The first book in the series in which a tiny girl who loves science gets transported to a land of magic and unicorns.

So this week I was FINALLY able to find and read the first book in the Izzy the Inventor series! My library finally had a copy! In Dutch of course, so instead of unexpected unicorns it is a dancing one (and lord Henry does love to dance a lot, haha). But the translation felt natural and fun!

In this book we see how it all started, how Izzy got sucked into a quest in Fairytale Land! How she was so into science that an intervention was kinda needed. An intervention to show her that science is all cool and well, but you also need imagination and some magic in your life! Even the great Einstein said so! I loved seeing Izzy go on a quest in Fairytale land and travel the lands, with Henry her unicorn friend who loves to dance, throw glitter around… but oh yeah, cannot fly. I loved seeing her find challenges and meet them with science. Like the trolls who weren’t really angry for no reason, but wanted some slime! Well, our inventor has a recipe just for that! She comes across other creatures as well and I looked forward to the science she would use to complete her goals. Plus, I loved seeing Fairyland again, it is such a fun place and there are so many fun places to explore and see. Though some of them don’t really deserve their names, and no I won’t spoil which ones, just read the book (and be prepared to laugh).

I loved reading about the prince, about his troubles and I loved how Izzy reacted + her plan. I could definitely understand the prince though. I was happy with the solution!

Also on that note, dear Izzy, I could definitely understand your parents, I love inventions, but given what happened to your inventions so far, I would also be a bit hesitant as a parent/person in the nearby vicinity, haha.

I loved how the book ended, I am happy that Izzy has learned a lesson on imagination, magic.

Plus, I love that we got recipes for the science stuff that Izzy did in the book, I definitely want to try that crystal one!

Oh, and just like the other book, this book is full of fun illustrations by Elissa Elwick. Really full. They are everywhere, and I love it!

All in all, I would highly recommend this book to all and I cannot wait for another book in the series~

Izzy loves science. She loves experiments and wants to be an inventor. When she is summoned to help get some fairy tales back on track, she is sceptical - she doesn't believe in fairies and magic. But can she use her science knowledge, along with a little imagination, to help everybody out?

This book by Zanna Davidson is great for budding scientists or anyone with a curious mind. Mixing well-known fairy tales with science and experiments shows that you don't have to believe in just one or the other. Izzy is a strong character who knows her own mind but who also realises that sometimes you have to adjust your beliefs.

The book is set out in a way that makes it very accessible for emerging readers. There are no long pages full of text: the story is set out in a way that incorporates the illustrations by Elissa Elwick as part of the story, rather than an addition. Speech bubbles, maps, explanations and experiments are interspersed throughout the book as integral elements of telling the story. This makes it very user-friendly and an ideal book to those starting out with longer texts. That's not to say it's and easy book- the vocabulary is challenging in places and scientific vocabulary is used appropriately throughout.

This would be a great addition to any class book shelf or school library.

A really cute story! Love the connections between science and fantasy. A really clever story with Izzy solving problems for fairytale creatures with science.

We'd love to try the science experiments included at the back.

Lots of fun pictures throughout.

Short chapters make it easy to read quickly.

Simple story and fun characters.

We're excited to read book 2.

What a cute book! I read it to see if it was something I could use for my classroom and it's absolutely perfect. I couldn't help but think of all the fun science experiments we could do and was pleased to see them all listed at the end of the book. I can't wait to add this to our classroom read aloud library!

Read this with my little girl over 3 nights.
Really well written and a great way of mixing science with fantasy. Love the experiments at the end to try at home to bring a love of science into the home.
Zanna Davidson has a brilliant way of writing which makes it engaging and the pictures really help with the imagination of the story.
Will definitely be reading the rest of the series.

This was cute. Definitely one for LKS2 (maybe even younger). Izzy is a science and facts kinda gal, but when a fairy comes along and whisks her away to save the day, can Izzy combine her love of science with just a touch of magic?

Cute! Reminded me a bit of “Princess in Black”, “Phoebe and her Unicorn”, and “Ada Twist: scientist” all rolled into one. I liked that she had the science experiments to move her through the hurdles of the story and that it included the change to the “Cinderella” fairy tale.

A fun story about a girl who wants to be an inventor. When a fairy comes to her and asks for help saving the world of fairy tales, she must make a decision.
Can science save the Fairytale Land creatures?

As a book for kids, what's not to love? I'm obsessed with Henry the unicorn such a unique character. Went in expecting very little from this book for my 6 year olds bedtime but I loved it. Mixing familiar fairytales and other elements with science, it really was a lot of fun

Read with my 7-year-old. Great vocabulary words. Includes experiments that are doable. Child asked about the names of important scientists. Kid loves the speech bubbles. Concept great (female scientist AND fairy-tale and I'm also not the target audience 😉 we will read the next book in this series.
