THE WEDDING AND THE CORGI
September 2025

"Weddings are silly things aren't they?"

on Bruce & Selina's Wedding Day...Alfred finds WONDER ROBIN looking for Robin Corgi puppy.

nearly as stupid as it sounds written down.

if this limited series ends on a serious note (Steve Trevor)..I'm going to get mad..just saying.

This was another strong and entertaining entry from King and Ortega. I really enjoyed the way Trinity’s time-tossed escapades continue to throw her into strange but fun situations — they’re lighthearted on the surface but still carry that emotional weight of legacy. I thought her perspective in the Batcave scene was especially charming; the moment with the giant penny genuinely made me smile because it showed her innocence and the generational gap in such a funny, human way.

What I appreciated most was how the book balances those small character beats with big, mythic scope. Trinity still feels new and fresh, but you can feel Wonder Woman’s influence and Batman’s shadow woven into her journey without it being heavy-handed. The humor lands, the heart is there, and the story is moving at a pace that keeps me engaged.

And I can’t not mention the cover — I got the DChew variant, & it is absolutely gorgeous, striking, and really captures the energy of the character. It made the book feel even more special in hand. Overall, this issue left me smiling and excited to see where Trinity’s adventures lead next.

*4.5* A bit wordy, as always for Tom King, but I’m willing to excuse it because I think it’s not unbelievably far off from what Alfred might sound like if narrating a story. This issue is helped a lot by “Wonder Robin” being by far the most entertaining of the three Lizzies. The fun shenanigans she got into with Alfred, Bruce’s stress level through the roof, Damian’s stubbornness shining through despite his small fluffy form, and the sweet motherly moment between Selina and Lizzie made this issue incredibly enjoyable. Alfred certainly didn’t teach Damian to tie his shoes as he never met Damian until he was way past the age for learning, but that moment between Alfred and Lizzie was so sweet I almost didn’t notice. It all takes this high-stakes superhero story and makes it feel so personal, so familial. Don’t we all wish we could make Alfred laugh and give him a big hug?

“She sighed and said she knew what she was requesting was ‘impopossible.’ And I told her, I have lived my life on the shadow of the bag. And from that vantage point, one learns life’s greatest lesson. Nothing is impopossoble.”

Overall, I have to admit, I didn’t really connect with or enjoy this issue. This time we see toddler Trinity as she chases Damian corgi to the wedding day of Bruce and Selina. I have to admit, it’s quite daring to revisit this day with how terribly everyone knows it ends, lol, but in a way I respect it. Unfortunately that respect only goes so far as this issue really didn’t do much to re-contextualize the events, but I will say the saving grace of this issue is the narrator…Alfred! The entire issue really asked place from the river Styx as Alfred crosses path with Steve Trevor who is making his best effort to escape. Alfred is able to take a moment to talk about the events that unfolded on that day when he ran into the young time traveling Elizabeth, and how much join it gave him seeing and experiencing her young heart. It’s so funny how the entire issue Alfred, Bruce, and Selina don’t take a moment to second guess the situation with Trinity, and just accept that she is who she says she is and they should just roll with it until it’s over. I haven’t read the batman wedding arc, so I have 0 idea how the characters were acting on that day, but I’m not the biggest fan of Bruce’s outbursts of stress filled anger at every minor inconvenience. I guess it does make sense that Selina will always be the calm and collected one in the relationship. But the bulk of the issue follows Alfred and Trinity running around the manor trying to get the Damian corgi, as he plays a game of grabbing objects and daring them to take it from him. Causing more destruction to that manor than most villains could. Eventually the person to stop the corgi is Selina herself, but before Trinity can do the responsible thing and get the corgi, she is distracted by Selina and her very expensive lipstick, which she stole. Selina even gives Trinity a cat ears diamond tiara, and Trinity completely forgets about Damian corgi. This leads him right into the hands of the other dog in the house at that time: ace! But instead of ripping the corgi to shreds, ace rolls over and starts playing with the corgi, after all it is Damian. The two then proceed to the bat cave where they cause even more destruction. Even causing the giant penny to somehow land on the Batmobile. Once everyone runs downstairs to see what is up, the only thing Trinity can think to say, is to comment on how big the penny is. After the entire stressful day, this causes Alfred to burst out laughing in a genuine nice moment of joy, and for Selina and Bruce to follow in that laughter. As Trinity and Alfred go to say goodbye, I’m not a huge fan of her decision to tell Alfred no one will end up getting married and then he will die. Not cool to tell him the future, but Alfred is a total sweetheart about it, and just spends the moment thinking about how much he laughed today with her. The issue comes to an end with Alfred giving a promise to Steve that they desperately want to come from him, and saying the line I quoted at the beginning about nothing being impossible. Will this series end with Steve coming back to life? 0 idea, but it’s not like the future currently displayed in the mainline WW series is going to happen anyway, so let’s throw some disruption in there to finally end it, lol.

This comic was delightfully absurd and delivered laughs a minute. I honestly prefer this over the Batman crossover in the main Wonder Woman book, mainly because 1, it isn't focused on him for most of the comic (actually focused on the titular character, what a novel concept), and 2, this actually takes the piss out of Batman instead of trying to feed his ego (see the Greek gods falling head over heel for Batman in the former work). Seeing Bruce slowly lose his mind due to stress of the wedding as well as Trinity's shenanigans had me rolling a couple of times, it was just so unexpected! Not only was this issue really funny, but it was also quite poignant as well. Told in narration by Alfred, which doesn't feel pointless here, unlike The Sovereign, because we see him grow a deep attachment to Trinity throughout the story. The ending bit was especially touching, with Trinity (and Robin Corgi) giving the Bat Family some much needed levity before the dark days ahead. I'm wondering if the ending is hinting at an Alfred resurrection at some point because it sure seems like it.

Alfred: "My apologies for Master Bruce...he does not normally suffer from such a quick temper."
Trinity: "Wait, but isn't he Batman?"
Alfred: "...I..."

Yep. She nailed that down real quick. lmao!

Alfred. Any time he appears, I just miss him so damn much. Because every time he reappears, we're reminded of how great he truly is.

I continue to LOVE this series. King can do no wrong with this character right now. Alfred has so many great moments in this issue and Elizabeth is absolutely adorable. I need this series to continue after the six issue run.

A perfect mix of humor, irrelevance and drama. Who knew Robin corgi could destroy everything in the span of a day. I also enjoyed having Alfred back even for a moment.

This series continues to be incredibly touching while dancing around the subject of grief. It’s kind and sweet and really captures the fun and learning of childhood.

Now young Trinity meets Alfred on the day Bruce is supposed to marry Selina.

The story is about three versions of Trinity chasing corgis who used to be Jon Kent and Damien Wayne through time. And I am having the time of my life. It’s so sweet and funny.
