Cole Shoot by Michael Maxwell This story follows Cole and his friend Kelly attend the dragon parade. Love that they have a picnic there as the floats go by. Problem is there is gunfire among the gang members... Story also follows Marco and Mei, both downs syndrome kids and something goes wrong at the school they attend one day and they run away. Love how they navigate and survive and how Marco had first seen Cole, the small things that matter. Story also follows Anthony who's an intern, who Cole knows from previous years, and he's on the story of the parade shooting, he gets kidnapped.... Like how Cole knows he can't do the job himself and calls in reinforcements, with bats. Love how all these events play into one meeting at the end. Action, fast paced, scary situations and so many more emotions. love the secretary problem and how a PI had confronted him about missing kids.... His time with family and friends and longtime lyrics of songs I know. Love how the whole thing comes together, never saw it happening. Things to do in the city and the areas, I’m learning more about, have known of them but author really brings them to life in front of your eyes. Mix of real life people on the street Next book is the series is excerpted at the end.
Mr. Maxwell has done it again! This book grabbed my attention from the first page and kept me glued until the end. I love catching up with my old friends, Cole Sage, family and friends. We also meet a new friend in this book, Hannah, Cole's new secretary. This had the twists and turns we love to see. This book deals with a few issues, gang violence, the innocence of children and how far one would go to protect someone he loves. Not all decisions are easy to make. We may agonize over decisions we have made, had moral dilemmas and doubt ourselves. But for those we love how far is far enough? This is a great stand alone but as I have said in earlier reviews, I do recommend you read this series in order. You cone to know Cole and see so many changes in him. You meet his family and friends. You come to see why he makes decisions he makes and he will become an old friend you can't wait to catch up with. I eagerly await the next Cole Sage book! I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This did not effect my review one way or the other. I have been hooked on Cole Sage since I read Diamonds and Cole.
I have read several books by this author and wasn't disappointed with any of them. I find there is a subtle moral lesson in each novel that is refreshing by today's standards.
Excellent mystery about a newspaper man who isn't perfect but has a strong sense of right and wrong and a desire to make things better. Not over loaded with sex and profanity like many crime novels. I really enjoyed this book.
One of the good things about a Cole Sage book is that they do not need to be read in order. Cole is a reporter from Chicago, with a knack for getting to the bottom of things and digging up the facts. For the past several years he has been working for the Chronicle in San Francisco. Five years ago, Cole had a run in with street gang member Anthony Perez. Seeing a smart young man with the potential for a good future, he pays for Anthony to go to Journalism school. Now he is back as an intern for Cole. His very first assignment, track down a shooting of a New Years Eve parade, gets him kidnapped. Cole needs to call in help for this one. Well worth the read!
A whole lot of action from beginning to end! Cole finds himself in the middle of rival gangs after a heartbreaking shooting at the Chinese New Year parade. There is a spotlight on Down Syndrome children and the need for support and love communities need to show as Cal Corwin is looking for help finding two runaways plus more side stories with Cole and family plus friends. A very satisfying San Francisco adventure!
Just love this series. Enjoy watching the characters evolve. And he doesn't introduce so many new characters you loose tract. And can easily keep track of the main characters.
Very good story, and very relevant to today’s news. This book combines a gang style shooting during a very public parade, two Downs Syndrome kids, Cole and his girlfriend and a new very talented apprentice. Lots of action and tension, and really moves well. I love this book!
These suspense novels are five star and anyone whom enjoy a mystery. I suggest to pick this series up. The author has a easy going way of putting words to paper. Worthy storytelling.
There are major sections of missing pages, so the story is completely disjointed. It very well may be well written and a good mystery but I can't tell!
Re-appearance of character's from previous books in this theme. Includes two different story lines that converge at points during the book. Another good read.
Embarrassing effort after the genius that was book 4 in this series. Felt like a rough draft or something rushed to publication. Tense changes, grammatical, and typographic errors abounded. No depth of character. I'll probably finish the series, but it feels like the author has tuned out.
Micheal Maxwell has done it again. Cole and Kelly are attending the annual Chinese New Year celebration in San Francisco. They give a ride to the partner of Cole’s boss who is part of the dragon wearing very distinctive tennis shoes with red stars on the toes. Chris is very flamboyant and brags about how excited he is. They are all to meet up later. Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen. A gang of Chinese thugs known as Firecracker Boyz (FCBZ on their hats and shirts) show up with guns and proceed to randomly shoot into the parade killing several people including Chris. Cole is tasked with investigating who did it, why they did it, and write an article in his newspaper. Returning to his office he finds a new intern waiting in his office. The new intern is none other than Antonio Perez, the young hood from Cole’s Los Angeles visit when he helped Antonio see there was another way to live. Antonio left the life and went to college. He is now interning at The Chronicle and has been assigned to Cole. Cole send him off to investigate the China Town events, tells him to be careful. Antonio winds up being captured by the FCBZ gang. Cole goes down to see where Antonio is and meets up with the gang, who tell him to get one of their own out of jail in exchange for freeing Antonio. It is not a secret that Antonio is being held but Cole knows that if he involves the police, the gang will kill Antonio. What to do? This is the dilemma in this book. Cole is a good guy but he knows what he must do. Bring in the Los Angeles friends from when Antonio was in LA and let them deal with freeing Antonio. The book is a terrific example of how a good guy does what he must do to save someone he loves. Cole is the kind of guy we would all like to be. There is a story within the story about two kids running away from home because their teacher was mean to them. Read this book as a stand alone or read Book #1 and then read this one...unless you want a treat and then get the entire series of Books 1-9.
Cole and Kelly are progressing in their relationship as Anthony Perez begins an internship at the Chronicle. Anthony, a former gangbanger Cole rescued years earlier is working on his Master's degree and his first assignment gets this story moving. He gets taken hostage by the gang that was involved in the Chinese New Year's parade shootout. You'll like the end result and Cole and Kelly have reached a milestone in their relationship. Thanks for another great read.
