‘Profound links between mind, body, and spirit’ – an invitation to Wholeness!

His books include The Fearless Entrepreneur and now The Art and Science of Well-Being.
In a warm, conversational style of writing, Dr. Douk introduces his concept in the Introduction, stating ‘Meaningful change only happens when you bring all of yourself to the table – mind, body, and spirit,’ and with that invitation he presents his nine essential dimensions of wellness - intellectual, creative, financial, occupational, physical, environmental, spiritual, emotional, and social - that work together to create lasting health and fulfillment. His thoughts mirror his work in Neurobiotheology (even the three aspects of that word emphasize his message – Mind, Body, Spirit - or Neuroscience, behavioral psychology, and spiritual intelligence!), and his advancements of the wholeness of health is enlightening and life changing. Deeply inspirational!
This book made me slow down and think about how I usually look at well being in a very divided way. Sometimes it feels like sleeping better or eating differently should fix everything, but real life is more complicated. I liked the idea that well being is not only body or mind, but several areas that affect each other, even if we do not always notice it.
While reading, I thought about daily life, work, relationships, and the tiredness that builds up without warning. Not everything can be changed at once, and the book does not promise easy solutions. It invites you to look at yourself with some honesty, even when it feels uncomfortable. In the end, it leaves the feeling that feeling well is not about being perfect, but about adjusting, letting go a little, and taking responsibility for what you can change, step by step.
There are many possible wellness goals. If you feel unfulfilled in life, then the chances are high that you’re not reaching one of them, or several. This book explains what goes into wellness. It breaks the concept down into a formula and lets you know how you can tell if you’re lacking in any of wellness’s fundamental aspects.
Once you’ve figured out whether you’re unfulfilled socially, emotionally, financially, or in one of the other crucial wellness areas, then you can get to work alleviating your feelings of failure or disquietude. There are ways to do it, and the author is an expert at telling you about them. Soon, you will take the necessary steps to get to where you want to be in your wellness journey.
Having good health is not just about having good physical health, but also about having good mental health. But to achieve both, there are many factors that affect our well-being. ‘’The Art and Science of Well-Being’’ brings us a nine-step guide to apply and work on ourselves. With three pillars: mind, body, and spirit, this book will guide you on the path to regaining tranquillity. Without going into too much detail, this book covers the essentials and explains very well how to work in these areas. Based on the author's experiences, this book has become a bible of well-being. I highly recommend it, especially the chapter about creativity and environmental wellness; these were essential for me.
This book helped me look at health in a more complete and balanced way. Instead of focusing on just one area of my life, it explains how mind, body, and spirit are all connected as a whole. The idea this definition that states the book of the nine dimensions is something powerful and gave me a lot of value, because it shows that feeling well is not only about health or mindset, but about how everything works together. What I liked most is that the book mixes practical ideas with reflection. While reading, I felt invited to pay more attention to areas of my life I usually ignore or assume they are ok. Now, I’m aware and grounded about how I need to pay attention to my well-being.
I know little about behavioral health, and I must say that it has surprised me. I felt that all the areas that the doctor presents as relevant to life applied perfectly to the bumps I often feel in life and the balance I need to achieve. I feel that since reading the book, I have let go of some chains and found a path to liberation.
The doctor brings with him and his experience a huge number of tools for all kinds of life circumstances. It feels like a way to focus energy and finally find a center of complete stability.
This book is for everyone; everyone needs to identify that center.
Truly useful and helpful “The Art and Science of well-being” is an interesting and useful guide penned by Dr. Rob Douk. Thanks to his life experiences, his medicinal knowledge and his expertise as a doctor, he has penned a book that contains wisdom and ideas to apply in life. Rob explains the 9 dimensions that make possible a state of wellness. Every chapter deals with topics and concepts that people should know to work for their well-being. The way the author explains everything is really absorbing and catchy. There is no room for questions. I found it excellent and I’m applying some tips in my life. I definitely recommend it.
There were elements I liked about this book. The authors life story for example is very interesting and there are useful models and exercises to enhance your wellbeing and self reflection. However for me the emphasis on religion was too much. I do believe we have and need a spiritual side for our sense of wellbeing but for me it means something different. I am sure many people will find this book useful. Thanks to NetGalley and Forbes books for the ARC.
I like the book, well-written and thought-provoking. There were a couple of passages that really made me pause and think about some of my past traumas.
