A New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author, Elle Kennedy grew up in the suburbs of Toronto, Ontario, and holds a B.A. in English from York University. From an early age, she knew she wanted to be a writer, and actively began pursuing that dream when she was a teenager.
Elle currently writes for various publishers. She loves strong heroines and sexy alpha heroes, and just enough heat and danger to keep things interesting!
"I’m frozen for a second. I’ve seen her smile before, but not like this, and I suddenly feel like someone seeing color for the first time. This smile is unguarded. It’s soft and alive and shining brighter than the sun. It traps my breath halfway in my chest."
I fully trust Elle Kennedy when it comes to books, especially her second-gen series or her spin-offs of the same series, because I believe she is one of the few authors who can actually pull it off without them feeling like cash grabs. When she announced Love Song I was obsessed with the idea of it because you're telling me we're getting a book between the daughter of the couple that was my favorite during the off campus era and the son of the couple whose book were my favorite, I was a little intimidated by it as well because I thought she would rely heavily on the old characters and their banter and that way the main characters wouldn't be able to pull off a good connection. Still, oh boy, I was so wrong because she aced this book in every single aspect. It was truly such a fantastic book 😋 it had her same charm that's in all her books, but there was something different about it too, there were new themes discussed, some important topics that were shed some light on, and the romance was complex, which made me so obsessed with this book even more.
"Your smile stops the world."
I binged this book during exam season, and honestly, it was a time where I was barely reading arcs, but the prologue OH MY GODDDDD the prologue was sooo good like I was invested from the start like you guys DONT UNDERSTAND what it did to me, it was so angsty, yearny, and hot that I said fuck you to Isasac set my ship blakewyatt to sail. I knew from that moment onwards that I was in for a massive ride of enjoyment (that sounds so wrong) but honestly though it's among one of my favorite prologues like 😭😭 imagine someone asks me my favorite prologues and I'll be listing high fantasies with love song in the middle 😭 it's also my most highlighted book because I legit giggling and blushing like a crazy amount 😭 I felt so stupid because in the reflection of my ipad I would find myself grinning like an idiot and laugh for a minute at that 🌚this book was like the best parts of off campus merging and coming together yet also opening so many new doors for the future. I think I have a clue whose book might be next, and I'm excited by all the possibilities 🙂↕️
“I want someone to need me. Not just love me. I want to be wanted so badly it hurts. I wanted to be someone’s obsession. Their undoing.”
I also believe that no one writes hockey romances like Elle Kennedy because while I enjoy other hockey romances a lot, they do not come close to her books, they are so engaging and well written that even the third act doesnt bother like the deal had the best third act break up that I have read, this one was so heartbreaking that I didnt even mind it. She knows how to carry a book and engage her readers. It was very engrossing and fast-paced. I sped through my practice questions so that I could sit and binge this. It was written so well. I want all my romance novels to be like this. It's also the fact that this book did not leave my mind for a very long time, as soon as I finished it, the first thing that I wanted to do was open this book and read it again. Even though this wasn't a hockey romance, more of a musical romance, I like how she incorporated hockey elements into it.
My top 10 scenes 1. The prologue 🫦 2. Wyatt skating on the ice rink and Blake describing it 😋 3. The one scene where Wyatt jumps in the lake for Blake with everyone watching 😭 4. The dad chat 🤣 5. Logan and Garrett finding out about that one thing 😭😭 6. The badminton games 🏸 7. Hannah and Wyatt's talk 🫂 8. Every golden boy scene 🙂↕️ (they kept us fed) 9. Blake and Logan's hangout scenes 🤭 10. The spicy scenes 🌶️ (HM: the lighthouse scene)
“I’m going to ruin you,” I say roughly. “Maybe I’ll ruin you too,” she whispers back.
My favorite part- the characters;
Blake Logan, I was so interested in her character because I read the Dixon rule, and I honestly just need more Logan grace scenes when I was first introduced to her, but she fought her way through and became a favorite immediately. She is sweet, caring, but also willing to fight for herself. I felt her trying to figure herself out and trying to deal with her mess of trying to become something was very well written and was sort of relatable as well, it made me distinguish her character as well because she was coming from a family where everyone was massively talented and super successful, and so I felt her frustrations with herself but I loved that the book not all that and we had alot of fun and heartwarming moments. It was set during the summer, and I loved seeing Blake make new friends and hanging around. Her scenes with Wyatt were so damn good. I also loved how she had Wyatt wrapped around her finger. He rrelationship with Beau and Gigi was my favorite part!! It was so well written, and obviously I loved the the og couples and how deeply integrated they were in her life. As an FMC, Blake Logan did not disappoint.
Wyatt Graham, shsjhshd, I loved him so much. He was at times hard to like cuz he is arrogant butttt he is also very cute, swoon-worthy, and uff the moments he shares with Blake are lowkey sooo electric 😭He was misunderstood, and I understand his frustrations with himself, and I also got some of his actions and found him relatable, and I LOVEEEE relatable characters. Trying to prove himself in an industry where there are an insane amount of expectations on him, in an industry where his mother has flourished, made me understand his frustrations to an extent. His writer's block was well written. I love how flawed his relationship with Hannah was, like he loved her so much, but their work put a distance between them, and it was so sad to see. I loved it when the confrontation happened. Also, I don't care if it's cliche or whatever, but a songwriter finding his muse because of the girl they love will always be 🫦 While Wyatt might not be for everyone, considering his nature. I felt satisfied with how his arc was delivered, considering how mysterious he had been in the previous books.
"I discovered the cure for insomnia. It’s called Blake Logan."
Gigi, Beau, AJ, Alex, they really spiced everything up 😭 I loved Gigi's presence in the book, but I wish we got more of Ryder. Alexxxx, I can't wait for her book; she's such an absolute diva. The main drama, AJ and Beau 😭😭 it was sad, but it was also so juicy like insane because I am so conflicted on the whole scenario and I need both of their books to see how all of this will resolve because I can't with the cliffhanger 🙏😔 give it to me nowwww.
The parents, THE BEST PART ABOUT THIS BOOK!! Even though the majority of their scenes were after the 50% mark, they still managed to steal the show. Their dad chat 😭🤣 it had me crying at 3 am because what are these people even doing, I love how they're just one big family who are so petty but caring and thoughtful around each other. Garrett and Logan AHHHH I loved seeing how their relationship will be affected by this relationship, and it was so goddamn funny, especially because you can't expect how they will react like that one big reveal at the end, I did not expect them to act like that. Also, the badminton matches, the entire gridwork, the scheming, and the competitiveness made everything so fun!!!
“The girl whose smile stops the world. Who’s the song about?” Pain clenches around my heart. “Oh, just someone I…” I can’t finish. I don’t know how to. Someone I used to love? Well, no, because I still love her with every fiber of my being."
Romance, HAD ME SCREAMING IN MY PILLOW AT 3 IN THE MORNING. It was the type of romance that'll make you giggle and kick your feet 😭, but it also had heavy moments. I loved them just hanging out around the house and getting to know each other more. If you're looking for banter, read this!! It was top-notch!! The tension was radiating off the book, the chemistry and the sexual tension were perfectttt. The spice in this book was spicing 🥵 I'm not even joking, it was so hot because both of these characters were freaks. I love a reformed fuckboy, and I love a girl who wrapped them around her finger, and this delivered on that. That one scene where Wyatt jumps after her had me on the edge of my seat because 1, second-hand embarrassment. 2, the shock was really because even though I knew this was bound to happen, I didn't think it would be like that. I loved the ending too, and some of the quotes that were used to describe each other were sooo cute, LMAOOO also that one scene where Garrett and Logan take Wyatt on a boat and both are interrogating him and Wyatt thinks they'll drown him (Garrett is literally his dad) had me creasing. The set up to the development and execution, it was all perfect.
"I want... trust. Vulnerability. I want her to look me in the eye, to be right there with me. No walls. I want every thought, every look, every breath focused on me and what I'm making her feel."
Plot, I loved the entirety of the summer setting and it revolving around our two main characters trying to find themselves, but what I loved was how the subplots were amazing as well. The inclusion of the entire family in the summer house just amplified the vibes of the book; it was giving SUMMERRRR. I love how there was this trope added, and I despise that trope, but that trope led to some plot changes and gave us some heartwrenching scenes 😭 Elle Kennedy always does this!! She always pulls something like that out of her pocket, and it's insane. I really liked how everything was handled, I do believe Wyatt's grief in that specific moment was overlooked, however. It was still amazing. I was thoroughly invested, and the balance that these plot points provided made this book not only better but paved pathways for future books.
Some additional quotes (banter/spice/fun cute stuff) . "They’re like brothers, only the way-too-close, always-in-each-other’s-business kind of brothers. They talk daily in their multiple group chats. Vacation together. Share obscure inside jokes and running pranks that none of the kids understand or care to try. It’s… intense." (my favv duo 🤭) . "This isn’t jealousy, I assure myself. It’s responsibility. She’s fresh out of a relationship, and she’s vulnerable. She doesn’t know what she wants right now. But I guarantee it’s not the douchebag with the mullet." (the denial was insane 😭) . "In fact, he went above and beyond to bond with me. The man who doesn’t love reading read all the books for my freshman literature class so he could discuss them with me and help me study." (cute LoganBlake dad/daughter moment) . “Blake.” I stop at the sound of my name, turning toward the glass. “What?” I mutter. Our eyes lock. When he speaks, his voice is low and husky. “It won’t happen again.”(me giggling over this shows the bar is on the floor 🫣) . "But? JOHN But when it comes to the Tahoe Games, my partner is Allie. She and I have a good thing going, and we’re not giving it up." (The concept of Logan and Allie being teammates) . "This time, when she loops her arms around my neck, I don’t resist. I just hold her tighter." (🤭🙂↕️) . "DEAN DI LAURENTIS So which one of the Golden Boys has the honor of telling AJ? BEAU DI LAURENTIS HAS LEFT THE GROUP CHAT MAN CHAT: STEALTH MODE GRAY DAVENPORT HAS LEFT THE GROUP CHAT MAN CHAT: STEALTH MODE DEAN DI LAURENTIS Cowards." (plsss I love how everyone always left and were added again) . "My sister’s warning stays with me, yet it’s not strong enough to stop me from sneaking into Blake’s room every night for the rest of the week. I know it’s risky as hell with every room occupied, and when I sneak back into my own bed at dawn every morning, I try not to question why I’m taking such a huge risk for this girl." (slamming my credit card on the table) . “Would you prefer it was a Di Laurentis?” Garrett counters, at which point my father rises to his feet and stomps out of the room." (honestly grace and Hannah should just let them marry each other 😭😭 cuties)
Oops, this got too long 🫣 anyways, I would recommend. __ The deal was my favourite book, and the mistake had my favorite couple, so a book with characters who have parents from that book is going to be six stars!
Buddy reading with my sister, aka the biggest Garrett Graham fan. __ No one, and I mean NO ONE, needs this book more than I do. I HAVE BEEN SHIPPING THEM SINCE BLAKE CAME ON PAGE!! Despite Blake being implied with Issac, I still secretly shipped them 😭, and I finally have the arc!! I can't wait to read their story 🤭
my fav second gen book ever written 😭❤️ wyatt and blake were everything!!!
my dream of seeing grahams and logans as in-laws is finally coming true 🥹🤭 they are going to be so insufferable lmaoo
GARRETT GRAHAM: Bro, if they actually get married, we’ll finally be related. JOHN LOGAN: Do you think Dean and Tuck are jealous of us? GARRETT GRAHAM: Obviously.
OMG SCREAMING CRYING THROWING UP!!!! I GOT THE ARCC 😭😭🥺
Okay, that’s it. I lasted 43% of this book. And it’s 528 pages long, so that’s a pretty big chunk. Hours of my life I’m not getting back.
And I hated every second.
Wyatt was a loser musician whose life revolved around smoking, drinking before lunch, and fucking everything that moves. Wow, so cool. A true rock star.
Blake was okay, but nothing special. (She even mentioned that a few times, so A for self-reflection, Blake! 🏆)
The story was about Blake lusting after Wyatt for some reason (who wouldn’t want ashtray kisses, I guess?) and Wyatt lusting after Blake and jerking off. They talked sometimes too. Mostly about sex. He was also a dick to her most of the time. To give you an idea, the word “dick” is mentioned 83 times.
There were so many frustrating, cringe-worthy, and annoying moments that I was on the verge of dnfng from the beginning, but it’s an ARC, so I thought I’d soldier on. I even survived the blow job he got from some random chick in a parking lot behind a bar at 39% (even though 🤮).
But the last straw was Wyatt describing his busy mind, basically quoting the ADHD textbook, only to realize that it’s been different since he’s been around Blake.
Yes, because that’s exactly how that works, Elle! Love cures ADHD! Yay!
I’m so done with this book I don’t even feel like writing a review. More of my thoughts are in the updates. Good night.
Thanks to Sourcebooks and Edelweiss for the arc, all opinions are my own.
guess what just hit my kindle a day before the release date
omggg the cover is so pretty 😍🤩🤩 the blurb?? give me the book now Elle 🫴🏻
yeeeeeeesssss !!! it’s Blake and Wyatt booookkk, Logan and Garrett are going to go crazy 🤣 also I can’t wait for the dads chat it will be pure comedy 😭🤣
It’s Blake Logan book!!!!!!! It better be Wyatt or AJ
My most anticipated book of the year and it certainly didn’t disappoint, Elle kennedy you did it again!! The tension, the spice, the longing, once you pick love song up, you don’t want to put it down.
Wyatt Graham my misunderstood tortured musician. what I love so much about him is that he’s not like any of the other men Elle Kennedy has written, sure he has Garretts charm and a hint of Deans absurd comments but he’s so different from all of them. Throughout the book he fights many inner battles that we as the reader get to experience through his eyes. There are talks of pressure to live up to his family name, to create music worthy of other peoples ears, I love the rawness and honesty in his chapters. Wyatts chapters are some of my favourite Elle kennedy has ever written, they play such a huge role in getting to know how his mind works.
I see so much of myself in Blake Logan and I think that’s why I love her so much. Not knowing what to do with your life and feeling so much pressure to have your whole life figured out when you’re young. Her growth throughout the book, watching her learn so much about herself, about what she loves while also dealing with so many inner challenges, it’s amazing to see. Blake is the queen of sarcasm and can be extremely bold when she wants to be, yet she’s also a huge nerd who will spend hours researching things that interests her. I absolutely adore her, a beautiful mix of Grace Ivers and John Logan (maybe even a hint of Allie at times).
This book was so fun yet so extremely heavy at the same time, I wasn’t prepared for how heavy it was. It dealt with some extremely sad topics, I found myself sobbing multiple times throughout the book, so get your tissues at the ready. But don’t threat because John Logan and Garrett Graham will probably get you laughing straight after!
As someone who absolutely loves the off campus series, seeing all of the original characters with their children was such an amazing feeling. Watching characters who were once terrified of having children, be the most amazing parents, getting an insight of their lives now, it’s extremely nostalgic. It was full of inside jokes, cameo after cameo of og characters, the craziness of whatever the hell garrett and logan are and DRAMA. Just when you think it’s all over, you get slapped in the face with even more drama, I found myself laughing out loud multiple times.
OH AND THE DAD CHATS?!!!
If you read one book this year, make it be this one, you won’t regret it!
Thank you netgalley for the arc, all opinions are my own!
EDIT: note at the bottom of my review about the trigger/spoilers people are requesting from me.
potential but vague spoilers in this review?
2.5 stars
I'm as disappointed as you are with the rating, trust me.
I'm an avid Elle Kennedy reader and have been reading her books since 2015, so naturally I will read anything she writes 🩷 especially in the Briar universe!
Having said that, unfortunately this book let me down. As a Garrett Graham fangirl, I was so excited to read about his son, his mini-me, but Wyatt couldn't be anymore different from Garrett if he tried lol
I just didn't like Wyatt that much. It could just be me because I much prefer golden retrievers, but I found him to be quite rude and mad at the world for no reason. The way he spoke to his parents, particularly Wellsy, bothered me so much when he literally has such a good life. What's he got to be upset about?
I'll explain more about why I dislike Wyatt in my detailed review but I just didn't connect with him and his attitude stinks. He did, however, do a complete 180 when the "tragedy" strikes and he was actually being more mature than I expected. That says to me his 'the world hates me' vibe is just some kind of act 😄
Speaking of a 180, Blake does the same! She's fine at the start, but I don't feel like she has as big page presence as the others. She's a little unforgettable to me, but I didn't dislike her. Again, when the tragedy happens, her and Wyatt have a Freaky Friday situation going on and she frustrates me lol but I'll explain in detail in my release day review!
Regarding the tragedy, I won't spoil, however I saw it coming and it didn't really take up much time. Barely anything happens for the first 50% of the book lol well, there's barely any characters! Which is why I got antsy and impatient 😄 especially when 1/2 of the characters annoy you lmao
The trigger warning in the book indicates the tragedy but it's at the back to avoid spoilers. It's up to you if you want to read and spoil!
Regarding the OG gang, we get mostly Logan, Grace, Hannah and Garrett. Dad Chat is in there but don't expect TONS. There's some family chats woven in there too which I found jumbled things a bit.
Also, the OG characters have a very odd reaction to something that happens quite a few times - one scene in particular - so I'm not sure how I feel about it 😄 I didn't like it. Again, I have to be vague! Come back on release day for more information lol
I'll admit, I was in camp Beau/Blake going into this and while some parts made me smile, his character also does a 180 so I don't know what to expect from his book lol but I know it'll be dramatic due to the end of Love Song. AJ, too!
While I didn't get on with a lot of the book, I actually enjoy the last 20%, it felt more like OC 🩷
I'm deflated and disappointed unfortunately, but it could be a 'me' thing lol it cannot be more than a 2.5 star, and I think that's generous!
--
EDIT: I'm no longer going to send/respond to any messages regarding the trigger warning due to some people being a little rude and demanding in their messages to me when I'm only trying to help.
Especially when I'm doing this in good spirits to protect anyone who has any worries regarding the trigger, not to just give you spoilers. Love Song is out in under a month, it's not too long a wait. The trigger will be listed in the book and you'll find out the tragedy when you read it.
And I've had many people asking about AJ and Beau and not liking my response to it. I'm really not sure what everyone expects me to say or what they're asking of me, but I've read the book and I'm only going based on what I've experienced. The book is out next month so you'll see then.
I tried to do a nice thing for fellow fans but it backfired, so please don't keep messaging.
Wyatt Graham, son of the iconic Off-Campus couple Garrett and Hannah, and Blake Logan, daughter of John and Grace—my favorite pair from the series— becoming a couple!!!
Pre-read 7/23/25 AHHH BLAKE AND WYATTS BOOK!!!! I'm so beyond excited, two of my most favorite couples kids?!?AHH I LOVE SECOND GEN BOOKS SO MUCH!!! The dad chat willl go CRAZY, march better come soon🤍🤍
she falls first but he falls harder trope????? you guys already know this’ll be 5 stars. can’t wait for logan to be a graham-in-law the way he should be.
DNF @ 53% and I am so sad about it. I honestly found this couple to be unbearable??? I really liked Blake in the previous books but she was so annoying in this one, and Wyatt was honestly just gross. They were both sexualising each other so much, it was so off putting - I know it’s a college romance but surely we can think about something other than sex??? Once the physical stuff started happening between them it was just all too much for me, the sex scenes were just icking me out.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review.
Thank you so much to the publisher and Edelweiss for the eARC in exchange for a honest review!
To say that I loved this book would actually be an understatement considering I devoured it in less than 24 hours. I couldn't put it down!
I adored Blake and Wyatt (like I knew I would) so much. Their banter, their angst, the tension, and just how slow burn their romance was. The two them pulled at my heartstrings and had me going from crying to laughing. They were downright messy at times but I wouldn't have had it any other way!
I feel like one thing Love Song has in spades that was slightly lacking from Gigi's book is a deeper dive into the family dynamics between not only our favorite OGs from Off-Campus and Briar U and their kids but also the dynamics between the kids themselves. We see so much of those interactions and character cameos. It was one of my favorite parts of this book!
Especially getting to see that Garrett and Logan's bromance is still going strong!
The romance, the chaos, the tears - trust me be prepared because if you're a fan of the OG series like I am then you are going to love this one.
EK does it AGAINNNN!!! I don’t know what she puts in her books but this took me back to my Off Campus days, the vibes were immaculate and I’m so sad I’ve FINISHED THIS like erase my memory so I can read this again for the first time thanks because there is no better feeling than reading an Elle Kennedy book. This book was fun, spicy and overall a great summery read, I had the best time.
I had high expectations for this book and I can say for me they were met, but I can also admit that there were things I did not like (spoiler section). I really loved Blake and Wyatt, the forbidden aspect and summer setting was done well and I liked the whole them ‘trying to find themselves’ as someone who can relate to this. I could feel the chemistry from these two and I thought it was just SO GOOD like it had me giddy and that’s how I know I loved it. The AMOUNT OF CONTENT WE GET FROM ALL THE OC characters made my life, it made this book more enjoyable for me and took it to the next level, I was just so happy reading about all these characters, the banter, the inside jokes, the relationships and friendships. It was nostalgic and it was perfect.
Logan and Garrett DID NOT DISAPPOINT IN THIS BOOK I was genuinely laughing out loud and cracking up so hard multiple times. You are truly not ready. And the Golden Boys… I’m SCREAMING. I can confirm I am down bad for them, and the amount of BEAU??!! content we got im screaming again sorry (and crying iykyk). While this book was one of the funnest I’ve read it also got a bit deep and heavy, have the tissues ready because I was not prepared. I do think the spoiler warning needs to be read for this book as it will have triggering content for some readers.
While I loved this book I have to admit the book felt repetitive at times and I did not love the ending and I was slightly disappointed. The last 20% of the book felt very disconnected from the rest of the book and I wasn’t too sure what was happening. I wasn’t 100% satisfied with the ending and the epilogue which brought my rating down. The confessions felt out of place and random.
SPOILER THOUGHTS BELOW ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Another reason it wasn’t 5 stars is because I was disappointed about the discussion of grief in this book and how it was handled, specially relating to Wyatt. I kept waiting for his loss to be acknowledged by Blake and for them to have discussion I guess or a scene at least acknowledging what they went through, but it was just all about Blake which I understand but I wanted Wyatt to have that closure and support so that saddened me.
*Thank you to the author, publisher and Elle Kennedy Team for the e-ARC in exchange for a review*
First of all, this entire book was absolutely wonderful, tearful, and extremely funny!
If you’re a fan of the Briar universe, I feel like Love Song will become your favorite out of all (at least that’s what happened to me). This story follows Blake Logan and Wyatt Graham, a 20/21 year old woman who is struggling to figure out what to do after graduation, and a man who is having a writers block but also a life block! They both end up at the families vacation house alone making their summer romance both irresistible and complicated. What follows is a slow-burn, tension-filled summer romance packed with chemistry, angst, and emotional growth.
Lingering history, unresolved tension, and just enough stubbornness on both sides to make their connection feel explosive. The forced proximity at the lake house makes their attraction impossible to ignore, and once they give in, the spice definitely turns up.
I have never made this many highlights dude (45 in total!) This story was 10/10 with the main characters, but also everyone involved made the story funny and messy.
Major shoutout to Stella! Girl you were barely in it and now I need more from you.
Gosh I cannot wait to listen to the Audiobook when it gets released. I can’t wait to hear this story again. What a beautiful story and the SONGS?! Ok Connor Crais is going to hopefully sing them? Ahhhhhhh 😍🤩
Wyatt is the best Elle Kennedy man I’m sorry I won’t be convinced otherwise (musician, patient, funny, hot - what more could I want?)
🎶Best Friends Brother 🎸Forbidden(ish) 🎶Forced Proximity 🎸Summer Romance 🎶Personal growth 🎸Musician x his muse 🎶Former f***boy
This was such a beautiful story. The banter between Wyatt and Blake was at a level I’ve been chasing for a LONG time. I had so much fun with these two -watching them grow, learn to open up, and overcome their insecurities together 🫶
The dad chats were 10/10 and it was great to see more of the core 4 that got us to this legacy series. Graham and John had me laughing at the strangest of times.
Please do check the triggers for this one as some very sensitive topics are covered, I was not expecting them at all. I could have done without some of the drama in the third-act breakup and it took me out of the story and couple slightly but overall I really enjoyed it and flew through this in two days!
Elle Kennedy has done it again! I swear, everything that she writes turns to gold. I absolutely LOVED this second gen book, and thought she did these characters and their story justice. This was also the first physical book I’ve read in a looooooooong time - and I loved it!
Wyatt & Blake are actual goals. They were so much fun, had the best banter, and their spice was spicin’. There were so many incredible moments throughout this book and all these little side stories that I thought worked so well, and really brought the story to life.
The best part? Seeing all of our favorite Off Campus / Briar U / Campus Diaries characters! These parts had me hysterical with laughter. If you loved Garrett & Logan in their books - just wait until this one. They are absolutely ridiculous in the BEST way.
I cannot wait for everyone to read this book when it comes out in May! Thank you to Sourcebooks & Bloom Books for the ARC!
Holy fucking shit. Let me get my thoughts together before I write this review. (3/10/25) ------- OK. Now that its been a full day, I can write. (3/11/25)
"I'm going to ruin you," I say roughly. "Maybe I'll ruin you too," she whispers back.
NO, ACTUALLY IT'S ME WHO IS RUINED!!!
I'm legitimately going to be thinking about this book for the rest of my life. It was sexy, romantic, intense, funny, and emotional. It felt like I was watching a movie projected on a screen in my head with each word. I didn't want it to end and 500+ pages has never flown by so quickly.
Summer romances are so elite and this is one of the best the genre has to offer. Blake and Wyatt are perfectly imperfect. Their chemistry literally LEAPT off the page. I felt like I was intruding at times because wtf... they were SO into each other.
Blake is living in the shadow of all of her extraordinarily talented and famous family and extended family members in the Briar Universe. She's not a supermodel or a star athlete. She's kind of a dork who likes to learn and enjoys diving deep into rabbit holes (which I can get behind). She masks her insecurities with a sarcastic sense of humor... but really its because she feels like no one has ever truly seen her. That's only exacerbated by her fuck ass ex-boyfriend (who I had been rooting for in the Charlie Method!!!!).
Wyatt also feels like he's living in the shadow of his famous parents, but really he just can't get out of his own damn way. He's afraid to ask for help and he's committed to isolating himself and never really opening up besides to a select few. He means well, but he hurts those he loves in the process like his mom and Blake... who has loved him for years, but he chooses to blow her off because of all the reasons he shouldn't want her. But he also suffers from internal battles that so many of us can relate to: the chaos in his brain, insomnia, and the vices he uses to combat them.
We all need a summer in Tahoe because their summer was pure magic. The slow burn and yearning was delicious. The way these two childhood family friends really actually got to get to know one another during this extended one-on-one time and peel back each other's layers made it impossible *not* to invest in their relationship. And when they finally gave in, it was everything. I know some may think it was TOO much physically, but the constant attraction and action was accurate to how these two had been pining over each other for years. The sexual tension was tensioning!
And then the big tragedy/twist (which I won't spoil). I am not in any way a fan of this type of twist (not a trigger, just not a fan) but it GUTTED ME, and I found it to be extremely effective in fortifying their relationship, feelings, and what really mattered. The only thing I slightly didn't understand was how Blake reacted towards Wyatt afterwards at first, but I didn't hate her for it. And I LOVED the callback to the Mistake. It could have been cheesy, but it was honestly so perfect for this couple.
Now, to the fun stuff -- I need the Briar Universe to continue forever because the cameos and the Dad Chats, and the second gen kids, and all of it is just so fun. I was grinning reading the entire family summer component of the book. It felt like coming home. This is my family!!!!!! And the way this book set up what I think will be the next installment of the Briar Universe... perfection. Elle, you can do no wrong in my eyes.
I was kicking my feet and giggling and clenching my jaw and all the other things while reading this. My most anticipated read of the year and it didn't disappoint. Blake and Wyatt and Briar U are in my heart 4EVER <33333333333333 Five ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ stars because... duh!
Thank you to Elle Kennedy and Team EK for sending me an e-arc -- I'm eternally grateful!!!
I was SO excited for this book and although I did love it, it didn't quite live up to my (albeit very high) expectations. I am a HUGE Elle Kennedy fan and the Off Campus and Briar U (+) series are some of my favourite romances. So of course I was super excited!
This is a second generation romance and focuses on the Blake (John Logan's daughter) and Wyatt (Garrett Graham's son). Wyatt and Blake are both a little lost and find themselves both unexpectedly at their joint families holiday home on Lake Tahoe for the summer. They have some history where Blake had a crush on Wyatt in the past. The story involves them slowly growing together by pushing each others buttons and making each other open up. It is a summer romance...or is it?!
The story was really well done, although for me roughly at 25% to 60% marks was a bit repetitive and slow. This is a chunky romance at 600 pages (in the ARC I read) and I definitely think it needed editing a little further in parts to make the story less slow. I wish the ARC the trigger warning would have been at the beginning so I could have been prepared...it being at the END did not help! Trust it to be the one thing I do find triggering too! I also wish the book had family trees for ALL the characters involved, as even though I adore these series, even I got lost at times by who is connected to who! However, I loved the story and the families coming together for the summer, plus the addition of Dad chat groups were an absolute joy and had me chuckling to myself. This book was filled with emotional characters, scenes and relationships which I loved. Elle Kennedy knows how to pull on my heartstrings!
The lead characters were good but not my all time favourites. Blake is unsure on what she wants to do with life and is struggling with the fact that everyone around her seems to be super talented and successful. I liked that she didn't have everything sorted out, I just wish the conclusion had been better for her. I did like her, she's smart, funny and stands up for herself. But I also did want to shake her (and Wyatt) so many times. Wyatt is a musician, struggling with following in his Mum's very successful shadow, suffers from insomnia and is struggling to write music. He was an interesting one and I loved how he stepped up during the twist in the book (no spoilers). I thought his mental and emotional growth was really great.
Overall, I really enjoyed this addition to this world and cannot wait for more to come. Excited to see who will be next on the roster! In the meantime, I'm going to reread all the series again!
Please note that I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Love Song is my new favorite Elle Kennedy book! That's really saying something because I adored Gigi's book, but I was blown away by Blake and Wyatt's story! Blake is taking the summer in Tahoe to re-group after ending it with her cheating ex. Wyatt is also taking the summer in Tahoe to re-group and hopefully end his writer's block. Too bad neither of them knew the other was going to be there too.
Blake and Wyatt are actually goals and are so cute together Their banter and whit was top tier and their spice was spicing. Between all the fun and spice there were also some seriously deep moments that I wasn't necessarily expecting, but it added some serious depth to their story and really elevated the book. I loved how their relationship evolved over the summer and watching them find their way back to themselves while also finding their way to each other.
Elle seriously blessed up with so many fun moments with the OG Off Campus and Briar U characters. I ate this book up and loved every minute of it. This is the perfect summer romance book and I can't recommend it enough!
