received a complimentary review copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Scripture Connection Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift. Matthew 5:23-24
Spiritual Themes There was a line, early on, with one of the characters praying for something and feeling it was trivial, or possibly bothering God. I was glad to see, later on, the affirmation that we can bring our concerns before God. They are neither small nor meaningless to Him :).
"Lieb, Gott never gets tired of hearing our needs. He loves us. Keeping praying." p. 128
Jane’s mother, Sarah, tells her this, and I do appreciate that Blackburne often shows wisdom flowing from the older generation to the younger.
There’s also a brief but important conversation about the importance of reparations — and not just forgiveness — for hurtful actions.
What I Liked The Heart of the Amish series is different than a lot of series I’m used to, as there are multiple different authors writing the series. I read the first few books by a couple different authors and have read all the Blackburne titles in the series. Based on what I’ve read, it seems like the authors are carrying out their own story arcs within the series. In Blackburne’s case, at least, the same characters are reemerging throughout the books, although the protagonists differ.
Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer follows Jane, one of the main secondary characters from the preceding book. It also shares the bakery setting, although Lizzie (from the last book) is absent from most of this one. Notably, we also get a bit more development in the plot with the older characters: Lydia Coblentz and Bishop Abram. In fact, these last two characters have possibly been the most consistent/developed across books, so it’s interesting to catch up with them.
The book’s “secret admirer” title caught my attention. Although I was hoping for more emphasis about the “secret” part of the admiration (i.e., more about solving the mystery of who’s leaving gifts), it was interesting to see how the admirer affected Jane’s life and relationships. On a similar note, I like stories with friendship emphasis, and it was fun to read about the overlapping relationships within two sets of best friends (Jane and Eliza, Samuel and Benuel). Three of the characters have a shared history, and it was very intriguing to read about the shared history (and romantic feelings) between two of the characters. I found parts of the story absolutely delightful because of this, and I found other parts extremely frustrating for the same reason.
There’s a new, shocking antagonist (if he can be categorized as such), and the shocking-ness reminds me of another character (Evelyn? I think her name was) from the author’s first book in the series. These characters add interest, as their behavior feels even more surprising in the Amish context.
Content Notes I finished the book about a week ago, but I’m not recalling content concerns.
Respectful Discussion One of the major events in the story felt somewhat like a plot device in terms of propelling the story faster than it would have naturally gone. The event got the story where it needed to go, but the occurrence felt a bit convenient (albeit inconvenient for the characters experiencing it).
Recommendation Status Although it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, I enjoyed reading Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer. The shared-history romance was sweet and it was fun to check in on Lydia and the bishop, as well. Recommended for readers who prefer gentle romances and don’t mind a good dose of feline companionship.
Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of the book from the publisher. Opinions expressed are my own.
If you love gentle romance wrapped in faith, hope, and the quiet beauty of Amish country, Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer by Anne Blackburne offers a tender story that feels like a warm breeze through a sunlit field. This eleventh novel in The Heart of the Amish series invites readers into a world where small moments carry big meaning—and where the bravest journeys often happen within the heart. It starts with a heroine you will root for from the start.
Jane Bontrager is sweet, shy, and deeply devoted to her faith, but beneath her calm exterior lies a wound she’s carried since childhood. The cruel nickname “Plain Jane” still echoes in her mind, shaping how she sees herself and how she believes others see her. Her struggle with self-worth feels achingly real and incredibly relatable, especially for readers who have ever felt overlooked or underestimated. The author builds a love story on quiet glances and hidden hopes through the pages of this book.
Jane’s secret crush on Samuel Mast, the talented and equally shy buggy maker, adds a layer of soft, slow-moving romance. Their interactions are filled with hesitant smiles, lingering looks, and the kind of tension that comes from two hearts afraid to speak what they truly feel. Samuel’s own secrets only deepen the emotional pull, creating a gentle mystery that keeps you turning pages.
What truly sets this story apart is how naturally faith is woven into the characters’ lives. Faith truly plays the central role in their journey. Jane’s journey isn’t just about finding love—it’s about learning to see herself through God’s eyes rather than through the painful labels of her past. The message of grace, healing, and quiet courage will resonate deeply with Christian readers and anyone who appreciates stories of spiritual growth.
Why You’ll Love This Book
🌿 Wholesome, clean romance with heartfelt emotional depth
✝️ Strong faith themes that uplift without feeling forced
🐎 Charming Amish setting that feels peaceful and immersive
💛 Relatable characters who grow in beautiful, meaningful ways
Final Thoughts
Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer by Anne Blackburne is a gentle, soul-soothing read—perfect for a cozy afternoon with a cup of tea and a heart ready for hope. It reminds us that even the shyest voices deserve to be heard and that love, when guided by faith, can quietly transform everything.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own
Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer by Anne Blackburne is a cute tale. I enjoyed getting to know Jane and Eliza better as well as Sam and Ben. I thought Ben was entertaining. I loved his reactions to Sam’s attempts at romance. I thought Sam’s gifts were sweet and thoughtful just like Sam. His shyness prevents him from telling Jane how he feels as well as something he did as a teen. We get to see how fear can twist your thoughts. It is better to let it go and leave it with God. I felt for Jane when Little Mouse disappeared, because I know how it feels when your cat is lost. The lost cat plot, though, lagged. (needed a little more action). I like how the cat story turned out. Owning a pet can significantly impact an individual’s life and contribute to personal development. I was surprised to hear that the cats enjoyed playing in water. I have owned a few cats over the years, but I have yet to find one that liked water (my current cat is the only one who tolerates a bath without scratching or biting me). I hope that we get Miriam and David’s story soon (I am curious to see how it will play out). One of my favorite quotes from the story comes from Lydia when she needs to talk to Jane about something that is bothering her. Jane offers to make tea, but Lydia says she needs something stronger, “I’m talking about chocolate, child! I need some gut, strong hot cocoa. Possibly with marshmallows if you have any of those tiny ones.” I got a chuckle out of that line (my mother has the same philosophy). Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer is the eleventh installment in The Heart of the Amish series, yet it also works well as an independent read. Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer is a sweet story with tasty pastries, a water disaster, cats gone astray, special gifts, a nervy newcomer, and returning honeymooners.
I loved this book so much I didn't want it to end and I'm looking forward to more books to come in The Heart of the Amish series. Have you ever been reading a book and have the thought that these characters are people I would like to be friends with? That's the idea that popped into my head. Anne's characters are so well written and developed by the end of the book you are sad to see them go. Jane Bontrager is a shy young Amish woman who unfortunately was given the name Plain Jane by a young man who secretly liked her when they were in school many years ago. One day the name just slipped out because he didn't want the other students to know he liked her and the name stuck with her ever sense. Jane always disliked the name and the way it made her feel. Samuel Mast is the young Amish buggy maker in town and Jane has had a big crush on him since their school days, but she has never let on about it. Samuel has a little secret of his own but when the ceiling in Jane's home above the bakery where she works has a leak and some of it comes down Samuel and his friend Ben come to the rescue. The only issue besides the ceiling is that the cat that Jane is watching for her sister-in-law Lizzie comes up missing after a door is left open and it escapes. Jane and her friend Eliza look frantically for the cat, and Ben and Samuel also help. During this time Samuel has feelings that come to life for Jane and he becomes her secret admirer, leaving her notes and little gifts outside of the bakery she works out. Things go array when a newcomer comes to town and sets his eyes on Jane and decides to stir things up and Jane is in quite a state as is Ben. As the story unfolds truths come to light and forgiveness is the only way forward. There is everything to love about the storyline. It's intriguing and thoughtfully written.
Anne Blackburne has created an Amish style tale of how past wrongs can come back to plague us and how the power of forgiveness can change the life of not only the forgiven but the forgiver. Jane has had a crush on Samuel since childhood, but he never seems to look her way. Perhaps it’s that awful nickname she was given in school of Plain Jane. Of course, she was Plain in the Amish sense, but did that also mean her features weren’t attractive enough to catch the attention of the young buggy maker she pined for? Sam had loved Jane since they were children, but shyness held him back. Shyness and the fact that Jane didn’t know he’d been the one to give her that Plain Jane nickname long ago just to prevent other boys from teasing him about her. He’d never confessed it to her and the wrong had grown in his heart over the years until the fear of doing so and being spurned kept him from acting on his feeling of love for Jane. He mostly just stayed away. But what if he could give her a gift and hint at his feelings – anonymously? Jane enjoys having a secret admirer and fantasizing over who it might be, hoping against hope it would be Sam, but even as they grow closer, the unspoken wedge between them holds them apart. Then, what happens when someone else begins to seek Jane’s affection? Will the secret admirer ploy backfire on Sam? Will Jane ever find her friend’s cat that Sam inadvertently let out? Can she ever forgive him or learn to trust him again once she learns the truth? A friendly Amish bakery provides the setting for a little suspense and a lot of romance in this story of finding God’s perfect plan and following it with all your heart. My Review:
First of all, cat mom here. I love cats! So I was immediately drawn into Jane's story based on that alone. The front cover is definitely working for me. The other thought while enjoying this story is why do kids have to be so mean? Poor Jane has always been a shy girl. In school she had pinned a nickname or should I say it was pinned to her. Ever since then she struggles to fit in anywhere. Being shy doesn't help either.
I love the unassuming way of Jane. I didn't really care for Sam but I do like his interactions with Jane. I also loved Eliza and Ben. They are a really great add to the story.
Sometimes love and romance doesn't fit inside a box. It may look different than expected and that's okay.
This story is a really good one and it captured my attention right away. Perfect by the fire kind of story.
**Disclosure**This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
What a fun book this has been to read. I enjoyed getting to know Jane better. An innocent nickname given to her still bothers her today. No one really wants to be referred to as “Plain Jane.” Visions of a plain person who most don’t see is what our main character feels like. She has little confidence but if she only knew how beautiful she is to others that insecurity would fade away. I like how Jane is very kind and shy at the same time. She has no idea who her secret admirer is but oh my will there be some hurt feelings when secrets are revealed.
Samuel is a gentle person who loves to help others. For as long as he can remember he has had a crush on Jane. He regrets giving her a nickname so long ago. I don’t think he realizes how it has affected her though. It was fun to watch his little plan of being “the secret admirer.” His gifts are practical yet thoughtful. Now if he could only find the courage to tell her how he feels life would not be so complicated. Turning to God he knows he needs to ask Him to guide him to repair the damage he has done to Jane’s self-esteem.
I like how the story shows how insecurity and rejection can lead to feelings of not being worthy. God loves each of us and wants us to be free from anything that holds us back from living a life of joy. I couldn’t wait to see if a certain cat would turn up and where it ran off to. There is much to enjoy in this story and a good reminder that ,”God never gets tired of hearing our needs.”
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer (The Heart of the Amish Book 11) this is a sweet story of two individuals who have liked one another since grade school. Jane is quiet and reserved to those who don’t know her well. She is also a bit self conscious since she was dubbed Plain Jane in school. The name embedded its way into her self confidence and she has always felt just plain and nothing special. Samuel Mast has his own secret as he is the one who created the name when the boys were teasing him in grade school about liking Jane. It was a moment that he regretted and has haunted him. They are both shy and don’t have a lot of confidence to share their feeling towards one another. Jane and her friend are left running the Plain Beignet when the owner goes on her honeymoon for two weeks. Jane lives in one of the apartments above the business with her cat Secret. She will be caring for Little Mouse while the owner is away too. The first day of being in charge disaster happens with a leaking roof and repairs needed. Then sweet Little Mouse goes missing. The cat can’t be found anywhere. With the help of Samuel Mast and friends they run into several mishaps and are trying to figure out whom Jane’s secret admirer is that is leaving presents at the back door. A heartfelt story that will warm your heart. It’s full of humor, mystery, faith, friendship, and a bit of romance. I love the tails of the purring cats in this story and all the other books in this series.

My favorite quote is
"Go on, Lizzie, before you make us think you don't trust us!" Eliza King added with a smile to let Lizzie know she was joking. After a moment Lizzie smiled tremulously at her two best friends and hurried forward to give her bestie since childhood a strong hug, followed by a hug for Eliza. I know you'll do fine. I recommend this book. Plain Jane's Secret Admirer by Anne Blackburne is a 5 -star book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Anne Blackburne. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions shared here in this review are my own.
Jane and Samuel both have secrets that could keep them from discovering a love that is right in front of them. They’ve both admired each other from childhood, but a cruel nickname has kept them apart. Until they find the courage within themselves, they could miss out on their dreams coming true for family & love.
Anne Blackburne has woven a gentle love story full of faith and overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds. I love the strong friendships both Jane & Samuel have with all the secondary characters in this story, and enjoyed everything about this tender love story that made me root for love to prevail in the end. There were times of mishaps, laughter, tender feelings, witty banter between the characters and maybe a bit of matchmaking too! And Jane’s cat Secret and her friend Little Mouse are the cutest additions to this already wonderful story.
I enjoyed everything about this gentle love story that touches on the bond of lifelong friendships, discovering our own voice in the world, and a strong reliance on God through faith in Him. Amish fiction is one of my favorite genres because I get a glimpse of a simpler lifestyle & a refreshing faith thread. Anne Blackburne is new-to-me and I’ll be looking forward to more stories by this talented writer!

PLAIN JANE'S SECRET ADMIRER (THE HEART OF THE AMISH) By Anne Blackburne
Jane Bontrager's good friend Lizzie has recently married. The newlyweds are taking a wedding trip and leaving the running of Lizzie's bakery to Jane and another friend, Eliza King. Jane and Eliza have every confidence that they can keep the bakery going strong for Lizzie.
Jane is a shy woman, who is a caring and hard working person. She has always had a crush on Samuel Mast.
Samuel Mast is a shy buggy maker. He secretly harbor's an immense crush on Jane. The two of them each have such a problem with being super shy, they simply need to figure out how to act on their crushes.
Quote from the book that I like: The cats woke me with the zoomies.
I have known people who are super shy, it makes you wonder how they manage to get on in life with their shyness being such a gigantic issue.
This is a delightful story, filled with the ups and downs of negotiating busy Amish lives. Highly recommend.

Plain Jane's Secret Admirer, by Anne Blackburne, is the eleventh book in the Heart of the Amish Series by Barbour Publishing. This is a nicely written story that is easy to read and imagine. Jane and her friends are taking care of Lizzie's bakery while she is on her honeymoon trip. Interesting things happen that keep the story moving along nicely and add mystery to the story.
This is an enjoyable story to read. The story contains several cats that keep the girls active. Two of the cats turn the water on and cause a flood in the apartments above the bakery, then they go missing. Jane's friends adopt cats that just do not settle down and leave the friends tired, exhausted and wondering what is happening. Meanwhile Jane is receiving anonymous letters and gift from a secret admirer. When Jane finds out the secret Samual has been keeping for years, she must decide what direction their friendship will take. I enjoyed the different relationships that develop in this story. I especially enjoy the theme of forgiveness that is woven throughout the story. I like how attentive Samual and his friend are to the needs of the girls and how they are there to help them.
I voluntarily received a complimentary copy of this story, this is my honest review.
Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer is a wonderful Amish fiction novel and part of a great series that you are going to love! Kitties are a bonus! I love kitties; they’re so soft and cuddly, and I agree with Jane that they are great confidantes, as they can’t tell what they hear.
I love this story of Jane and Samuel Mast. You see, they each secretly like each other. But they’re both too shy to do anything about it. Jane has the nickname Plain Jane and has had it since she was a child. She doesn’t like it and wishes she didn’t have it. Samuel has a secret. He’s the one who gave her the nickname! How can he tell her that? He wants to earn her love, not make her hate him!
You’ll love the antics as the two flirt around, liking each other and how they finally are able to overcome their shyness and let the other know. Plus, there’s plenty of kitties in the book to make you long for a purring one of your own.

Written By Anne Blackburne, Plain Jane's Secret Admirer was the absolute sweetest.
What did I like most about it? The writing was one of the best parts. The author has a talent for creating characters that stick with you long after you turn the final page. The events in the story unfold in a way that feels just so right and keep you turning the pages and rooting for the characters. That's what makes a great story.
Shy and quiet Jane Bontrager is the Beth March of the story. (Yes, of course I have to reference Little Women!) Ever since being teased as a child and being called the childish nickname Plaine Jane as a joke about her culture, she has always felt self-conscious. After all- she's a young woman who's trying to find her way, but when you add a hurtful nickname to the mix, things spiral quickly.
To make matters worse, her shyness is keeping her from speaking to her long-time crush, Samuel. In her mind it's easier to become an old maid and never marry than to voice her feelings aloud to him.
However, after she starts receiving thoughtful gifts from a secret admirer, is there a possibility that someone else has set their sights on her?
Like I said before, the writing is amazing. The author's ability to create these relatable characters and interactions is something that stood out to me.
The emotional depth of Plain Jane's Secret Admirer is one of the things I enjoyed the most. The art of storytelling can express so many things in a variety of ways and that's something I thought this book performed really well.
Such a sweet heartwarming, clean Amish romance. Sam starts leaving secret admirer gifts for Jane and she is left guessing who it is. Jane feels that she is living up to her childhood nickname Plain Jane because no one shows an interest in her even though she always liked Sam, but never acted on her feelings. The story comes complete with kittens who unknowingly help Sam by becoming little matchmakers themselves. The kittens hit the plug and handle on the tub that caused the tub to fill up and overflow with water and leak through the ceiling downstairs into the bakery which caused a huge disaster. Sam volunteers to repair the damage in hoping that he can relieve some of his guilt over the nickname that he gave Jane when they were younger and reveal that he likes her. Will Sam be able to reveal he is the secret admirer to Jane or will someone else step in and take credit for it? Find out the answers to these questions and more by getting this book. I highly recommend it because the author does an amazing job in keeping your interest to see how this story plays out. I was given a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher. All words are my own.
PLAIN JANE’S SECRET ADMIRER by Anne Blackburne is a delightful addition to a series I always look forward to reading. This story captures everything I love about Amish romance—faith, hope, gentle humor, and the promise of love blooming in unexpected ways.
Jane Bontrager is a relatable and endearing heroine. Her quiet strength and vulnerability make her easy to root for. Samuel Mast, the shy buggy maker with secrets of his own, is the perfect match for her—kind, thoughtful, and just as unsure of how to express his feelings. Watching their tender connection unfold was both touching and satisfying.
Anne Blackburne weaves in just the right touch of mystery to keep the story engaging while maintaining the wholesome, heartwarming tone that makes this series so special. It’s a story about love, self-worth, and trusting that God’s plan often brings people together in the sweetest ways.
A charming, faith-filled romance that leaves you smiling, I’m giving it the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!

I enjoyed the author’s writing style. I was immediately interested in the story and found it easy to follow. Characters are relatable and lovable. The cats in the story are mischievous and provide some chuckles. The bakery scenes are authentic and extremely well written. I could almost smell the Amish Cinnamon Rolls and fresh coffee.
There are some twists and turns, mystery, danger, and Christian lessons. I love the way the Amish help each other and forgive. Those are lessons for everyone. I highly recommend this lovely book. It gets a 5 star rating from me. A copy was provided by Celebrate Lit, but these are my honest words.
Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer is part of the Heart of the Amish series. Each of them can be read as standalones, as can this one. However, author Anne Blackburne has been writing about the same people in the same town, so you may want to read her others first. Plain Jane will make more sense if you do and they’re really good.
In this story, we see Jane once again, and Samuel. Both have secrets that shame them. And the secrets are connected. Can they be brought to light and resolved?
Blackburne likes to write about cats, so we meet kitties from the other stories. But this time Little Mouse comes up missing, which causes Jane a lot of angst since she was kitty sitting. We also find out that Jane has a secret admirer. Or two. Is Samuel one? And can he ever let Jane know how he feels?
A story of forgiveness and inner healing, Plain Jane’s Secret Admirer will give you everything you love in an Amish story. I highly recommend it!
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review. All thoughts are my own.
This is a fun read. Not so serious and not too mysterious. Jane has a serious dislike for her childhood nickname, Plain Jane. Funny how those childhood "issues" can carry right into adulthood and sometimes create a "silly" standoffishness that seems like shyness but is in reality a lack of self worth. Well, this seems to be Jane's problem. And then Jane meets Samuel Mast. OOOH LAAA LAAA! Jane feels like she has more than a crush doe Samuel. But poor Samuel has a couple of "secrets" that make him seem shy when in reality he too is struggling with an issue that may or may not be serious in a relationship. A little mystery here. I enjoyed this story. It's full of honest to goodness love and kindness. Also, Jane and Samuel both long to have a good relationship. With Valentine's Day just around the corner this makes a great gift. Don't miss this for loving, all about Amish life with a hint of mystery and romance.
This book was a sweet addition to the series and could be easily read as a stand-alone. When Sam was a teen, he gave Jane a nickname, unknown to her. The nickname spread and Jane was strapped with a nickname that she totally hated. As the years passed she still had no idea where that name came from. But the culprit felt full of guilt and was not able to apologize to her out of fear of how she would react. Because now he was very attracted to her and was trying to win her heart. It is a cute story that has a side plot revolving on a missing cat. Sam is a rather shy guy, and despite his friend’s advice, he just doesn't seem to know how to admit his fault so that he can move past it. I enjoyed the story but it was a little slow moving at times. Other than that, it was a nice and clean read. I received an ARC copy from Barbour Publishing. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Childish shenanigans lead to misunderstandings and hurt feelings over a period of ten years. Jane has been given a hurtful nickname by Samuel when he was fourteen and trying to hide his true feelings from his fellow male students. How will they resolve this as adults, or do they? Lizzie owns a bakery that she leaves in the hands of Jane and Eliza while she’s on her wedding trip. Lizzie and Jane both have beloved cats that accidentally get out when the door is left ajar. Lots of anxiety and fear happen while they are in charge. I felt for Jane and Sam(uel), both caring about each other but too shy to acknowledge their feelings. Also my “diet” did not do well while reading about all the delicious offerings in the bakery! Even among all the troubles that seemed unsurmountable, I was very happy with the ending. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher through Celebrate Lit but was not required to write a review.
Another good book in the Heart of the Amish series. I really enjoyed reading this one. There is a lot going on that will keep you interested.
Lizzie and John leave town after the wedding to visit family and leave Jane and Eliza to run the Plan Beignet bakery. While they are gone a lot transpires that eventually is wrapped around some hidden secrets.
The circumstances around Jane's secret admirer have her wondering, when gifts and notes start arriving. There are emotion's being tested and possible romances brewing. But things don't go as planned. There are a lot of surprises I didn't see coming.
The setting of the Amish community came alive as I read and the characters have plenty of layers. I loved the ending which wrapped everything up nicely. Highly recommended.
I received an ARC via Netgalley; a positive review is not required. All opinions are my own.
Jane Bontrager has struggled for years with a nickname of "Plain Jane." Even as an adult, the memories still sting. After her friend & owner of the Plain Beignet bakery goes on a two week honeymoon with Jane in charge, a series of events seem to reinforce that these happenings are all connected to her plain Jane image, even though she is the only one who sees herself that way. While in charge of the bakery, Jane finds she has a secret admirer, difficulties with a new stranger in town, & the bakery owners cat goes missing while in her care, not to mention the mystery of the colorful eggs in a wooden bowl. Throw in a leaky ceiling & this book is a wonderful read! The characters are easy to relate to, the storyline is just wonderful. I was given a complimentary copy of this book by Barbour Publishing & was under no obligation to post a review.
