Herman Zimmerman, a jewish survivor of the Holocaust, remembers walking through the streets of Köln at age 12, clutching his father's hand as the crowd around them hailed Hitler. Soon after, his family was on the run with nothing but a few bundles and no place to go. Always one step ahead of the advancing Germans, splitting up along the way, they made their way across Holland, Belgium and France to final safety in Switzerland. Without rancor or recriminations, but with compassion and humor, Herman Zimmerman describes the daily life of a family of fugitives in cataclysmic times.

For a work of non fiction (can i call it non fiction? Eeeeeek fiction? NO. It was written as a non fiction, i shall stick to that) this was incredibly well written. I hate that i couldn't swallow it. If you havent read the blurb, this is a collection of stories which involve the dead/guardian angels. As much as i wish i could believe it all, some (ok maybe most) of these small tales seem too far fetched.
I will appreciate that this was incredibly well written and that this book has clearly helped MANY come to terms with the death of a loved one; which is a beautiful and inspirational thing!
I would suggest this to someone who is more open minded, and have indeed passed it onto my boyfriends mum who i know will take comfort from this.
As one reader reviewed(tongue in cheek) part fiction part non fiction I think I agree. Although I enjoyed parts of this there was a lot of repeating of parts and lots of parts I just skipped altogether and some bits I really enjoyed. Easy light reading
What can i say about this book. All i can say is that it is a very moving book about other peoples stories about their guardian angels i know some people don't beleive in this kind of stuff but i think you would after you read this. Take this story the car that mysteriously carried into the air saving two girls from a fatal accident and here is another story the woman who got a call from her father on her mobile phone after he died. and here is another one the spirits who set the clock on a a pesons time to go and the animal angels that save their owners lives you will have to read it to find the rest out.
The book is a good reminder to ask for help because I think we forget to do that sometimes, whether you believe it's your angels, the universe or for some God. I was left wondering as always why everybody isn't saved that do ask for help for example in holocausts. The book also discusses cold energies which I think, most of us have felt at some stage. The book is thought provoking ? ,,
I love Jacky Newcomb and her books I lost my mum a few years ago and these books give me hope and peace I'm a huge fan of angels and the afterlife thank you Jacky your inspirational xx
