This is an excellent guidebook, covering 9 areas:

1) Lone Pine
2) Mammoth Mountain
3) Mono Lake
4) Lake Tahoe
5) Northern Sierra
6) Mother Lode
7) Yosemite
8) Tuolumne
9) Kings Canyon and Sequoia NP

The author covers basic geological processes for California and the Sierra as well as the specific mineral, petrological, fossil, and natural history features where applicable of every site. The author focuses on natural sites while also including natural history museums and historic gold mining buildings.

Every chapter for each of the 8 regions contains a series of numbered sub-trips, each of which includes sites to see, very specific driving directions, contact information where applicable, and copious photographs and maps. This book is an outstanding resource, especially when you are exploring an area you've never been before. The author assumes that you might not, in fact, know exactly what street to go down or what hilltop to climb up, and will make it abundantly clear using maps, images, and verbal directions. I cannot wait to go on even more trips using this book.

Clear regions with sub-trips and individual sites, verbal directions, maps, geological timescales, cross sections, photos, illustrations, diagrams, contact info, references, glossary, all in a clear and comprehensible language for geologists and curious hikers alike. What more to ask for? I highly recommend this book.
