The Spare's Season of Light: Historical Christian Romance

Rate this book
A determined young woman. A charming but misguided gentleman. When their paths cross, can God use unlikely means to change them both?In this uplifting Regency romance, an intelligent young woman from the countryside reluctantly accepts guidance from an infuriating gentleman of the ton. But his teasing sparks more than irritation—and soon challenges her resolve in ways she never expected.

She thinks he is arrogant and vain …
The Davis family has newly entered the gentry through their unusual connection to the Earl of Saunton. Now the earl insists Emma Davis and her sister join them for the London Season. Emma would much prefer to remain in Somerset, but her sister is eager to meet eligible gentlemen. For her sibling’s sake, Emma agrees despite the aggravation of the earl’s brother, Peregrine Balfour, whose manners are as polished as his pride. She determines not to let him sway her head ... or her heart.

He thinks she is provincial, yet compelling …
Peregrine Balfour is shocked by his brother’s latest scheme—fetching a country girl and preparing her for polite society. There are far more pleasurable ways to spend the Season. Yet, as he instructs Emma in the ways of the ton, he begins to see past her plain gowns and forthright manner to the steadfast and spirited young woman beneath.

As pride softens and first impressions give way to respect, both must decide whether they will cling to their own stubborn ways—or trust that God’s plans may be far better than their own.

I really love historical fiction and apparently especially the regency era, because somehow I keep coming back to it. This is book is no exception to these things. It has a lot of regency details making it an interesting read. I loved how the plot developed and what happened. I can't really give a spoiler, but it has maturity and emotional intelligence. A good example of how things could be handled in a plot. I worried it might make it a little boring, but I was very wrong. It only added nuisance and a creative way of making the plot interesting instead of just the misunderstanding trope. With a same kind of situation the character and their struggles/problems got talked about well. Showing a depth to these characters.

I liked how it was very clearly a Christian Romance, but it was subtle. So it wasn't a main topic, but it was just there part of daily life and every page. I don't know how this normally is, because this is the first real Christian Romance I read, but I really liked that aspect of it.

The romance was incredibly good it was sweet and kind. It had sparks that made it feel real. They had struggles, but together and with help from others they got through it. Seeing that their problems weren't impossible to get past and live happily.

All in all I'm glad I picked up this Regency Romance. It has everything you want romance, cute interactions and caring family/ friend dynamics. Your heart will be full of love after you put this book down. I kindly received this advanced readers copy from Booksirens and the publishers for my honest review.

The Spare’s Season of Lights is a beautifully written continuation of the series, carrying forward the same heartfelt internal dialogue that readers have come to love. Once again, the characters’ conversations with God bring depth and authenticity, reminding us of the power of faith to guide, strengthen, and bring wisdom in times of uncertainty.

The heroine is an absolute delight—spirited, compassionate, and beautifully imperfect. Watching her push past her own fears and anxieties to support her sister’s dreams was inspiring and heartwarming. Her courage and devotion reflect the very best of Christian fiction: not perfect faith, but faith lived out in vulnerability and grace.

The hero’s struggle, rooted in deep-seated self-loathing and echoes of childhood trauma, transcends time and class, offering a poignant exploration of how pain shapes identity—and how love and faith can offer redemption. The author handles these themes with tenderness and emotional intelligence, creating a story that feels timeless and deeply human.

Fans of the series will be thrilled by this latest installment, and Regency readers looking for a novel rich in faith, heart, and emotional depth will find much to love here.Thank you to the publisher and BookSirens for providing an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

I couldn't put this book down! This is book 3 in the Brides of the Regency series and like the others in this series it is well written with characters showing depth as they deal with hard issues while growing their faith.

Perry is at a crossroads in his life - he can continue aimlessly and destructively or follow the guidance of his brother Richard (the Earl) & his wife Sophia and find something constructive to do. But to move on he needs to acknowledge and deal with his past and he's not sure if he can do this. When asked to go and meet Emma and convince her to come to London to help with his nephew Ethan he is surprised by his reaction to Emma. She challenges him while also needing his support and reassurance. Can he step up and be the man she needs him to be?

This book touches on issues of redemption and self-forgiveness. Of moving deliberately towards a different future by breaking the bonds of the past. I really enjoyed the internal dialogues and impact of faith and prayers throughout. There was lots of depth and emotion throughout this story that kept you drawn into the story and rooting for the happily ever after.

Being the third book of the series I personally think it is best read after book 1 and 2. I have found this series a delight to read and look forward to book 4! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is a sweet historical romance that is the third installment of the series. I feel that it could be read as a stand alone but the entire series is excellent. Peregrine (Perry) suffered abuse at the hand of his father and has allowed his upbringing to turn him into a rouge. He is dispatched to the country by his brother Richard to get Emma a cousin to Perry's nephew. His nephew misses Emma and Richard feels that having Emma close will help his son make the transition into his new family easier. Emma and Perry spar at every chance and she make Perry question who is and what he wants out of life. He feels that due to his upbringing he is not worthy of her and constantly battles the idea of having her in his life and pushing her out of his life. Emma is a calming constant in the lives of her family and friends and recognizes the past hurts are keeping Perry from being all he can be. Will Perry push her to the point that there is not return? Can they overcome the trauma he suffered as a child? I promise once you start reading you will want to read to the end to find out how it will all end.

I loved her first two books. This one spends
too much time near the bedroom. It keeps
alluding to Heavenly
Father in prayer but
sitting on the edge of the passion precipice. I put it away because it was too much like books written without much story but just about sex to draw one in. I read what the author said at the end about peoples lives who were upended by the adults around them.
But I also believe that most people, even good ones fall off that precipice by getting too close to the edge.
I prefer a clean read and this book hangs on the edge. People who try to save others this way usually lose their moral compass and self respect.
I can have compassion for those whose lives are ruined by evil adults but this is a poor way of helping and not putting oneself at risk.

I just love all the books that I have read from Isabel Jacobs. I love that they are clean romance. I loved this book. It was uplifting even though Perry had a rough past. The way the book was written was uplifting while also keeping you on your toes. I truly didn't want to put the book down. Any spare minute I had, my phone was out and I was reading. I love this book series, and I am so excited for the next book to come out.

I would highly recommend this book, series, and author!! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily because I really loved this book!

Perry (the Earl's brother) is sent to retrieve Ethan's beloved Emma. Ethan hasn't been sleeping and they hope she can help them discover the cause. Emma is not impressed because the Earl mishandled bringing Ethan to his father. Perry has to figure a way around this. He does and sparks start to fly between them.

He doesn't feel worthy and has many hang ups due to the way their father raised Perry. This results in many misunderstandings and Perry lashing out inappropriately. Fortunately, they do come to terms (eventually). Read this charming story and see how faith and patience bring everyone around.

I’m a sucker for transformational stories, and this one absolutely delivered. Watching Peregrine’s growth unfold was both rewarding and inspiring. I loved the chemistry between Peregrine and Emma—the witty banter, the slow-burn romance, and especially Peregrine’s vulnerability, which made his journey feel real and heartfelt.

The ending was incredibly satisfying and genuinely funny; it caught me off guard and had me laughing out loud.

Another great CN Jarrett/Isabel Jacobs. These series are the same stories, CN Jarrett is clean and Isabel Jacobs is the religious version. Both are great but really can't read both since they are the same story. I enjoyed Emma's story and her happy ending. She is introduced in the first book through the Earl looking for his son.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is the third in a series and it helps to read them in order. I enjoyed the banter between the main characters and their desire to grow and change in areas where they needed to. It is a clean Christian romance where the characters seek God's help as they work through issues. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I love this series, this book does not disappoint! I feel that Isabel writes truly real characters and does not shy away from dirty, sinful pasts.
I loved the banter in this book but also the redemption Arcs for the characters.
