Immortal Outcasts #1

Broken Communication

Rate this book
Genetically altered into a super soldier who can shift into a wolf, Casey Black should have been the perfect asset-but that wasn't to be. The scientists who conducted DNA splicing experiments on him put a little too much wolf in his cocktail. Considered a danger to society and a risk to the survival of the secret project, the government tried to eliminate him. The former Immortal Operative has spent the majority of his life on the run and off the grid from the very government who'd helped him be 'all he could be'. When the sassy, headstrong woman who makes his body burn with need vanishes, he realizes it's not his head, but rather his heart that is broken. And he'll do whatever is called for to mend it.

Short but good!

This was a short book so I am writing a short review. I listened to this via audiobook and it was narrated by Mason Lloyd who always does a good job. I like his voice and he keeps things interesting. I really liked the story even though it kind of seemed like it started in the middle. The Immortal Outcasts are former soldiers who were experimented on by the government with animal DNA to try and create super soldiers. They were part of the “Ops” program but things went wrong and the experiments didn’t turn out perfectly. Many of them died, but the ones with some supernatural DNA in their bloodline survived and they are now shifters and some even have psychic abilities.

In this book Casey is the immortal outcast, he is a wolf shifter and he is trying to find his mate Harmony who may be hurt and has been taken captive by two men. Luckily Casey’s friend and another immortal outcast, Weston had come out of hiding and saw Harper being kidnapped, so he purposely got kidnapped with her to help. Like I said the story is short but good.

Casey and Harmony

1st book in the Immortal Outcasts series Casey's story...
Rated 3 as the first part were a little boring for me compared to the previous books I read from the Immortal Ops series.. It was a quick read as well and I wished I could've had more background for Casey and Harmony, good thing Gus and Bill are still and Striker 😍(recipe for disaster😂)

Hope to see more of them as this new series unfolds 🙏😏

Quick read on Harmony and Casey. We don't get much about the two as a couple and it's too short to really connect. From following along with the different series it's good to read up on the others but you want more from a character like Casey. Plus Krauss doesn't seem like the type that would just let her go with all the twist and turns seems like this should've been way longer with way more drama. I guess we can look forward to a story about Weston now since he's been brought in. Good read just short and has little action.

Ever feel like you landed somewhere in a book without having an instruction manual? That's how I felt going into Broken Communication. I received this free in a huge batch of books in December, saw it was book #1 in a series and decided I wanted to give it a try. Well, the first part of the book I felt like I was stuck in a psycho's head. I am not so sure Casey Black was quite stable enough to allow me to see his thoughts. And those thoughts went on and on with no action, dialog or anything to break them up.

So the gist of the story is Casey Black is a shifting wolf that was experimented on to make a super soldier, but nothing ever really went right. In fact there is a group of these guys and then come into the story later on for some comic relief. Casey knows his mate is Harmony, a woman who shares an apartment with his adoptive daughter. He kind of protects them while also keeping his distance. Now Harmony has been kidnapped and he is the one to find her....until his quirky friends show up and help.

Harmony is more than human, but she keeps it hidden so well. Kidnapped, she is looking for a way out of it all when they all come in to rescue her. Now I get stuck in her mind, which is just kind of boring rather than crazy. I found myself skimming to get to some action and dialog many times.

In the end I felt like I was missing something or some book to make me understand what was going on. We get a lot on Casey, but it feels jumbled up. Not so much on Harmony. Then there is the whole feeling that I got that they had no chemistry or back story to be going forward from. Just that they are fated mates and now guess what....their in love.

So this was a lot of no go for me and I can't say I will be back.

****A gifted copy was provided by the author for an honest review****
This is a great novella in the Immortal Ops world.
Casey Black has been genetically altered and he is now more wolf than man. He has outlived his bio family and considers his friends his family. Casey has been in hiding more often than not to make sure that the government cannot grab him or use him to torture him to try to get more information out of him. The only thing Casey cherishes cares about more than his friends/ family is his mate- Harmony. He loves her more than his family and himself.

When the story starts, she is missing and he is going crazy trying to locate her. Casey is coming to terms with what Harmony means to him, how this changes things-for the better. He is seeing his friends and actually accepting help from them to get his mate back.
Harmony has her own secrets that she hasn’t shared with Laney or the cast of friends because she felt the time wasn’t right, and Harmony just felt her secrets could change how everyone felt about her. Her secrets have made her put on airs and pretend to be one person when inside, she is someone else to a point. Her story made tears well up in my eyes…for a moment.
This novella was fast, quick, exciting-delicious, roller coaster ride of yummy. I craved more. I loved Casey- he was the perfect ALPHA male and Harmony was a wonderful alpha’s mate. Kudos to the author writing a tasty treat in the Immortal Ops world. I really am craving Weston’s story as a follow up in this world. This is a great story that will get you into the Immortal Ops world or just a great novella full of intrigue, drama, laughter, headache, and in the end HEA. It packs a mighty size PUNCH. If you are looking for something to read, then read this story.

Not Broken!

Casey is considered a defective model of the infamous Immortal Ops, but he is far from broken. He knows things that would rock the world!

But right now there is only one thing on his mind, rescuing Harmony and making her his mate which he should have done years ago, instead of pushing her away.

Harmony cannot believe her eyes, Casey the man she has dreamed about for so many years is finally within reach. She can't wait to get her hands on him.

This promises to be just as good as the Immortal Ops series....Jump on board and laugh, cry and jump for joy, oh and don't forget the juicy passion....

Great beginning to a great series.

I got this book as an advance review copy and I thought this was a good book. it was a short book but definately good. I like the playful banter between Casey and Harmony. I also like the bond between the guys. Bill and Gus are kind of funny in their own way and Duke's reaction to them taking his car is too. I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

I could tell this was part of a series (well the first book of a spin-off of an established series). However, I thought there was enough background information provided to "get" what was going on. I didn't feel like I was missing anything. Now, in terms of the characters, Casey and Harmony, I would have liked a little more background on them (which may or may not be in a previous book).

Rescue the princess

This book may be short, but it has all the elements that make up a fantastic IOps story. Characters with depth and emotion, that draw you into their plight until they win the day. With Wild Bill and Striker making appearances there is tons of humor to offset the danger that seems to follow the good guys everywhere. I love that we got to see a more in depth look at Casey and Harmony’s true feelings, and was that a new character? Hopefully we will get to see more of the bear of a man. I applaud the author on another amazing story and am looking forward to the next one.

Reviewed at Shifter Haven

I’m very glad that I made the choice to read all of the Immortal Ops World stories in the author’s recommended reading order instead of series by series which is my usual habit. If I hadn’t just completed James and Laney’s story in Acts of Surrender (PSI Ops #2) then I probably would have felt a bit lost, as if there was majorly important information missing… and there would have been if I’d started this one as the first story in a series, not knowing how deeply connecting all these series are. Sometimes, we just need to listen to the author, after all, they know their created world best!

As I mentioned, we met Casey in Acts of Surrender, along with Bill and Gus who will play very strong secondary characters in several stories to come. His connection to Laney is as a loving, protective relative, a father-figure… but that didn’t apply to her best friend, Harmony. No, with Harmony his feelings were quite different and he loved little more than to annoy the crap out of her (in his own unique way, of course). Pure Alpha male, Casey has been watching over Laney and Harmony for some time now. The talented hacker who he sees as an adopted daughter and the woman he suspects might be his mate… if he ever allowed himself to believe that a mate existed for his broken self, have gotten themselves in some major trouble on different fronts. Now that Harmony is missing he will do anything in his power and beyond to find her, bring her to safety, and claim his mate.

In many ways, Harmony has been hiding in plain sight from her best friend, Laney, who was convinced that there were super-soldiers being created by “the man” and obsessed with getting that information out to the public at large. After a discovery that changed everything for Harmony, she set out to help Laney and James… and ended up being captured. The last person she expected to come to her so-called rescue (she was doing just fine, thank you very much, Casey) or to discover that the annoying aspects of this man were changing into something that she needed more of, perhaps for a lifetime.

The action is fast-paced, as always, the villains more than vile, the banter between Casey and Harmony added much laughter and knowing smiles, and the sexy sizzle between this couple could melt an e-reader. I adore Bill and Gus, their unique personalities add so much in different ways to this story, and I’m hoping we see more of this unusual duo in more stories to come. As always, I had a blast in this world. If you love a really good Paranormal Romantic Suspense laced with humor, inside jokes, and steamy attractions then this story, these series would be a perfect match for you.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription. As these series are coming out of KU in November 2020, soon they will be available on all vendors.

Book: Broken Communications
Series: Immortal Outcasts, Book 1
Category /Genre: Paranormal Romance
Author: Mandy M. Roth
Rating: 4 stars out of 5

Casey was considered a failed experiment for the Immortal Ops research team and all his life was on the run from the people that should have helped him. I loved his interaction with Laney when she met her mate. His life and relationship with Bill and Gus was sweet.
Casey didn't allow himself to believe that his mate was in fact Harmony but when she was kidnapped he had to face the truth.

There was more to Harmony that a shallow, spoiled rich girl. The fact that she was created for her rich parents added more to the whole Immortal plot. It was great so see her embracing her nature and fully accepting Casey as her mate.

I had a lot of fun with this book and I wished there was more to the story to enjoy. I love the plot and the direction that Mandy Roth is following and I hope she can write faster for me to enjoy the other characters. Now besides Weston there is Thor that I met in the original Psi series and Auberi with his Fang Gang to wait for.

I Love Everything Mandy Roth Writes

I read this straight through without stopping because it is so good. Harmony has been kidnapped and she knows her father will not come for her. She has discovered her father is one of many backing the doctors who experiment on soldiers and natural born shifters against their will. Casey is over a century old but is one of the soldiers. He tries to live off the grid since he escaped and helped as many of the others get away as he could even though he was badly burned doing it. But when Harmony is taken he decides he will find his unclaimed mate. The rescue party is not the kind of teams he was used to because they are a odd group but all want to save this special young woman who just has a few secrets of her own that none of her friends know about. After four years of each keeping their own secrets and making the other think they don't even like them it's time for the truth.

Way too short and a new spin off series.
You really, really, cannot enjoy or totally understand this without knowing the immortal ops series.
Too short and really not enough story or romance between Casey and Harmony.
Though both have been in previous books, this is supposed to be their story and it is lacking.
Casey acknowledges Harmony is his mate after she has been taken.
Loved having Gus and Bill participate and the ending was fun.
I can understand wanting a soak in a bath after being held prisoner for a week, but surely a shower to get the worst of the grunge off would be better. I cringe at the thought of sitting in the dirt of that bath water.
Read this book years ago and rereading in the I-Ops Universe reading order.

As a self confessed Mandy freak I knew this book was going to be good, they all are. I haven't read all of the books of Psi ops world and was a tad lost with the back story but it in no way took away from a stonkingly good story!!!!

Casey is changed man...literally after government experiments. Deemed as a failure he lives in a hotel with some others like him and knows that Harmony is his mate. However, she is not as human as he thinks she is and trouble ensues when she is kidnapped.

This is a great story in a compact book and i thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. There are the trademark Mandyisms - snarky humour and scorching romance. Witty humour and hotter than hot sex make this another fabulous book from Ms Roth.

Immortal Ops spin off novella

This is quite a good fun, if short, spin off book from the Immortal Ops series, which I’ve not read as yet. So, it gave a good introduction into the world; nutty scientists and eugenics years ago, resulted in biological engineering and shifters/vampires. Some are natural though. These ones are on the run, protected by PSI. Casey is mostly wolf, and is in love with a girl who loves shoes, but she’s not shallow. She’s been abducted and he sends other ops in to get her back, including Bill and Gus, who are quite fun. The sex is as you’d expect for paranormal romance and it’s a good read.

Page turner. Finished in one sitting.

I can't get enough of this series. Once again Ms. Roth has woven a tale of love, loyalty, hot sexy shifters, and their kickass mates.

Casey and Harmony have been sniping at each other for four years brought together through their friendship with Laney. When Harmony gets kidnapped, Casey blames himself for not being there to protect her. But nothing will keep him from finding her. Even if he can't keep her.

The characters are larger than life, the storyline compelling. Overall, a fantastic read.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves paranormal military romances. Quickly becoming one if my favorite series.

Kicking off the Outcast spin off ... Casey Black has watched over Lacey, who he considers his adopted daughter and her best friend Harmony for years. He suspects Harmony is his mate, but he's broken and determined to keep distance between them. Harmony is more than she appears, and while trying to help Lacey & James in he last book, manages to get herself kidnapped.

Another Outcast Bear, who has prophetic dreams ... gets himself kidnapped to help her, knowing she's Casey's mate. Casey's off to rescue his mate. Gus and Bill ride to the rescue also ... in Duke's sports car ... since Duke's a Bully :)

Super short, but a great way to kick off the new spinoff.

First of the government ‘Immortal Outcasts’ offshoot series. Of course, they’re not really outcasts, just weren’t what the government wanted which is good thing.

Captain Casey was the guy ‘protecting’ Doctor Hagen’s mate: Laney in the previous book. Now that he no longer has that responsibility he has time to find and rescue his own mate who’s just been captured by the Corporation.

This is a short and quick read. A little cliché but interesting. It introduces some of characters that probably will be in the future books.

Fave scenes: Gus & Bill’s return and Duke being a bully.

Loving the Immortal World series as a whole, but I'm seriously not liking how abruptly the individual stories are ending. Personally, I think $5-$6 is too much for how short these stories are, and I think the author is doing her fans a disservice by charging so much for so little writing. I'm only continuing the series because I'm really interested in seeing how the whole thing wraps up and how theses shifters find their mates.

In Denial

Broken Communication is book 1 in the Immortal Outcasts series. This is more of a novella, short and sweet. James Black was deemed a reject by the scientists trying to make super soldiers. They tried to kill them off but many of them survived and have been living off the grid ever since.
Harmony has known James for years and despite being a pain in his ass she wants him more than anything. Harmony gets kidnapped and it's up to James and his friends to save her.

I enjoy the characters and adventures in this series. Society girl Harmony has been kidnapped and is sure no one will be coming for her. She knows far more about supernaturals than any one expects, especially that she has powers which unfortunately are weakened by the iron bars she's trapped behind. But the man she know as a homeless veteran is desperate to find her because she's important to his friend Laney, but because he was destined to be her mate if he can just get to her in time.

I am reviewing this audible book for Audiobook Addiction.
This was my first experience with this author and The Immortal Outcasts and I hope it’s not my last.
I found Casey Black to be endearing. Even though he is a genetically altered super soldier his biggest concern was to find the woman he thought to be his mate. Then once found he was afraid of hurting her by shifting. My favorite part is of course the HEA.
I also enjoyed the narration by Mason Lloyd

This is the first book in the Immortal Outcasts Series. I love Mandy M Roth's writing! This short story is fast-paced, action packed, fun, and steamy. I like Casey and Harmony's story. Casey is a former Immortal Operative soldier, genetically altered into a super soldier wolf shape shifter. Harmony, his mate, is also a great character. I love their HEA. Mason Lloyd did an amazing job with the narration, as always. Now, I can't wait for the next book in the Series!

This was an amusing book and had a happy ending, however it felt rushed, or incomplete and a bit confusing if no other books in the other series have been read. This is listed as a spin-off of another series, and it is the first in the new series, but boy oh boy is there some confusing times when storylines from the other series and their characters are introduced - it is not self contained. Still, it is an enjoyable enough quick read.

This is a great story that is full of intrigue and drama, wit and laughter, action and hope. It packs a punch even though it is a quick read. The characters in this story each and everyone found their way into my heart and had me sighing or laughing especially Bill and Gus and the bond between the team guys and the fun they make of the Fang Gang. Mandy has found a great genre and knows how to weave her magic. This one gave me warm and fuzzies.

This book was a super quick listen and a good start to a new series. This is a somewhat different look to the paranormal with the experiments that were used on these people to create what they were or to enhance what they already are. I look forward to listening to more about this in the next book.
