Karen Usborne was born in America in 1941. She is the daughter of Wodehouse scholar Richard Usborne. Educated at Cranborne Chase sister school of Bryanston. She read Art and History at Oxford and in London. In the 80's she exhibited at the Royal Academy and her work is held in collections all over the world. She has written childrens books (including best seller 'My Passport to France') and illustrated for a range of magazines and publications.
Elizabeth was a fascinating woman. Her early married life is much like the fictional character, "Rosalind" in the Elswyth Thane Williamsburg series. [surely Thane knew her, or at least of her] Elizabeth's writings are beautiful, and reading her biography, I am left still wondering where in the depths of her soul she found the worlds she created in fiction. Her life has so many layers and nuances, that I plan to re-read this book after having an opportunity to absorb the first sitting. Usborne's writing style is imminently readable, and well suited to her subject.
