There it was, between The Greengrocer's and The Underwear Outfitters.
The Cheese Shop.
It was stuffed full of cheese stinkier than old socks.
And Daddypops said just what I knew he was going to...
"We are about to carry out the World-Famous Cheese Shop Break-In."
Daddypops says it will be as easy as 123 to get into the Cheese Shop... First he tells his children to just walk through the door and get the cheese... But THAT doesn't work. Then he makes a catapult and fires them into the shop... THAT doesn't work either. Finally Daddypops has his most brilliant idea ever. He gets a pickaxe, a shovel and a bucket and tells the children what to do. They will dig a tunnel to the Cheese Shop, and break through to the shop floor at dead of night. What could go wrong?
Sean Taylor started writing poetry as a teenager. In 1993, he came across a newspaper article which reported that a goat slaughtered in Iran had been found to have teeth made of gold. He tried writing a story for children. It was called 'The Goat with the Golden Teeth' and it won second prize in a competition run by the British newspaper 'The Independent' and Scholastic Children's Books. Since then, Sean has focussed on writing for children and has published over forty books for young readers of different ages. As well as writing, he has many years’ experience visiting schools, where he works with poetry and storytelling to encourage young people to write themselves. He lives partly in England (where he was born) and partly in Brazil( where his wife is from.)
Miss 4 and I like to explore different books and authors at the library, sometimes around particular topics or themes. We try to get different ones out every week or so; it's fun for both of us to have the variety and to look at a mix of new & favourite authors.

Daddypops has one goal in mind: he was going to carry out the World-Famous Cheese Shop Break-In! He loved the smell of cheese that is stinkier than old socks! His first idea is to simply walk into the front door and steal the cheese. That did not work. He then tried to make a catapult to fire himself through the window. But that didn’t work either. Perhaps they could dig a tunnel and break into the cheese shop from underground? After much trial and error they finally broke through the floorboard of what they thought was the cheese shop, only find that it was she shop next door, the Underwear Boutique! All around were pants and bras and socks… and Daddypops realized that people were willing to pay a lot of money for these items. The idea then came to him to open up a shop called, “Fancy Pants for Rats”. The shop was a big success and Daddypops made enough money to buy all the stinky cheese he desired.
We enjoyed this cute story. The illustrations could carry the book alone. There are fun little details on every page. The story is new and exciting.
Its just weird. I don't know how else to describe it. I think a child wrote this because the whole thing is all over the place. Read it once and then forgot it. My son didn't even care for it the first time around. Just strange.
It's no surprise that rats love cheese, and this picture book from Great Britain follows the efforts of one rat family to have all the cheese they could ever want. After all, there's a cheese shop just across the street. The father rat comes up with all sorts of outlandish ideas, but none of them work. Finally, he enlists the children's help in digging an underground tunnel that will lead to the shop. But when even that idea fails, he decides to find another, more lucrative way to pay for the rats' cheese. The colorful illustrations are filled with nifty details about the rats' world, and even the end papers feature different types of cheeses. The first end papers show the cheese samples on display on cutting boards or plates while the last ones bear evidence of a visit from some rats since almost all the cheese is now gone. There is plenty to make readers smile in this book, including poor Daddypops' misguided efforts and the images of the rats wearing or toting off shopping bags of underwear. This one would be a fun read aloud for youngsters to enjoy.
Daddypops has some ideas about how to get stinky cheese from the cheese shop. Unfortunately, his ideas don’t usually work. Walking in and acting casual was not so easy for a family of rats. The catapult didn’t work, and neither did robbing the cheese van or hiding out in the cheese factory. The only idea that seemed to have any merit at all was digging a tunnel into the cheese shop, at least digging was something rats were good at. But after digging all night, being scared by the worms underground, moving heavy stones, and hitting a water pipe, the rats finally surfaced… in the underwear shop next door to the cheese shop! But that didn’t stop Daddypops, as a matter of fact it gave him another idea… Daddypops opened up an underwear shop for rodents. He made so much money in his shop, that they could afford to buy all the stinky cheese they wanted. http://julianaleewriter.com/books-ali...
Such a cute story! Such a cute story. The poor rats just could not make it to the cheese shop. My Jacks listened to the story over and over again. I am the type of person to put emphasis on certain parts and try to bring the story alive. It is very easy to do with this story!
We love it! It is very easy to read, using words toddlers and young children can understand. With colorful graphics to keep them entertained while you are reading. I received a copy for review purposes. All opinions are my own.
