Alador discovers that there is more to his geas and the bloodstone than he had ever imagined. As its true nature is revealed, he alone must figure out how to complete the geas. His first task is to obtain the support of the one dragon that he and Henrick know how to find. But... how does one garner support from a dragon you have previously shot?
Follow Alador as he sets out to gain the support of the dragon, dodge Lerdenian politics and his scheming uncle, at the same time as he attempts to come to terms with the continued ripples that one large bloodstone has brought into his life.

She loves that everyone is unique and this appreciation and interest has informed and inspired her writing.
Matthynssens enjoys the universe of fantasy for the way it connects to the mind’s creativity and imagination as a colorful escape to distant lands of mystical beasts and fantastic quests where the hero really does save the day. As she’s matured artistically, Matthynssens has found writing to be a comforting counterbalance to a world where beloved characters don’t always get back up after they fall down.

It has been my pleasure and privilege to carry out this volume’s final edit: so I can lay claim to having read it very carefully indeed. Cheryl Matthynssens is weaving an exceptionally strong story here with subtlety and skill.
The life force of a magnificent blue dragon (Renamaum) has become inextricably involved with a young Daezun/Lerdenian mixed-race mage (Alador). With a dragon’s essence comes its power and temper, and in this case a “geas” that is death to deny (a ‘geas’ in Irish folklore is an obligation or prohibition magically imposed on a person). Alador must right the wrongs done to dragons by Lerdenian mages under the control of Silverport’s ruthless High Minister Luthian – Alador’s evil uncle – whom he must defeat while also destroying his abominable ‘bloodmines’. Only then can the geas be fulfilled.
Alador’s powers are extraordinary, but learning how to control them as well as to make best use of them requires rigorous training. Who better to provide training in dragon magic than dragons themselves? - and where Alador is concerned there could be no more appropriate trainers than Renamaum’s mate Pruatra and her two offspring: sired but not born before Renamaum’s death. Through Alador, the ‘god-gifted’ blue dragon has a chance to get to know his son and daughter before his spirit is entirely absorbed by the young mage. That is the way this magic works…
It’s a story about growing up, acquiring wisdom, controlling feelings, conquering fear and fighting for truth and justice for all species. The characterisation is acutely observed and the different strands of the story sensitively woven. It’s an epic tale - certainly one of my favourites in this genre - and I am keenly looking forward to further developments in Book 4.
This author has captured the essence of two beings in one body and the continual dynamic play that occurs. The political intrigue, solid plot, character development, and moving dialogue keep this book and the series in an ever-exciting loop of action. Well done again.
As I wrote this I came to a point of end it or make it super long. I chose to end it because of the clamor for a next book, but I know it is a little short.
However, I enjoyed weaving in some of the reader suggestions.
Another good book in the blue dragons Geas series.
This book is a nice read and the plot is easy to follow and understand. The book does not pick up right from where we left Alador in the previous book. Alador for all intenses has mentally imploded as a result of killing Jason in the previous book. The first couple of chapter deal with trying to heal Alador who after recovering soon realises he needs help to complete his geas. Alador also learns that he isn't even scratching the surface of the power renamaum has given him.
This book Alador has some tough choices to make not just for him but for his friends his family and the dragons in the mines. It looks that we may also have found out who may have helped start the bloodmines
I want to know what Henriks secret is. Clearly it is a big one and hopefully we find out in the next book because I can sense that it is a big secret that will affect Alador. I hope positively as I want the bond between them to be strong as I can feel that Alador will need his father in the future.
The only downside is that the book should be longer. At one point I stopped reading to see how far I was on the book thinking I was about half way it turned out I was almost finished reading the book. This is probably just because I am a fast reader. Hope I don't have to wait too long for the next book in the series
I enjoy this series. It's entertaining. There are some typos, which I don't think belong in a published book, even an independent e-book. But there seem to be fewer mistakes than there were in the first book, which is good. I noticed the phrase "dripping with sarcasm" at least three times, so more diverse descriptions might be helpful there.
Do we know how many books are planned for the series? I would like to know how much of this story remains.
Cheryl Matthynssens has captivated me again with this immersive world that she has elegantly laid out in this series. This continuation of the Dragon's Geas series delivers on many levels more than I had hoped. The development of Alador and his relationships and his magic is well thought out and well executed. The book leaves you wanting more and I hope that it is not too long before she is able to release her next part of this series.
Beautifully described landscapes and mysterious Dragon Lore; the warmth of genuine relationship and the wretched loneliness of being different. Cheryl Matthynessens captures it all writing, in this fantastical series of which Bloodmines is the latest release. She has the gift of being able to conjure for the reader a vast, vibrant canvas as well as embroidering the intricate details within it to create a genuinely enthralling story.
This is the third novel in the series and the story has not faltered in its originality and continuity. The character development is well mastered, bringing forth enough details to create a clear mental image without bogging down the storyline to the point of distraction... Bravo. I enjoyed reading this novel series immensely. Thanks Cheryl for creating such a captivating and original story
Lol I give this book only one star because I have to wait for the next one.
Other than that it is a five star read I like the characters the main character's attitude and thinking is that of a teenage boy and boy in his early to mid twenties. The plot was great and the ending.......well leaves me craving the next book
I read all 3 books in order and what a wonderful series it is! From the start of book 1 to the end of book 3, I only put it down to go to work. The magic, humor, and overall storytelling is just amazing. Each new book is just a bit better than the last! Do yourself a favor and read all 3. I will be anxiously awaiting the next installment!!
Fantasy should be overwhelmingly intriguing, transporting the reader to a different time and place and this is what happens with Bloodmines. You simply shut the door, start turning the pages and you find yourself in a completely different and brilliantly imagined world. Without a doubt my favourite fantasy novel of the year to date!
Great third installment! (although a bit too short...I devoured it in less than two days) :) Loved how sassy Alador became in this one...can't wait to know what happens next! (ps: I'm probably evil but I hope Alador does not end up with Mesiande in the end...I think it would be limiting)
The story just keeps gathering steam! With some startling revelations about Alador's geas and some memorable new characters, this was another engaging read :) looking forward to the next one!
