The Kingsleys of Ruby River #2

10 Rings I Hate About You

Rate this book
One chaotic goat. One high-stakes grant. One Glamma-level scheme to turn enemies into something far more dangerous.

Delaney:
I've been in hate with Marc Kingsley for twenty years.

He's logical. Controlled. And completely incapable of understanding anything that can't be proven—like my shop, my beliefs ... me.

So, of course, I move back to Ruby River and immediately get stuck running an animal yoga class with him.

Thanks, Glamma.

Now we're working side by side to help the local shelter—him with facts, me with instinct, and one chaos-loving goat trying to destroy us both.

But the more time I spend with Marc, the less he fits the version of him I've held onto for years.

Because the man I thought I hated ...

He's patient, Protective. And starting to look at me like I'm something worth believing in.

Marc:
Delaney has never made sense to me. I'm better with facts than people.

She believes in things I can't measure. Feels things I can't explain. And somehow manages to dismantle every bit of control I rely on.

Which is a problem—because this yoga class determines whether the Ruby River shelter gets the grant it needs.

I should be focused. Professional. Unaffected.

Instead, I'm noticing everything.

The way she lights up a room. The way she refuses to give up. The way being near her feels less like chaos ... and more like clarity.

And somewhere between the arguments and the late nights. I realize something I should've figured out years ago.

I don't hate Delaney.

I never did.

And now that I finally have a chance with her ... I'm going for it.

All in. All the way.

This small-town romcom features a hate-ish to lovers, found family, a plus-size heroine finding her place, a cinnamon-roll veterinarian with a dirty mouth, one chaos-loving goat, and a Glamma determined to make sure they fall in love—even if she has to force them together.

If you’re looking for a book that feels like a warm hug and a chaotic comedy special all at once, you have to pick this up.

Ruby River is full of small-town magic, from a meddling grandma squad to a hilarious goat named Chaos who constantly steals the show. It’s such a cozy, lighthearted escape that makes you want to move right in. My only tiny gripe is that I’m impatient and wanted even more scenes of them as an official couple, but the vibe is honestly perfect.

The spark between Marc and Delaney is electric. He’s a blunt, logical vet and she’s a soulful shop owner trying to navigate life after losing her aunt. They’ve been bickering since childhood, so watching that friction turn into a deep, protective love was so rewarding. Marc is incredibly respectful and patient, and while their romance is a total slow burn, the emotional payoff makes every bit of that tension worth the wait.

What really got me was the heart beneath the humor. The story handles Delaney’s grief and Marc’s neurodivergence with so much care and genuine feeling. It’s a beautiful reminder that you don’t have to handle the hard stuff alone. I would’ve loved a slightly longer epilogue to soak in their happiness, but it was still a deeply comforting read.

I’m already counting down the days until I can jump back into this world and see what kind of trouble Glamma and Chaos get into next.

Huge thank you to the lovely author, Stephanie Harrell and her Team for the ARC! 😍 All my bookish thoughts are completely my own. ✨

As much as I loved the last book this one i had a harder time connecting to Marc and Delaney. I think it was Delaney who i was having a hard time liking with how she grew up and her "hate" for Marc. And things she did were childish for me. Until a friend informed her that Marc was autistic... girl your in your 30s and not notice or listen to anyone around you?? You were just stuck on the past when you guys were young kids.

Marc was a good character who i loved. Everything we saw made me love him more. He was the winner in this book besides the goat. I love that friendship with his goat 💖.

Also another reason why this didn't work out for me like book 1. The glamma and her squad. I'm sorry but can we cut back on them? They were nice in book 1 but this one they were to overbearing!! Let peoples navigate there own lives. I can't with it. I don't care about the golden girl squad or how everyone is "scared" of them. 🙄🙄🙄

Enemies to loves do ohhh so right 💜🌶️

I absolutely devoured this book. This is only my second read from this author, and I was lucky enough to snag an ARC for book two—safe to say, I’m officially invested.

First of all, the pacing? Immaculate. We don’t linger endlessly in the past, but somehow still feel every ounce of it. That emotional payoff hits exactly where it should. From page one, the chemistry between Delaney and Marc is undeniable like, you can practically feel the tension radiating off the pages. The yearning? The angst? The “I absolutely cannot stand you…or can I?” energy? Chef’s kiss.

A true enemies-to-lovers done right. Because what’s better than holding onto a grudge for 20 years, only to realize…oops, that’s been love the whole time? Swoon.

Delaney really got me. That quiet, aching feeling of never quite fitting anywhere, never fully being seen…it hit home. Which made it all the more powerful watching Marc truly see her. And not just that, Delaney sees him right back, in a way that feels just as deep and meaningful. They’re opposites in all the right ways, and it works beautifully.

Also can we talk about the subtle foreshadowing?? The little breadcrumbs for future books?? I see you, and I am very ready. Give me all the Kingsley siblings. Give me more Ruby River.

REVIEW OF ADVANCED READERS COPY!

first off again thank you so much to Love Notes PR and Stephanie Harrell for giving me the opportunity to be an ARC reader!

i’m beginning to think meddling grandmas (who are right!) and goats who bring people together should be in more books! Glamma was loud and proud to speak about things she wanted and knew was right for her grandkids! Chaos the goat, the little menace he was will forever be funny bringing his parents together.

after her favorite aunt passes away Delaney Hart is taken to the small town of Ruby River to take over her shop. she thinks she doesn’t fit in and won’t be able to keep the store up to her aunt’s standards
enter Marc Kingsley the town veterinarian who likes data and straight facts and helping others and animals although he and Delaney “do not get along” he helps show her she is more than just what’s in her head

this enemies to lovers, grumpy x grumpy is such a nice and easy read that kept me engaged the entire time! from beginning to end. i enjoyed getting to see Marc and Delaney “hate” each other in the beginning but also Marc being 100% protective of her when Chaos the goat came trotting through the town in the morning that they were both outside. in come Glamma intervening (again) after a quick spread of the word that makes them have to work together. also enter her yelling at a spoiled old lady and winning him in an auction that they got to spend time together and see that they were exactly what they needed! reading this book showed me no matter how much time has passed or how alone you are and do things someone will always come to rescue you and be there to help you. i thoroughly enjoyed the story writing and plot that was displayed !

Marc and Delaney will forever be in my heart and i can’t wait for everyone to read !

This was such a great, fun read! I’ve read quite a few neurodivergent rep books, but this one is my favorite!

Delaney is a curvy FMC. She’s boisterous and loving, and currently trying to deal with the grief of losing her aunt. She runs her aunt’s shop that’s filled with healing crystals and positive vibes. She runs on feelings and emotions.

Marc is an analytical MMC. He’s the small town’s quiet and socially awkward veterinarian. He deals facts and statistics.

The two have had a grudge against one another since they were kids, but now they’re thrown together for a very important project to help the animal shelter.

It took me some getting used to Delaney, but it was instant love for me with Marc! He is honestly one of the best MMCs!

If you’re looking for a sweet and fun story, look no further! AND it has a headstrong, sassy goat 🐐!

A Heartfelt Journey with Small Town Charm and Tons of Chemistry!

It took me a few days to finish this one because life got in the way, but wow, this book took me on an amazing journey. It has everything I love—small-town vibes, a meddling grandma (aka Glamma), found family, enemies-to-lovers, and a plus-sized FMC.

This is Marc and Delaney’s story. They can’t stand each other—Marc is brutally honest to a fault and has a tendency to state issues as they are, while Delaney is more of a go-with-the-flow type. But when Glamma and her squad force them together to save the animal shelter, their tension skyrockets.

Marc and Delaney might hate each other, but they know an awful lot about one another for people who don’t get along. The way the author crafted their chemistry and tension was just beautiful.

The found family aspect was so well done, and I loved how that dynamic added so much to the story.

This is a 4.5-star read, and I highly recommend it. Huge thanks to the author for the ARC!

Stephanie Harrell has done it again with 10 Rings I Hate About You. This book was such an enjoyable and delightful read from beginning to end.

Glamma once again proved she is iconic, but honestly… Chaos the goat completely stole the show for me. His antics had me laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes more than once.

The chemistry between Delaney and Marc was absolutely electric. I loved the way Stephanie handled Marc’s neurodivergence with so much care while also showing Delaney navigating the grief of losing her aunt, the one person who had truly shown her unconditional love her entire life. Their story felt heartfelt, emotional, and full of warmth.

Ruby River continues to feel like a place I never want to leave, and I already cannot wait to return to read about the next Kingsley finding love.

Thank you Stephanie Harrell for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

🗣️ 𝚀𝚞𝚒𝚌𝚔(𝚒𝚜𝚑) 𝚃𝚊𝚔𝚎:  OMG, you guys. I loved Harrell’s first book of the series, but 10 Rings I Hate About You? 10/10 recommend and no notes! This book immediately stole my heart and never gave it back. I was literally in a chokehold the entire time I was reading this, and I spent most of my treadmill time with it, so people probably thought I was insane. I LOL’d, I got so misty-eyed I could barely see the screen, and I am SURE I blushed during the incredibly spicy scenes. This is not a closed-door romance people, and the heat is intensely spicy! 🌶️🥵

I absolutely adored Delaney and Marc, and this takes the enemies-to-lovers trope to an entirely new level. Their banter was playful and tense, and the humor was top-notch. Oh, and the animals?! Be still, my beating heart. I love that the author got inspiration from her own life for Marc, and between him and the way she dealt with grief, I was flat on the floor. You don’t need to read the first book to read this one, and I highly recommend if you are a spicy romance fan!

💜 Small Town Romance
🧘🏻‍♀️ Grumpy x Sunshine
💜 Forced Teamwork
🧘🏻‍♀️ Plus Size Yoga Instructor FMC
💜 Veterinarian MMC

One chaotic goat, one high stakes grant, one Glamma level scheme to turn enemies into something far more dangerous.

Delaney and Marc, longtime enemies, are forced to cooperate with each other to co-teach an animal yoga class in helps hoping it helps the local animal shelter secure a grant. But something shifts as they discover unexpected feelings for one another.

✨ My thoughts:
Let me just say, who knew a veterinarian could talk so dirty?! 🥵🔥 I was picked to be an ARC reader of the book and give my whole hearted honest review. Needless to say I loved this book. I loved how there were funny moments. And who knew we needed four little elderly ladies to give off such Golden Girls vibes. Like I laughed so hard as theses for elderly woman. Plus let’s not forget about little Chaos the goat. Like how freaking cute. Anyone who has ever had a baby goat or grew up around goats like I did know how crazy they can get. This book for me was a book I found hard to put down. I lived that’s there was plus size female main character. I am so glad to see more and more authors creating more plus sized women characters. Needless to say I have added the other two books of this series to my TBR. 💜🧘🏻‍♀️💖

Delaney and Marc. I love a good enemies to lovers romance. This one was especially fantastic!! I loved Delaney. Her need to be a people pleaser comes with her job of a yoga instructor. And her relationship with her aunt who is since deceased. She feels she needs to make her aunt proud in taking over the business and in the small town that was her aunt’s home.
Marc is no nonsense. His brain works that way. He says whatever comes to his mind and that’s no necessarily a good thing. He doesn’t have the ability to read some social cues that are important to not insult Delaney. He doesn’t intend to but it just happens that way.
The two of them together is like oil and water. They have so much friction, you could start a fire. Add in an obstinate goat and this made me chuckle hard.
This is a first time author for me but it will not be the last.

This rampaging romp of good stomping splendour and round a bender storyline is divine. The talent of Stephanie Harrell Author to tell it like it is with lots of fizz and humour throughout is going to fly off the shelf itself of that there’s no doubt.

Can’t you just tell already that these two do not get on? “You are an aggressively closed-minded individual, Marcus Kingsley. Not that I should be surprised when your worldview ends at what you can see under a microscope—” that’s Delaney ,she’s actually quite brainy. Even when the goat that bleated had those brain cells momentarily depleted… “My worldview ends at evidence-based reality,” Yeah that’s Marc ,though he’s all bark and a softie really especially for her…

Book number two in Kingsleys of Ruby River gives a delightful shiver and not a shudder, because Marcus/Marc never did hate on Delaney not really and now he’s got the rudder ,he’s planning on steering this relationship his way and freely….

Delaney is lost at sea in Ruby River, truth be known ,though she has assistant Cheryl and all the chakra and things in place at the shop her Aunt’s , she still can’t believe that she now does own. It doesn’t stop the little girl lost coming through because without Aunt Jem to steer her on the right path, she doesn’t quite know what to do with the aftermath. Her parents loved with conditions and permissions in place it’s true. Her aunt’s love was unconditional and pure. It’s her love she could always be sure of too.She hasn’t yet unpacked her bags nor her pain truth be told. She’s afraid to let herself go adrift and can’t quite get over her childhood rift nor be bold…

From the first pages I was in love with this book and I was dangling freely on its hook. With pearls or should I say peals of laughter it’s what every girl wants and more importantly not just an happily ever after but lots of kids ….IYKYK “A rogue goat. Apparently Ruby River has entered its chaos-farm-animal era.”

You see! Chaos ! Butt ( yes intentional typo) in Ruby River they don’t make a fuss nor cuss or hype ,oh no never ,even though they might secretly …ha yeah right …be in love with a guy (while emitting a sigh) called Marcus.

Sophia - call me Glamma ain’t she clever? She isn’t swayed in fact ,well played I’d say because this woman of a certain age on a rampage with her grandson’s love life in the palm of her hand lives her life on demand and not on the never, never.

They were on the skids since kids ,instant un-attraction with each and every action and reaction . Or were they? Because Glamma deems them a worthy match for dispatch soon towards an honeymoon, maybe in June…

Scheming by the ladies four ,the Sparkle Squad of Octogenarians who I don’t think are vegetarians, brings to the fore a Veterinarian and a Yoga instructor working together like none have before ..The comedic timing added to by friends and family has to be on a highlight reel. Uproarious! Glorious! It’s real feel class with sass. Perfectly penned Stephanie lass.

Will they make them see that this is their destiny ? Will Glamma find her own true love? Will the ladies find another match while drinking tea? Maybe… But to get the answers to these and more , you know what to do . Pick up this rip roaring triumph that is 10 Rings I Hate About You by Stephanie Harrell today ,it’ll certainly brighten your day.

The characters are a veritable dream,a scream. There’s a whole team of them teeming from the page. The Golden Girls ,Martha ,Gladys and Goldie led by Glamma of course and there’s Ruby River’s own Statler and Waldorf, Walt and Reggie Jones. Then there’s Anita MacGuire who made him perspire. Everly Grant the Mayor ,Josh and Penny ,can’t forget Adele who is running mum n dad’s store and Cheryl who helps out Delaney’s business. Grace ,Marc’s sis who we adore. There’s a whole host of them who are as zany as they come. Can’t wait to see the next book in series and the outcome of this bliss.

Bonus chapter - 1

Thank you, Stephanie, for providing me with an ARC of this book.

After loving and falling for Ruby Rivers, I knew I wanted to read more books in this series. The overall setting of the book was funny, serious, emotional and engaging.

The small-town, meddling grandmothers' vibe, along with witty banter and grief, added so much to the characters and the story.

Marc was so sweet, observant, caring, calm, slightly grumpy and logical. I loved how beautifully his personality was explored and expressed; that man had many colours to him, and it was an absolute bliss to read them all. He was so adorable with Chaos. The way he talked to the goat was very relatable as a pet parent.

Delaney was assertive, sassy, compassionate, and unwavering. I loved how she always stood up for herself and others. Her initial dislike of Marc felt unfair, but damn, that moment when it all shifted for her was so well written. The way she understood and complimented him was damn good.

You could see my eyes light up every time there was a hidden attraction between them. And omg, that first date might as well have killed me.

Marc, being a freak in sheets, a dominant one, was not at all what I was expecting, but that man knew what he was doing, and I was SAT for it.

Marc and Del were so good together; their relationship was not just about the fun banter, but also about standing beside and supporting each other. The way their relationship developed was so beautiful. Their romance was so easy to read.

I personally enjoyed when the switch flipped for them; it never turned off - the spark, chemistry, relationship just kept improving with each second.

Side characters and plot -
1. Chaos was the cutest menace.
2. Glamma meddling with her Golden Girls group will forever be iconic. The nosy small-town vibe never fails to be fun. I enjoyed it so much.
3. Loved the glimpse of the Kingsley family.
4. Theo, Adele and Wyatt, Grace and Josh were all such good side characters. I'm hoping to read all of their stories in future.
5. One thing I love about small-town romances is the sense of community that comes from that setting, and Ruby Rivers never failed to make me feel at home.

The ending was bittersweet. I cannot wait to read future books in this series and stories of other side characters.

Bonus chapters are always pleasant to read, and this one was no exception.

Enjoyed it.

When the very first chapter starts with chaos and a goat turns out to be a better wingman than most men, you already know you’re in for a good time. Honestly, that goat felt like a paid actor. 😂

And then we have childhood “friends,” awkward tension, and a socially awkward MMC who accidentally comes across rude while genuinely trying his best? Adorable.

The first chapter alone gives you:
🐐 a reckless goat
🩷 a woman with an overly kind heart
🐻 a man desperately trying to keep her alive while only communicating through arguing

And somehow… it works perfectly.

I absolutely loved the setup of this story. Delaney returns to town while Mark is trying to help the local animal shelter, and then the grandma squad enters the scene with their matchmaking masterplan. Honestly, they felt like the Golden Girls running the entire town from the shadows, and I mean that as the highest compliment possible.

Their big idea? Animal yoga classes with shelter animals, with Delaney leading the classes and Mark supervising everything as the town vet. Which would already be cute enough… except these two can barely stand each other at first.

And chapter ten?
The grandma interrogation nearly took me out. The way they disguised relationship questions as “teamwork exercises” for the yoga class was hilarious and somehow also the cutest thing ever. Those grannies were shipping them shamelessly from day one. Go Glammy. 😌

One of my favorite things about this book was Mark. He’s autistic, and the way his character was written felt incredibly lovable and genuine. His social awkwardness, the way he processes things, the way he cares… it all felt so natural. And honestly? He ended up being both completely unexpected and exactly what you would want in a partner.

Also… that mini fridge situation?
Sir. 😮‍💨

The story balances humor, grief, healing, romance, and personal growth in such a beautiful way. I found myself giggling constantly, but I also cried a little. The emotional moments were handled with so much care and warmth.

What I appreciated most was the lack of unnecessary drama. I kept waiting for some huge misunderstanding or painful conflict to ruin the happiness, and thankfully, it never came. Instead, this book felt safe, comforting, hopeful, and full of love.

And during such a stressful time in my own life, preparing for exams, dealing with personal things, and surviving exhausting work shifts, this story genuinely brought me lightness. It felt like a breather. A place to recharge emotionally.

This honestly felt like a warm Christmas story wrapped into spring. Cozy, healing, funny, and full of people who truly show up for each other.

And the goat eating one of the ten rings Mark got from his grandma? 😭😂
Of course the tiny chaos gremlin would do exactly that.

I loved Delaney. I loved Mark. I loved the entire family and social circle surrounding them. Every character added something meaningful and comforting to the story.

This is absolutely the kind of book I’d recommend when life feels overwhelming and you just need something soft, hopeful, and full of heart.

And honestly? Lauren Blakely is one of the highest compliments I can give when it comes to how a book makes me feel, and this author absolutely reached that level for me.

Thank you for writing a story that felt like light during a heavy time. 🩷

This week, we have just gone into a heat wave here in the UK. But that still doesn't make an excuse for my getting a bit hot under the collar.

10 Rings I Hate About You is a spicy enemies to lovers romance, where opposites attract after a long feud since childhood. Marc has spent most of his life across the road in his veterinary practice from his rival, Delaney, who only ever used to visit, until her aunt passes and she takes over her spiritual yoga studio. When they're pushed together, first, physically by a runaway goat and then by the meddling group of elderly ladies, they suddenly warm (and certainly heat up) to one another.

Marc is a high functioning autistic and the representation of him and his neurodivergency is so well represented. With the chapters in dual pov, we see both his view of the world and trying to manage social interactions and from Delaney's side, unknowing of this side of him and her misunderstanding of this. But through both, we also see stereotypes demolished to show neurodivergents have feelings, warmth and desire.

Delaney is a fierce, plus size fmc. She fights fire with fire but also has her flaws and insecurities. We see her going through life changes and her vulnerability, opening up and letting Marc in. She has something about her that I relate to and, as a fellow plus size girl, to hear her being and feeling desired, without any fetishsising or making this part of her such a stand out element of the story. It just is. No over indulgence of body positivity. Just her rightfully being desired and loved as a person.

The two of them are very funny. They are quick witted and the general premise of the story has its own laugh out and ridiculous moments. Other characters are also fully formed and different from one another, with delicious glimpses into other relationships that may one day turn into their own books... we want to know what happens next!

A final note for this story is the open door, sexy and explicit moments between these two. Delaney says it clearly: with Marc as a surprising dom, the feminist in us wants to be against it but it's so hot... we can't help but melt at his dominance. These moments are so full of heat but also love that it makes us blush and feel suddenly very warm!

10 Rings I Hate About You is hot, funny and successfully adds yet another man to the list of book - boyfriends.

I received an ARC of 10 Rings I Hate About You by Stephanie Harrell

This book completely pulled me in with the balance between humor, tension, and emotional depth. When you first start reading you might just think it’s just another small town romance, but this…this is a story about grief, healing, and learning how to let yourself be loved even when it feels uncomfortable.

Marc and Delaney worked so well together because they are complete opposites in the best way. Marc is structured, logical, and constantly trying to keep everything under control, and he’s also portrayed as someone on the autism spectrum. I really appreciated this representation because it wasn’t treated like a “quirk” or a character trait added for flavor. It genuinely shaped how Marc experiences the world, relationships, and emotional change, and I love how Stephanie was able to write it in with a lot of care and intention.

A lot of Marc’s need for routine, clarity, and control made even more sense when viewed through that lens, and it added depth to his relationship with Delaney. I also found myself personally resonating with him here, as I was diagnosed with Asperger’s at 19, so some of the ways he thinks and processes things really hit close to home for me in a very unexpected but meaningful way. Delaney, on the other hand, feels like beautiful chaos. But instead of clashing in a frustrating way, they balance each other out in a way that just works.

The banter between them felt natural, and all of their little moments together slowly built into something that felt genuine and earned.

One thing I really loved was how much emotional growth there was throughout the story. Delaney is carrying grief and trying to figure out where she belongs, while Marc is learning that love is not something you can organize and plan into perfection. Watching them slowly let each other in was honestly my favorite part.

And somehow this book made me laugh while also punching me directly in the feelings. Chaos the goat deserves its own honorable mention because every scene involving it was absolute gold.

The romance itself felt very grounded and comforting. The spice was there, but it never overshadowed the emotional connection, which I really appreciated. It felt like a story about two people finding safety and peace in each other while also becoming better versions of themselves.

I also loved the overall message woven throughout the book about being loved not despite your chaos, grief, or flaws, but fully alongside them. That really stuck with me after finishing.

This was one of those books that felt easy to sink into and I definitely am going to add it to my comfort read pile

Once again, Stephanie created magic; the perfect escape into a world of chaotic comedy, tender romance, and endless serotonin.

From the very first scene, I knew this book was about to own a piece of my heart. Falling back into Ruby River felt effortless like I had never truly left. Marc, Delaney, Glamma, & yes, even the infamous menace terror of a goat Chaos, made this world feel so alive, comforting, and impossible not to love.

Beneath all the humor & charm was a story about grief, found family, community spirit, self-discovery, & the quiet comfort of being truly seen. Delaney; kindhearted, compassionate, doesn’t want to fail her aunt’s legacy. I couldn’t love her any more. Marc stole my heart in the quietest ways. He’s deeply rooted in facts, logic, & structure. His unintentionally funny energy made him feel incredibly real & oddly endearing. There’s also this underlying ache to him, the feeling of not always being understood, of constantly putting his foot in his mouth without meaning to. And yet, beneath all of that, there’s so much care and heart.

Marc and Delaney’s dynamic was such a standout for me. Two people carrying years of antagonism, tension, misunderstandings, and history stretching over decades and when all of that finally cracked open, the heat between them absolutely ignited. The slow unraveling of all those buried feelings was a treat; went from simmering to downright HOT.

The way grief was handled here warmed my heart. It wasn’t overly dramatized showing realism, vulnerability, & sensitivity. What I loved most was how Marc gave Delaney the space to grieve in her own way & own timeline. He never tried to rush her through it or fix it for her. He simply stayed. Steady, patient, safe. He gave her room to stumble through the mess of it while reminding her in all the ways that mattered that she was enough exactly as she was.

And then there were all the little moments that made this book sparkle: the icebreaker & dinner game, the yoga sessions, the bachelor auction, the lip balm, sneaky fashionable Glamma & her poise, Marc & Chaos constantly being at war with each other; every interaction added another layer of contentment and brought such fun, mischievous energy to the story.

This book felt like laughter wrapped around grief, longing, healing, and love; a reminder of how precious time is and how deeply meaningful it is to find someone who makes you feel safe enough to fully be yourself. The Kinsleys have once again managed to claim another piece of my heart!

These books are.... Seesawing

I can't fully decide how I feel about these books. I don't hate them entirely but I hate aspects of them that seem to be a theme for the series.

Delaney is a decent FMC. The perspective of grief, the arc of childhood enemies to lovers, her care and loyalty to the town all work really well. Her parental issues are bizarre - we don't see any interactions, we don't learn anything truly reprehensible (they sent her to camp! How dare they?) but we know she has issues.... And yet, she chose to build her adult life within her parents social circle and region instead of relocating to her aunt's area once she was an adult? Why do both FMCs in this series have terrible parents and terrible decision making skills? The idiot female trope is dead, authors need to stop beating it.

Marc is a perfectly solid MMC. We understand his struggles, his needs and skills, and the reasons for his actions (current and past). Unfortunately the idiotic trope doesn't miss him either, leaving him kowtowing to situations a reasonable adult would not accept.

Glamma is nothing less than a complete train wreck for everyone else. She constantly causes mayhem and her inability to let grown adults work out their own lives and plans is absurd. They should have ended her interference the minute there was risk to animals and humans, instead letting her perpetuate her interference every freaking week. This isn't an amusing plotline for me. It's just rage-inducing. I don't care how old she is or how much money she has or what good intentions she claims, she's a disaster.

I also dislike some of the interactions between Delaney and the other women her age. They're all friendly and supportive, which is good, but they are childishly annoying as hell. At some point the author has to let the characters be grownups outside of bedroom scenes.

As far as the writing style, it's 50/50 for me. There is a decent amount of humor but an excess of foreshadowing and childish interactions between adults. The details are sloppy in a few spots, for example Marc says 3 words and Delaney hears 4. Just niggly details that bugged me. The spicy scenes are also excessively long; I'm talking 6-8 pages and they just weren't original or interesting enough to support that length.

10 Rings I Hate About You (The Kingsleys of Ruby River ²)
by Stephanie Harrell

When the previous book in this series came out- (No Rings Attached)- I remember raving about how special I thought this town and all the residents were. I stand by that 100%. SH has created something extra special with Ruby River. And, I say that as a @stephanieharrellauthor fan for some time now. I’m not selling the author’s other works short, I still love Peter and characters from other books but this series is something different. It sparks joy, flat out. With Glamma and gang and alll that that entails, it truly takes the vibe to a new level. I laugh at their antics & truly feel something each time they appear on the page.

We get excellent spice… heat, lust, love, & the journey in between with the main characters. And then that little something extra.

10 Rings I Hate About You by Stephanie Harrell

"Grief lived in muscles. People didn't talk about that part. How it made your body clench like it was bracing for impact even on an ordinary day."

Delaney Hart is a yoga instructor who has inherited her Aunt Jem's practice and shop after her sudden passing. Aunt Jem was the only family member that ever loved Delaney as she was, and Delaney cherished her summers spent in Ruby River with her. She's cautiously optimistic that Ruby River can become her home. The only problem... Marc Kingsley, her childhood nemesis. He's everywhere, it seems, and he knows how to antagonize her like no other. Marc Kinsley is the town vet, and he thrives off of routine. He likes knowing all of the possibilities before he even begins a task. He is constantly thinking ahead and tries to be cautious in how he phrases things to others (he's neurodivergent). The one person he never fails to offend... Delaney Hart. When these two are forced to team up to help the local animal shelter, sparks fly. With a lot of meddling from Marc's Glamma and her squad, they start to realize that maybe they haven't been in hate all these years after all.

I previously read No Rings Attached and was thrilled to be able to continue The Kingsleys of Ruby River series. I love getting to revisit characters from previous books. This one is full of lovable side characters, found family, true friendships, a whole entourage of mischievous animals, and a town that comes together to help when needed. Within the first few pages, I knew it was going to be getting 5 ⭐️s from me! I absolutely loved the neurodivergent and plus-size representation, and I feel that the subject of grief was written about beautifully. Plus, we get a 🐐 names Chaos!

I received an ARC of this book, but these opinions are my own. I would like to thank the author, Stephanie Harrell, for allowing me the privilege of reading her work. ❤️

Grumps & Goats & Glammas, oh my!

Tropes: Grumpy vs. Grumpy, Pleasure Dom, He Falls First, Enemies to Lovers, Opposites Attract, Small Town, Forced Team/Proximity, Found Family, Interfering Glamma Squad, Plus Size FMC, Neurodivergent MMC

Synopsis: This small-town romcom features a hate-ish to lovers, found family, a plus-size heroine finding her place, a cinnamon-roll veterinarian with a dirty mouth, one chaos-loving goat, and a Glamma determined to make sure they fall in love—even if she has to force them together.
******************************
Quote: “…. I know what advice my aunt would give. She’d say that everything happens in its own time. That if things didn’t go exactly as they were meant to go, you might lose out on something extraordinary. And you and me … we’re extraordinary.”

Review: What’s not to love? Childhood friends, now “enemies” can’t escape the chemistry that is pulling them together. First thrown back together by a goat named Chaos, Marc the analytical thinker vet and Delaney the crystals and chakra aligning shop owner, fall prey to small town life. When Glamma and her squad of ladies decide to stir the pot, the two former friends are forced to work together. The distance between them melts away and it results in a sweet HEA for Marc & Delaney.

It’s slow burn, so the spice doesn’t hit for a while. But when it does it’s on fire. The tension between the main characters is what draws you in. I was frustrated with the tension…I wanted them to finally admit what we all knew was happening all along. But it kept me invested. Meddling Glamma and her friends was fun and light hearted. The handling of the mild autism was nuanced and finessed in such a way that it didn’t make it stand out overtly. None of the plot or dialog felt forced and/or unnatural.
As with all of Stephanie’s books, I strongly recommend. As always, read the content warnings first, however.

I loved and thank love note for selecting me to read this ARC. It was the second book in a series so after I started this book I went back and read book 1 because I felt like I needed to have the full build for this book first. Which I did! This was an enemies to lovers story where they were best friends then became enemies… well if I’m being honest … they became enemies because Marc has high functioning autism. Which sounds shitty but basically Marc and Delaney were 12 and Marc didn’t know he should keep some comments to himself. He said some fact which were in fact true but 12 year old Delaney took them as mean which was also true and then they hated each other for 20 years. In walks Glammie! The crazy town Grandma destined to get all of her grandchildren married off 1 book at a time.

Marc, the town vet and Delaney, the Yoga teacher are tricked by Glammie at a town meeting to work together to help save the local Animal Shelter. But we hate each other Glammie! We can’t say that in front of the whole town and we can’t say no because then the town will think we hate animals. So fine we will work together putting together an adopt a pet animal yoga class. What could go wrong! Everything! From a Chaos causing Goat properly names Chaos, to and energetic 3 legged dog to cats with claws! Can they work together, keep the animals safe, save the shelter and get over their differences! Only time will tell!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

I’m a little late on this review as life got in the way. I love that the FMC Delaney is curvy and unapologetic about it. She moved to Ruby River because she inherited her aunt’s store. While she’s putting on a brave front to the world her grief has a tight hold on her. Her aunt was her refuge during all her years of dealing with neglectful parents.

Marc is a high functioning autistic veterinarian. He’s lived in Ruby River all his life and has been Delaney’s enemy for almost 20 years. His directness can be cute, however for those that don’t really know him it can be a little offensive.

And then we have Chaos, goat extraordinaire and mischief agent. He runs into town, eats Delaney’s lilacs and runs into the street. She goes after him and Marcus rescues her from an almost hit.

As the story progresses we encounter Glamma and her squad that bear a resounding resemblance to the Golden Girls.

This is the second book in the series, however my first book from the author and I find myself wanting more! There were hints and enough details from a few side characters to guess sums of the upcoming couples, however it leaves you with enough curiosity to want their book now!

Definitely going back to the first book and will also continue the series!

The book started with an adorable, chaotic goat. Not your typical romance opening, but one that set the stage for an adorable, funny, sexy story.

I really enjoyed Marc and Delaney’s story. I admit, I was drawn in by her depiction on the cover as a curvier woman and I appreciated that she was depicted as a strong yoga practitioner and her body wasn’t a major plot point. Other than the fact that Marc worships it.

I loved that the big conflict in this was regarding funding for animal rescue. It’s such an important cause and it is a source of stress but at the same time, it was such a joyous conflict that it didn’t bring the story down.

I loved Glamma and her partners in crime and I loved all the family elements playing in. It’s fun to wonder which couple will get the next book in the series! (I read this book first, so need to go back and read the first part of the series, but I certainly didn’t feel like I was missing anything jumping in here.)

Best of all? No third act breakup with our characters. They’re both working through things, but they see each other and support each other. And this is DEFINITELY an open door romance.

The Kingsley’s of Ruby River (2)
-No Rings Attached
-10 Rings I hate about you

I’m going to try and stop this review becoming a full
Ode to the delight that is GLAMMA but if I could just start with that. This is the second installment in the Ruby River series and our second chance to witness the gift to the world that is GLAMMA (glamorous grandma, duh), matriarch of the Kingsleys, working her magic on the town she calls home and on her Grandsons in particular. What a delight. What a woman. I adore her so much.

Delaney and Marc are wonderful, complicated people who have been rubbing each other up the wrong way since they were children whilst simultaneously always remaining very aware of the other. I enjoyed how the enemies to lovers aspect was played out as a misunderstanding between children and how their similarities shine through, even if both were reluctant to see it. Of course this wouldn’t be a Ruby River romance without town interference, Glamma with her glam squad openly plotting and lots of heart, I loved it.

This is funny, swoony, spicy and sweet. It shows the importance of community and found family and will warm your cockles. The spice is excellent, we love to see a strong plus sized woman being worshipped! To top it all off Delaney is dealing with the complicated grief process after losing her Aunt and I thought the way this was handled showed real sensitivity, heartbreaking and warming at the same time.

Definitely worth a read, could be read as a standalone but I would definitely recommend reading book one first, No Rings Attached because it is also a great read.

The side characters in this are top tier, I cannot wait for them to have their own books! I was picking up every crumb and speck of hint as to what those plots could be so I will be on the edge of my seat waiting for them.

Thank you to the author for the advanced reader copy, an absolute honour!

Loved it!

Honestly… I need to start by talking about the true star of the Ruby River series: GLAMMA.

What an icon. What a menace. What a woman.

This is book two in the Ruby River series and once again Glamma — glamorous grandma extraordinaire — is meddling, matchmaking and generally running the town with her glam squad like the chaotic queen she is. I adore her with my whole heart.

Delaney and Marc are exactly the kind of enemies-to-lovers pairing I love: two people who have irritated each other since childhood whilst also being painfully aware of each other the entire time. Their chemistry, banter and underlying similarities made this such a fun romance to read, and I loved how the “enemies” side ultimately stemmed from misunderstandings and hurt carried from when they were younger.

As always with Ruby River, the town interference is top tier, the found family vibes are immaculate, and there’s so much warmth woven throughout the story. It’s funny, swoony, spicy and genuinely heartfelt.

I also really appreciated the way Delaney’s grief over losing her aunt was handled. It felt sensitive and real — heartbreaking at times, but also hopeful and comforting.

And can we please discuss Chaos the goat?! Elite animal sidekick behaviour. 10/10. No notes.

Honestly, I just love this series. I want to live in Ruby River. I want Glamma to adopt me. And I absolutely want to attend a pet adoption yoga class with cats, dogs and rabbits wandering around freely 🐐🐶🐰

Definitely recommend — and whilst this could work as a standalone, I’d still suggest reading book one, No Rings Attached first because it’s equally delightful.

10 Rings I Hate About You by Stephanie Harrell was one of those reads where the main characters frustrated me for a good portion of the beginning… but in the best way possible 😂.

Delaney and Marc had me shaking my head more than once with their constant bickering and clashing personalities, yet I couldn’t help but stay completely intrigued. Their back-and-forth created the kind of pent-up tension and chemistry that kept me turning the pages because underneath all that frustration was something undeniably compelling.

What I appreciated most was that while these two seemed very different on the surface, there was also a deeper layer to both of them that made their connection all the more meaningful. Stephanie Harrell did a beautiful job giving these characters emotional depth and vulnerability in a way that made me feel for them individually as much as I rooted for them together.

And once Delaney and Marc finally began to move past their assumptions and truly get to know one another, their relationship developed into something really beautiful. There was growth, understanding, and a sweetness to their connection that made the emotional payoff worth the journey.

This was a romance filled with tension, heart, emotional depth, and spice that hit just right. If you enjoy characters who challenge each other, chemistry-packed banter, and a romance that balances emotional moments with heat, I’d definitely recommend adding this one to your TBR, book besties!

Thank you Stephanie Harrell and Hambright PR for this eARC! I was so excited to read the next book in this series and see what kind of hijinx Glamma would be up to next 😂

Marc and Delaney are the kind of enemies to lovers that makes so much sense. Their mindsets, their professions, and beliefs are so different, but when they give each other a chance, they realize those differences help each other more than they expected. They ground one another and I really liked the pacing of their romance as they realize this more and more.

This romance includes a lot of my fave tropes and I liked that Marc fell first (and that he’s a dominant kinda guy surprised me 😉). Their chemistry is strong and sizzling, and I enjoyed the spicy moments a lot! Their HEA fit them really well, and I also liked we got to see more from the first couple of this series too. I can’t wait to read the next one!
