Mia Lexington is a mother whose life is devoted to caring for her four-year-old son Zane. After her family abandoned her on the heels of her baby's father, Mia vowed to never again allow anyone to make her feel like her parents and Zane's father did. Since that time she's refused to allow any man to get close to her.
Alex Douglas is at his niece's swimming lesson when he first meets Mia and her son. He doubts the gorgeous young woman would give him a second thought. He's also hesitant because of their eighteen-year age gap, but he can't get her out of his mind. Before he gets a chance to ask her out, she's gravely injured and her son is left with nowhere to go. Not wanting Mia to lose her boy to the foster care system, he lies so he can claim temporary custody…but what will Mia think of his grand gesture when she awakes?

I’m a mother of four. I started writing down my story ideas in high school, and never really stopped. Writing, I have to say, is my salvation. After I've gotten all the kids in bed and have cleaned up, I sit at my computer or sometimes a notebook with a pencil, and relax, write, and escape. This was a wonderful quick story with an amazing H and a strong single mother. His family are the most incredible secondary character, and little Zane, the most adorable thing. I loved this couple, and their story was the perfect, light, little read!!! <3
This was a fairly decent read. Alex was a great hero when he wasn't worried about his and Mia's age difference. Mia was a little annoying and I wanted her to speak up and just talk to Alex instead of assuming. Zane was the cutest little thing. I think he was the best thing about the book. I liked Alex's family as well.
What a sweet story! I really needed a sweet low angst read and this hit the spot. Alex has been taking his niece to swimming classes consistently since he noticed Mia there with her young son. He is intrigued by not only her beauty, but the fact that she isn't trying to get his attention like other women in the class. Even though he is considerably older than her, he just can't stop thinking about her. Mia doesn't think a gorgeous guy like Alex can be interested in a plain, curvy single mom and doesn't take his interest seriously. When an accident leaves her temporarily unable to take care of herself and her son, Alex steps in to be there for them. Mia, who has been disowned by her parents for getting pregnant, can't help but fall for not only Alex, but his wonderful family. Sweet H who is 100% devoted to h. No cheating or ow/om drama whatsoever, amazing secondary characters (hope they get stories), and the sweetest epilogue.
This was short and sweet. Totally insta. It was a bit weird though. Just something about this story did not flow easily for me. Maybe it was how easily she let a stranger take over her life. I can't put my finger on it. There was nothing overtly wrong with the story it just did not pull me in.
Although Alex is much older than Mia, it is a first love for them both. I never really felt the age difference between them as Mia had to grow up at a young age. She is a single mom and has done everything for herself and her son since day one. Alex pissed me off in the middle of the story. He was way too worried about what others would think. I understood Mia' leeriness before and especially after that. She had been through enough. Alex was a great H though. He stepped up to the plate for Mia and Zane when they needed him most. He always treated Zane like he was his own. Great epilogue six years down the road.
I have fell in love with this author's writing, so I have been on a marathon read of her books. This was everything I love...a older alpha possessive male and a strong but hurt heroine. This even had an epilogue which always gives me the happy ending with the cherry on top feeling.
Mia Lexington is a single mom who has been burned by anyone that claimed to love her. Alex Douglas is a cop and when he sees Mia at the swimming pool, he is intrigued. He asks her out and it does not end well. Mia doesn't know how to trust, but when she is in a accident, Alex steps in to help and Mia finds herself falling for Alex.
I wanted to like this but a bit too much saga. Alex is dealing with Mia being eighteen years younger and Mia is dealing with trusting Alex. I liked the idea of this book, just didn't click for me.
I tried to give this one a chance but the story was boring and the characters were pretty one dimensional. The H is super HOT and pretty much perfect while the h has a lot of insecurities. I got tired of the h's low self esteem. It also sounded ridiculous that a down on her luck single mother will be rescued by an amazing wealthy hot guy who magically takes care of all her problems.
I would of enjoyed this book a lot better if the heroine didn't annoy me so much. all it seemed she did was cry, it was always "tears streamed down her face" and everytime i read that i rolled my eyes so much i'm surprised they didn't get stuck up there. I did love the hero, he is the only reason this book is getting 3 stars instead of 1.
p.s also a lot of the drama in this book could've been solved by the hero and the heroine just talking to each other.
I really hate to admit it, but I kind of thought this story was a little boring. I bought this book to cheer myself up after reading a horribly depressing book that nearly made me cry. Usually, Hazel's men put a great big grin on my face with their over the top alpha male ridiculousness (yeah, I am sure you have figured out that I have read all of her Caveman Instinct books), but that just wasn't the case here. This book was more real and sweet than I was expecting. While the way that Alex and Mia end up getting together is a bit more fantasy than the normal world, the issues that they find in their relationship were far more realistic. What I did enjoy was the conflict at the end that brought the entire family together to face down their enemies....it was a pretty solid kind of cheesy moment and more what I was expecting. Overall, it was an enjoyable read, just not one that I will go back to again and again like Stephan (book 1 of the Caveman Instinct series).
Alex, the H, is "almost forty", he'll "be forty", he's "turning forty" and then he is forty. Any guesses how old he is? If you read this book you won't have any, it's mentioned repeatedly!
I won't spoil is by saying what the gift is that she gives him on his birthday, you know, his fortieth. But it SO far from being an appropriate gift to give to someone you've only know a month or two.
This was a great quick read - I fell in love with the characters and came to feel invested in the story. The developing romance between the two main characters was not without obstacles. This was story about a single mother down on her luck - disowned by her parents when she got pregnant she was forced to make it on her own. After suffering an accident she meets a sexy policeman who is drawn to her. Just a sweet, sexy read.
Wonderful and amazing at the same time loved reading the book and finished it in half a day and now I have to check Chad's book and I am hoping to see stories for Lockie, Owen and Stephanie as well.
Could you please let me know if there are going to be books about all ?
First half or so of the story I found some parts to be repetitive. The main story was really sweet, if at times over the top. If you have read and enjoyed Hazel's Caveman series you'll probably find this similar and enjoy it also.
This was such a sweet and intense story. Mia is such a sweetheart and a loving mother. Alex is a hard worker and deserves happiness. These two were meant for one another. I loved it!
