Books on the economic history of the United States are hard to find, so this book despite its age is well worth finding. Written in the mid 1960s, this book shows its age in many of the passages, but it still provides an excellent overview of the major economic changes taking place in the United States from 1876 to 1900. The book includes excellent period photographs and illustrations which are amazing! Likewise, the author included many maps, charts and graphs which assist the reader in digesting all the trends. Carl N. Degler's writing is welcomed by the readers as the book is easy to read and moves along comfortably. What a delight to find a technical book that is not dry as toast! One of the great features of this book is the "Suggested Reading" section at the end of each chapter where Degler reviews various sources for the reader and provides suggestions for both the casual reader and researcher alike. I highly recommend this book to people interested in economic history!
