Given another chance at love.

Great dual pov story of Jacob and Becca. They both had a history and now he has been given a second chance with her since he is now her son's new hockey goalie coach. She never forgot him and it seems he never forgot her either. Great book 1 in the Love in Overtime - The Bennett's series.

Sweet romance 🥰

This later in life romance resonated with me ♥️….could be because I am in the later in life stage with 4 adult children 😍. This second chance romance was short and sweet but still had romance, angst, 3 overprotective sons and brother. It had the hockey element, a widow who finds love with her high school sweetheart and also a foreshadowing of young love. I listened to the dual narration on the author’s YouTube channel and really enjoyed it….and it was free! Highly recommend this sweet and clean romance 💘

This is how a novella should be done: wauw! I did not expect to like it as much as I did, neither did I expect for it to have so much packed into the story. I often don’t like the pacing in novellas because it’s all insta love and no background but here there’s a great balance! I loved the MCs, their mutual history and definitely rooted for their second chance! I also really loved the bond between the FMC and her sons: so beautiful how they are protective of her! I can’t wait for the rest of the series!

I love that we get another taste of Scarlett and Steven. And those bonus chapters. Wow!! So adorable!! 

Jacob and Becca are super amazing on their own. I love how connected this is to the Accidentally series and also. Cannot wait until we see more from Scarlett and Steven!!

I love stories set in small towns; there’s just something special about small towns. Everybody knows just about everybody else, Friday Night Football games are crowded with fans, everybody comes to the parade, the carnival and everything else that happens. Neighbors look out for each other and are there when something happens. You don’t even have to ask, they just show up. Abby Greyson is one of those authors that I refer to as a storyteller, a teller of stories. In my opinion, a storyteller is so much more than an author. They draw you in with their words and paint pictures in your mind of what they are writing about. I can pick out the people I would like to play those parts if the book was made into a movie.
Jack and Becca have a past together, although it was many years ago before he left to pursue a career playing hockey. He hasn’t talked to her in a long time. Jack gets a call while he’s working on his car, he pulls it out of his pocket. He smiles when he sees who called…” Duncan ‘The Denier’ James.” His old hockey teammate. It’s been years since he’s seen or heard from him. He left a message, well sort of…” Call me.”
Jack calls him up and Duncan answers but asks for a minute to get to his car. He doesn’t want anyone to hear their conversation. Duncan coaches the Maple Ridge High School hockey team and has a player that could use Jack’s help. Jack starts to tell him he wasn’t playing hockey anymore, but Duncan already knows that. Jack is not only no longer playing hockey, but he hasn’t been on the ice since he was carried off the ice. Duncan doesn’t need him on the ice; he wants him to work on “fine-tuning. Drills. That type of thing.” Duncan believes this player could go pro, but he needs to fine tune his skills. Jack knows he could run the drills and help this kid, but he is not so sure he would be of any help. Jack doesn’t know if he’s ready to return to being part of hockey. Duncan comes in with his last plea. He tells Jack that the kid’s dad passed away last year and always wanted his son to make the pros. This player is talented and needs some “tweaking.” Duncan continues talking, but Jack’s thoughts are on someone else. “The face of the girl I left behind with promise of a call that never happened. Becca.” Becca is the mother of this player. “And the reason I haven’t been back to Maple Ridge since I left twenty-plus years ago.”
Now, I don’t want to reveal too much of this wonderfully written story and spoil it for you. Just trust me when I say you need to get this book! Will Jack return to his hometown and help Becca’s son? How will Becca feel when she finds out it’s Jack that will be working with her son? How will everyone feel about Jack being back in town after all these years? How will Becca’s sons (yes, sons…more than one) feel about Jack working with their brother? You know boys can be fiercely protective of their moms! A wonderful, new book from Abby Greyson has arrived! The first in the Love in Overtime: The Bennett’s, Love Beyond the Game provides wonderful storytelling, fantastic romance, and heartfelt moments that make you swoon. Add in the MCs being later in life, I knew I would love this book and I was right. Abby has a way of pulling me into every story, making me feel a part of it. She captures everything perfectly in her stories to make them more than just words on a page. She easily brings her stories to life.

Many years ago Jack left his small town for bigger pastures. Ok, bigger ice rinks is more like it as his dreams involve playing hockey professionally. But as he chased his dreams, he left behind someone who thought she was his biggest dream. When a former teammate calls him for help with the high school team he coaches, Jack isn’t sure if returning home is a good idea. His teammate knows how to tug at his heartstrings though and he agrees. Besides helping a high school kid reach his potential and maybe go pro may help heal that bit of his heart that was left on the ice the last time he was carried off. The one thing his former teammate doesn’t tell him? The kid who needs fine tuning just happens to be the son of the girl he walked way from all those years ago.

Becca may have moved on after Jake left, but she never forgot him. When her son’s hockey coach tells them he has a former pro coming to work with them, she never imagined it would be Jake. Nor did she think he would still have the effect on her that he does. Still incredibly handsome too. She isn’t sure about this though and doesn’t want to be hurt again or have her son get hurt. Having lost her husband and raising their sons on her own, she doesn’t even know if she wants to date yet. Yet, the more time they spend together the harder it is to ignore that past feelings are definitely still there in the present.

My hopeless romantic heart was doing backflips while reading this story! I couldn’t get enough of Jack and Becca getting their second chance. As they get to know each other again, it is evident that their chemistry is electric. Abby never fails to make me smile as I read about her characters finding love; in this case, finding love again. Everything about this book left my heart feeling full and happy. Abby never fails to deliver amazing stories!

Love an Abby Greyson book . Everything she writes is a delight . This book is no exception it’s really entertaining and beyond beautifully written . Yep as always I was smitten . The one that got away and then some . Plus she’s always found him extremely handsome . Now years have passed and together at last …Well in the capacity of him being her son Steven’s coach, Jacob but he does approach her and breaks down what he’s found to work on. She feels her heart flutter ,skip a beat and her toes curl with the heat like butter she’s undone. She met and married Caleb ,her brother John’s other friend after he went away and never called, but Jacob still held a piece of her heart even so and why she needed to keep them apart. “Uncle John’s friend…Jake.”“Are you telling me J.T. ‘The Jet’ Thornton is helping my gremlin of a little brother? Okay, that just isn’t fair. Why does he get to have all the fun?” Steven is her youngest ,and the others profess that Jacob/Jake/J.T. Is their dad’s favourite player and it’s so not fair that they can’t share … if they only knew that she too would like a piece of Jacob pie . She thinks with a sigh. This is a mighty heartwarming story of second chances . He was a player of the highest calibre but an accident put paid to him icing again. A career ending injury. This to Duncan their friend was no hurdle in showing young Steven the ropes . High hopes indeed for the boy and he is his mum’s pride and joy ,the same as her other sons ,who are all the best in their given sports . Goalies are a breed of their own, it takes all sorts and it’s his skills that they want Steven to hone . Hold the phone though because Becca isn’t the only one who recalls how they were together and he regrets not calling but once when he came a calling on a trip home ,she was happy with Caleb so he left well alone. Do they get their second chance of live this time around? Love Beyond the Game is a splendid story full of hope and is so endearing ,some of their interactions had me tearing as well as cheering for them too. Abby Greyson ,you know I love everything you do with your storytelling and it’s mightily compelling indeed .

I'm back with another wonderfully cute book by the talented @ This story is a special treat because not only do we get a cute second chance novella we also get a big glimpse at Scarlett (from previous stories) and Steven while it happens. This small town novella was really well paced with if it's meant to be it will vibes.

I am so grateful to be on her permanent team because I love everything and anything she writes. This short story was absolutely perfect and I cant wait to get more! It can absolutely be read as a standalone but the easter eggs are more fun after reading the other books in her sports series.

He fell for his best friend's little sister but left her behind and is too afraid to go back.
He played professional Hockey with Ducan (Accidentally Checked) but that all came to an end after a bad injury. Years later he finds himself getting a second chance with the women he loved. I love how patient he is and how he wants to make sure it's what she wants. He respected her sons and her late husband. He was so considerate throughout the whole book, even in moments he could have been ferious with his best friend. He just stayed kind.

Becca
Single mom to Steven (he's been mentioned in previous books). Her husband died recently and she's left running their coffee shop alone. Her brother visits often and helps her with her son but she can't help but still feel alone she's a kind and understanding person even when someone broke her heart years ago b

I seriously loved how this story was a right person but wrong time themed story. Both went and had a successful life on their own and when it was the right time they came together in the best possible way. Her boys being so protective of her even when it was their idol they were standing up to was so cute. Her brother did annoy me a bit and I'm a little sad he never got yelled at by his sister for meddling. It all worked out in the end and I loved every second of it.

You guys really need to stop dissing my pinneapple on pizzas though haha. This is a great novella and is perfect for your yearly goals 😉

Over two decades ago, Jacob was drafted to play on the Florida Panthers’ hockey team. He left behind his girlfriend, Becca, telling her he’d call her as soon as he got settled. But he never called.

Now Jacob is back in Maple Ridge, coaching Becca’s youngest son, Steven. Becca’s already had enough loss. She had moved on and married Caleb, who she then lost about a year ago. She’s not sure at first how she feels about Jacob being back, and coaching her son. And she never told Caleb that she’d been in love with Jacob, as Caleb was a huge fan of him, and she didn’t want to do anything to tarnish her husband’s opinion.

Jake is also uncertain how he feels about being back in Maple Ridge, at first. But it’s not long before he realizes that he truly is home.

I put it to you that it feels like home because Becca is there. Home is not a place, it’s a person. And Becca was always his person. We do find out the reason he never called, but I won’t spoil that here.

I do love romances about people who are older. Why should the twenty- and thirty-somethings have all the fun? Besides, people my age—yes, I’m middle aged—don’t waste time. I’m a big proponent of telling people how you feel about them, because you never know when it might be too late.

Though hockey is the catalyst for bringing Jacob back into orbit around Becca, it’s not the driving force of the story. No, that rests with the characters, especially Becca’s brother John, and her sons, Wyatt, Miles, and Steven. They’re going to make sure that Jacob doesn’t hurt her again.

There’s a sweet and happy ending, and also a bit of a new beginning, as perhaps Steven might be getting his own book? I certainly would welcome that.

Love is love, no matter what age you are. It seems so urgent when we’re young. And it’s even more beautiful as you get older, as each experience brings wisdom and context. Thankfully, these characters get exactly that, and find that happy ending.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and even though I didn’t have to post a review I wanted to offer my honest, voluntary impression upon finishing it.

I have enjoyed Abby’s stories and it was nice to
see some old friends show up in this one: Duncan and Scarlett for two. It was also nice to see how Scarlett had grown from the earlier books with her in it concerning her father and Cat as well as Duncan and Ava.

In this short story a hockey player who loved a girl left to go to the big leagues but listened to her brother instead of his heart and let her go. Later she married another and some twenty years later is called to help a young man improve his hockey game.
He finds out the young man is his former girlfriend’s youngest son. A myriad of emotions plays through him when he sees her again and now that she is a widow he wonders if maybe it’s not too late to see if they might have the happily ever after he wanted when he left all those years ago!

I enjoyed this story of revisiting in my mind old friends as well as new ones as Becca and Jacob reconnect and try and navigate their past as well as looking towards the future.

I happily recommend this book as one I enjoyed and believe everyone will enjoy as well! In fact, once you’re done you just might want to check out Abby’s sports series to read those books yourself!

These books are sweet, no spice books but they don’t need bedroom scenes to sell their stories for the plot and the characters as well as the feeling you have reading them does that just fine! You get caught up in the story and don’t want to let it go but just keep reading to the end wanting it to continue even when you reach the final page!

I truly believe you’ll love this book as much as I did!

I was excited to read this novella, as an introduction to the new series from this author. I have enjoyed her previous books so I am looking forward to meeting the Bennetts. It does tie in with the previous books I’ve read, same town, some familiar faces, but this is a new family.

This novella kicks off the series with mom, Becca Bennett. She is widowed, having lost her husband to cancer and raising three wonderful boys, Wyatt, Miles and Steven. Steven is a hockey player and needing some extra coaching to help him get drafted. His coach calls his old friend, ex hockey player Jacob “JT” Thornton, aka The Jet. He also happens to be Becca’s first love, until he broke her heart when he himself got called up and never contacted her.

I loved seeing the reactions between the two of them when they reunited. There was obviously a lot of feelings still there, but with a lot to overcome. Jacob never stopped loving Becca, he was young and took bad advice so lost her but regretted it. Becca was wrestling between the love for her deceased husband and her feelings she always had for Jacob.

My favourite part were the reactions of her three sons. They were so protective of their mother and really gave Jacob a hard time, well mainly the older two as Steven was getting coached by him. It was nice to see them all stand up to someone they previously idolised, their mom was their first priority and rightly so. I liked seeing Jacob convince them of his true intentions.

This best friend’s sister romance turned out to be a really enjoyable small-town read. It fully leans into the rom-com vibe, and it works very well because of that. The story is funny, light, and overall quite clean, making it an easy and comforting book to pick up.
The plot is well paced and keeps things moving without unnecessary drama. What I especially liked is that the humor doesn’t overpower the romance—it complements it nicely. There are plenty of charming moments, but the story still gives the relationship space to grow naturally.
The characters themselves are well developed and likable, which makes the romance easy to root for. Their interactions feel natural, and the small-town setting adds a cozy backdrop that fits the tone of the story perfectly.
Overall, this is a solid feel-good romance. If you’re looking for a fun, lighthearted small-town rom-com with a best friend’s sister trope that’s handled well, this book is definitely worth picking up.

💕 Becca and Jacob's Second Chance . . .

This is a well written story of high school first love that is lost when Jacob goes off to a successful hockey career. By the time he comes back 5 years later, he finds his best friend John Ashford’s sister Becca is happily married to someone else. Eventually he once more comes home years later, having been asked by hockey coach Duncan to take a temporary coaching position to help improve Steven Bennett who has a real chance to turn pro with a little "fine-tuning" Duncan can't provide. He is told that Becca Bennett is now a widow with 3 protective and loving sons. Is there still a spark between the two of them? Will her boys let him get close enough to their mom to rekindle their love? And will they get that second chance to finally be together? You won't want to miss this story that may very well leave the reader in tears, so grab your copy and find out why!

This was a sweet second-chance romance. Sometimes things don’t work out the way people hoped they would, when they were younger. It doesn't make it bad, necessarily; it just leaves them questioning and unsure, especially if they had made plans with someone they loved. In this case, you had Jacob and Becca who had just declared their love to one another knowing he was leaving for the NHL. They had dated for years, so it was no surprise that this was where their relationship was heading.

Jacob loved seeing Becca and his mom in the bleachers watching him day after day. On the day he was leaving, he promised he would call her however her brother who was taking him to the airport asked something else. See what this one discussion did to them both and if they could have changed the outcome. Would they have, knowing what they know now? But, for her brother John to act like all these years later he would have any say is beyond me. Read and see how Jacob and Becca handle it.

Abby knows how ro write a great sports romance. This one brings Jake and Becs back together after years of being apart. Becs was Jake's one and only love, but being drafted into the NHL had him choosing between his love or the sport he loves. It didn’t help that Becs brother and Jake's BFF interfered by advising Jake to let her go. Years later they reunite. Becs a widow with three grown sons and Jake single. The rest is history. I loved how Becs boys were so protective of her. The third degree the boys gave Jake was hilarious!. I loved how Abby included a bit of Steven and Scarlett’s story. It left me wanting more and hoping that Abby writes their story and happily ever after. This is one of the best second chance sports romance book I've read this year. It is sweet, funny, has great characters, and surrounds the love of family and community.

LOVE BEYOND THE GAME by Abby Greyson is a heartwarming, second chance, hockey RomCom with witty banter, great chemistry, protective sons, and a MMC who is sooo sweet!!

I was sooo touched by how he demonstrated his selfless love — by putting the MFC’s happiness before his own, his willingness to help her son even if it cost him, putting himself out there by being open about his feelings, and his willingness to be open and vulnerable in front of her family! I shed a few tears!!
Abby Greyson knows how to write Sweet and Swoony stories that touch your heart and stay with you long after you turn the last page!!
I would wholeheartedly recommend!! ❣️❣️

I liked this book, but I am puzzled about why John is so 'stay away from my sister' when Jake is supposedly his best friend. If he was such a bad guy, why was he friends with him at all, let alone best friends! I could understand maybe if they were teenagers, but they're like forties now! He can't blame Jake for not calling Becca after he left for the NHL because *he* was the one who told him he shouldn't. I liked how her sons seem to be more watchful than hostile. Not saying 'stay away' but 'you'll regret it if you hurt her.'
I loved seeing grown-up Scarlett. She is just as much fun as ever, and totally 'just friends' with Steven.

This was such a sweet second-chance romance. Becca is now a widow and raising three boys, and her youngest is a super talented hockey player. When her first love, Jacob (now a former pro hockey player), comes back into her life to help coach her son, all those old feelings come rushing back.

Jacob never stopped loving Becca and still regrets not calling her after he got drafted all those years ago, so now he’s hoping for another shot — both with her and at being part of her family. There are lots of cute moments, some emotional ones too, and a nice focus on family and forgiveness. Overall, this was a quick, easy, feel-good read that I really enjoyed.

Love Beyond the Game by Abby Greyson is a look into the future of the characters we know and love.

This takes us far into the future when our loved characters have their own kids all grown up and they are all off to college and getting picked for the National Hockey League. This book discusses a single mom taking a second chance with her high school love. Can she do it? Are her protective sons going to let her do it? The tensions fly, the banter is clear, and the risk is high. This book also sets us up to a future book that I can't wait to see.

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to see love at an advanced age.

Kudos for a relatable romance featuring other characters! Jacob is her brother’s best friend and was her secret crush from decades ago…before Becca’s first marriage, before kids. Now h’s returned to town and is her son’s coach. So much has change, and it’s so sweet how he helps her get another chance at a happily ever after, one that involves him, with the acceptance and approval from her grown children. This was a shorter, closed-door romance that introduces characters to the author’s next series, but the character depth was great and the plot charming.4.25 stars

Is a sweet brother's best friend, later-in-life, second chance, hockey romcom with no cliffhanger.
Some of the lines I really like --- “I’m not sure how much help he’ll be either. But some help is better than none.” --- and she gives me a finger wave. A finger wave? --- Whatever he has to ask me is not as exciting as you getting drafted, I’m sure.” ---

Love Beyond the Game is a later in life second chance romance between Jacob and Becca that completely stole my heart. I adored watching a widowed mom find love again while navigating her fiercely protective sons and the sweetness that came with blending their lives. Jacob is steady and kind. I love seeing them reconnect while he forms heartfelt bonds with her sons. This story is heartfelt, hopeful, and left me smiling with the biggest bookish happy sigh.

I am all about the later in life romances and second chances and hockey…this one did not disappoint. Jacob and Becca were high school sweet hearts prior to him being drafted into the NHL. Now Jacob is back in his home town to help coach Becca’s son for the NHL. My favorite part was Becca’s sons Steven, Miles and Wyatt in the pizza shop with them after one of the practices talking to Jacob giving him the third degree. They were just so protective of mom, it was so sweet.

This is book one in Abby Greyson’s new series Love In Overtime: The Bennett’s. This is a spin off from another series and a novella that can be read in one sitting.

I can’t wait to read more about the Bennett’s.

I enjoyed that this story ties to Abby's Accidentally in Sports series, which I loved and seems to be setting the stage for another (I cannot wait).

In this book, Jacob gets a second chance with his first love after deciding not to call her after making it to the pros and being warned off by her brother. She eventually finds love with someone else and has a family before losing her husband. Jacob comes back to help her son improve his hockey skills and they rekindle their relationship. He is steadfast and earnest. She is willing to open her heart. This story has a lot of heartwarming moments that make you believe in the power of love

Love Beyond the Game is a precious, later-in-life, second chance, hockey, romantic comedy. Becca's three sons , and her brother, were so protective of Becca. I really enjoyed those exchanges. Jacob's was lucky to get a second chance with Becca but I applaud him for never ratting out that her brother was why he ghosted her all those years ago. I love that Jacob came to help even though he knew he would be coaching his former love's youngest son. This is just a super sweet romance with great characters and witty dialogue. I loved every minute of my time with it.

This book is classified as a later in life romcom. It has 14 chapters, an Epilogue, and a bonus chapter.

I have to say that I wonder about the odds of having all three of your children go pro each in a different sport??

Other than that though I found this book to be an enjoyable read. You feel the heartache left from a husband/dad passing away but it isn’t an all encompassing grief in this story, which I appreciate. While it’s still very much a part of the characters lives, it isn’t right in your face the whole time.

Love Beyond The Game is a lovely, sweet mid-life romance by Abby Greyson. This novella has just enough tension. This second chance romance has high school sweethearts reunited after many years. Jake returns to his hometown to help coach a high school rising hockey player. The son of his best friend’s sister and former girlfriend, Jake, feels that Becca is off limits now. I appreciated that Becca’s husband had been a great guy, and her three sons were also great men. A sports romance that focuses on family, relationships and community. A delightful afternoon read from beginning to end.
