3 cups peaches or apples, peeled, sliced
3/4 cup sugar
1/2-3/4 stick butter or margarine, softened



2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour, not sifted
2 tsp. baking powder
pinch of salt
3/4 cup milk

Mix fruit, 3/4 cup sugar, and butter; let stand. Mix 2/3 cup sugar, flour, baking powder, salt, and milk and pour into an ungreased 8x8-inch baking dish. Cover with the fruit mixture and bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour. Turn out to cool.
