I am so honoured to have read this book early, as I was sent an ARC copy. I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately, but this book pulled me straight out.
Firstly, this book has absolutely beautiful writing. I highlighted so many quotes that I absolutely loved, and I found certain language choices to be striking yet original! The setting was described so perfectly that it felt like a film was playing in my head, I could picture every scene and hear every interaction. Such a talent to do so :)
The characters in this story were so well developed. Each of them had such a strong sense of self that they felt like real people I knew in my own life. I particularly loved the guards and their banter with one another, it was hilarious to read about, especially Felix! The main character Esme was the most loveable character of all however, and I love how she stuck to her kindness and compassion throughout everything she went through. What an amazing creation of a main character!
The romance was so wholesome and heartwarming, having the perfect build up before they got together. I was rooting for them from the get go!
The plot was so well written, and the twists had me shocked! I binged over half of this book in one day because I could NOT put it down, and I needed to find out what happened next. It was no where near predictable, with twists hiding around each page. And the ending!!! I’m going to need book 2 immediately!!
Thank you again Emma for sending me an ARC copy. You are such a talented writer, and I will 100% be reading any other books you release in the future ❤️

The world the author created is amazing! The characters stole my heart. This book inspired me. It had my heart pounding with suspense, the romance melted my heart into a puddle, and I was completely captivated from beginning to end!
The dreamy forbidden romance between Rowan and Esme made my heart soo happy! Esme and Rowan are both incredible characters that I love! They have so many good qualities and radiated so much goodness, they are inspiring!

••I give 5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
~SHE HAS NO MEMORY OF THE FIRE THAT NEARLY CLAIMED HER LIFE, BUT HER ENEMIES REMEMBER...
“The truth is, opposition will always face us. We all have to choose which side we stand on.”
-WHERE THE CINDERS WHISPER, is dear book 1 in the Woven Fates series, a Cinderella-an inspired fairytale in which duty, desire, and destiny collide. This clean romantic adventure is filled beautifully with spirited heroines, found familes, and the wonder of self discovery. This is a dear story where loyalty can easily cost lives and secrets are currency. This dear story shows that goodness, kindness, and love will always fun and conquer with power and beauty. It is worth reading!🙌🏻📚🩷✨
I was really excited to read this book - the premise sounded so intriguing! I can definitely say I wasn’t disappointed.
From the very first chapter, I fell in love with all the characters. Frank and Grace, for example, were so well developed - they felt real and genuine, as though I actually knew and cared for them. I was amazed by the building of relationships between each of the characters : the guards’ brotherly love as they teased and tormented one another, the budding friendships that grew throughout, and of course the tenderness and devotion between a few special couples. I could name every single character and describe their portrayed depth, but this review would never end!
The story is so enthralling! From the beautiful tales of romance, to the thrilling battles and endless plot twists - I audibly gasped so many times while reading!
I feel privileged to have been sent an ARC! I am really looking forward to the next book - we were left on such a cliffhanger in the epilogue! Thank you for creating this fabulous escape for me- you’re such a wonderful writer and I can’t wait to read more! 🫶
If you’re looking for a book to get lost in, look no further! From the start, it captured my attention and knew I’d be finding those moments I could put my feet up and continue to get lost in Esmeralda’s journey. I loved the characters and the whit and banter especially between the band of brothers. Esme is a courageous, strong woman not only on the outside but shines beauty within. This book sends beautiful messages throughout. It’s very easy to read and follow and it feels the author has that in mind as it is easy to visualise in your mind what is going on. A very enjoyable read. Highly recommend.
I really enjoyed this book. A gentle romance, surrounded by interesting characters, an exciting plot with unexpected twists. I loved the banter between the guards. I can’t wait for the next one and highly recommend it to other people.
✨🔥👑 ARC Review: Where the Cinders Whisper by Emma Kate Ferreira ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5 stars for this enchanting, soul-stirring fairytale fantasy Where the Cinders Whisper feels like standing in the middle of an ember-lit dream — soft, perilous, and full of wonder. Emma Kate Ferreira spins a story that is both tender and powerful, where forgotten memories burn quietly beneath the surface and destiny flickers like candlelight through smoke. Esme was never meant to be ordinary. Raised in a humble cottage, her only hints of the past are a single slipper and a dream full of whispers. But when assassins come for her and a brotherhood of charming, secretive guards enters her world, she learns that she’s the key to something far greater — and far more dangerous — than she ever imagined. And then there’s Rowan. Loyal. Forbidden. The kind of protector who makes the word duty sound like heartbreak. Their connection is a spark that refuses to fade, even as the shadows of tyranny threaten to snuff it out. Ferreira’s prose glows — lyrical, immersive, and threaded with hope. Where the Cinders Whisper is a story about courage, love that defies crowns and curses, and a heroine who must learn that even ashes can bloom again. If you love: 👑 Fairytales rewritten with grace and fire 🔥 Forbidden romance with heart-wrenching tension 🌿 Found family & witty guard banter 🕯️ Secrets, destiny, and whispered dreams 💎 Clean, romantic adventure with lyrical prose …then Where the Cinders Whisper will sweep you away in its golden light. 💫 Aesthetic Vibe: Flickering candles in a forgotten hall, slippers made of starlight, laughter echoing through castle corridors, the scent of ash and roses, and the whisper of fate in the dark. ⚠️ Content Warnings: * Clean romance (no explicit content or language) * Mild fantasy violence and peril * Themes of memory loss, loss, and political oppression 📖 Final Thoughts: Where the Cinders Whisper is the beginning of something luminous — a fairytale reborn in fire and heart. It’s for readers who crave courage wrapped in beauty, loyalty forged in danger, and love that dares to rise from the ashes. - Elizabeth
As someone who absolutely LOVES fairytale retellings I was beyond excited to get to ARC read this story, and let me tell you it did not disappoint! This may be my new favorite fairytale retelling ever!
Where the Cinders Whisper combines multiple beloved fairytales and folktales in a beautifully intricate story.
Esme was raised by godparents on a small out-of-the-way farm. She is a kind, caring, compassionate, strong, fiercely loyal, and protective young woman with a strong sense of fairness and justice. When she is shocked by the news that she is a lost princess, she quickly, albeit somewhat apprehensively, steps up to assume her proper place and save her kingdom from her wicked and cruel stepmother.
Rowan is a member of the royal guard assigned to the protection of Esme and an elite member of those who are loyal to her instead of the current Queen. Duty bound to protect her, Rowan stands by her side through everything in order to help her reclaim her throne and save their people.
As her journey becomes more dangerous, Esme and Rowan end up growing steadily closer and grow to care for each other more than either planned. With a requirement to marry in order to assume the throne, and a plot for the Queen to marry her off in order to retain control, Esme and Rowan must fight for themselves, their people, and for their ability to be together.
I was rooting for this couple from the minute I met them and every moment between them along the way was beautiful! This is a couple that fought, sacrificed, protected, and loved each other from the start!
This is an absolute must read for everyone, but especially lovers of fairytale retellings and clean romance.
There is a bit of violence in this story, but it is not overly detailed or gory and we do get a happily ever after.
Thank you to Emma Kate Ferreira for including me on her ARC team! I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
Wow! Where the Cinders Whisper is an exciting, Cinderella-inspired debut that had me quickly turning the pages! Emma Kate Ferreira brilliantly weaves an action-packed, romantic fairytale with an endearing princess, a brave, protective guard, a cruel stepmother queen, & a kingdom in need of saving. I absolutely adored this forbidden romance fairytale with creative nods to Cinderella & other fairytales combined with a unique story that completely pulled me in.
Esme’s quiet life in the forest with her godparents is suddenly destroyed by a group of assassins. Though she escapes their attempt, she learns the meaning of the dreams/nightmares she’s had since a child & her secret identity as a princess. Now destined to return to her kingdom to save her people from her cruel stepmother’s tyrannical reign, she depends on a group of loyal guards to help her safely reach her new home. One handsome guard in particular is always there when she needs him & proves his loyalty time & again.
When they finally reach the palace, Esme’s caught in a web of secrets, lies, & treachery that will test her future as a leader. Going up against her cruel stepmother takes everything she has to stay alive & protect those she loves. As her forbidden relationship with Rowan turns from friendship to love, will she choose duty or following her heart?
I loved this book! Esme is so kind & compassionate. I loved seeing her grow from a somewhat timid young woman into a strong yet benevolent princess. Rowan is a dream! He’s the epitome of a protective, loving hero whose loyalty & goodness shine through. I also loved Esme’s godparents, the brotherhood of guards with all their delightful banter, & all her new found friends especially Lady Marie.
There are plenty of twists & surprises that kept me quickly turning the pages. I loved all the creative nods to Cinderella & other fairytales like Sleeping Beauty & Snow White. Highly recommend this delightful, kissing only romance to historical romance & fairytale fans. Looking forward to the next book in the series! I received an advanced copy from the author with no expectation of a positive review. All opinions are completely my own & provided voluntarily.
“With the moonlight glinting on the delicate curves of the shoe, Esme made a silent vow: she would uncover the truth. She would find the other half of what was missing. And perhaps then, the dreams—and the screams—would finally let her rest.”
Raised in a quiet cottage with only her godparents and a cow for company, Esme’s past is a mystery—save for a child’s shoe and dreams full of whispered secrets. But when deadly assassins come calling, she’s thrust into a world of betrayal, politics, and forbidden romance, where she must find the strength to rewrite her story before darkness claims her.
I ABSOLUTELY LOOOOOOVED this book! 🙌 As a longtime fantasy reader, I can’t tell you how rare it is to find clean fantasy that still feels rich, epic, and completely captivating. Emma Kate Ferreira’s Where the Cinders Whisper blew me away with its fairytale threads (Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Snow White fans, you’ll see the magic woven in ✨), swoony romance, and characters who leap off the page. Esme is the kind of heroine you root for from page one, Rowan is the perfect match who makes her shine even brighter, and the side characters? I want books for all of them!
This story had me hooked, heart racing, and left me desperate for book 2 in the Woven Fates series. If you love fantasy filled with adventure, found family, and a heroine who discovers her own strength, this one is for you.
Available now—I cannot recommend it enough! 📚✨
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Content/Triggers: sword & bow-and-arrow fighting, mild peril, manipulation/intimidation, loss of loved ones, romance (kisses only).
The Brief: Esme lives simply on a small farm with loving godparents. When her true identity comes galloping at her in the shape of assassins, everything about her simple life gets trodden under foot.
The Debrief: OhmyswoonyRowan!!! I was absolutely held captive by @emma.ferreira_author to the very last word. So good! Adventure. Betrayal. Allies. Kindness. Inner strength. Good versus evil. All of it incredibly well done. Here’s my brain dump:
⚔️Cinderellish Sleeping Beautish vibes, but also every evil queen you always hated ⚔️swoony and protective heroes ⚔️Frank and Grace are the cutest ⚔️surprises that hit just right ⚔️Rowan. Rowan. Rowan. ⚔️Marie is my kind of bff and has great aim ⚔️slowly melt me chemistry ⚔️found family ties ⚔️girl boss moves hitting hard ⚔️doing the impossible because others believe you can
The Rhyme: Esme gets one hot minute to accept her new royal status and dodge the bad guys. Rowan will do anything to keep her safe and stand for change, but can they make a difference before anyone else dies?
Trust me!! Highly recommend!!! Satisfying conclusion, but there is a huge spoiler of what’s to come and I’m here for it!!!! It’s also available now!!
Where the Cinders Whisper by Emma Kate Ferreira The Woven Fates Series, book one
This story was absolutely captivating in every way. I was transported. There was never a dull moment and the tender goodness inside was unmatched. I adored every minute of this read.
If you want a spin on fairytales that’s all its own, while encompassing compassion, grit, determination, and grace. This story is for you. The butterflies at the budding romance, the terror in situations, the heartache of corruption, and the joy in good conquering evil.
I loved the side characters and all the parts they played in the events that happened. The near death escapes and plans going awry. The continued goodness of Esme when so much happens that could harden a heart. I couldn’t have loved the one horse scene more. Stolen kisses, hands brushing, and hiding behind a curtain a time or two just to talk.
Favorite Quote: “what if I fail?” “Then you fail while trying to bring good into this world.” He said. “But any good you do along the way —whether big or small— will always make a difference.”
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ Where the Cinders Whisper is an enchanting YA read that lingers like a soft echo long after the final page. Blending found family, quiet magic, and heartfelt love, the story gently reminds us that mercy and courage are often stronger than fear and judgment.
Esme’s journey is the beating heart of the novel. Watching her grow into a young woman who wears compassion and wisdom as her armour is deeply satisfying and beautifully written. Her strength isn’t loud or flashy—it’s steady, kind, and earned through difficult choices, which makes her growth feel authentic and inspiring.
The found-family dynamics are warm and grounding, offering moments of tenderness that balance the darker themes. The atmosphere is rich and immersive, with a whisper of wonder woven throughout.
Thoughtful, emotional, and quietly powerful, this book earns its 4.5 stars with grace and heart—a must-read for YA fans who love character-driven stories with soul.
So I LOVE a good book, covering many genres. I initially read this book as a friend wrote it and I wanted to be supportive. I was prepared to simply not write a review if I didn’t enjoy it, but quite simply, I loved it!! (Stayed up till 1am to finish it!) It’s gentle yet has grit when needed, you fall in love with so many of the characters & truly want good for them. It has gentle nods to Cinderella, yet is completely its own new unique story. Now i’ll confess, I do like a book with a little spice, so was a little apprehensive about reading something with none, but honestly, I didn’t miss it. It was wholesome, but still very much conveyed real love. Emma, I simply can’t wait for the next release. If this is you just starting out, I look forwards to all the adventures still in your heart & head to find paper. Well done you xox
This was a great clean romance Cinderella retelling. I liked the twists and turns and the nods to the original Cinderella story. I really like most of the characters and I liked at the end how we got to see how the second book fits with the first. so I'm excited to read the second book. It was nicely wrapped up in a bow but with enough intrigue to keep you reading. I would only take a half star off because of the beginning I was a little bored and didn't love the interactions between Esmeralda and Rowan at the start but all of that changed as the story continued.
Great job Emma on your very first novel and I can't wait to read the second!
I was pleasantly surprised when I read this book! I developed a love for each of the characters and I loved reading about Esme’s growth as a character! The plot and twists really encapsulated me. I literally could not put down this book and I loved the closed-door romance! This really was such a fun read and I highly recommend! 🫶🏼
This book exceeded all of my expectations and more! I was hooked the entire way through. Emma did such a beautiful job at creating characters that I felt attached to, causing me to devour the book in one day. She has such a beautiful way with words, creating intriguing imagery, truly allowing the plot to vibrantly come alive. I can’t wait to read what she produces in the future!
I loved this book! The writing was beautiful! The characters were relatable and lovable. This retelling of Cinderella was fantastic. I really appreciate a good, clean romance where I can really get into the story without being surprised by any explicit passages! A very fun, enjoyable read!
Fairy tales aren’t just for little kids! I know most of us enjoyed them growing up, but I find that they still bring me the same joy as I get older. Retellings are always fun it that they take us back to our childhood favorites while creating new stories all their own.
Cinderella is one of, if not, my favorite of the fairy tales. I especially love the live action movie. I felt that Where the Cinders Whispers embodies that moral of that particular retelling with its emphasis on kindness. This story does have danger and peril to make it extra exciting but the characters (for the most part) stick to their convictions and integrity in times of crisis.
There were many memorable characters to love and lots of nods to Cinderella and hints at other fairy tales. It was fresh and fun, yet familiar and cozy. I’m excited for the next story in the series. I believe this is a story to be enjoyed by all ages.
Thank you to the author for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

The Cinderella elements are definitely all there, like the shoe, the fairy godmother and the ticking clock, but they are incorporated into the story in creative and fresh ways! This imaginative retelling kept me turning pages far past by bedtime!
And Esme and Rowan? I adored every moment between them, from the glances across the room and the barely-there hand touches as well as all of the big, sweeping moments (no spoilers!). Wow! You will never believe this is a debut novel. It is so good! I was hooked from the very beginning and loved how the fantasy played out. Great world building and character development. The way things were described was beautiful. I loved all the nods to Cinderella. Although I wasn't quite sure how Esme was going to rule a kingdom with no experience and not a mean bone in her body. She grew and had a lot of help along the way. The forbidden love was so good and the plot twists kept me on the edge of my seat. Trust me when I say you need this fantasy in your life!
