USA best-selling Ann Major writes short, sexy contemporary romance.
Nora Roberts has described her work thusly: "Engaging characters, stories that thrill and delight, shivering suspense, and captivating romance." and Sandra Brown says, "Her name on the cover instantly identifies the book as a good read."
Wow this is one of those cases where I wish the hero weren't celibate, and unfortunately it seems he has been celibate for years! Never have I witnessed such a bad person as this heroine here. She meets the hero because he's dating his younger sister (16) and as soon as he meets her he stops dating her sister and dates her. They have a love affair and he asks her to move with him, but she sees him in a compromising situation with her sister and the sister confirms he seduced her and they had sex. The lil slut was also dating his younger brother while the hero and the heroine dated. The heroine is appalled, especially when, after some weeks, her sister is pregnant. She dumps the hero that doesn't make much fuss, and this was his second big mistake (the first was to date the heroine's slutty sister, even if he didn't do anything with her apparently) The heroine pretends to be her sister so she can have her son, and the hero forces her to marry him as soon as he finds out she had his son. Much misunderstanding here, because of course, as you all may guess without me having to spoil it, the child is his brother's. But nobody knows it, beside SS. The heroine keeps rejecting him, even if he tries in every way to understand her rejection and to ask her to take him back. He thinks she's hurt because she had to have their child without him (that was her choice though) The poor man can see his son only once a year, a month during summer. She hates the sight of him. SS made her promise she will never have anything to do with him. When the child is severely ill, the hero is back, and he decides he will have a real marriage with the heroine and be a father to their son. -Ok, I understand that the heroine believed the child to be the hero's since the boy looked like him, but why she complied with her ss histerical requests I just don't know. -She could have told him what she had seen and what ss told her, it would have been only a matter of one single conversation. -She tried to protect ss because the idiot teenager tried to kill herself (I wish she succeeded) and was scared she could try again, but she kept her son as if he was hers, so I don't know what else she could have done. -Even in the end, when ss confesses that she lied, the heroine isn't so mad and angry as she should. -It was so sad to see a honorable man as the hero continuously pushed away by that nasty heroine with every awful word she could find, and it was so angsty when he told her that he never had anyone who loved him and cared for him, and that all he wanted was to have a family of his own. Even if the heroine believed him guilty to seduce her ss she should have told him he had a child. Her ss' misery was completely her own fault, not the hero's and not the heroine's. -The hero eventually forgives her, even after she tells him how she deceived him, and for once I wish he pushed her away or maybe admitted being unfaithful during all those years they have been married and she rejected him repeatedly. She would have deserved it. But nope, he was too honest and too in love with that bigot frigid woman that he couldn't have ow. Sharon Kendrick, Robyn Donalds and Lynne Graham would surely have made him stray a lot, and this time it wouldn't have bothered me. His only fault was to date for a little time the heroine's stupid sister, that of course told him she was much older than her 16. For once, I stand on the hero's side. Evil ss was never punished and disappeared in thin air. Meh. Two stars because I'm feeling generous.
What a horrible but engrossing read. A sister gets pregnant with her sisters boyfriends baby and she raises it as her own. Hating the Father for his infidelity and with a sixteen year old girl to boot. They do end up getting married but she was forced to as he was fighting for custody. I do think Nick, the H, loved Amy and he definitely loved his son. they were separated for years due to her hatred. And her sister too. She didn't want to hurt her sister. The sister was a spoiled rotten jealous brat. I was angry at both the sister and the h throughout most of the book. She needed to forgive because sometimes sisters are evil. Poor Nick, waited all those years for her to love him. Or at least I think he did but it was never spelled out. Triple the little boy was a handful for sure. I liked him and I was glad how the story turned out. Now I have to read the rest of the series.
Contemporary (Pre-smartphone) second chance romance. WOW! This was a complicated plot line with secret pregnancies, lies and more lies. Nicholas and Amy where in love as early adults (20 to his 23) when a younger sister decides to break everything up with some bad choices. We get a cute 7 year old, 'Triple' who has a medical problem which brings everyone together to hash out the lies and secrets and save a marriage. HEA. No one in this story is innocent because there is a lot of lies and mistakes. Maybe Nicholas is the only one that never lies but he doesn't dig deep to find out the truth either. Frustrated with this crazy car crash of a story. 180 pages and kindle freebie 2 stars
Ah, now I understand. I didn't know until after I read this book that it was originally published in 1988. So that explains the angsty stupid plot.
This book and these characters made little sense to me. Why Amy made many of the choices she did made no sense. Why Nick just sat back and was so passive in his own family made little sense. A story that hinges on one misunderstanding that could be cleared up with one mature conversation made little sense.
I guess that's the biggest issue. Everything they do is selfish and immature. Triple was cute and he should've been the main priority and loyalty in both their lives.
I got 6 pages into the book before I was completely lost but I decided to give it more time and it didn't get any better. I didn't finish it and I deleted it off my kindle, I love reading and have tons of them and this is the first one I ever wanted my money back on. So don't believe the jacket because this book makes no sense and is super hard to get into and follow
The was beautifully written, no doubt about that. I knew the book was first published in 1988 and I was really wanting to read something of that age, you know, as a bit of a journey back into the romances I loved reading in the 80's. Unfortunately I've decided it was too much of a journey. Sigh. Could not make myself finish it. In the 80's, I would have been clinging onto every word and would have given it a great rating - but I suppose I'm too used to the modern romances now. Never mind.😞
First of all, this was originally published in 1988. Back then, I would have given it 5 stars, 30 years later this scenario is a bit frustrating and predictable. I AM glad I read it tho. A great storyline, with persevering love on Nick's side, as he truly was an innocent. Amy's on again off again attitude because of her and her sister's lies just got redundant and I was truly looking forward to the end when everything would hopefully right itself. Their son, nicknamed Triple for the trouble he could get into, was bonus and made me chuckle quite often. A good read, not great, by today's standards, but like an old nostalgic movie, I liked it.
Passion's Child is my first read by Ann Major. I went into it with no expectations and it was so wonderful. A heartfelt sizzling second-chance romance with characters that leapt off the page. I loved it and can't wait to read more!
"Passion's Child (Texas: Children of Destiny #1)" by Ann Major was a book I was given to read for an honest review on Bookfunnel. I really liked this story. What happens when you love someone, and your sister sleeps with him only to find herself pregnant with his child? Then posing as the baby's mother to protect her sibling and keeping this lie and secret going. There is quite a bit to this story and it definitely is a page-turner.
Does A Marriage Based On Lies Get A Second Chance? This is the first book in the Texas: Children of Destiny Series. A great book that will keep you page turning and wanting more. A story of lies, secrets and deception and how they impact our lives. The story of Nick and Amy will take you on an emotional roller coaster. Great chemistry and a second chance?
Amy was totally in love with nick many yrs ago. But one night her sister told her that she had slept with him and later said the babie she carried was his. So she did what anyone would do and stay angry at him and keep the secret. But one day she started to suspect there was more, and oh boy was there more.
When an ungrateful sixteen lies it became her sister's secret. And a marriage based on those lies became harmful. That is what happened here. Now years later the husband wants his family together. Will the lies be exposed and all forgiven?
An unforgotten love marriage by deceit sisters secrets lies and ruined lives. A little means a lot. A good read with heartache and troubles defeated when all the mistakes and lies come to the surface and one little boy gets all he wished for
One thing's for sure, the author must have gone into man-hating radical feminist mode when she wrote this. I wouldn't blame the H if he went MGTOW instead of being a beta simp! And both the bitchy h and her 304 sister should have drowned in the Pacific!
I liked the story and the characters. However a bit disappointed with some words and emotions which was repetitive . Otherwise the story line was good.
I really enjoyed the story of Amy and Nick. What I liked the most is there were many secrets in this book. You knew Amy and Nick had a past but you don't know the whole extent of it at first so you have many questions and assumptions! Their little boy becomes sick and Nick and Amy are brought back together. Nick wants to make his marriage work but Amy feels she can't based on the fact that she has so many secrets and has been hurt so badly by Nick. Nick is a great guy, he loves Amy so much! The story was emotional, sweet, sexy and suspenseful. Great start to a series, can't wait to read about the other characters.
Ann Major pulls you right into the story of Nick, Amy and Triple. The secrets and twists and turns keep you reading. If you enjoy a good romance, it's all here. Nick and Amy are as stubborn as they are passionate. And the son who helps bring them together is precocious as they come. Tuck this one into your beach bag. You won't regret it.
Another good read. This story has mystery, secrets and steam along with a love interest. I had it figured by the third chapter, but the story was interesting enough to continue the story. Good read and worth the time spent.
Boy and girl. Her sister and his brother. One child. Bet you can't guess what happens next. Rats. You did. Predictability in a love story has its place.
