College professor and widower Willy Daugherty is trying to keep his life together for the sake of his kids, but when their apartment building catches fire, everything they have goes up in flames. In the middle of the night, he finds himself homeless and wondering what to do next. Thankfully one of the firefighters, Kevin St. Claire, not only rescues them from the building but comes to the hospital and offers them all a place to stay for the night.
Kevin is used to seeing people who've lost everything because of a fire, but something about the homeless father and two kids gets under his skin… and into his heart to fill a loneliness he didn't even know was there. When he brings them home, his three dogs take to the family with gusto.
Then the fire that brought Willy and the kids into his life turns even more problematic. Code violations led to the fire spreading more quickly than it should have. As Willy and Kevin investigate, they come up against forces that would rather turn a blind eye. Can they protect the new family they're building, or will it all go up in flames once more?
I’m really enjoying this Carlisle series and this is a great addition, I really liked Willy and Kevin and their story. It’s a really good combination of romance, sweetness and a bit of mystery but without any unnecessary angst or drama.
Willy is a single dad of two trying to make things work after losing his husband. One night he wakes up to a fire in his apartment and it’s good looking firefighter Kevin who comes to their rescue as they try to escape the blaze. When Willy and the kids have nowhere else to go Kevin offers to let them stay with him. The two have an instant and very natural connection but it is a bit of a complicated time. Willy is trying to piece things together after losing everything in that fire and Kevin gets involved in investigating the fire and just what happened there. It doesn’t really slow these two down though, that connection is real and strong and they find themselves becoming a sweet family all together without even realizing it.
I definitely enjoyed this book, again a good mix of romance between Willy and Kevin, sweet and fun family with the kids and the dogs and then the mystery of the fire and the cause. It’s touching and entertaining and one I enjoyed from start to finish, plus I enjoyed getting the appearances from some previous characters and getting to see them again. Another great Andrew Grey read with heart and some heat that left me smiling – definitely hoping for more in this series!
This may be your best book yet, Andrew. Willy, an economics professor, has two young children, and when the house they've been renting burns down, they are left adrift. Enter Kevin, a dashing foreman, and his sister Evelyn. They quickly find a new rental and move in. This lets Willy and Kevin get to know each other better, and they DO. Kevin is still trying to find the arsonist, and he disappears for a while, but he eventually finds all three of them. By the end of the book, the two men and the children have moved into a bigger house, and Willy and Kevin are talking about growing old together.
A well written storyline supported by good character development makes this a good addition to this series. The plot is decently played, though the story resolution glosses over the final details in the end, we accept that the results were successfully handled. Ends on a promising future for our MCs.
I love all the Carlisle series books but this one really stands out!! Love all those yummy firefighters and the kids are awesome👍 Thank you so much hoping for more!!!! Lori
Another thoroughly enjoyable book from the Carlisle world! It's the perfect blend of mystery, medium angst, friends and family, passion, and love. These are two slightly more mature men who know what they want - including a family - and find their way to forever love. Recommended!
Willy and his two kids Grant 4 and April 2 and half are caught in a fire. They are rescued and taken to the hospital but they lost everything. Thankfully the firefighter that got them out offers them a place to stay so they don't have to stay at a shelter.
Kevin knows what it was like to be displaced and what the facilities will be like. He doesn't want that for the small family. Offering them comfortable beds and safe place is simple.
As the fire is looked into things aren't adding up. Then threats start happening. Kevin gets hurt in a second fire like what took out Willy's building. It's not life threatening but he does need to recover with someone. Willy and the kids already are thinking a lot of him so recovering their new place no problem. The kids love him and the three dogs he has which I adored both the dogs and kids.
We get to see Red and Carter again who I love from the original Carlisle Cops series. They investigate and a trap is laid. There was one twist that hadn't seen but I really liked that added to it.
This is insta love but I love it and eat it up. Love Andrew's books so much can't wait to read more and hope there be more in this series.
