I have been curious about what Jakes has to say, so when this came up as a freebie on BookBub I took the opportunity to finally get around to doing it. The specific volume is a daily meditation book, so there are no full expositions of his theology. One can get a broader view of his beliefs through the elements that he revisits. Two areas of repeated discussion are 1) you are not your past; once a Christian the past evils and bad mistakes no longer count against you, and 2) your newfound faith will help guide in doing bigger and better things.
Unlike many other contemporary Christian writers, Jakes does not sugar coat the world, either before or after becoming a Christian, and he holds true to traditional Christian theology.
I will probably look for some other works of a non-daily devotional format to see how Jakes fully develops his message.
