When Ruby Raccoon wakes up to a day filled with sunshine and birdsong, she decides it's going to be a perfect day. A perfect day for a big breakfast, a game of checkers, and even a roll down the hill. Ruby invites her friends along, but each is too busy to join her. Can this be a perfect day if Ruby is alone? First introduced in Ruby Bakes a Cake and also the star of Ruby Paints a Picture , Ruby Raccoon is as irrepressible as ever in this cheerful story about the pleasure of your own company.
All of the I Can Read! books about Ruby, published by Zonderkids, are wonderful books for children learning to read. Not only do they help kids at a beginning reading level, but they teach wonderful biblical truth at the same time. I give 5 stars to Ruby's Perfect Day, Ruby Bakes A Cake, and Ruby Paints A Picture because of the strong biblical message and emphasis they have along with being wholesome stories for my Kindergarten and First Grade children to read. These books prove that even simple I Can Read! books can have a powerful impact on a child's development.

Ruby invites her friends to eat breakfast with her, play checkers and roll down the hill but they are all too busy. "That's okay," says Ruby who still finds pleasure and entertainment in doing the activities by herself. Later, she looks back on her day and sees it was "a perfect day for being all by myself!" A cheerful story about being resourceful when alone.
Grades K-1. Ruby has big plans for the perfect day--making breakfast with a friend, playing checkers, and rolling down her favorite hill. But her friends are busy. Can she still have a perfect day? Yes! Adorable illustrations make this a very accessible book for beginning readers.
This was a sweet book to teach children that it's okay if people are busy that doesn't mean that they don't like you or anything but that they are simply busy. But you can still have fun and enjoy just being by yourself.
