Raven's Song: Dragonis Academy Year One

Rate this book
What happens when your mother is the Queen of the Marzana Empire and your father is a legendary war drake? Simple—everyone expects the world of you.

Raven thought she could blend into the background at Dragonis Academy, living the "normal life" her royal parents desperately wanted for her. But normal doesn't exist when you're dragon royalty at a school where shifters train for war, and ancient feuds simmer beneath polished academy halls.

When a long-dormant enemy resurfaces and kidnaps her sister, Raven's carefully hidden power explodes into the open. No one threatens her family and lives to tell about it. But unleashing her true strength means painting a target on her back—and everyone she cares about.

Between navigating deadly trials that could kill her before breakfast, discovering her destined mates among the academy's most dangerous students, and uncovering a brewing war that threatens everything she holds dear, Raven faces an impossible stay hidden and lose everything, or embrace her birthright and burn down anyone who stands in her way.

✨ ARC REVIEW ✨
I loved Raven just as much as I loved her mom, Mina—and that’s saying something. Raven is softer, and unapologetically so, and I adored seeing that kind of strength shine. In so many second-gen stories it’s hard to tell mother and daughter apart, but Raven is entirely her own person.
Her mates? Loved them. The diversity of her nest added so much depth, and I especially adored that the parents are still present and active in the story. It made the world feel full and alive.
I can’t wait for the next book.

Raven’s Song is the 1st book in the 2nd Generation of Dragonis Academy by Serenity Rayne.

I loved Mina in the 1st generation of Dragonis Academy. I fell in love with her and all her mates and I couldn’t get enough of them. And then when I learned that we got a 2nd generation that focused on Mina and her mate’s kids, well I knew without a doubt that I was all in.

Now that I’ve read Raven’s Song and loved it, I can’t help but question what’s left for Mina’s other kids? I feel like Raven possessed everything the imagination could come up with, and while this makes her a intimidating dragoness, one who is far superior to even her own mother who was the GOAT during her own generation. I love Raven; even when she was just a hatchling you could see that she had a super protective streak in her the way she protected her siblings. And boy did Mina give birth to A LOT of hatchlings; all who have their own unique powers and abilities that I can’t wait to learn about. But it’s obvious that Raven’s powers and abilities far outmaneuver them all. That said, I still can’t wait to see what abilities and powers Serenity gives to Raven’s siblings. I am sure they are all going to be outstanding.

Ravens found that she’s got the entire dragon world suddenly forced upon her shoulders; she never asked for nor did she want this responsibility. But the moment her power and abilities began to surmount those of her own mother in terms of who the more powerful and dominant dragoness is; Raven and her entire family is forced to come to the realization that Raven truly is the REAL rainmaker of the entire nest and they all know that with great power and ability comes the greatest responsibility.

As Raven’s power and abilities are growing faster than she expected and faster than she is able to keep up with, she is a bit terrified. Thankfully, she’s quickly able to find 3 out of her 5 mates as Mina saw them in a vision and that helped Raven greatly. Raven is also lucky that these mates understand their role right away and they are willing to do what ever they need to and what ever is necessary to help Raven, and this includes by any means necessary.

I loved getting to meet Raven’s mates Corvis, Keir and Hemlocke. And we know that Raven does have the cursed egg that she’s currently bonding with just like her sister Lily.

One of the things that I really loved is that Serenity gave both Raven and her sister Lily cursed eggs at the same time giving the sisters something to bond over together. I also loved watching the two sisters bonding with their cursed eggs and I am so excited to see what happens when each of these ancient dragons emerge.

Raven’s story also gave us a look inside the full family dynamic that Mina and her mates have regarding their children. We have the chance to see that Klauth’s son Allister still doesn’t get it. His siblings ARE NOT his servants and it’s because of the way that he treated his siblings that he lost his right to succession after Klauth. And we do get to see other hatchlings getting up to their own mischief and essentially all acting like peas in a pod.

I loved how we got the chance to see Mina’s terror over the truth that Raven is growing and developing into something new and unknown and the truth of that absolutely terrifies her. And we see how that petrifies Mina and Raven’s nest father as they don’t know how to help Raven.

After having gotten to read this book, we see that it is obvious that Raven’s got this big giant red target now painted on her back that has extended to her family. We all thought that Mina was going to be a problem; well here we are 20 years later and suddenly the dragon world is facing a whole new set of problems and challenges unlike anything they’ve ever seen or faced before.

I really did love the entire family dynamic. I was so warm, inviting and fun. Yet, at the same time there were some – named Abraxis – who remain green with envy that it’s his nest daughter who is surpassing him by leaps and bounds. (Dude, look it’s been 21 years, it’s time to GROW UP.) I am so excited to learning about all the abilities and powers that Raven’s siblings are going to possess and I can’t wait to meet their mates and seeing how they all interact.

Out of all of Raven’s siblings, I have to say that my personal favorite is Orpheus. And this is mainly because he’s the Yin to Raven’s Yang. The two of them are pure chaos and I can’t wait for all of their tomfoolery. But coming in a close second, just by a sliver of a hair is Azalea and Belladonna. I loved the twins who are always up for some funny business.

I can’t wait for the next book in this second generation of Dragonis Academy. I know every book that Serenity Rayne writes is going to be better than the last and is going to be worth the read.

I highly recommend this first book of Dragonis Academy Generation 2 but I also recommend the 1st Generation of Dragonis Academy as well.

Although I'm loving the next generation; I'm wondering what will be left for Mina's other children. It's like Raven possesses everything imaginable making her a formidable dragoness far superior to her own mother who was the GOAT during her own generation. I love Raven; even as a hatchling she was supper protective of her younger and older siblings. Mina gave birth to a lot of hatchlings; all with their own powers and unique abilities but Raven's far surpasses them all. I just wonder, what is left for the rest?

Raven has the entire dragon world thrust upon her shoulders; a responsibility she truly doesn't want but once her abilities began to overshadow her own mother in terms of who the dominant dragoness is; Raven and her family is struck with the glaring reality that she is indeed the REAL powerhouse of the nest and with great power comes great responsibilities.

Raven's abilities are growing faster than she can keep up with and it scares her. Luckily, she has been able to find 3 out of the 5 mates Mina saw in a vision and these mates understand their role and is willing to do whatever is necessary to help Raven by any means necessary.

I love that she and her sister Lily have cursed eggs who they are bonding with. I cannot wait to see what happens when these ancient dragons emerge.

In this story we got an inside look on the family dynamic with Mina and her mate's nest regarding their offspring. We see the Klauth's offspring Allister still doesn't get it. He still doesn't understand that his siblings are his family not his servants and for that reason he has loss his right to succession after his father. We see the other hatchlings causing mischief and acting like peas in a pod.

We see how Mina is struggling with the reality that her daughter is growing into something unknown and that terrifies her because she and Raven's nest fathers don't know how to help her.

After reading this book it is easy to see that Raven will have a giant target on her back as well as her family. We thought Mina was going to be a problem; 20 years later the dragon world is faced with a new set of challenges unlike anything they have ever faced before.

The family dynamic is warm and fun; but there are some namely Abraxis who is green with envy that his nest daughter even far surpasses him (poor Abraxis; it's been 21 years, DUDE GROW UP). I'm looking forward to the abilities Raven's siblings will possess as well as seeing how they interact with their mates. Out of Raven's siblings my favorite is Orpheus because he is the Yin to Raven's Yang. Those two are chaos incarnate and I am ready for all of their shenanigans. Not to mention Azalea and Belladonna are a close second because the twins are always up for some mischief.

I'm looking forward to the next adventure.

It felt so right diving back into this world and learning more about Mina and her mates children.

Our fmc is Raven, she is amazing. She is kind, caring, loyal, protective, funny, knows she isn't perfect and just has this presence about her that I like. I think she realises that she is more and struggles with that but I hope that over time she really comes into her own because I think she'll be incredible at it.

Our mmc's are Corvis, Hemlocke and Keir. These 3 mates are all extremely different but they somehow work. I won't spoil what their species are but just know that they are incredible mates to Raven and I can't wait to see more from them in the future. I know they'll be vital for Raven and what she has to do. I don't know who is my favourite, we'll have to wait and see 😊

I really loved the plot. Raven and her mates face a whole new set of challenges which as mentioned previously, Raven really struggles with. It was so interesting to watch all the dynamics between the kids and the parents. It was really sweet to see how protective Raven is over them all and I have this funny feeling that Raven is really unique. I also really liked how Raven and her mates relationships progressed, it felt real.

Shoutout to Mina and her mates, I love that I was able to read more from them and this new world they've created.

I'm excited to see what's next for Raven because I have lots of questions...

Thank you Serenity and Meg for the opportunity to read this story. I am forever grateful to be a part of your ARC team 🙏

This book was a dream come true. It's so weird being back in this world, only it's the second generation who are front and center. You don't have to read the previous series to read this one. Raven’s Song felt simultaneously familiar and brand new.

Raven is softer than I expected. Don't get me wrong, with her bloodlines, she's a powerhouse and has a temper like her father, but she has her struggles. She's also a girly girl who is more in touch with her feelings. It's the fact that she comes from such a big, loving family that she felt safe to do so. I really enjoyed getting to know the second generation and seeing Mina and the guys again. In fact, one of my favorite things about this book was how close-knit the family is. They don't just make an appearance; the parents and siblings are a significant part of the story.

It took me a couple of days to finish this one. I really enjoyed the story. It was a slightly different Dragonis than I'm used to, with all the new and fantastical creatures and hybrids. That means new characters, different cultures, and more politics. Raven’s story was a coming-of-age. She's growing into herself. Mastering her vast powers, adjusting to new emotions, learning where she fits, and finding love with a bunch of great guys. Seriously, this was a sweet romance. All the guys are cinnamon rolls; I loved them all. At least the ones that were present. Not all of Raven’s harem has shown up yet. The story didn't end on a cliffhanger but on a possibility. I can't wait to see if the theory is correct. If you're a fan of the OG Dragonis, then you'll like Raven’s Song.

I am not sure what to say. I am sure others will talk a lot about the story, but I honestly just want to encourage everyone to experience this story on your own because it is so good. I have read the series about the parents of Raven, but I will definitely be going back to do so.

Raven's mother is the Queen of the Marzana Empire and her father is legendary. Raven and her parents wanted her to be able to blend into the back and live as normal of a life that is possible for her. But that is just not her destiny.

Raven's sister is kidnapped and her power explodes out of her because she will not let anyone hurt someone in her family or someone she cares about. But Raven's power brings out enemies and puts a target on her. There is deadly trials, dangerous fated mates and war.

Raven is formidable and possesses powers that far outweigh her mothers and her other siblings, while also increase in strength and power at an alarming weight. I really loved all of Raven's mates as well as the bond Raven has with her sister Lilly.

I really just want anyone and everyone to know that this is a book you need to experience for yourself, it will keep you hooked and invested from the very beginning.

Thank you Literary Inspired and Serenity Rayne for sharing this story with me early. All of my opinions are my own.

I knew I’d love this!! It was so good to be back in the Dragonis Academy world. This book is about Raven, a black dragon, who is Mina and Thauglor’s Daughter. But she’s so much more!! And of course we get to see everyone from the original series ❤️

Raven is a strong dragon, maybe too strong at times, yet she has such a soft heart. She is learning to deal with new powers and new information coming out about herself.
She’s slowly building her harem (nest). Her guys so far are amazing and so far not having the issues in the nest we seen with her mother’s, even if there is some warnings from one of her nest fathers…..cough cough.. Abraxis.

This was action packed, had humor, emotional moments and some open door spice and some great plot twists.

Ends on a cliffhanger!! Can’t wait to continue the series and get to know her other men!!

There’s also a helpful glossary of species and terms in the back

Raven's Song is book one in Dragonis Academy The Second Generation Series. It is a why choose, paranormal, friends to lovers, academy, fated mates romance. The story is told in first person with multiple POV.

This was such an amazing read! I loved the first generation books and this second generation already has me hooked. I really loved that Mina, her mates, and Raven's siblings were such a big part of the story.

Raven is such a fantastic FMC. I loved her strength, her struggles with power, and her love for her family and mates. Her mates are also terrific MMC's. I loved Corvis's willingness to accept, Hemlocks' passion, and Keir's protectiveness. Above all, I loved them all together, they mesh so well. I can't wait to see what happens when mates four and five show up!

The writing, pace, and pace of the story were incredible, as were the characters, character development, relationship development, storyline, storytelling, and world building.

If you love a great, action packed romance with amazing characters, and a developing harem, then I'd definitely recommend this book.

I’m not always excited about a Next Gen series, because it’s hard to top the original and for me to stay engaged. This is NOT the case with Raven’s Song: Dragonis Academy Year One. I loved diving back into this world and all the characters. Even though this story centers around Raven, we get to see her siblings and parents. Everyone makes an appearance and is part of the story. This deeper dive into the family and world sucked me in and I didn’t stop until this book was finished! I cannot wait for this series to drop in my library on release day and I’m looking forward to the next book📚.

As I really enjoyed Mina's story in the original Draconis Academy series, I was so excited to return to this world, and read about her daughter Raven.

Raven is very much like her mother, strong and compassionate and, with her unusual parentage, she is very much unique amongst dragonkind. Growing up in a large family, made up of multiple species, has granted her insight and understanding which will benefit her greatly in the years ahead.

Being a strong female dragon does come with its challenges however, and enemies lurk in the shadows. Finding out whether or not Raven, and her newly found and bonded mates, can survive their first year at the academy kept me hooked, and now I have to be patient while eagerly awaiting Year Two.

I received an ARC of this ebook from the author, and I'm voluntarily leaving this review.

This is a book you don't want to put down..It's that enthralling. It is filled with strong characters and suspenseful mysteries and you can't wait to turn the pages.
Raven is amazing and has hot mates. I am waiting to meet the orange egg, his advise so far has been spot on. I did get wrapped up in the Mina and Raven fights and kept saying they are both too powerful for this battle. Raven's powers grew really fast and I loved the growth, but I started feeling sorry for Mina, which I shouldn't because is a strong powerful dragon.
I was really blown away by Abraxis. I did not see him acting like a spoiled brat in earlier stories like Allister. I hope he turns around and deals with his injuries more maturely.
This is overall my favorite Dragon Academy book. It drove my emotions in different directions and made me want to keep reading to see where we were going. Highly recommend!

Next Gen realness

Ok, this was great but I cannot stress this enough that while you don't NEED to read the first gen series or Mina's story I would urge you to do so, because without that history and context you'll be lost.
But for everyone else, this is the beginning of the story of Mina's children. Specifically, Raven daughter of Thauglor (mostly 😉).
How she grows into the total bada$$ she needs to be and how she finds her mates who are adorable. Plus her siblings are perhaps, some of the best characters and they have their own side quests.
This first book was year one of Raven at shadowcarve and also about her ascension to heir. The book is full of back history and unravelings that it's almost overwhelming. There are so many subplots and threads to follow but don't be put off because this series is being setup to be epic.

I absolutely loved this book! Jumping back into Dragonis Academy was really comforting and I loved seeing the next gen of characters who were briefly introduced in the original series. This book drew me in from the very beginning and kept me on the edge of my seat and wanting more and more the longer I read. I was gutted when I realised I was almost at the end and I’d have to wait for the next book to release but the one thing I can say is that this book just hit the spot. It’s just as good if not better than the original and I can’t wait to see how everything unfolds over the course of the series. I’m already anticipating the release of the next book and I can’t wait to read it. I would highly recommend giving this book a read.

A huge thank you for getting the opportunity to get an ARC for this beautiful book<3

HOW DOES SHE DO IT EVERY. SINGLE. TIME?!?!

I knew as soon as I finished the Dragonis Academy series, I’d love every single thing she writes.
And when I found out she was publishing a NEXT GEN DRAGONIS ACADEMY?
I love that we get to see characters we loved from the previous series, but I also love how different the story is; that’s one thing I was scared of, and it blew me away.
Raven is such a strong, but emotionally intelligent character. I can’t wait to see how she keeps growing alongside her mates (your honor i love them)

Kind of want to punch Abraxis while Manchild by Sabrina Carpenter plays in the background tho ngl. Still adore him, but he got on my nerves a little this time around.

I've enjoyed the beginning of Raven's story and love that we still get to see things happening with Mila and her mates. I will admit I do still prefer Mina over Raven for now but that might change the further into Raven's story we get. The world building was spot on as always, the plot was just the right pace and kept you interested in what will happen next. I am intrigued about how Raven's biology has evolved since the winter formal and can't wait to see her mates as a whole unit against the ongoing threat to her family. You don't need to have read Mina's story to pick this up but it helps you appreciate her journey and her mates' dynamics.

Excited to see what happens in the next book as always!

The story continues with the next generation! I loved seeing all the different relationships, the way the children grew up, the ones that are closest, the parental relationships and influences. The story is told from the perspective of Raven and her mates but the rest of the family is a huge part of the story too. We get a good idea of who the mates are as well as who the siblings will be bonded to. There might be more cursed eggs in play. This is my most anticipated part. I highly recommend this series for fans of romantasy with reverse harem, bedroom time is one on one, they even keep a calendar. I recommend reading the first generation prior to this. It's not required but it'll help with understanding everything.

Love this world

I’m obsessed with this world. I can’t get enough. I loved it the first time around and seeing it through Ravens eyes just makes me fall in love even more. We very much see bits and pieces of the parents in Raven but she’s very much her own person. She has her own trials and tribulations to go through. Her own path to forge. And she’s going to do it her own way with her mates by her side. She’s a force to be reckoned with and I don’t think the world is prepared for her. A lot happens in this book but there’s so much more to come.

I also loved getting to read more about her and her siblings. The bonds they have, the ways they’ve grown up, the things they’ve done and continue to experience. It’s been a blast to read that.

I absolutely LOVED this book!!! If you get a chance you need to read it. If you haven’t read the original Dragonis Academy you need to start there for sure. They are all fantastic books and I would highly recommend them to anyone who loves mythological creatures and RH. It has dragons and blink hounds and black unicorns. I love that Raven has such a good heart and how she respects everyone, but she can still be a badass when needed. There are so many changes happening for her and her mates and she’s learning how to cope with them all while she has something hunting her. I give this book 5 stars!!!

Wow this book 5 stars I was one of the lucky ones to sign up to review this book before it’s published and omg I’m so glad because damn this book is amazing the spice and story line French kiss you have raven the main female character daughter of mina and Thauglor raven is a black dragon and she is such a great character and her mates are completely different species then her mothers mates except for the drakes so we get to see new species and what they are like the mates get along quite nicely too no jealousy and I also have a idea who her last mate is so can’t wait to find out. I love how strong and powerful raven is but she’s also kind hearted and loves her family and mates strongly. This was action packed, had humor, emotional moments and detailed spice my one complaint is from minas nest Abraxis he’s a nest father so not ravens sire I really liked minas mates in her book series until he had a personality change and became a complete dick I thought at the end of minas storys abraxis was ok with the idea of being 3rd drake but it appears not he’s still a dick and is even jealous of ravens power so I hope in book 2 because yes this is a series and ends in a cliffhanger sigh that someone abraxis in his place.

Raven has grown up and is almost 21. She’ll finally be able to sense her mate bond that Corvis has known since she was an infant. A long dormant enemy is resurfacing and kidnaps her sister. With each bond her dragoness grows stronger and she feels like she’s losing control. Will she be able to keep control or will the entire continent burn?

A bit of spice in the continuation of the Dragonis Academy next generation. Interesting to see the blending of all the species. Action, spice, love, heartache and more. Cliffhanger ending and I can’t wait for more!

I received an advance copy but my opinions are my own.

I discovered Serenity Rayne and utterly fell in love with the characters and the worlds she builds!!! I discovered mina books and oh wow!! I loved her strength and her crew of men!! I was utterly devastated when her books finished!! But I was super happy when Serenity Rayne decided to write about mina kids, and omg raven is absolutely perfection!! The first chapter has you gripped!! Every page you read you feel like you are right there with them, I can't wait to see where raven journey goes but pleased she has found three strong mates to help her along the way!! Also I adored abraxis in mina story but he seriously needs to pull his head out of his butt!!!

Wow! Serenity gives us the beginning of the second generation and does NOT disappoint! Raven's the daughter of Mina and Thauglor and just wants to stay under the radar, but when her baby sister is kidnapped, she unleashes everything to get her back and is injured in the attempt. Her mates are there to protect her and some unexpected twists on the way to a wicked cliffhanger keep you glued to the story. Dive into this wonderfully written book with complex characters and plot twists that keep you guessing and turning pages throughout! I loved reading this story and highly recommend it and can't wait to see what happens next! Don't miss out on this book!!

This was a really good story. I loved Raven and her mother Mina. I absolutely loved the world building. It was filled with so much description that it truly made this very vivid in my mind. I loved all of the different shifters that were a part of this as well. This was filled with suspense and tension making this a very edge of the seat kind of read. Raven stepping forward and doing what needed to be done caught my heart in my throat. I was so excited by all of the action and depth this story was filled with. It was a true joy being about to read this for the author. Thank you for the opportunity.

ARC Review.

I was so nervous for this series because I loved the original so much but I don't even know why I was worried Serenity Rayne did it once again.

Ravens story was amazing seeing all the children grown finding their mates and going to school I loved it. This was once again a read from this author that I could not put down once I started it.

I loved how she introduced new species to the school and story it's so interesting to me as a normally non fantasy reader but I LOVE these books.

I can't wait to see what happens next in Raven and her nest story!

I loved Mina's story so was always going to give Raven's story a go too, and I am loving it!
There is so much growth from Raven in this first book of her series, while most of it scares her, I am loving the connections she is developing with her mates. I am also enjoying that Mina and her mates are still involved in the story. Watching the bonds grow and change between the siblings, and the parents, is so heart-warming. Can't wait to see what happens in the next book with the possible mate developments!

I devoured Raven's story once I began reading! It had everything and more than what I could have wanted in a second generation series.
There was action, danger, mystery, and a few twists.
In addition, there were emotional moments, humor, and some spice.

I loved Raven. She has such a big heart, she is protective, and strong too.
I love each of her mates. They seem to get along and fit well together.

This was a fantastic beginning to Raven's series! I can't wait to see what's in store for her and her mates.

This is the next generation in the Dragonis series. This book lets us get to know Raven some more. Minas children are now at the academy to learn and become the best they can be. I love that we are getting to discover new enemies and get to see the unique gifts that Raven has. This book sucked me in. I felt dor Raven when she said that she wished she didn't have to wait till 21 to know and recognize who her mates are. I enjoyed that we are getting new species to learn about. This book was so worth the read and I am dying for the next.

Raven’s song was not at all like I expected it to be. I found this story to be very intriguing from the first page.

Raven thought she could blend into the background at Dragonis Academy, living the “normal life” her royal parents desperately wanted for her. But normal doesn't exist when you're dragon royalty at a school where shifters train for war, and ancient feuds simmer beneath polished academy halls.

It’s definitely a must read page turner! One of the best romantasy novels I have had the pleasure of ARC reading.

This is an amazing read that OMG, I could not put down no matter what I needed to do. This book moves along at a pace that makes for an easy and enjoyable read and is perfect for the way that the story flows. These characters are so real that you feel as though you know them and you will love them no matter what happens. You feel as though you are part of the story living through the events that occur. This book will not disappoint. Is a must read that needs to be at the top of your TBR list, no doubt about it.
