This is a collection of (allegedly) true stories set in Colorado. The first concerns the "Granby idol", an artifact found in the summer of 1920 and possibly of pre-Columbian Chinese origin, which has since disappeared, possibly in the back storerooms of a museum somewhere, and known today only from photos and written accounts. The next 3 are stories of a reincarnation (Bridey Murphy), and ghosts. Then follow several tales of Colorado's Old West - miners, desperados, con men and lost treasures. Coming up to more recent times, in the past 50-60 years Colorado had its share, at least, of sightings of UFOs and extraterrestrials. The Condon investigation of UFOs in the mid 1960's was done out of the University of Colorado. The last story is about a high altitude cemetery haunted at night by spook lights, bringing us back around to the allegedly supernatural. All in all, an entertaining read.

This book was really a lot of fun to read! Ranging in topics from unsolved murders to UFOs to ghosts to buried treasure, this little book had 14 full chapters of really interesting history from the state of Colorado. Even though I was already aware of much of the material in the book, the narrative style made it seem new and exciting. Illustrations and historical photos contributed to the flow and kept up the interest as well. I also appreciated the information at the end of each chapter telling how visitors could safely and legally visit the places where these events occurred.

I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who actually lives in Colorado, but for those of us in the rest of the world with a fascination for the mysterious and the bizarre, this book still has plenty to offer...and so does the author! This book is actually just one in a series covering the mysterious history from various states in the west/southwest.
