From Matt Shaw - the author of PORN and WHORE - comes his first erotic novel, "Sexual Healing".
Five years after he loses his wife to cancer, Jake feels as lost as he did when he first watched his wife pass away before his eyes. When he chances upon a working girl who is the spitting image of his wife - finally he starts to come alive again. Finally he goes back to the man he once was...
With scenes of a strong sexual nature - this book is NOT intended for those who are easily shocked or offended. This is an adult novel for those with a lust for the ruder things in life...
MATT SHAW was born, quite by accident (his mother tripped, he shot out) September 30th 1980 in Winchester hospital where he was immediately placed on the baby ward and EBay. Some twelve years later (wandering the corridors of the hospital and playing with road kill when he was on day release), the listing closed and he remained unsold, he was booted out of the hospital to start his life as a writer and hobbit – beginning with writing screenplays and short stories for his own amusement before finally getting published when he was twenty-seven years and forty-five seconds old.
Once Published weekly in a lad's magazine with his photography work, Matt Shaw is also a published author and cartoonist. Has to be said, can be a bit of a flirt and definitely, without a shadow of a doubt, somewhat of a klutz.
Favourite books "Roald Dahl's Collection of Short Stories" Tim Burton's Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy Anything, really, written by himself. Because he is that good.
I’m fairly certain I grabbed this one for free on Amazon at some point. Mitchell and I just assumed the little WARNING sign at the bottom would be the same one we’d seen time and again on Shaw’s other stuff letting us know that the story contained inside would be of the extreme horror nature. Ummmmm, yeah. We should read better (Trolls, you were right all along – I do read things wrong). Turns out Sexual Healing was an EROTIC novel . . .
God I’m awful when it comes to reading the dirty books. But it was a dirty book that Mitchell and I were about to read - which left us both repeating . . . .
Okay, that’s a lie. This is Matt Shaw we’re talking about here. OF COURSE we were hoping for creepy. And while I’m terrible at reading/reviewing erotic novels, I assumed if there was any porn to be enjoyed by me it would probably be Matt Shaw porn. Maybe my husband would even get lucky and get to see me in my sexy lingerie . . .
Alright, that’s a lie too. Mitchell and I read this at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday while eating donuts and drinking coffee. Nobody is interested in making the sexytimes with a woman who spends her only free morning reading pornography with her bestie, the dead pig head.
Anyway, turns out Matt Shaw can probably write just about anything. Sexual Healing was the story of Jake, a man who has been alone and on a downward spiral for the past five years since his wife died of cancer. While perusing the offerings of the interwebs he happens to come across a high-end call girl who is a ringer for his dead wife. Jake decides to fork out some cash and see if he can get some closure, get his life back on track, or at least get . . .
Of course, since this was a Shaw story, it also contained just a bit of his patented style of twist . . .
Recommended for those of you who like to have a plot in addition to your bow-chicka-wow-wow.

This book simply called my name! I couldn't resist the disclaimer!
Sometimes ya just need porn... Yup, I said it. And this book delivered. In spades.
Jake lives a lonely life of a widower of five years. Work. Eat. Sleep. Repeat. When one day, surfing porn sites was added to his routine...escort sites to be specific. Surprisingly, he sets eyes on an escort that has striking similarities to his (late) wife, Michelle. He emails her. He sets up an appointment. What has he done!? Everything screams 'back out while you can' but he keeps the appointment... Poor Jake. My heart broke for this guy. The author did a great job depicting a man lost in this world...boring job inputting numbers for hours, stopping for petrol, frozen dinners and whiskey...sleep. Repeat. No friends and just really lost. Even the appointment with Dannie, the escort, is awkward. He just wants what he had with Michelle back. The escort comes up with a (temporary) solution...
The book is heavy on smut, I'm not gonna lie. It's in alternating 1st person dual POV. My only beef is that there was no labeling of the switches in POV so I had to figure out over and over who's view I was reading at the time. That is a simple easy editing fix that would've made the read a bit more seamless. Otherwise, it's a fairly quick 100ish pages packed with steam, mild angst and a plot twist I didn't see coming. I'm happy I stuck this book in between some of my darker intense reads of late...
When I think Matt Shaw, I immediately think horror. When I saw that he had a non-horror erotica story coming out, I pre-ordered it without looking at the blurb. I'm glad I did. If you're familiar with this author's work, you know to expect the unexpected. That was certainly the case with Sexual Healing. I'm going to say what I find myself saying each time I review one of his books - if you read this, don't spoil it for other readers! Seriously, don't.
With that being said...
Jake is mourning the death of his wife, Michelle. He watched her die five years before and he's not been able to move on from the loss. There have been blind dates here and there, but nothing ever became of them. There was no spark, no wanting a second date. Jake is so lost in the world he once shared with Michelle that the thought of another woman - even five years later - is something he can't bear. One night while watching reality television (that he hates), he sees an ad for call girls. Curious, he checks out the website and sees a woman who is almost the same image of his late wife, Michelle. Before he realizes what he's doing, he's sending an email to this woman. When she responds is when the story begins. One awkward appointment turns into more, with the working girl doing a bit of role-playing in order to help Jake loosen up a bit. When he does? It moves right into the bedroom. But what happens when the role-playing goes too far? Is he seeing the woman who looks like Michelle, or does he see himself with his late wife?
There's really not a whole lot I can say about this story without giving too much away. There's quite a bit of sex in it, but no more than what I'm used to in the books I read. This is the author's first erotic novel (as stated in the blurb) and I feel that it was every bit as entertaining as his horror novels. The sex is graphically written and written well. But what really made the story for me was well, the actual story. There's more to Jake and the working girl that one would expect. There were a couple of surprises thrown in, as is the norm with this author. The title is perfect as sexual healing is exactly what's going on with Jake and the prostitute. Before her, he was unable to get beyond the loss of his wife. With her help, he's able to look toward the future in a way he hasn't been able to for half a decade. The ending was excellent and not at all what I was expecting.
This is an erotic novel from Matt Shaw. How could it be anything but good? The man can write anything. Well I just finished it and I was not disappointed. On top of some hot and dirty sex you get a great story.
Of course I was going to read this book. I didn't even second think buying it! I swear Matt can write literally anything and it comes out amazing. I have a theory and I'm wondering if anyone else thinks the same. I think the woman in the mask was Danni's friend Sophie, and I'm also wondering if the woman in the petrol station at the end who Jake went in to speak to was Sophie also? I don't know if she'd work two jobs being as her other one pays well, but the descriptions were very similar!
What do you do when your favorite horror author pens his first erotic novel? You pre-order it without even reading the blurb. When it dropped like a 2015 NYE present sent from the kindle gods I started having my doubts. I honestly went in thinking this is probably going to go very, very bad. I thought I’ll probably be so disappointed it will ruin things, forcing me to remove all his other unread books from my TBR shelf. I hate when something is perfect & someone thinks they can top it or “be more” or “give in to the trend” and they flub leaving me raging with disappointment. Matt Shaw IS horror I thought, best to get this over with…
Sexual Healing gave me everything I crave in an erotic novel and did it without being generic. This book has love, heartbreak, relationships in various stages, a conflict, and extremely believable told to you in detail sex that is so erotic it will make you blush (that says a lot since my days of blushing are long gone). I liked both the hero & heroine immensely. As far as HEA’s go, this was my favorite by far & honestly I typically hate them.
This book was perfection, seriously, I’d like another….
I love anything Matt Shaw writes, but was really skeptical of his abilities to write an erotic tale. Not only did he write great sex scenes, his characters have compassion, sympathy, and hearts--real beating hearts full of feelings--not dead and half eaten. This is not always something you find in Mr. Shaw's horror stories. I firmly believe the man can write a successful story in any genre. I can't wait to see what he tries next!
I will admit it. I am very envious of Matt's writing style and his books have rapidly become my guilty pleasure. This was another great read with an interesting concept (wife dies, working girl looks like wife, man starts visiting working girl) well executed with believable characters.
I guess I kept expecting this big twist, some bombshell to be dropped and there just wasn't. It was a good read with some hot, well-written scenes but as far as plot goes, there just wasn't a whole lot going on. I guess I expected more...
Matt Shaw's "Sexual Healing" presents an exploration of grief, isolation, and a very unexpected pathway to emotional recovery. The novel centers on Jake, a man whose world has collapsed following the loss of his wife, leaving him withdrawn from meaningful human connection and trapped in the suffocating grip of grief. Enter Danni, an escort whose role goes beyond the nature of her profession. Danni emerges as the catalyst for Jake's gradual return to life . Jake and Danni navigate the territory between very erotic intimacy and emotional healing, avoiding cheap sensationalism in favor of a more thoughtful examination of human vulnerability. It’s the honest portrayal of grief's isolating effects and the unconventional relationships that can facilitate healing. Jake's character development unfolds with slow pacing. His recovery is neither swift nor pretty. It reflects the authenticity processing of life changing loss. Danni's characterization avoids making her into a stereotypical escort and shows her as a complex individual with empathy and true compassion. "Sexual Healing" offers an examination of loss and renewal, anchored by two well-developed characters whose unlikely connection drives a story that is very intimate and should hopefully resonate many readers. A hauntingly intimate erotic tale about grief, desire, and the courage it takes to start over.
Spoilers Ahead:
This was wildly different from anything I’ve read by Matt Shaw before—and that’s what made it so compelling. Stripping away the horror, Shaw delivers an intimate, erotic, and surprisingly tender story about grief, longing, and learning how to let go. A man unable to move on from his wife’s death finds himself drawn to an escort who looks exactly like her… and then comes the twist—she isn’t dead at all, she left him. What follows is an unexpected journey of healing, connection, and emotional rebirth. Oddly enough, it’s a genuinely beautiful and sensual read.
Not one of his usual stories no blood and Gore but despite that a great tale. What is a man to do when he is falling into deep depression following the loss of his wife when he discovers an escort who bares an uncanny resemblance to her. His struggle to fight temptation is told from both characters viewpoint and is extremely entertaining and very very hot
A raunchy read with plenty of body fluids. Hope this isn't a spoiler: but none of them blood! A form of "He said, She said" double narration. Porn with compassion. Who would have thought Matt Shaw could .... er ..... pull it off!!
Really enjoyed this book. I was waiting for some kind of surprise, off-the-wall ending but I thought that it ended nicely. A lot of truth behind the ending of this story.
