A Follow-Through in Faking

Rate this book
Catalina Sanchez and Santiago Castillo have despised each other for years, but the only thing that can save their reputations now is a fake relationship… even if it brings out some very real feelings.

Catalina has one goal and one goal only this season: win her first Grand Slam title and become the number one women’s tennis player in the world. At least until she gets caught in a scandal and the only way out of it is to pretend she’s dating the man she hates the most: Santiago Castillo. Being the golden boy of tennis, Santi has to uphold a certain image, but his partying and playboy ways are threatening to ruin it, making them the perfect candidates for each other in this ruse.

They have one season to clean up their repitations and achieve their professional goals, but Santi has a personal one at stake, too.

When he discovers why Catalina hates him, what he’s done, he vows to do everything in his power to make it up to her, including groveling on his knees if she wishes. Moment by moment of tenderness has Catalina’s walls breaking down until she finds herself as drawn to Santiago as she was when they were still kids playing doubles.

The only thing standing in their way is their past and Catalina’s fear that somehow they will find a way to ruin what they’ve so carefully built, just like it happened years prior. Only this time, Santiago is determined to make sure Catalina will never regret giving him a piece of her heart.

#Review: *A Follow-Through in Faking* - Bridget L. Rose - ARC [18+]
4.7/5✨
3/5🌶️

I need to thank Bridget for making it possible for me to receive this early copy of this stunning book!🩷

Catalina Sanchez and Santiago Castillo were part of the high league of tennis world but both of them had some issues to deal with regarding their public images. Their PAs though that if they would be in a fake relationship things might calm down. But that meant to stay in each others proximity and that was pretty hard when Catalina had a grudge on Santiago, who unknowingly did something to her and that was still bothering her. Besides that, something stronger was hiding in both their hearts, something which they preferred to keep buried deep down. But as hard as they tried to do so, the stronger those feelings hit them and made them question if what they shared was still fake or was transforming in something else.

I had a bit of a hard time adjusting to this book in the beginning, but after a couple of chapters I was totally captivated by this story! The enemies to lovers part was my favourite, loving the constant bickering between them, which often made me laugh so hard. Lina and Santiago made me fall in love with them, with their beautiful personalities, even if they both had their own flaws. I liked that it was more to this story than the romance part, having a emotional side too and a strong focus on character development. Besides that, I loved how amazing those tennis scenes were depicted and how they made me feel like I was part of all those intense moments, cheering at the same time for Lina and Santiago.

Even though it wasn't an instant connection with this story, the rest of this book was sooo darn good, adoring the characters, their fake relationship and their complex stories. I enjoyed it so much, appreciating all those tiny details of this story, which made it so lovable.

Women in Sports 🎾

!!!SPOILERS!!!

Oh my GOD! First of all, this was my first ARC read ever and I’m so happy it was one of my favorite author’s books. Second, girl what do you put into these books that make them so addictive?! I finished this in 2 1/2 days!! When I tell you that I need more of not only them, but if my boy Matteo doesn’t get a book I might crash out. Absolutely loved everything about this book, from Catalina’s shirts and lines that actually had me cackling to myself like a psychopath, to Santi not knowing how to deal with his feelings and overall just being an absolute vibe. Did I sob whenever he would so something sweet for her? Yes. Did I cry when he brought her grapes for new years because he didn’t know if the restaurant would have any? Yes. Did I cry for THIRTY MINUTES (yes I timed it stfu) after the sea turtle scene? Yes. Did I sob when my two favorite Pitstop couples appeared in the epilogue? Yep. But hey, if I don’t throw the book and dislocate/hyperextend something (true story, happened when I read Reserved) or bawl my eyes out, the book isn’t for me. I will be ordering this the second it comes out. At this point, I’m gonna have a whole shelf dedicated to your books 😭. Much love, and I can’t wait for more!

first of all thank you so much bridget for the opportunity to beta read and get an arc for this amazing book!!

i'm not a big sports girlie, but if there are 2 sports i like, it's formula 1 and tennis, so you just know that when bridget first posted about her tennis romance, i just had to read it 🤭

first of all, let's talk about catalina. she was such a strong fmc, both physically and mentally. during the book you can see her doing her best and giving everything she has to achieve her dream, becoming the #1 tennis player in the women's singles. her shirt collection is one of my fav things in this book, and her comebacks are just the best!!🙈

now santiago. if there's one thing i can't resist, it's a golden retriever mmc. and no one writes one as well as bridget. the way this man was SO gone for cata, and literally spent most of the book doing everything he could to get her to forgive him?? during the book we got to see how he deals with his anxiety, scrapbooking and spending time with his adorable bunny, tornado, who makes me want to also have a bunny.

everything about this book was perfect. all the characters were written so well, the whole childhood rivals and fake dating (my favorite trope might i add???) the banter, diverse representation and mental health rep was incredible, like in all of bridget's books and once you start it, you kinda forget you're actually reading. i can't wait to read the next book, and i know it'll be just as amazing as this one! 🫶🏻

If you want a romance book where they hate each other and then can’t keep their hands off each other— this is the one. In all of her books you will find strong female characters who don’t take any BS from anyone, especially men. Catalina is strong-willed, passionate, follows her dreams and tries to change the sport by advocating for her queer community and everything she believes in. It gets hard on the way, facing people who are too set into their believes to see the truth— she handles them gracefully and stays true to herself. The mental health aspect is perfectly portrayed, making you see it from a more raw perspective through Santiago. You learn that the bad days don’t define you and you learn that family is not only by blood, is the people who stay, who listen.Santiago learns that slowly throughout the chapters, even If he strongly believes his mental health makes him unlovable and prefers the quick fix by being the “playboy”, Catalina comes by and rebuilds every belief he has, as so does he. You have characters who are strong, stubborn, but every back story makes you stay glued to the pages.
The spice is very spicy and not the typical one that you are used to 🤭 the woman takes charge and it’s a refreshing view to see them have the power, like in all her books. My favourite author so far🤍 and i wait impatiently for everything she has to write.❤️

If you ever felt the need to find love between enemies since childhood you're right here. It's not the typical enemies to lovers. Catalina's character is powerful and strong, determined to make a statement for the queer community in sports, reaching her goals and on the way she finds something special with a man who thinks love isn't meant for him, that he doesn't deserve it and goes a way, which is causing more pain than happiness. Santiago hides behind the "playboy" imagine to protect himself, to not be vulnerable but with the pairing of Catalina he learns that there is something meaningful about beeing in love.
The view of mental health, the way Bridget shows the world the stark contrast and reality behind beeing a high performance athlete, the way through many different states of wins and losses, trust and confidence is something that not many authors can grasp.
As known by Bridget we get spicy scenes but not as much as in books before, this book is about more than physical attraction, it's about finding new goals, learning about yourself and building new habits...
By far my favorite author gave me another book I am determined to reread by time. This book showed me once more, why Bridget is my favorite author so far and I can't wait to read more from her❤️

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐✨

A literal honour to read this book early. Lone me a good ARC day ✨

Bridget, thank you for being such a light in this world and for sharing your writing with us.

This book is an "*chef's kiss* masterpiece; I truly couldn't love it more. It delivered one of my favorite tropes—fake-dating/enemies to lovers—and Santiago and Catalina have become the loves of my literary life. Their banter and the compelling enemies-to-friends-to-lovers arc kept me utterly enthralled.

I felt a profound personal connection with Catalina; as a woman in a field often dominated by men, her daily struggles resonated deeply with my own experiences. Bridget's mental health representation was, as always, incredibly spot-on. Her ability to integrate serious topics like grief, depression, and panic attacks into her narratives is remarkable, making you feel truly seen with every word.

Overall, a blast of a book 😍

I had the pleasure of ARC reading this bad boy, and Bridget, you angel, this was freaking perfect.

I love how both Santi and Cata have their own struggles and how perfectly they match as a couple. They learn to be around each other and find a way to trust again. It’s therapeutic and so so hopeful.

Santi is such a golden retriever and truly just wants to do sweet things for Cata and see her smile and laugh as much as possible.

It’s the perfect slow burn and when it erupts, IT ERUPTS, ALRIGHT. 🥵

A thousand stars out of five obvy. ⭐️

i was given the absolute honour of reading this book early & frankly, the little kid that fell in love books inside me is absolutely screaming, crying, throwing up that not only am i reading books early but i have an author who i speak to on a semi daily basis, an author that trusts me enough with her work to be one of the first to read it. so bridget, thank you, for everything. thank you for being such a light in this world & sharing your immense talent with us.

now, this book was absolutely an infinity star rating. i couldn’t love it even more. it gave me one of my favourite tropes, what i call the fake dating razzle dazzle. santiago & catalina are the loves of my life. i fell in love with them with every page, every glimpse into their past. the banter, the enemies to friends to lovers arc had me gnawing at the bars of my enclosure & eagerly reading on & on.

the mental health rep, as always, was spot on with this book. bridget does such a spectacular job of taking serious topics such as grief, depression, panic attacks & so much more into her books & integrating them in a way that truly makes you feel seen with every word.

the LGBTQIA+ representation was FLAWLESS as always, it’s so refreshing seeing that community represented in sports romances because those two topics typically don’t collide in such a way.

i am utterly obsessed with this book as i always am with bridget’s work & i can’t wait for you all to read it.

I had the absolute honor and pleasure to read this wonderful book early. Honestly this book has made a tennis fan of me. I have become so obsessed with Catalina and Santiago, that I might have to actually start watching tennis. Bridget is truly so good at writing romance and love in such a sweet and enthralling way. You fall for these characters and you feel their love through every page. The connection built feels real without losing the swoonworthy romance novel feel that draws people to the genre. It is such a slow burn but the bickering and time to discover the characters makes it more than worth it. Bridget makes all her characters feel like people you could meet in real life, flawed and messy and raw. Santiago, Catalina, and their families are no different. Tennis fan or not, I cannot recommend this book enough! Another incredible Bridget L Rose book!

Santiago Castillo is the golden boy in tennis. He’s number one in the world, and he knows he’s that good. He also knows that it means he has a certain image to uphold, and his habit of partying and womanising isn’t helping him. Catlina Sanchez has one goal in mind this season, win her first Grand Slam, and become the woman’s number one. That’s all she’s focused on… until she gets caught up in a scandal. They only have this season to clear their reputation, and achieve their goals, and the best way to do that? Pretend to date each other. Only problem is Santiago has broken Catalina’s heart before, and she’s not about to let him do that to her again.

I know I gush a lot when it comes to Bridget’s books, but this book is that good, that I genuinely forgot that Wimbledon was on whilst reading it because I was so wrapped up in the story, I thought the matches Catalina and Santiago were playing in were real matches, and I was very confused when I realized that it was Wimbledon and not the Australian Open.

Santiago and Catalina were so easy for me to love. Their personalities were so fun and they bounced off each other so easily. Immediately Santiago is funny and relatable. The cheekiness that radiates off him, and the way Catalina reacts to it, either when she still hates him or when she’s starting to fall for him. He also very typically is so down bad for her almost immediately, and it’s another thing that I just genuinely enjoyed about reading this book. There’s little I love more than reading a man who is so head over heels for his woman.

I always love the FMC in Bridget’s book, but Catalina takes it to another level. Her development throughout the book, seeing her go from actually hating Santiagop, and being guarded and then starting to fall for Santiago. It’s done so well that the readers can’t help but love her more the more you get to know her. She’s immediately funny with Charlie, and the banter between them is so fun, but getting to see her start to be that way with Santiago is so endearing. The way that it’s a slow burn, but never feels like it’s dragging as you see both characters develop is amazing. Her hatred for Santiago at the start is so valid, and I like that she calls him out on it. She isn’t afraid to put him in his place and make him apologise rather than pretending nothing happened when she starts to fall for him. She calls out his actions, the way he reacts to the way she felt about what happened, and it’s something that’s so important to have a healthy dynamic.

One thing that needs to be highlighted in this book as much as any other Bridget writes is how the small things are never forgotten about. Cata’s frustration as a queer woman in sport, and how sports tend to react to anyone who is part of the LGBTQIA+ community, it’s such a valid point to be making, but it’s never in a way that feels like it’s being forced. It’s a very real conversation that needs to be had, but it’s handled with such care.

One of my favourite things that cannot be understated, is how Santiago waits for Catalina’s permission to do anything. He truly waits for consent before doing anything even touching her face, it’;s something that’s so sweet and so overlooked, but it’s so tender, it had me smiling every single time it happened.

There is amazing mental health representation in this book, and I think one of the things that makes it so much better is the differentiation between depression and anxiety. Santiago living with both, makes the points that because he is able to recognise how to cope with his depression, doesn’t mean that he is able to do the same with his anxiety, and I think that’s a very important difference to highlight. It’s details like this that makes Bridget’s writing so important, and so good.

The supporting characters are some of my favourite, Sage (was not expecting to see her), Charlie, Matteo, they really add to the found family around them, and that’s one of my favourite things to read about. That being said, this is my official request. I NEED A BOOK ABOUT THOMAS CROVETTO!!!! He is my favourite side character, and I NEED a book that’s focused on him!

All in all, I cannot fault this book. Its a full 5 stars, and it gave me a new appreciation for tennis. And it gave me one of the most romantic things I have ever read when Santiago’s father says “And I don’t think about your mother for twenty-three hours a day.”

„A Follow Through in Faking“.

Ein absolut gelungenes Buch, i loved it!

I think it's the first time I've taken so long reading a book.
This book marks a lot of firsts for me. First ARC read, First Tennis romance and
also, the first book I read while in exam season.

And to all of that I say, WORTH. EVERY. SECOND.

I can't speak, I really can't. Some books can pull you in so well that you don't even realise, but you start feeling like you're a part of the characters' journey, watching me grow, live and fall in love while you watch; this was one of those.

At this point, everything Bridget L Rose touches has become a MUST-read for me.

Gosh, where do I start? This book...oh God, this book!

Cata and Santi; their pacing, their relationship, their bond; the way they just become entwined in each other's lives; I can't, oh God!!!

Santiago Castillo, the man you are. Folks, when I say this man yearns, I mean he YEARNS!
I know he's fictional, and I'm MAD about it. Because what do you mean I'll never have my own Santi😭😭😭 And Cata, my sweet, brave and ambitious Catalina; this girl takes the world by a storm and still makes sure her corazon was her priority.

Their's is a story about perfect pacing, love, ambition, second chances, and how two people can be each other’s biggest supporters through it all. No extra drama, no making the bp go berserk (it did fluctuate from time to time, don't get me wrong), just 2 people who love each other and love what they do. Absolutely beautiful, and easily one of my favourite reads of the year.

Thank you, Bridget, for making a part of your ARC readers and also for writing a story so heartwarming and beautiful❤️❤️

4.5⭐️ ARC REVIEW: Thankyou so much to Bridget for sending me the ARC of this book it was truly amazing. I loved Santi & Catalina’s story it was such a wholesome romance whilst still keeping so much depth and plot. I loved how Catalina carries herself and how Santi was so down bad for her from the very beginning. The tennis aspect of this was done so well and the in depth details of it made me actually learn a lot more of what tennis is like and what the players have to go through. Both characters were so different from each other but worked so well together it was truly wholesome to read. I loved how this wasn’t like every other fake dating romance, there was so much depth to it and such deeper topics added that it made it a unique story, with the characters being Spanish and the spanish words added in here and there and how there was a LGBTQIA+ rep in this aswell it was all done so incredibly well. I love how Bridget managed to still add in a Formula 1 aspect into this without it taking over the storyline it was so well done and so fun to read about. Both characters were so funny in their own way and the way that they bantered between them was really entertaining. It’s rare to find a romance book with all these different topics thats actually done well but this one topped them all it was incredible and such a good fun wholesome read.

I absolutely loved this book!! Bridget keeps hitting it out of the park with her sports romances!

This book was so well written and well researched. Since Bridget herself is a tennis player, this book flowed so well and the sport lingo was described really well. I've always been so fascinated by tennis so it was so fun to read this tennis romance!

Catalina is such an inspiring and well rounded fmc. I absolutely loved seeing how strong and driven she was. She is an absolute powerhouse and I couldn't help but cheer her on while reading about her matches. She deserves the world and I'm so glad Santiago is giving it to her!

Santi is such a cute and charming mmc. I totally blushed and giggled every time he flirted with Catalina. And oh my gosh does this man go above and beyond with suprises and sweet romantic gestures. I mean planning a whole scavenger hunt for Catalina?! Just wow!!

It was an absolute joy to see a few little cameo's from characters from Bridget's other books!

Also the ending of this book made me tear up. It ended off so perfectly. The fact that Santi knew Catalina so well to give her the most perfect suprise made my heart swell.🥹🐢🫧

Thank you so much to the author for an e-arc of this book! I absolutely loved it and definitely recommend picking it up!!🥹🫶

ARC review
I devoured this book in 24hrs; sports romance fans, get ready, because Catalina and Santiago’s story delivers all the fire and feels. Love a rivals-to-lovers trope? Enemies forced into a fake relationship? This is the book for you. Catalina is a fierce tennis queen, focused on becoming number one, but her journey takes a wild turn when a scandal throws her into the arms of her childhood rival, Santi, the troublemaking golden boy of tennis. Watching these two navigate grudges, second chances, and the pressures of the spotlight gave me all the swoons and heartbreak; plus a little bit of groveling I didn’t know I needed.

If you love stories about redemption, forgiveness, and discovering the truth behind old wounds, you need to bump this to the top of your list. Their chemistry is electric, and the slow unraveling of trust and real affection is pure perfection. There’s so much heart packed in, from the adrenaline of the courts to quiet moments of vulnerability. This one’s a must-read for anyone who loves high-stakes romance with genuine depth!

Thank you to Bridget L. Rose for the ARC

I love that the story jumps right into the action. This is such a sweet romance and I’m obsessed with them!

Their banter with each other is just top-tier. It’s hilarious and engaging; a sparring match that feels like I’m watching a tennis match.

Santi reminds me of Adrian in all the best ways. And I love how Catalina truly makes Santi earn her trust/love back. She doesn’t give in easily, but Santis actions convey much more than his words.

I also adored all of the side characters; from Catalina’s family to her friends, meddling managers and everyone else. This book truly exuded family. And I loved the exploration of grief and mental health. The way in which both characters showed up for each other, and refused to let the other be alone in their journeys.

And then the two world colliding in the epilogue!! AHHHH! Plus an early Valentina Romana reference?! Oooh, Bridget you treat us. Also, can we get a Thomas Crovetto book please??

Thank you so much Bridget for the ARC copy! As always, all opinions are entirely my own.

First I need to give the biggest thank you to the lovely and talented Bridget for allowing me the opportunity to ARC read this book! I had the pleasure of getting to interview her on The Paddock Girls podcast where she mentioned the book was coming and I’ve been dying to get my hands on it ever since.

As always Bridget artfully covers grief, equality, and LGBTQIA+ topics in a way that hits me in my feels and brings me joy all at the same time.

As a girl who LOVED tennis as a child I never thought I’d find myself reading a tennis romance but I knew if anyone would make me love it, it would be Bridget. I fear Catalina and Santiago are my new favorite duo from her.

Over 20/10 I have no notes. It’s another smash hit from Bridget, which is no surprise at all!

I went in blind and dove face first into this book and absolutely loved it. The writing is incredible, and the chemistry between Cata and Santi was off the charts, but I wouldn't expect anything less from Bridget!!!! I particularly loved the way they match each other's energy and unhingedness. I was living for the banter and the frenemy vibes, but when the slow burn started burning it was amazing, and just perfect. I enjoyed the complexity of their stories so much but also the integration of more serious topics like grief and depression, it was so very well woven into the story. If you enjoy childhood frenemies to lovers fueled by burning passion and driven by high stakes, then you will absolutely love A Follow Through In Faking

A Follow-Through in Faking

Another 5 star read from Bridget! I’ve loved all of her books so far and I’m so grateful to have gotten another arc. Catalina & Santi were so cute together and I loved how obsessed he was w her. One thing Bridget does extremely well is making loveable side characters and this book is no exception. You’re able to build a connection not just with the main characters but with the side characters too and it makes me excited for if this book ends up a series and if so who is up next.
