This is a wonderful series following four childhood best friends who call themselves the Texas Sweethearts. Donetta owns the local beauty shop, which is temporarily shut down for code violations. Storm, the local sheriff and brother to one of the Texas Sweethearts, has to be the one to close the shop down. I love how the author has incorporated wonderful pets into each of these books. They add so much to the storyline. I stayed up all night to finish this book as I was thoroughly absorbed and didn't notice the time. Kudos to Mindy for another wonderful book! I can't wait to read Book 3 in this series!
I really wanted to like this book. It has a few tropes I enjoy including small town, best friend's brother and a secret (okay not so secret) pregnancy, but the leads made it pretty much impossible. Storm was overbearing and not for just assuming they had to get married, but for acting like they were a couple after a ONS with all the gentle touches. It was kind of creepy the way he suddenly realized that Donetta was "his". More than that though, there was no real love story. He never did anything that screamed "I'm the guy for you." Sure Storm did some nice things, but he's law enforcement so I'd chalk it up to his need to play hero plus he's a self-admitted adrenaline junkie. Plus, like Donetta told him, they were apart for 12 years so NO, they don't know each other. And Donetta had a lot of issues, which were justified but at some point you either take the leap or you don't. I didn't hate the story but for me it was an exercise in frustration and I never really rooted for the main couple. It was written okay but Storm and Donetta were not the couple for this reader.
I loved this story so much! The Texas Sweethearts really are sweethearts! Donetta, Sunny, Becca Sue and Tracy Lynn are the sweethearts. Since they were children they vowed to be best friends and truly are. Donetta had a one night of passion with the love of her life, one of her best friend Sunny's brother, Storm. She discovers she is pregnant and tries to hide it from the small town of Hope Valley, Texas. Storm is the Sheriff and he arrives in her beauty salon to tell her she has to close up because of problems with her building. Storm plans to help her get her salon on track and insists she moves in with him until it is done. Donetta does not want to marry, she was married before and was abused and is gun shy. Of course once Storm finds out about the baby he wants to wed Donetta. A really sweet and fun read! I could not put it down!
4.5 stars In book two we meet Donetta Presley and Sunny's brother, Sherrif Storm Carmichael. (Personally, I think Storm is sexier than Jack (plus he is funnier)). The book starts off with Donetta fighting not to puke while she is finishing doing someone's hair. Turns out she found out she was pregnant that morning and is having HORRIBLE morning sickness (that drags half the book). The baby's father? Storm. I wish we could have witnessed more of that part of the story instead of getting it from the halfway point but we at least get to experience it through flashbacks. It drove me nuts how Donetta would fight the attraction to Storm so much but I understand where she was coming from. I truly do. The banter makes for some laugh out loud moments. I really enjoyed it all. I liked Jack and Sunny's story a little bit more though. I still do recommend it. 😊
Really enjoyed this story. I loved the way Storm just stepped up and wanted to take care of Donetta, not only before he found out, but after he made the discovery. Donetta really struggled with her situation, but eventually, she conquered her demons.
This book is the second in the series and can be read as a standalone. So far, the first book is my favorite, but this runs a close second. The characters are well written, the Texas Sweethearts are fun, and the story pulls you in from the very beginning and holds you until the last page. My icing on the cake would be if the writer would start adding an epilogue. I would so love to read about Storm and Donetta, maybe 1, 2, 3, maybe 5 years down the road.
I loved this story and it is the second one but you don't need to read the first one to be able to follow along in how all the characters come together as family and friends. Loved the banter between Storm and Donetta both strong characters. Donetta has to overcome an abusive past in order to move on but family and friends pull her through. Well written and perfectly paced pulling you in from the start. Cannot wait to read the next one in the series.
I really enjoyed Donetta and Storm's story. They are perfect together, loved the connection and build up of their relationship. What a great addition to the Texas Sweethearts series. Love the small town vibe - very realistic. The characters are strong, well written, developed and likable. The plot was entertaining and this book just really drew me in. I can't wait to read the next in the series. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I loved this book! It was funny, sweet, sexy and had a really nice storyline! This was the first book I have ever read by Mindy Neff and I was pleasantly surprised. I have now found a new author to read. I liked the friendships between all the characters and how they were there for each other supporting and helping each other. It was a nice pleasant read without a lot of unnecessary angst and I highly recommend it!!!!!😁
This is my second book in the Texas Sweethearts series and I think I liked it even more than the first. Dinette and Storm have known each other forever but boy do sparks fly when they are together! She’s determined to stand strong and independent and this sexy sheriff just wants to protect her. I loved Storm’s tenderness and vulnerability especially when he swallowed his pride and turned to his sister for romance advice.
Interesting characters and enjoyable story. Have really liked other books by this author. The volatile marriage that the h had been through was severely affecting her ability to move forward in a new relationship. Heartwarming to read of the love of friends could help her overcome these fears and get her HEA.
I do love a lawman, I like seeing tall women too, too many tiny woman in romance novels. Donetta has inner demons from an abusive marriage, her reluctance to commit to a relationship is central to the story. I was a little bit underwhelmed by the ending, but overall a nice story, and I'm liking that all the books in this series have dogs.
Great characters, a plot with realistic but unusual incidents, laugh-aloud humor: romance doesn't get much better than this. I rarely buy series, but these stand-alone stories that revolve around the same cast of characters are an exception.
Absolutely loved this book and the characters. Loved seeing more of the characters that were in the last book in more depth. Great romance, steam, babies and past talked about. Definitely going to get the next one.
Storm has a focus on getting Donetta to marry him. She's pregnant, but has baggage from a past abusive marriage. She's too stubborn, and he's not letting go. Swooney, and a little annoying, but still a good book. Loved the characters
OMG I loved Sunny's story but Donetta's was better! What a relationship with Storm..... Now I have to get the last two books to see what happens to the final Texas Sweethearts!
Sighing for Storm! What an incredibly sweet and caring man he turned out to be. Poor Donnetta had gotten the short end of the stick too many times but then Storm. Great book, wonderful writing.
It's a great book. The determination of the cowboys (or sherriff) in this case is awesome. They knew what they wanted and went after it. Anyone who wants a good romance should follow this author
Surprised by a Baby: Small Town Contemporary Romance (Texas Sweethearts Book 2)
What do you get when you put together the most awesome hairdresser in Texas, the super sexy Sheriff of a small town in Texas ,mix very enthusiastically for one night, and what do you get? Two people who have known each other since they were kids, and a Big surprise! Mindy Neff write witty, funny, colorful stories that will touch you on some level of your heart every time. This was a great read and I enjoyed tremendously! BRAVO 👏👏
I liked this story right up to the ending, then I found myself wondering how the author could write such a great storyline, but not finish it. I enjoyed how the author developed the characters and storyline and I enjoyed the pace of this book and I think if the author could have added an epilogue it might have saved the story. I am not planning to read anymore from this series.
These four sweethearts are always up to something. They have a bond that last for more years then a marriage. Slowly they find their one. It doesn't change them. They are still the sweethearts. Good book.
I enjoyed this book. It was gentle and loving. The conundrum was real and made sense. It was definitely something that needed to be worked through and understood on both sides. It read easily also, very smooth.
