Daisy Miller needs to save her book shop from going under, and she needs a plan fast. Her solution? Try out for TV's new Mystery Date show to get some free promotion. She just hadn't counted on winning a "date" with hot historian, Dr Joel Benjamin - or that Joel would be the tubby teen she'd commiserated with years ago after a blind date gone wrong.
Joel has put those painful teenage years behind him, throwing himself into his work, where he isn't judged by his looks. But meeting Daisy Miller is about to change his life in ways he never thought possible. But will Daisy ever believe that Joel can really, truly love her, when she's spent a lifetime feeling second best?

I had a hard time relating to the characters in Dating Daisy. We initially meet Joel in an academic setting and it appears that he's a fairly normal, typical, academic-type. But once he walks into Daisy's store, he spends much of the rest of the book coming across like much of a bumbling idiot. He can't remember Daisy's name for the next two or three times he's asked. He demonstrates clear disdain for her store, and most things about her. Even after Daisy and Joel become closer, he's quick to criticize and demean Daisy, even while he professes to be falling in love with her. A little bit of bumbling I would chalk up to a bit of social awkwardness, but his lack of empathy or ability to demonstrate basic tact and social aptitude just made his character a bit unbelievable.
I enjoyed getting to know Daisy and the struggles she was facing with her business. She has spent most of her life feeling second best - to her sisters, to her husbands, to everyone. So she has major self-esteem issues that, honestly, are not going to be addressed by the aforementioned socially-inept Joel. Yet off she goes to an island vacation with him. While I believe the author was trying to continue Daisy's issues with self-esteem and her struggles with social norms, I felt it completely unfathomable that she would be attending a fancy dinner on the island, with Hollywood types in formal gowns, while only wearing a t-shirt and jeans skirt. It just wouldn't be happening. Those types of scenarios just make the book seem unrealistic in many of its depictions of scenes.
I did like the story line and how it progressed, using the reality show as the impetus for much of what is happening to Joel and Daisy. Although the title of the book is a bit of a misnomer, as Joel doesn't really "date" Daisy, I was able to continue reading the story and enjoying aspects of it due to the story line - even when I wanted to smack Joel upside his head and bring him back to the reality of his social awkwardness. This was a short, easy read and if you can handle a male lead who sometimes makes you want to pull your fingernails out from the roots, you'll enjoy reading Dating Daisy.
Dating Daisy by Joanne Hill was a quick read. I found a few errors but nothing huge. The pace was fast and since I didn't read the summary or any reviews before I started reading it, I had no idea what it was about besides the title.
So the story goes something like this Daisy owns her own book store (small, quaint and charming, I've always wanted to own my own store) geared toward older individuals and off the main shopping strip. Sadly to say her story was failing she needed to save it.
I did find the ending to be to quick almost to choppy, but that's just me. The story was a good read. I will advice that it did have some adult scenes nothing to graphic.
Sweet love story -a great weekend escape We begin the story where Daisy Miller, a quirky book-store owner trying to keep her business afloat after several setbacks. She goes out on a limb to rescue her struggling business by gaining some publicity on a local TV dating show and is surprised by meeting an acquaintance she has recently met and has a startling attraction to, a hot historian Dr.Joel Benjamin, and they win a prize of a weekend away at a luxury resort. She discovers he is actually an acquaintance from 10 years in her past after their dates stood them up on a double blind date. Both have trust issues, obstacles and doubts to overcome, and in between both of their insecurities, they find love. This book is lighthearted and fun, and Daisy is hopefully optimistic and funny, despite her bad luck with men and relationships. It was hard to put down, and a great distraction for a lazy Sunday. Enjoyed this book immensely!
I enjoyed this story. The way Joel and Daisy ended up on the dating show was believable - he because his brother-in-law coerced him, she to gain visibility for her store. Though the relationship did involve the couple sleeping together, that part of the story was pg or pg-13. (Which is good in my mind - I don't like reading details like that, though my preference is to not have them sleep together at all).
Crazy little read set in New Zealand. Cute tale Daisy has terrible luck with guys and is trying to make a go of a book store in her Grandma's honor. Daisy isn't very self confident and she learns a lot about herself in this tale. She goes on a Mystery Dating show to promote her store. Joel Benjamin is a History Professor who advised on a movie so he is riding a celebrity wave and is asked to be on the same Mystery Dating show. Quirky little love story.
With a lot of humor and a little angst Joanne Hill really grabs your attention and holds it with Dating Daisy. Daisy and Joel make a very mismatched but so right for each other couple! I've found my new favorite author from New Zealand. I love the style of the characters as real people I'd like to hang out with. I would recommend this author and this story to any reader that enjoys humorous romances.
This book was fun from start to finish. From 10 years in the past a double blind date to a new dating show on TV this book is just funny and the characters are very likable.
I would recommend this book to like anyone who likes romantic comedy.
A hunk of a college professor, a struggling shop owner meet. Thanks to a promise from years ago Joel finds himself on a dating game. But lo and behold the date he chooses is daisy, shop owner, who knows his big sister. Will sparks fly? Or will it be a disaster? One thing is for sure, a free all expense paid trip will be enjoyed by them both.
Cute story, set in NZ about a book shop owner on the brink of bankruptcy and a semi-famous historian hottie.
This was well written, with an interesting history of these two, but it's practically insta-love and that's a turnoff for me without more meat in the story. This is a light read, no intrigue, cheating or lying, and no super steamy sex scenes.
the story and how people came to getter is one that lets you know that normal people can get confused and other people can try to. Burt a relationship..
